The architectural competitions are an instrument looking for innovation and solving complex problems of the metropolis. The competitions are a legal system with the objective of hiring public works, as in the case of social housing. It is recommended by the Law 8666, the "open" competition, characterized by its anonymity and equality, as "preferably" applied, giving place to the hiring justified by "public knowledge", named as "invited" competitions. The Brazilian housing deficit is approximately 6 million homes. Aiming to reverse those numbers, the Brazilian Federal Government launched since 2007, a Program named "Minha Casa Minha Vida", which until now held about 1 million homes. Moreover, Spain has built more than 5 million dwellings between 2000 and 2005, yielding known "housing bubble" that contributed to the current financial and economic crisis in the country. For good and ill, the Spanish experience is an important example, aiming the realization of social housing by the architectural competitions. That way, a case study was chosen as methodology by evaluating two architectural competitions for social housing, which are: Renova SP Competition, organized by the Department of Housing of the State of São Paulo, in 2011 and Vallecas 49, sponsored by Madrid¿s Municipal Agency, in 2006. Given this scenario, this research aims to identify the parameters utilized in the organization of both competitions by the parallel between each public notice, and the comparison of them with the judgment protocol, further on the interviews with the participants, promoters and juries. From this method, it was possible to identify the similarities and the contrasts that prejudiced or qualified the process in both cases, so that it is proposed a kind of guideline, which aims to facilitate and improve the formulation of futures architectural competitions / Mestrado / Arquitetura, Tecnologia e Cidade / Mestre em Arquitetura, Tecnologia e Cidade

Ovlivňování průběhu nebo výsledku sportovních událostí a jeho trestněprávní posouzení / Manipulation with the course or with the result of sports competitions and its criminal law assessmentWoska, Jan January 2016 (has links)
Manipulation with the course or with the result of sports competitions and its criminal law assessment Presented thesis is concerned with the issue of manipulation of sports competitions. It's pivotal task is to evaluate whether current criminal law legislation provides effective provisions for the prosecution of those who manipulate with the course or with the final outcome of sports events. Although this negative phenomenon is not utterly new, in fact some of its forms are almost as old as the sport itself, in recent years the severity of this threat has grown rapidly. Modern era has opened up a wide range of brand new possibilities for fixers while sports associations and states were simply unprepared for such peril. Especially betting-motivated manipulation of sports competitions, thanks to its global nature and involvement of betting criminal organizations poses a serious challenge for law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, throughout the thesis the author puts forward an examples demonstrating the permanent presence of another elemental form of manipulation in sports environment - the one which is motivated by achieving of sports results. Although forms of manipulation in sport may differ, what they have in common is that usually all of them represents the threat not only to the integrity of...

Interactions microbiennes et adaptations en milieu extrême : peptides antimicrobiens d’archées halophiles / Microbial interplays and adaptations in extreme environment : antimicrobial peptides produced by halophilic archaeaBesse, Alison 23 September 2016 (has links)
Halophilic archaea are prokaryotes living in extremely high salinity conditions. Those microorganisms thrive in hypersaline environments and produce antimicrobial peptides named halocins, which may confer them a selective advantage over competitors. Among the known antimicrobial peptides produced by halophilic archaea, halocin C8 had been initially purified from the halophilic strain Natrinema sp. AS7092. This work demonstrates that halocin C8 production is conserved among several halophilic archaea belonging to genera Natrinema, Haloterrigena, Haloferax and Halobacterium. An antimicrobial activity has been associated with non-infectious particles larger than 100 kDa, suggesting that halocin C8 could be localized in membrane vesicles. Results obtained from this work will lead to a better understanding of microbial competitions arising in hypersaline environments and the ecological role of halocins

Theatre teachers' attitudes toward the University Interscholastic League One-Act Play contest.Gotuaco, Jennifer E. 12 1900 (has links)
The focus of aesthetic education is reflected in an arts curriculum designed for students to learn skills that make it possible for them to experience the world in a satisfying and meaningful manner. Incorporating aesthetics into school curriculum can be approached through the use of coordinated programs. In the state of Texas, over 1100 schools participate annually in the One-Act Play contest (OAP). The contest is governed by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), which has designed and recommended a structure in which students actively participate in the fine art of theatre. This curriculum is the roadmap for instruction that leads students to learn the value of the aesthetic. This study examines teacher and student perception in the Texas One-Act Play contest and its implications for teaching and learning the aesthetic. The qualitative data were collected through a series of interviews and observations during the spring 2006 with five schools in the north Texas area. Students and teachers at each school were interviewed. Data revealed how the goals of the UIL OAP system are being met based on teachers' practices, perceptions, and experience. Implications of the study are seen through the teachers' attitude toward winning as well as how the elements of teaching, rehearsal technique, and external support systems affect the teachers' contest preparation.

An Historical Analysis of Rule and Policy Changes in the Texas University Interscholastic League One-Act Play Contest, 1986-2006, and the Results of Those Changes: Administrator and Teacher PerceptionsStevens, David Todd 05 1900 (has links)
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) One-Act Play Contest is a competition where similarly sized Texas schools present an 18-40 minute play usually adjudicated by a single judge. At each level of competition the judge awards individual acting awards as well as selecting two productions to advance to the next level of competition. After the awards are announced the judge gives an oral critique to each of the schools. Because of the wide participation and diversity of plays produced, certain rules and guidelines have been adopted to ensure safety, allow for equity, satisfy legal standards, and make the running of the contest practical. These rules can be modified to achieve positive outcomes and improved educational results. Changes in the rules of a UIL contest are in accordance with stated educational objectives of the UIL. Occasionally, however, modifications in procedures raise questions. The problem of this study was to determine, from the perceptions of administrators and teachers, whether significant modifications in the rules and policies for the UIL One-Act Play Contest over a time span of 20 years have had impacts on the goals and procedures of the contest. The study utilized a qualitative approach through historical analysis and a survey to answer two research questions. Historical analysis identified the six modifications in the UIL OAP over the years 1986-2006. The survey instrument determined the impact of these changes on the goals and procedures of the contest. Based on the responses of the survey the competition experience has been enhanced by recent changes.

The Works for Clarinet Commissioned by the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale de Genève: A Critical Survey and Performance GuideAllgeier, Anthony Joseph, III 08 1900 (has links)
Beginning in 1939, the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale de Genève (CIEM; Geneva International Music Competition) is unique among international music competitions in its multidisciplinary approach. To date, fifteen works have been commissioned for clarinet for the years in which the clarinet was involved. The most well-known of these works is the unaccompanied work by Heinrich Sutermeister, Capriccio for Solo Clarinet in A, written in 1946 for the 1947 competition. This work is a staple in the unaccompanied clarinet repertoire. However, the other fourteen works commissioned for the competition are little known and to date no document has been prepared that examines each of these works in the context of the competition and clarinet literature. While perhaps less notable, works were also commissioned for a sight reading portion of the competition for many of the years in which the clarinet was a discipline chosen for the competition, two of which were published. These works are examined as well. This survey provides a critical, analytical, historical, performance-related and biographical review of the published and unpublished works commissioned for the clarinet by CIEM. The composers, competitors and the significance of these works and winners in the clarinet literature and history are included. A chapter is dedicated to each piece which includes performance considerations, critical, analytical, and historical information as well as biographical information regarding the composer and the competitors where available.

Eerstens is ’n literatuurstudie gedoen. ENGLISH : This study examines the influence of Unisa’s Overseas Music Scholarship for Performers on the music development of South Africa. Two research methods were used to achieve this. Firstly, a literature study was conducted. This was done to obtain existing information regarding the careers of performing artists, define the term ‘professional musician’, study the influence of formal and informal music education on young music students as well as to uncover the relationship between teaching and performing careers. Secondly, a quesionnaire was sent to all available Unisa Overseas Music Scholarship winners between 1970 and 2000. The aim of the quesionnaire was to gain information regarding the winners’ personal experience of their education and careers. Quantitative and qualitative data was gained through this research method. Although the respons rate was low, valuable information was gathered regarding the influence that the Unisa Overseas Music Scholarship had on the scholarship winners. The data showed the capacity of the scholarship winners’ careers as well as the contribution they make in the performing and teaching environment. The results showed that more scholarship winners settled in South Africa, while many of those who settled overseas, still visit South Africa on a professional basis. The fact that most of the scholarship winners lead sucsessful music careers and are mostly highly qualified, indicates that Unisa’s Overseas Music Scholarship forms an integral part in the development of South Africa’s music industry. / Dissertation (MMus)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Music / Unrestricted
