Uyghur Ethnic Group and Somali Bantu : A Comparative StudySaid, Hamdi January 2023 (has links)
This thesis aims to understand the experiences of the Somali Bantu and the Uyghur ethnic group. This study compares the differences and similarities in these groups' political representation and human rights access. Moreover, the method used to conduct this research is the Comparative Analysis Method. The Somali Bantu struggle with social and political marginalisation by Somalia's 4.5 formula and unfair representation due to the clan-based system. Meanwhile, the Uyghurs experience symbolic representation within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Furthermore, both minority groups are marginalised and discriminated against due to cultural, religious and social differences from the majority group; the Social Dominance Theory (SDT) is applied to understand these dynamics. Finally, the study examines alleged human rights violations by applying several international human rights documents, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

La pêche en Aquitaine à l'époque romaine : apport de l'étude archéologique et archéo-ichtyologique de quatre sites : Barzan (Charente-Maritime), Bordeaux et Biganos (Gironde), Guéthary (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) / The fishing in Aquitaine in the Roman period : contribution of the archaeological and archaeo-ichthyological study of four sites : Barzan (Charente-Maritime), Bordeaux and Biganos (Gironde), Guéthary (Pyrénées-Atlantiques)Ephrem, Brice 15 December 2012 (has links)
The goal of this archaeological and archaeo-ichthyological study is to address an activity rarely described by historians: the fishing on the coast of Aquitaine during the Roman period (1st – 3rd century AD). The renewal of the information, few concerning this subject, required an archaeo-ichthyological study conducted on four archaeological sites: Barzan (Charente-Maritime), Bordeaux and Biganos (Gironde), and the salting installation of Guéthary (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). For the first time in this region, the fish bones remains were collected according to sampling strategies adapted to the characteristics of each archaeological site, in order to obtain representative data of the consumed fish species. These data were compared with ancient written and iconographic sources and with modern and contemporary works concerning the fishing and the ecology of the studied ecosystems. This comparative method allowed to clarify ancient texts, and to suggest hypothesis about the fishing techniques used thanks to the fish species discovered on the sites, their size and their season of capture. According to the economic purpose (fresh fish consumption or fish processing), the fishing specificities but also the connections between the exploited environments and the used techniques were studied. The fishing activity involved an adaptation to ecosystems targeted but also to economic and cultural criteria, specific to the Roman period. The exchanges between the studied sites were discussed in order to think about the supply of marine fishes to Bordeaux. In this context, the economic significance of the unique salting installation of Roman Aquitaine, situated in Guéthary, was discussed. The part of the Roman influence in the development of this production was demonstrated by the convergence of several archaeological and historical data.

Metodologické problémy srovnávací právní vědy / Methodological Problems of Comparative LawEjubovič, Denis January 2018 (has links)
Methodological Problems of Comparative Law Summary From the end of the Second World War the comparative law is constantly growing. Growth of the comparative law was enabled, but also forced, by escalating globalization. Development of an information and communications technology in the past decades growth of the comparative law only accelerate. On this aggressive growth the comparative law wasn't prepared, which led to perversion of its content, subversion of its method and establishment of Feyerabend's methodological anarchism, which to this day under the slogan "anything goes" reigns over the comparative law. This thesis is an attempt to create order in the comparative law. We don't do that for the comparative law, or because of the current state of the discipline, but because of our own interest in application of the comparative method in the legal science. In the first section of this thesis we propose a working definition of comparative law. In the second section of this thesis we focus on the structure of comparative method: on the structural elements which compose the comparative method. In the third section of this thesis we focus on the composition of comparative method: on the compositional elements by which are the structural elements of the comparative method integrated into the complete whole....

Anurans emit advertisement calls with the purpose of attracting mates and repelling conspecific competitors. I investigated the association between body size, calling site and parental care with call variables (call duration, number of notes, peak frequency, frequency bandwidth and call structure) in glassfrogs?a family of leaf-dwelling frogs which inhabit Neotropical forests?while controlling for effects of shared ancestry. I also explored the tempo and mode of evolution of these traits and compared them with those of three morphological traits (snout-vent length, and relative head width and tibia length). I generated and compiled acoustic data for 72 glassfrog species (46 % of described diversity), including representatives of all genera (n = 12), and analyzed
the data using phylogenetic comparative methods. I found that almost all acoustic traits evaluated had significant, but generally modest phylogenetic signal. Peak frequency of calls is significantly associated with body-size, while call structure is significantly associated with calling site and with the sex of the caring parent. My results support that, besides phylogenetic constraints, body size is associated with the evolution of advertisement calls in glassfrogs. Diversification of acoustic traits along the phylogeny of glassfrogs is coincident with the radiation of extant taxa at the Miocene-Pliocene boundary. The estimated disparity of acoustic traits was larger than that of morphological traits and the peak in disparity of acoustic traits generally
occurred later in the evolution of glassfrogs, suggesting a historically recent outset of the pronounced acoustic divergence in this clade.

The workings of co-operation : A comparative study of consumer co-operative organisation in Britain and Sweden, 1860-1970Friberg, Katarina January 2005 (has links)
This thesis explores the workings of co-operation. It proceeds by way of a two-case comparative study, where the units of comparison are local consumer co-operatives: the Newcastle upon Tyne Co-operative Society Ltd., situated in the north-east of England, and Konsumentföreningen Solidar in Malmö, in the south-west of Sweden. We get to follow the two societies through minutes from member meetings, and from several other data sources, from their dates of birth to 1970. This material is utilised for cross-case and within-case comparisons as we follow the interaction between the societies and their environments, between organisational structure and decision-making, and between different factions within the societies. The primary purpose is to charter, understand, and explain the complexities brought out by the empirical inquiry. But in doing so, we also discern more general underlying principles for variations in the workings of co-operation. While this makes the thesis into an exploratory endeavour, it also contains an attempt to map the historiography of co-operation in Britain and Sweden: themes and research questions are construed so as to make a contribution to both literatures. One such contribution is the description and analysis of two separate organisational logics, of their dynamics, conditions, effects, and development over time.

In February 2005, a collection predominantly containing medieval ballads was found in the library of Växjö. The collectors were mainly George Stephens, originally from Scotland, and Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius, both active in Småland in the nineteenth century. In connection with an intital inventory of the material, Magnus Gustafsson, ethnomusicologist at Smålands Musikarkiv, marked ballads of uncertain origin with a question mark. The purpose of this essay is to investigate 22 of these marked ballads. To be able to compare them with other material we have developed a method to identify differences. By means of the method both the text and the melody are compared and in addition the differences in terms of quality and quantity are assessed. We have compared the collection, named Växjö Stadsbiblioteks Stephenssamling (VSS), with the Swedish edition of medieval ballads, Sveriges Medeltida Ballader (SMB). In the comparison, a ballad forgotten since the mid nineteenth century was retrieved .
