Müterthies, A., Pakzad, K., Yang, C., Teuwsen, S., Janzen, A., Goerke-Mallet, P., Melchers, C. 16 July 2019 (has links)

CRAMO : Continuously Rendered Aerial Maps with Open Data

Hedin, Andreas January 2019 (has links)
One issue with a lot of the free aerial satellite maps that exists is the actuality of the acquired images in terms of the acquisition date. A lot of times the images are a few years old and will not represent the current reality. This project will try and mitigate this by using free open data from the Copernicus directive supplied by the European Space Agency ESA and use that to create maps. By doing this the ability to have daily updated aerial satellite maps occurs and that could be really interesting for scientific and commercial purposes. To make this work an automated process was created that downloaded the images from Copernicus and processed them with GDAL to create the maps. The process deals with the issues of mosaicing, reprojection and unattended downloads amongst other things. In the results, there is a comparison between three different maps to give a comparison and an idea of how big of a map the process can handle in a reasonable time.

A defesa do copernicanismo por Galileu Galilei

Soares, Jerry Luiz 18 July 2013 (has links)

The celestial discoveries made possible with the usage of spyglasses allowed Galileo to challenge some of the aristotelic principles of cosmology and to break up the limits imposed to astronomy as hypothetical discipline which would aim just to "save the phenomena".

G. J. Rheticus and the Authorship of the Anonymous Epistola de terrae motu

Higgins, Shannon 06 August 2013 (has links)
This thesis considers the anonymously published Epistola de terrae motu and the question of its authorship. The authorship of this treatise was attributed to G. J. Rheticus by Reijer Hooykaas in a publication released in 1984; however, that attribution is not decisive. The first chapter introduces De terrae motu and is followed by a second chapter that contains a review of the relevant historiography relating to scholarship on Rheticus. The third chapter presents Rheticus’ biography. The fourth chapter considers the inconclusive reasoning for the attribution of authorship to Rheticus. The fifth and sixth chapters consider the environment of scriptural hermeneutics in the early modern period, both theoretically and with recourse to specific texts, respectively. The seventh chapter concludes this thesis with a synthesis of the arguments herein which ultimately indicate that it is conceivable that Rheticus wrote De terrae motu but an early seventeenth-century Catholic author is more likely.
