Auxinas e tipos de estacas no enraizamento de Camellia sinensis / Auxins and types of cuttings on rootings of Camellia sinensis

Luigi Tancredi Campo Dall'Orto 26 August 2011 (has links)
Aiming to evaluate the influence of Camellia sinensis cultivars, types of cuttings and doses of IBA on rooting, two experiments have been conducted in a green house in the experimental design in blocks randomized with 16 treatments, arranged in a 2 x 2 x 4, that is, cutting types (herbaceous and woody), cultivars (Camellia sinensis \'IAC 259\' and \'Yabukita\') and four doses of butyric acid (IBA) (0, 30, 60 and 90 mg L -1) with four replications. Each replication consisted of 20 cuttings from the middle portion of the branches from the mother plants, collected in two seasons (summer and winter). The cuttings were cut in bevel and maintained with a bud and a leaf, with 5-7 cm long. The basal cuttings have received or not treatment with indol butyric acid (IBA) by immersion of 2.5 cm from the base in an aqueous solution of the product for 24 hours. Later, they have been placed in trays with 72 cells containing medium granules of vermiculite. Herbaceous cuttings have presented higher percentages of rooting with IBA application compared to hardwood cuttings, and cuttings collected in summer have showed the highest percentage of rooting in the shortest time compared with the cuttings collected in winter. Yabukita cultivars cuttings had higher rooting potential in relation to the IAC 259 cuttings. IBA level to the rooting of Camellia sinensis varied from 56 to 83 mg L-1 according to cultivars

Performance of slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) containerized rooted cuttings and bare-root seedlings established on five planting dates in the flatlands of western Louisiana

Akgul, Alper 29 August 2005 (has links)
The forest product industry is keenly interested in extending the normal planting season, as well as in the comparative field performance of standard nursery bare-root seedlings and containerized rooted cuttings. The effect of seasonal planting dates on survival, above and belowground biomass allocation, water relations, gas exchange attributes and foliar carbon isotope composition (δ13C) of two stock types of slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) were examined. Slash pine bare-root seedlings (BRS) and containerized rooted cuttings (CRC) were hand planted in September, November, January, March and April in three consecutive planting seasons (2000-2001, 2001-2002 and 2002-2003) on three sites with silt loam topsoils in southwestern Louisiana. First-year mean survival of CRC across all planting dates and sites was consistently high at 96 to 98%, whereas BRS survival was significantly (P < 0.0001) lower at 59 to 81% and highly variable among study sites and dates through three planting seasons. Generally, there was a negative relationship between soil moisture at the time of planting and first-year survival of BRS planted September through March in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 planting seasons, whereas the opposite was observed only for BRS planted in April 2002 and 2003. Survival of CRC was affected very little by the variation in soil moisture. Containerized rooted cuttings had higher early above and belowground biomass, and height and diameter than did BRS. However, three years after planting the size differences between stock types disappeared or became negligible. Early size differences among trees planted September through March also decreased after three years, although September trees were tallest. Growth of the April-planted trees was poor compared to trees planted in other months. Late-planted April trees had higher δ13C values, and higher water-use efficiency in the first growing season compared to earlier planted trees. Differences in δ13C values among the planting dates disappeared in the second growing season. Net photosynthesis rates did not differ considerably between stock types or among planting dates in the second and third growing seasons. This study indicates that it is possible to extend the planting season to as early as September and as late as March by using CRC.

Split Trees, Cuttings and Explosions

Holmgren, Cecilia January 2010 (has links)
This thesis is based on four papers investigating properties of split trees and also introducing new methods for studying such trees. Split trees comprise a large class of random trees of logarithmic height and include e.g., binary search trees, m-ary search trees, quadtrees, median of (2k+1)-trees, simplex trees, tries and digital search trees. Split trees are constructed recursively, using “split vectors”, to distribute n “balls” to the vertices/nodes. The vertices of a split tree may contain different numbers of balls; in computer science applications these balls often represent “key numbers”. In the first paper, it was tested whether a recently described method for determining the asymptotic distribution of the number of records (or cuts) in a deterministic complete binary tree could be extended to binary search trees. This method used a classical triangular array theorem to study the convergence of sums of triangular arrays to infinitely divisible distributions. It was shown that with modifications, the same approach could be used to determine the asymptotic distribution of the number of records (or cuts) in binary search trees, i.e., in a well-characterized type of random split trees. In the second paper, renewal theory was introduced as a novel approach for studying split trees. It was shown that this theory is highly useful for investigating these types of trees. It was shown that the expected number of vertices (a random number) divided by the number of balls, n, converges to a constant as n tends to infinity. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the number of vertices is concentrated around its mean value. New results were also presented regarding depths of balls and vertices in split trees. In the third paper, it was tested whether the methods of proof to determine the asymptotic distribution of the number of records (or cuts) used in the binary search tree, could be extended to split trees in general. Using renewal theory it was demonstrated for the overall class of random split trees that the normalized number of records (or cuts) has asymptotically a weakly 1-stable distribution. In the fourth paper, branching Markov chains were introduced to investigate split trees with immigration, i.e., CTM protocols and their generalizations. It was shown that there is a natural relationship between the Markov chain and a multi-type (Galton-Watson) process that is well adapted to study stability in the corresponding tree. A stability condition was presented to describe a phase transition deciding when the process is stable or unstable (i.e., the tree explodes). Further, the use of renewal theory also proved to be useful for studying split trees with immigration. Using this method it was demonstrated that when the tree is stable (i.e., finite), there is the same type of expression for the number of vertices as for normal split trees.

Modeling Of Newtonian Fluids And Cuttings Transport Analysis In High Inclination Wellbores With Pipe Rotation

Sorgun, Mehmet 01 May 2007 (has links) (PDF)
This study aims to investigate hydraulics and the flow characteristics of drilling fluids inside annulus and to understand the mechanism of cuttings transport in horizontal and deviated wellbores. For this purpose, initially, extensive experimental studies have been conducted at Middle East Technical University, Petroleum &amp / Natural Gas Engineering Flow Loop using water and numerous drilling fluids for hole inclinations from horizontal to 60 degrees, flow velocities from 0.64 m/s to 3.05 m/s, rate of penetrations from 0.00127 to 0.0038 m/s, and pipe rotations from 0 to 120 rpm. Pressure loss within the test section and stationary and/or moving bed thickness are recorded. New friction factor charts and correlations as a function of Reynolds number and cuttings bed thickness with the presence of pipe rotation for water and drilling fluids in horizontal and deviated wellbores are developed by using experimental data. Meanwhile empirical correlations that can be used easily at the field are proposed for predicting stationary bed thickness and frictional pressure loss using dimensional analysis and the effect of the drilling parameters on hole cleaning is discussed. It has been observed that, the major variable influencing cuttings transport is fluid velocity. Moreover, pipe rotation drastically decreases the critical fluid velocity that is required to prevent the stationary cuttings bed development, especially if the pipe is making an orbital motion. A decrease in the pressure loss is observed due to the bed erosion while rotating the pipe. Cuttings transport in horizontal annulus is modeled using a CFD software for different fluid velocities, pipe rotation speeds and rate of penetrations. The CFD model is verified by using cuttings transport experiments. A mathematical model is also proposed to predict the flow characteristics of Newtonian fluids in concentric horizontal annulus with drillpipe rotation. The Navier-Stokes equations of turbulent flow are numerically solved using finite differences technique. A computer code is developed in Matlab 2007b for the proposed model. The performance of the proposed model is compared with the experimental data which were available in the literature and gathered at METU-PETE Flow Loop as well as Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) software. The results showed that the mechanistic model accurately predicts the frictional pressure loss and the velocity profile inside the annuli. The model&rsquo / s frictional pressure loss estimations are within an error range of &plusmn / 10%.

Visual classification of ornamental plants seedlings: analysis of attribute selection efficacy.

Luiz Otávio Lamardo Alves Silva 03 December 2013 (has links)
The automation of visual classification of products is gaining more importance in agricultural production processes. That said, one of the main difficulties encountered by ornamental plants and flowers producers is to ensure homogeneous growth of their plants. In this scenario, the seedlings used to grow the plants are very important since it is possible to estimate their growth potential by means of a visual inspection. Therefore, a computer vision system can be used to automate this task. Unlike traditional industries, the agricultural industry shows great variability among the products inspected. Supervised machine learning techniques can evaluate an attribute set representing the inspected object in order to correctly classify it, making it possible not only to deal with the variability of the inspected products but also with the incorporation of experts knowledge into the system. The definition of the attribute set to be extracted from the images of the products is of utmost importance, as it is it that provides all information used by the system. A set with several attributes ensures that all necessary information is captured; however irrelevant or redundant attributes can affect the performance of classifiers. Attribute selection techniques can be used to balance these needs. The aim of this study was then to evaluate the effectiveness of these techniques regarding the classification of African violet seedlings. Twenty- six parameters were extracted from six hundred images, labeled into four quality groups. Then, the performances of six classifiers were compared by considering the universe of subsets generated by four attribute selection techniques. The results showed that these techniques are indeed advantageous, generating gains of up to 8.8% in accuracy rate while reducing from 26 to 11 the average number of attributes used. Logistic Regression classifier, associated with the subset generated by the Chi-squared filter showed the best overall performance, achieving 80 % accuracy. Random Forest was second, but was less sensitive to attribute selection.

PROPAGAÇÃO VEGETATIVA DE LOURO-PARDO (Cordia trichotoma (VELL.) ARRAB. EX STEUD.) POR ESTAQUIA RADICULAR E MINIESTAQUIA / VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION OF LOURO-PARDO (Cordia trichotoma (VELL.) ARRAB. EX STEUD.) FROM ROOT CUTTING AND MINICUTTING

Nascimento, Paula Kielse Vargas do 27 April 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The aim of this work was to study the vegetative propagation of louro-pardo (Cordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arrab. ex Steud.) from root cuttings and minicuttings. Three trials were conducted. The first trial, roots were gotten from adult trees of louro-pardo. Root cuttings with 5.0 cm of length were classified in two diameters: thick (2.0 - 3.0 cm) and thin (< 2.0 cm). The root cuttings were immersed for 10 s. in an indolbutiric acid (IBA) solution of 0, 4000, 8000 or 12000 mg L-1. At 180 days, the percentages of sprouting and rooting, the number and length of shoots and roots were evaluated. Root cuttings from adult trees of louro-pardo showed 1.25% of sprouting, but they did not root. The second trial, root cuttings were gotten from three year-old plants of louro-pardo and root cuttings classified in small (1.0 - 1.5 cm) and large (1.6 - 2.5 cm) and immersed for 10 s. in an IBA solution of 0, 2000, 4000 or 6000 mg L-1. At 30 and 60 days, the percentages of rooted cuttings; sprouted cuttings; and survival of cuttings; the number and length of sprouted and rooted cuttings were evaluated. Root cuttings treated with 6000 mg L-1 of IBA had the best response in terms of sprouting and rooting. Large root cuttings showed the highest percentage of sprouting (26%), the highest number of sprouts (0.30) and the longhest sprouts and roots (2.27 and 5.40 cm) at 60 days of evaluation. The third trial, root cuttings were classified according to the position in the root system as basal, medium and apical. Cutting measuring 1.0; 3.0 or 5.0 cm of length were immersed for 10 s. in an IBA solution of 6000 mg L-1. At 60 and 90 days, the percentages of rooted and sprouted cuttings; and survival; the number and length of sprouted and rooted cuttings were evaluated. Basal and medium cuttings had the best response in terms of sprouting and rooting. Root cuttings measuring 3.0 and 5.0 cm were better than those with 1.0 cm of length. In this study, we also carried out trials with minicuttings of louro-pardo. The first trial, ministumps from plantlets of asexual and seminal origin with six and 12 month-old were fertilized with different nutrient solutions. The production of minicuttings per ministump was evaluated after 30 and 60 days. Minicuttings from these ministumps were treated or not with 1000 mg L-1 of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). At 30 days, the percentage of sprouting, rooting and survival; the number of sprouts; and the number and length of roots were evaluated. The second trial, minicuttings from ministumps of asexual and seminal origin were treated or not with 2000 mg L-1 of IBA. The same evaluations were done at 30 and 60 days. The concentration of the nutrient solution did not affect the production of minicuttings per ministumps. The concentrations of NAA and IBA did not affect minicutting rooting. Overall, ministumps from asexual origin showed adequate capability for vegetative propagation of louro-pardo. These ministumps have the highest production of minicutting associated with the highest rooting potential without any treatment.
