Potencial de cruzamentos de soja para resistência ao mofo branco, tolerância à ferrugem e produtividade de grãos / Potential of soybean crosses for resistance to white mold, tolerance to rust, and seed yieldFernanda Aparecida Castro Pereira 03 October 2016 (has links)
In soybean, the occurrence of fungal diseases such as white mold and Asian rust has reduced seed yield significantly over the past years. This work aimed to: a) assess the potential of soybean crosses to obtain progenies with good agronomic traits, with emphasis on seed yield, white mold resistance and tolerance to rust; b) assess the reaction of genotypes to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, fungus that cause white mold; c) assess tolerance to rust in early generations through methods of estimation of the rust effect. The genetic material was derived from a partial diallel with 50 crosses between the group I (ten parents - experimental lines, USP, with high seed yield), and group II (five parents - with evidences from the literature of certain resistance to white mold). In 2012/13, two experiments were conducted, the first with 50 crosses (F2) and three common checks; and, the second one involving the 15 parents and the same three checks. In the 2013/14 and 2014/15, in order to estimate the rust effect (tolerance level) by the difference (loss) between the seed yield (PG) and one hundred-seed weight (PCS), experiments with crosses (F3 and F4 generations) and parents were designed in four experiments (two disease managements to crosses and two disease managements to parents); management O&P, with applications of fungicides to control rust and other fungal diseases; management D, with applications of one fungicide for controlling the late season leaf diseases, except rust. Separately, ten F4 plants of each cross and the parents were evaluated for resistance to white mold using the method of inoculation in detached leaves in order to estimate the area under the disease progress curve. In general, for all evaluated generations it was observed superiority of 2,2% in the PG of the crosses, related to the parents. The average loss of PG was 2,1% on the genotypes under study in the presence of rust and the average loss in seed size was 5,5%. Considering the resistance to white mold, tolerance rust and high means of PG, the five best crosses were: 111 (USP 70.006 x MSOY6101), 131 (USP 70.080 x MSOY6101), 133 (USP 70 .080 x A4725RG), 113 (USP 70.006 x A4725RG) and 126 (USP 70.057 x MSOY 6101). The best parents were A4725RG and USP 70.080. As resistance standards to white mold were identified the crosses 142 (USP 70.109 x PI 153282) and 111 (USP 70.006 x MSOY6101) and the parents MSOY6101 and Caiapônia; Susceptibility standards were the crosses 114 (USP 70.006 x EMGOPA 313) and 135 (USP 70.080 x Caiapônia) and the parents USP14-01-20 and USP 70.004. In addition, the following conclusions were obtained a) the diallel analyzes were effective in identifying F2 populations with higher potential for selection gain; b) the strategy of using different managements of fungicides was efficient to estimate the response of plants to rust in terms of PG and PCS; c) the methodology of detached leaf was useful in differentiating the genotypes for resistance to white mold.

Avaliação de linhagens de arroz (Oryza sativaL.) suscetíveis e tolerantes a baixas temperaturas em cruzamentos dialélicos parciais / Evaluation of cold tolerant and cold susceptible rice inbred lines (Oryza sativa L.) in partial diallel crossesEdgar Alonso Torres Toro 29 September 2006 (has links)
The development of high yielding and cold tolerant rice cultivars for the temperate region of Latin America is one of the most important challenges for the local agriculture. The objective of the present work was to estimate the genetic and phenotypic parameters related to the control of cold tolerance and agronomic traits, in order to obtain a better understanding of the genetic control of these traits for breeding purposes. The genetic material comprised two sets of rice lines: Group 1 composed by six cold susceptible lines and Group 2 composed by seven cold tolerant lines. The two groups were crossed according a partial diallel design (MIRANDA FILHO; GERALDI, 1984) giving rise to 42 hybrid combinations. The 55 entries (42 crosses plus 13 parents) were evaluated in 2005 under field conditions, at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture - CIAT, in a randomized complete block design with four replicates, in two planting dates; plots were single-rows with 17 plants. The same entries were evaluated for cold tolerance in growth chambers, in three experiments, using soil as substrate, temperature of 16 °C and 12 °C during the day and night, respectively, and photoperiod of 12 hours using artificial lights. The experimental design was the same with three replications per experiment; and plots were single-rows with 20 seeds. General results revealed the presence of heterosis for the agronomic traits (plant height, tiller number, days to flowering, panicle length, grains by panicle, sterility and one-thousand grain weight) as well as for cold tolerance traits (emergence index and dry matter production), with different contributions of the parents to the mean heterosis effect. The direction of the dominance was negative for days to flowering and positive for all others traits. General combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were important for all traits; however, the GCA was more important than SCA. Both groups showed the presence of favorable alleles for agronomic and cold tolerance traits. Several lines such as Irga 417 and FL03188 from the Group 1, FL04423, FL04402, and FL04452 from the Group 2, presented lower sterility in the inter-group crosses. The tolerant lines, CT6748, Quilla 173201 and Quilla 145601 were considered the best parents to be used as cold tolerant donors in rice breeding programs.

In potato breeding programs, the choice of parents and selection of strategies
must be carefully defined, and incorporated as a practice in programs trying to increase
the efficiency and efficacy. The research consisted of five studies. The first study aimed
to verify the combining ability of potato parents in early generations of selection. Twelve
segregating potato families derived from crosses between two groups of parents in a
partial diallel (3x4) were evaluated. The families were evaluated to tuber appearance
and yield traits. Data were analyzed for variance and partial diallel analysis. It was found
that there is predominance of additive effects of genes for skin color, tuber shape
uniformity, tuber pointing, tuber curvature, general tuber appearance, tuber size
uniformity, tuber number, tuber yield, and average tuber weight. The second study
aimed to estimate the expected response to selection for yield, appearance and fry
quality traits. Three hybrid potato populations were studied and evaluated to yield,
appearance and fry quality. Data were statistically analyzed according to the
REML/BLUP model. The expected response to selection for frying quality suggests that
to obtain superior populations, at least one parent of good fry quality should be used.
The third study aimed to estimate genetic parameters for yield and tuber appearance
traits in early generations of selection. Twelve segregating potato families were
evaluated to yield and appearance traits. The experimental design was randomized
blocks. It was concluded that selection can be applied with mild to moderate intensity in
seedling generating for skin texture, general tuber appearance, tuber number, tuber
yield, and average tuber yield. The fourth study aimed to examine correlations between
and within generations for tuber appearance and tuber yield in early generations of
selection and their implications in the selection. Twelve segregating potato families were
evaluated in seedling and first field generation to appearance and yield traits.
Correlation analysis between and within generations were performed. The results
showed that negative selection can be applied in the seedling generation for tuber
IX
pointing, tuber number, and average tuber weight. The results also suggest that
selection for tuber yield can be applied at mild intensity for average tuber weight and
tuber size. The fifth study aimed to compare the efficiency of different index selection
methods for selection of superior potato clones. Three hybrid potato populations were
studied. Six selection index were compared. The families were evaluated to yield and
appearance traits. It was concluded that the multiplicative index and the index based on
the sum of ranks are more efficient.

Previous issue date: 2006-06-19 / The choice of parents and selection strategies when carefully defined and
incorporated as usual practice in potato breeding programs, increase their efficiency
and versatility. This research was composed of four studies. The work had as the
main objective to analyze the use of distance measurements among potato
genotypes through genealogy, morphologic and molecular markers, and jointed
morphologic plus molecular markers. Thirteen cultivars and elite clones were grown
in springs of 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, in the field. Can concluded that all
estimates of genetic distances owe be considered jointly to obtain contrasting
crossings. The second study aimed to estimate the combining ability of potato
parents in early generations of selection. A hybrid population composed by 20
progenies in a partial diallel (4x5) arranged in a factorial design was evaluated. The
results allowed infer that, number and average tuber weight are characters with CGC
and CEC effects important, whereas tuber yield was a character governed by
predominant additive genetic effects. In seedlings generation, the estimates of
combinations capacities can is predicted. The third study was aimed to estimate
genetic parameters of component traits of tuber appearance, evaluated in the two
first generations of potato, aiming to estimate selection gains. The experiment was
conducted in two generations, seedlings generation, in plastic house, and first clonal
generation, in the field, during autumn of 2004 and 2005, respectively. A population
of 15 potato families with 20 plants (genotypes) for each family was used. Can
conclude that the seedling generation provide better expression of tuber appearance
traits, than in the first clonal generation. High pressure of selection can be applied in
early generations to shape, pointing and curving of tubers. The fourth study aimed to
estimate genetic parameters of component traits of tuber appearance, evaluated in
the two first generations of potato, aiming to estimate selection gains in the seedling
generation. Two populations (1 and 2) were evaluated in plastic house, during
autumn and spring seasons of 2004. Expected correlated and direct gains were
estimated for tuber appearance and yield. In seedling generation, the expected
correlated gains are bigger in tuber appearance by selecting for tuber curving,
pointing and tuber shape, however lower to direct selection. The selection for tuber
appearance based on its individual components does not offer possibility of higher
gains that the direct selection, whereas the selection for tuber yield through its
components (number and tuber medium weight) results in higher gains than direct
selection.

Geometric reasoning planning in the context of Human-Robot Interaction / Raisonnement et planification géométrique dans le contexte de l'intéraction Homme-RobotGharbi, Mamoun 16 September 2015 (has links)
In the last few years, the Human robot interaction (HRI) field has been in the spotlight of the robotics community. One aspect of this field is making robots act in the presence of humans, while keeping them safe and comfortable. In order to achieve this, a robot needs to plan its actions while explicitly taking into account the humans and adapt its plans to their whereabouts, capacities and preferences. The first part of this thesis is about human-robot handover: where, when and how to perform them? Depending on the human preferences, it may be better, or not, to share the handover effort between him and the robot, while in other cases, a unique handover might not be enough to achieve the goal (bringing the object to a target agent) and a sequence of handovers might be needed. In any case, during the handover, a number of cues should be used by both protagonists involved in one handover. One of the most used cue is the gaze. When the giver reaches out with his arm, he should look at the object, and when the motion is finished, he should look at the receiver's face to facilitate the transfer. The handover can be considered as a basic action in a bigger plan. The second part of this thesis reports about a formalization of these kind of basic actions" and more complex ones by the use of conditions, search spaces and restraints. It also reports about a framework and different algorithms used to solve and compute these actions based on their description. The last part of the thesis shows how the previously cited framework can fit in with a higher level planner (such as a task planner) and a method to combine a symbolic and geometric planner. The task planner uses external calls to the geometric planner to assess the feasibility of the current task, and in case of success, retrieve the state of the world provided by the geometric reasoner and use it to continue the planning. This part also shows different extensions enabling a faster search. Some of these extensions are \Geometric checks" where we test the infeasibility of multiple actions at once, \constraints" where adding constraints at the symbolic level can drive the geometric search, and \cost driven search" where the symbolic planner uses information form the geometric one to prune out over costly plans.

Correlation attacks on stream ciphers using convolutional codesBruwer, Christian S 24 January 2006 (has links)
This dissertation investigates four methods for attacking stream ciphers that are based on nonlinear combining generators: -- Two exhaustive-search correlation attacks, based on the binary derivative and the Lempel-Ziv complexity measure. -- A fast-correlation attack utilizing the Viterbi algorithm -- A decimation attack, that can be combined with any of the above three attacks. These are ciphertext-only attacks that exploit the correlation that occurs between the ciphertext and an internal linear feedback shift-register (LFSR) of a stream cipher. This leads to a so-called divide and conquer attack that is able to reconstruct the secret initial states of all the internal LFSRs within the stream cipher. The binary derivative attack and the Lempel-Ziv attack apply an exhaustive search to find the secret key that is used to initialize the LFSRs. The binary derivative and the Lempel-Ziv complexity measures are used to discriminate between correct and incorrect solutions, in order to identify the secret key. Both attacks are ideal for implementation on parallel processors. Experimental results show that the Lempel-Ziv correlation attack gives successful results for correlation levels of p = 0.482, requiring approximately 62000 ciphertext bits. And the binary derivative attack is successful for correlation levels of p = 0.47, using approximately 24500 ciphertext bits. The fast-correlation attack, utilizing the Viterbi algorithm, applies principles from convolutional coding theory, to identify an embedded low-rate convolutional code in the pn-sequence that is generated by an internal LFSR. The embedded convolutional code can then be decoded with a low complexity Viterbi algorithm. The algorithm operates in two phases: In the first phase a set of suitable parity check equations is found, based on the feedback taps of the LFSR, which has to be done once only once for a targeted system. In the second phase these parity check equations are utilized in a Viterbi decoding algorithm to recover the transmitted pn-sequence, thereby obtaining the secret initial state of the LFSR. Simulation results for a 19-bit LFSR show that this attack can recover the secret key for correlation levels of p = 0.485, requiring an average of only 153,448 ciphertext bits. All three attacks investigated in this dissertation are capable of attacking LFSRs with a length of approximately 40 bits. However, these attacks can be extended to attack much longer LFSRs by making use of a decimation attack. The decimation attack is able to reduce (decimate) the size of a targeted LFSR, and can be combined with any of the three above correlation attacks, to attack LFSRs with a length much longer than 40 bits. / Dissertation (MEng (Electronic Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering / unrestricted

Multimodalita ve strojovém překladu / Multimodality in Machine TranslationLibovický, Jindřich January 2019 (has links)
Multimodality in Machine Translation Jindřich Libovický Traditionally, most natural language processing tasks are solved within the lan- guage, relying on distributional properties of words. Representation learning abilities of deep learning recently allowed using additional information source by grounding the representations in the visual modality. One of the tasks that attempt to exploit the visual information is multimodal machine translation: translation of image captions when having access to the original image. The thesis summarizes joint processing of language and real-world images using deep learning. It gives an overview of the state of the art in multimodal machine translation and describes our original contribution to solving this task. We introduce methods of combining multiple inputs of possibly different modalities in recurrent and self-attentive sequence-to-sequence models and show results on multimodal machine translation and other tasks related to machine translation. Finally, we analyze how the multimodality influences the semantic properties of the sentence representation learned by the networks and how that relates to translation quality.

Multipath Mitigation in Frequency Selective Channels with an Emphasis on 5G Cellular Mobile Networks and Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry ApplicationsArabian, Farah 16 March 2022 (has links)
This dissertation explores the role of polarization, combining, and equalization operating over frequency-selective channels to improve the reliability of wireless communications systems in terms of BER for two applications: 5G mobile networks (operating in the mmWave band and NR FR1), and aeronautical mobile telemetry systems (operating in L band). The equivalent discrete-time models for a variety of spatial combining techniques at 5G mmWave bands were derived to investigate the performance of co-located cross-polarized antenna elements when polarization diversity is used and also when a combination of spatial and cross-polarized antennas is exploited. In both cases, ML combining has the lowest BER and EPC produced the worst results. The use of co-located cross-polarized antenna elements also is examined in 5G FR1 assuming post-FFT processing of the two antenna element outputs in a mobile-to-mobile setting. The optimum strategy, in the ML sense, for incorporating the two antenna outputs is developed. The optimum combining strategy together with a FDE is compared to the traditional combining techniques: MRC, EGC, and SC, where the last two also require a FDE. Computer simulations performed over a stochastic channel model with polarization state information show that the difference between ML detection and MRC (the best performing methods) and SC with FDE (the worst performing method) is 2 dB. The similar results were observed with pilot based channel estimators, however the difference in this case was the presence of a BER floor at low values of $N_0$ and caused by channel estimation errors. In aeronautical mobile telemetry applications, the ML combiner is derived and shown to be equivalent to the summing the outputs of two filters matched to the channels in the horizontal and vertical polarization states. For historical reasons, current systems combine right-hand and left-hand circularly polarized antenna feed outputs using a MRC. To compare the two combining approaches, the aeronautical telemetry multipath channel was extended to include polarization state information. The simulation results for SOQPSK-TG with a CMA equalizer show that the post-equalizer BER for the two approaches is the same.
