Ladislav Helge: mezi mocí a filmem / Ladislav Helge: Caught between film and politics

Rousek, Jan January 2015 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to map political activities of Ladislav Helge, a film director. Due to his social sensitivity and sympathies for the Red army as a liberator of Czechoslovkaia, he favored left-wing politics. At the beginning of his career he was not involved in politics and instead immersed himself fully in his profession of a film director. His first initiation to the world of politics came with the shooting of Frona. This film represents a turning point in both his artistic and political activities. Gradual de-Stalinization across the 1950s happened alongside Helge's first independent film project and his deliberate joining of KSC. The political intervention of the communist party into the liberal functioning of Czechoslovak film during the Banska Bystrica film festival determined his political activism that was to follow. In the mid 1960s Helge, as a leader of a professional film organization FITES, stood up to the attempts of the communist functionaries to curtail the artistic freedom of filmmakers belonging to the New Wave movement. Between 1968 and 1969 he led the Coordinating committee of creative associations and defended the freedoms gained during the Prague Spring. Soon after, his employment at Barrandov studios was terminated. In 1977 he signed the Anti-Charter. The last chapter...

No. of bitstreams: 1 Luana Serra Elias Tavares.pdf: 7112984 bytes, checksum: 94e56fc00fcc824c030a72640e9d2dc3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-12-17 / The present study intend for investigating if the coordinating teacher practice their professional authorship when they act as a literacy teacher trainer, from a perspective of the "Reading and Writing Program" (SEE-SP). It aims to do research, in the coordinating teachers´ eyes, how much literacy this public policy action, configured as a student obligatory program, invests on the autonomy construction of this subject as a teachers trainer, as well as comprehend the training choices prioritized by himself in the foundation of literacy teachers (teaching contents, strategies, planning process, socialization, knowledge mediation, among others). In this sense the study adopts a methodological approach, relied on a quality content analysis technique (BARDIN, 2011) and uses collecting information instruments as a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. It still makes the use of the official and technical type of documentation analysis, like the registration of formative guidelines performed by people mentioned before. From an exploratory study aiming to raise the profile of the subjects totality (75 coordinating teachers), were elected three professionals who work with their technical documents and then the interviews. The theoretical reference this study is based on are: Nóvoa (1991, 1995, 2002, 2007, 2009), Foucault (1992, 1996, 2006, 2012), Ball (1994, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008) and Contreras (2002), for bringing reflections that found and lay the foundation on this discussion, and Bardin (2011), in the material analysis obtained from the interviews. As the results, the study certifies that the demanded space for an acting, in fact, autonomous, is restricted by the limits imposed by the policy that rules the Reading and Writing Program. It becomes evident, the presence of a power relationship that this policy inserts in the educational systems, promoting people that auto-regulate themselves and complete mutually. Although the official speech and the studied subjects defend the professional autonomy, the investigation shows up the opposing fact it has been researched between reproduction versus authorship needs to be relativized, once it is not possible to polarize this reality, as well as it becomes clear the utopia of thinking about an absolute autonomy or in a total reproduction.

Engineering semiconductor nanocrystals for molecular, cellular, and in vivo imaging

Smith, Andrew Michael 13 November 2008 (has links)
Biomedicine has recently exploited many nanotechnology platforms for the detection and treatment of disease as well as for the fundamental study of cellular biology. A prime example of these successes is the implementation of semiconductor quantum dots in a wide range of biological and medical applications, from in vitro biosensing to in vivo cancer imaging. Quantum dots are nearly spherical nanocrystals composed of semiconductor materials that can emit fluorescent light with high intensity and a strong resistance to degradation. The aim of this thesis is to understand the fundamental physics of colloidal quantum dots, to engineer their optical and structural properties for applications in biology and medicine, and to examine the interaction of these particles with biomolecules and living cells. Toward these goals, new synthetic strategies for colloidal nanocrystals have been developed, implementing a cation exchange method for independent tuning of size and fluorescence, and a bandgap engineering technique that utilizes mechanical strain imposed by coherent shell growth. In addition, stable nanocrystals have been prepared with ultrathin coatings (< 2 nm), 'amphibious' solubility, and broadly tunable bioaffinity, induced by self-assembly with polyhistidine-sequences on recombinant proteins. Finally, colloidal quantum dots have been studied in biological fluids and living cells in order to elucidate their interactions with biological systems. It was found that these interactions are strongly dependent on the size of the nanocrystal, and cytotoxic effects of these particles are largely independent of their composition of heavy metal atoms, demonstrating that the rule book for toxicology must be rewritten for nanomaterials.

Relays in Rebellion: The Power in Lilian Ngoyi and Fannie Lou Hamer

Freeman, Cathy LaVerne 10 August 2009 (has links)
This thesis compares how Lilian Ngoyi of South Africa and Fannie Lou Hamer of the United States crafted political identities and assumed powerful leadership, respectively, in struggles against racial oppression via the African National Congress and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. The study asserts that Ngoyi and Hamer used alternative sources of personal power which arose from their location in the intersecting social categories of culture, gender and class. These categories challenge traditional disciplinary boundaries and complicate any analysis of political economy, state power relations and black liberation studies which minimize the contributions of women. Also, by analyzing resistance leadership squarely within both African and North American contexts, this thesis answers the call of scholar Patrick Manning for a “homeland and diaspora” model which positions Africa itself within the historiography of transnational academic debates.

Selecting Russian Conjunctions for Swedish-Russian and Russian-Swedish Dictionary Mini+

Dergacheva, Irina January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to work out criteria for selection of Russian conjunctions for the Swedish-Russian and Russian-Swedish dictionary Mini+ and to suggest a list of conjunctions to be included in it. The present study aims at collecting information, classifying it and examining Russian conjunctions in present-day Russian. The study also systemizes gathered material according to its diachronic features and makes corpus-based co-occurrence analysis, using Russian National Corpus (RNC) and Google Scholar. The paper presents a list of conjunctions to be included into the Russian part of the lexicon, based primarily on their grammatical and stylistic criteria as well as the results of the corpus-based frequency analysis. The choice takes into consideration limitations in size of the given dictionary. Out of a total 272 conjunctions, 55 were chosen for the Russian Swedish Mini+ dictionary. The major group (35) is simple conjunctions that frequently occur in corpus-based search and that are necessary to build basic grammar structures as well as other compound conjunctions, ex. The second group (13) is compound conjunctions that are important for building most frequent subordinate clauses. The third group (7) is compound conjunctions that frequently occur in corpora.

Synthèse et étude de l'activité catalytique de nouveaux complexes cationiques bien définis à base de gallium(I) et d'indium(I), évaluation de divers sels à l'anion faiblement coordinant en tant qu’abstracteurs d'halogénures. / Synthesis and study of the catalytic activity of new well-defined gallium(I) and indium(I)-based cationic complexes, evaluation of diverse weakly coordinating anion-containing salts as halide abstractors.

Thiery, Guillaume, Jean, Gregoire, 22 November 2016 (has links)
In the main project of this thesis work, the catalytic activity of gallium(I)-based complexes was explored. The aim was to keep on looking for alternatives to noble metals-based, more common catalysts, which have a reputation for being expensive and/or toxic. The know-how developed in the team on gallium(III)-based catalysis was reinvested into the study of this low oxidation degree of gallium, only scarcely studied in the literature. It was hoped to then detect different reactivity and/or selectivity than with gallium(III) complexes. Thus, the well-defined, cationic, gallium(I)-based complex [Ga(PhF)2][Al(OC(CF3)3)4] was used in a large array of reactions that were already successfully studied with gallium(III)-based catalysts, such as the hydroarylation of arenynes, the Friedel-Crafts reaction or the transfer hydrogenation of alkenes. In this later reaction in particular, the observed reactivity was superior to that achieved with the catalysts more commonly used in the team. An indium(I)-based analogue, [In(PhF)2][Al(OC(CF3)3)4], was also tested in these reactions, without any success. However, it was actually efficient in the context of aminoalkenes hydroamination reactions. The side-project of this work consisted in the study as halide abstractors of complexes, based on diverse metals (silver, lithium, potassium, thallium(I)) and containing the perfluorinated, very bulky and very weakly coordinating anion (WCA) [Al(OC(CF3)3)4]-. In the frame of the activation of gold(I), gallium(III) or even indium(III)-based pre-catalysts by halide abstraction, silver salts are the most frequently used. However, these silver salts are not non-innocent in terms of reactivity. Besides, if the cationic metal of the salts used in halide abstraction are the subject of a reasonable amount of studies in the literature, it is not the case of their anionic counterparts: we planned to address these two problematics with this project. It appeared that the very weakly coordinating properties of the anion [Al(OC(CF3)3)4]- in the context of the previously referred to reactions classically catalyzed by gold(I) or gallium(III)-based complexes led to different reactivity and selectivity than those achieved with the usual salts and in particular AgSbF6. The gallium(I) and indium(I)-based complexes involved into the main project were also briefly studied in this side-project.
