The (n)-Solvable Filtration of the Link Concordance Group and Milnor's mu-Invariaants

January 2011 (has links)
We establish several new results about the ( n )-solvable filtration, [Special characters omitted.] , of the string link concordance group [Special characters omitted.] . We first establish a relationship between ( n )-solvability of a link and its Milnor's μ-invariants. We study the effects of the Bing doubling operator on ( n )-solvability. Using this results, we show that the "other half" of the filtration, namely [Special characters omitted.] , is nontrivial and contains an infinite cyclic subgroup for links with sufficiently many components. We will also show that links modulo (1)-solvability is a nonabelian group. Lastly, we prove that the Grope filtration, [Special characters omitted.] of [Special characters omitted.] is not the same as the ( n )-solvable filtration.

Latreille, Marie-Eve 11 April 2012 (has links)

Lower order solvability of links

Martin, Taylor 16 September 2013 (has links)
The n-solvable filtration of the link concordance group, defined by Cochran, Orr, and Teichner in 2003, is a tool for studying smooth knot and link concordance that yields important results in low-dimensional topology. We focus on the first two stages of the n-solvable filtration, which are the class of 0-solvable links and the class of 0.5-solvable links. We introduce a new equivalence relation on links called 0-solve equivalence and establish both an algebraic and a geometric characterization 0-solve equivalent links. As a result, we completely characterize 0-solvable links and we give a classification of links up to 0-solve equivalence. We relate 0-solvable links to known results about links bounding gropes and Whitney towers in the 4-ball. We then establish a sufficient condition for a link to be 0.5-solvable and show that 0.5-solvable links must have vanishing Sato-Levine invariants.

Regensburger Verbundklassifikation und Schlagwortnormdatei im Tandem

Probstmeyer, Judith 24 January 2011 (has links) (PDF)

The Use of Textural Kinetic Habitats to Mine Diagnostic Information from DCE MR Images of Breast Tumors

Chaudhury, Baishali 01 January 2015 (has links)
Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) of the breast is a widely used non-invasive approach to gather information about the underlying physiology of breast tumors. Recent studies indicate that breast tumor heterogeneity may reflect the presence of different levels of cellular aggressiveness or habitats within the tumor. This heterogeneity has been correlated to the variations in the contrast enhancement patterns within the tumor apparent on gadolinium-enhanced DCE-MRI. Although pathological and qualitative (based on contrast enhancement patterns) studies suggest the presence of clini- cal and molecular predictive tumor sub-regions, this has not been fully investigated in the quantitative domain. The new era of cancer imaging emphasizes the use of Radiomics to provide in vivo quan- titative prognostic and predictive imaging biomarkers. Thus Radiomics focuses on apply- ing image analysis techniques to quantify tumor radiographic properties to create mineable databases from radiological images. In this research work, the Radiomics approach was ap- plied to develop a novel computer aided diagnosis (CAD) model for quantifying intratumor heterogeneity not only within the tumor as a whole, but also within tumor habitats with an intent to build predictive models in breast cancer. The process of building these predictive models started with 2-D tumor segmentation followed by habitat extraction (based on vari- ations in contrast patterns and geometry) and textural kinetic feature extraction to quantify habitat heterogeneity. A new correlation based random subspace ensemble framework was developed to evaluate the textural kinetics from the individual tumor habitats. This new CAD framework was applied to predict two clinical and prognostic factors: Axillary lymph node (ALN) metastases and Estrogen receptor (ER) status. An AUC of more than 0.8 was achieved for classifying breast tumors based on number of ALN involvement. The highest AUC of 0.91 was achieved for classifying tumors with no ALN metastases from tumors with 4 or more ALN metastases. For classifying tumors based on ER status the highest AUC of 0.87 was achieved. These results were acquired by utilizing the textural kinetic features from the tumor habitat with rapid delayed washout. The results presented in this work showed that the heterogeneity within the tumor habitats which showed rapid contrast washout in the delayed phase, correlated with aggressive cellular phenotypes. This work hypothesizes that successfully quantifying these prognostic factors will prove to be clinically significant as it can improve the diagnostic accuracy. This, in turn, will im- prove the breast cancer treatment paradigm by providing more tailored treatment regimens for aggressive tumors.

Personalizing Western Herbal Medicine: Weaving a Tapestry of Right Relationships, a Grounded Theory Study

Niemeyer, Kathryn Jean January 2013 (has links)
Western herbal medicine (WHM) is a whole system of medicine that is based on beliefs and practices that evolved distinct from conventional Western medicine. Practitioners of WHM use naturally-occurring crude plant materials, such as roots or flowers with little processing for persons with chronic disease. Herbal medicines are formulated and designed for each person's unique symptom variations, energetic profile, cause and supporting mechanisms of the health issue. This approach to herbal medicine is not explicated in the literature and contrasts the use of highly-processed herb products in a one-size-fits-all approach that fails to reflect WHM as a whole complex system. The purpose of this study was to develop a grounded theory explaining the basic social psychological process WHM practitioners use to formulate plant medicines for individuals. Data were collected from a theoretical sample of 17 North American WHM practitioners contributing a total of 39 interviews and analyzed using the constant comparison method. The process of Personalizing Western Herbal Medicine consists of five steps with a decision-making subprocess of five steps. The core concept of Weaving a Tapestry of Right Relationships explains what practitioners do when Personalizing Western Herbal Medicine. Right relationship is emergent coherence and accounts for wholeness as the relationship of the parts and weaves through connecting each step in Personalizing Western Herbal Medicine. Creating Concordance describes right relationship between the person and the herbal medicine. Concordance is achieved when an herbal medicine fits the whole person and there is a personal shift or restoration of dynamic equilibrium.

Concordance des temps de l’indicatif en français et son transfert en lituanien / Tiesioginės kalbos laikų derinimo perteikimas į lietuvių kalbą / Transformation of sequence of tenses of direct language to Lithuanian

Bagdanavičius, Ramūnas 09 August 2011 (has links)
