Desvendando o campo da sociologia ambiental = revisão de artigos selecionados / Unveilling the field of environemental sociology : review of selected articles

Bacchiegga, Fábio, 1980- 18 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Leila da Costa Ferreira / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-18T00:14:49Z (GMT). The environmental issue has become the object of broad discussion in recent decades it was the subject of debate, delimiting and building a solid presence, especially in academic. Emerged during the 1960s, within a very specific historical context - counterculture and criticisms of the current predatory model of development - and arrives in Brazil about 1970, assuming a singular face, now as a criticism of the end of the "Economic Miracle" and the environmental impacts resulting from this development option. Knowing the process of institutionalization is important to understand how environmental sociology leaves the status subfield areas of sociology, such as rural, and achieves a specific field. This project, which is part of the work, "The Environmental Issue, Interdisciplinary, Social Theory and Intellectual Production in Latin America" (NEPAM/UNICAMP) developed since 2006, aims at analyzing the articles on the theme "Environment and Society" published in major journals related to the Humanities area of Brazil 1980 to 2007, from the method "Content Analysis", and thus contribute to understanding the process of (re) making of Environmental Sociology as a specific area of sociological thought / Mestrado / Sociologia / Mestre em Sociologia

Campanhas eleitorais brasileiras na internet

Fernandez, Rogerio Garcia 28 April 2005 (has links)
Orientador: Thomas Patrick Dwyer / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciencias Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-05T22:09:59Z (GMT). This dissertation analyzes the use of websites in election campaigns in Brazil in the years 1998, 2000 and 2002. In these years mayoral, state governors and presidential campaigns were analyzed. The dissertation also discusses the role of the mass media, and in particular the Internet, in democratic societies. The methodologies used to study the media are analyzed and special attention is paid to the technique of content analysis. This method was adapted from the bibliography in order to empirically study the web sites selected in the three election periods. Over the short time period covered by this dissertation it was possible to identify an increasingly personal content in sites, at the same time as political discussion was seen to be more pragmatic, making proposals of a practical nature, than ideological. Websites in Brazil appear as tools which are capable of widening the democratic debate because they provide more content than is available in other media. The research also detected the role of technological change, as internet technology permits the use of new resources, these are incorporated into web sites which change to accompany technological evolution. Politicians who use websites seek to provide citizens with greater information than would be otherwise available, however, this is provided in a space which is increasingly configured and controlled in function of the needs and perceptions of the candidate / Mestrado / Mestre em Ciência Política

The content validation of a virtual assessment centre

Müller, Klaus-Peter 18 July 2013 (has links)
M. Phil. (Industrial Psychology) / Orientation: Assessment centres (ACs) are a popular method of assessment, as they offer a direct, practical link to the required job, which link is not inferred but observed through candidate behaviour. Given the popularity of ACs in South Africa and how content is often borrowed from the USA, research in the applicability of US content in South Africa is justified. Research purpose: The main purpose of this study was to determine whether the selected US-developed virtual assessment centre (VAC) appeared to measure what it claimed to, and to determine whether the content found within the VAC is suitable for South Africa. Motivation for the study: A solid pre-statistical foundation of content forms the backbone of assessing validity. Content validation analysis is well-suited to analysing the relevance of AC simulations in a specific cultural context. The case exists that too often content validation is either implied, or that no more than a paragraph is deemed sufficient to explain content validation efforts. Research design: A content evaluation schedule was developed that covered seven content validation dimensions and consisted of 50 items. 13 Subject matter experts (SMEs) and 9 experienced middle level managers, who were considered functional experts (FEs), were tasked to assess an imported VAC using the developed evaluation schedule. Main findings: This study indicated that the VAC appears to measure what it purports to, and that the content found within the VAC is suitable for use in the South African context. Practical/Managerial implications: Content created in the USA can be assessed for relevance and applicability for use in South Africa through content validation. Contribution and value add: This study contributes to AC literature and assessment methodology by demonstrating the importance and utility of content validation. Importers and developers of AC content may use this study’s techniques to validate content so as to meet legislative requirements and ensure domain relevance of content.

The use of computer technology to compare and analyze community college dissertations

Berry, William Lee 17 July 1989 (has links)
A purpose of this research study was to demonstrate the practical linguistic study and evaluation of dissertations by using two examples of the latest technology, the microcomputer and optical scanner. That involved developing efficient methods for data entry plus creating computer algorithms appropriate for personal, linguistic studies. The goal was to develop a prototype investigation which demonstrated practical solutions for maximizing the linguistic potential of the dissertation data base. The mode of text entry was from a Dest PC Scan 1000 Optical Scanner. The function of the optical scanner was to copy the complete stack of educational dissertations from the Florida Atlantic University Library into an I.B.M. XT microcomputer. The optical scanner demonstrated its practical value by copying 15,900 pages of dissertation text directly into the microcomputer. A total of 199 dissertations or 72% of the entire stack of education dissertations (277) were successfully copied into the microcomputer's word processor where each dissertation was analyzed for a variety of syntax frequencies. The results of the study demonstrated the practical use of the optical scanner for data entry, the microcomputer for data and statistical analysis, and the availability of the college library as a natural setting for text studies. A supplemental benefit was the establishment of a computerized dissertation corpus which could be used for future research and study. The final step was to build a linguistic model of the differences in dissertation writing styles by creating 7 factors from 55 dependent variables through principal components factor analysis. The 7 factors (textual components) were then named and described on a hypothetical construct defined as a continuum from a conversational, interactional style to a formal, academic writing style. The 7 factors were then grouped through discriminant analysis to create discriminant functions for each of the 7 independent variables. The results indicated that a conversational, interactional writing style was associated with more recent dissertations (1972-1987), an increase in author's age, females, and the department of Curriculum and Instruction. A formal, academic writing style was associated with older dissertations (1972-1987), younger authors, males, and the department of Administration and Supervision. It was concluded that there were no significant differences in writing style due to subject matter (community college studies) compared to other subject matter. It was also concluded that there were no significant differences in writing style due to the location of dissertation origin (Florida Atlantic University, University of Central Florida, Florida International University).

Content of Communication in English 7Teacher Choices and Underlying Factors

Persson Ghylfe, Niklas January 2021 (has links)
This essay provides perspectives from four teachers with over eighty years combinedexperience on their choices of content of communications in English 7. The reason forconducting this study is that in English 7, which is the last English course in Swedish uppersecondaryschool, the teacher may face a diverse group of students with different programgoals, which may lead to different content needs. The aim of the study is to explore thisquestion, considering factors that affect choices in the course and what social domain it will besituated in.Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with four experienced teachers andanalyzed using qualitative content analysis. The study reveals that one strategy for solving theabove-mentioned problem is student influence, which, in short, means that the teacher lets thestudents pick content that matches the requirements in the content of communications. Otherfindings reveal that relationships with other teachers can affect the communication content incross-subject work, the teachers second subject and personal interests affect have differentamounts of influence, what method the teacher choose in course units and what part of thecurriculum the teachers consider a priority. This essay is useful for several purposes, policymakers will be able to see how teacher reason and practice particular parts of policydocuments, teachers will be able to ask themselves the same questions and reflect on whataffects their own teaching, and teaching students will be able to see how they can include theirpassion or knowledge into subject matter.

Communication theory and the construction of meaning : a constructive developmental approach

Fraser, Merri Lee 01 January 1987 (has links) (PDF)
In recent years the field of communication has been experiencing a movement toward newer non-tradtional approaches to the study of communication and information. Among these newer approaches is a growing body of research that focuses on interpretive behavior in the communication process. Brenda Dervin's Sense-Making model of communication/information has been the most widely used interpretive theory of information to date. Sense-Making focuses primarily upon the role of the receiver in the communication process and how individuals construct meaning in specific situations. As a result, Sense-Making has not attended adequately to larger shared frameworks of meaning and the effects that they have upon information seeking and use. It is the purpose of this thesis to strengthen Dervin's theory of Sense-Making by gaining a deeper view of the individual in the construction process and yet broadening the meaning making context to include structural concerns. The work of William Perry on cognitive and ethical development will be examined and applied to Sense-Making theory and data to provide a more in-depth understanding of how individuals construct meaning and use information. As a framework for examining shared structures of meaning, James Fowler's theory of faith development has also been applied to Sense-Making theory and data with particular emphasis on relational aspects. These theories are applied to Sense-Making in an effort to develop a more complete view of the individual in the communication process.
