Dynamic Dead Variable Analysis

Lewis, Micah S. 18 August 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Dynamic dead variable analysis (DDVA) extends traditional static dead variable analysis (SDVA) in the context of model checking through the use of run-time information. The analysis is run multiple times during the course of model checking to create a more precise set of dead variables. The DDVA is evaluated based on the amount of memory used to complete model checking relative to SDVA while considering the extra overhead required to implement DDVA. On several models with a complex control flow graph, DDVA reduces the amount of memory needed by 38-88MB compared to SDVA with a cost of 36 bytes of memory verhead. On several models with loops, DDVA achieved no additional reduction compared to SDVA while requiring no more memory than SDVA.

Interrupting the Cycle: Idealization, Alienation and Social Performance in James Joyce's "Araby," "A Painful Case," and "The Dead."

Muhlestein, Nicholas 24 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The thesis considers Joyce's short stories "Araby," "A Painful Case," and the "The Dead," illustrating how these works present three intellectually and emotionally similar protagonists, but at different stages of life, with the final tale "The Dead" suggesting a sort of limited solution to the conflicts that define the earlier works. Taken together, "Araby" and "A Painful Case," represent a sort of life cycle of alienation: the boy of "Araby" is an isolated, deeply introspective youth who lives primarily within his own idealized mental world before discovering, through a failed romantic quest at the story's end, the complete impracticality of his own highly abstracted desires. In contrast, Duffy of "A Painful Case" is an extremely rigid, middle-aged bachelor who lives in a self-imposed exile from Irish society in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to escape the sort of mental and emotional pain that affects the boy, with his final epiphany being that such ideals still exist within him, but he now no longer has any hope of changing his life or taking part in society. The stories suggest that such idealized desires can neither be ignored nor fulfilled, and it is not until the chronologically final story "The Dead" that Joyce suggests any sort of limited solution to the dilemma. Gabriel of "The Dead" again displays the introversion, emotional fragility and extreme idealism of the earlier protagonists, but he, as a young, adult man, presents a break in the cycle and an alternate path. In contrast to the earlier protagonists, Gabriel refuses to exist within his own mental world alone, and instead takes part in and attempts to accommodate the desires of both society as a whole, and of specific individuals close to him, such as his aunts and his wife Gretta. Though Gabriel's attempts are not an unmitigated success, he earns a degree of satisfaction for his efforts, with his final revelation being of his connection to the rest of humanity, in contrast to the self-absorbed and hopeless reflections of the earlier protagonists.

REALISMENS NOGGRANNHET : Hur trovärdig är hästarnas gestaltning i Red Dead Redemption II? / THE ACCURACY OF REALISM : How believable is the embodiment of horses in Red Dead Redemption II?

Wärn, Paulina January 2023 (has links)

Manne, Gabriel, Bergström, Henrik January 2020 (has links)
For hundred of years, cities have been formed around places of trade but in a more digital world, consumer behavior is changing. Today, people are shopping online which has led to a decline in physical retail and according to recent studies this is a trend that will continue. For a long time the media has discussed the “death of stores” but recently the debate has shifted to “the death of malls” as a result of online shopping growing more popular. This report is based on the premise of a continued decline in physical retail and the aim is to evaluate and analyse the future of the shopping mall. The report is limited to the future of swedish malls and will only evaluate what can be done on the property of the mall or by the property owner, store owner or other people with an interest in the mall. The report is based on interviews with people from the real estate business, retail business and from organizations connected to malls or retail. To analyze the result of the interviews previous research and theory of urban planning and retail has been used. The result of the study is complex but is shows that shopping malls will undergo a structural change. It shows that some shopping malls will evolve but it also shows that the ones that doesn’t will face bankruptcy and then be demolished. This will happen since malls are highly specialised and monofunctional buildings which makes it uneconomical to use them for other purposes than consumption. To make malls competitive against internet shopping, they have to become more flexible, emotional, local and better adapted to the city surrounding them.

Indoor localization of hand-held Shopping Scanners / Inomhuslokalisering med handhållen terminal för detaljhandeln

Persson, Lucas, Markström, Sebastian January 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates applicable indoor navigation systems for the next generation of hand-held shopping scanners, on behalf of the company Virtual Stores. The thesis research and review applicable indoor localization methods and ways to combine and evaluate received localization data in order to provide accurate navigation without introducing any other worn equipment for a potential user. Prototype navigation systems was proposed, developed and evaluated using a combination of carefully placed radio transmitters that was used to provide radio based localization methods using Bluetooth or UltraWide Band (UWB) and inertial sensors combined with a particle filter. The Bluetooth solution was deemed incapable of providing any accurate localization method while the prototype using a combination of UWB and inertial sensors proved promising solution with below 1m average error under optimal conditions or 2.0m average localization error in a more realistic environment. However, the system requires the surveyed area to provide 3 or more UWB transmitters in the line of sight of the UWB receiver of the user at every location facing any direction to provide accurate localization. The prototype also requires to be scaled up to provide localization to more than 1 radio transmitters at the time before being introduced to the Fast moving consumer goods market.

Disease Management Strategies For Controlling Spring Dead Spot And Frequency Of Occurrence Of The Causal Organism Ophiosphaerella Korrae On 'Tifway' Bermudagrass (Cynodon Dactylon X C. Transvaalensis)

Perry, Hunter D 15 December 2007 (has links)
Spring dead spot (SDS) is the most destructive disease of bermudagrass and its hybrids, affecting intensively managed bermudagrass turf that is at least three years old. This bermudagrass disease is most prevalent in the United States where winter temperatures become cold enough to induce dormancy. The symptoms of SDS appear as sunken, necrotic patches of turf ranging from several centimeters to greater than 0.5 m in diameter. Field studies were conducted at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS on a Tifway bermudagrass fairway beginning January of 2005 and concluding December of 2006 to determine the frequency and the effects of soil temperature on occurrence of O. korrae in bermudagrass. Characterization of O. korrae isolates was conducted based on optimal in vitro growth temperatures and greenhouse pathogenicity studies. Cultural, nutritional, and chemical management practices were evaluated on the bermudagrass fairway for the reduction of SDS severity, promotion of improved turf color, quality, root health, and reduction of the thatch/mat layer. Treatments included core aerification with and without topdressing, vertical mowing, manganese, elemental sulfur, and myclobutanil fungicide applications. Each year was divided into seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall) based on the bermudagrass growth cycle in Mississippi. The frequency of O. korrae occurrence ranged from 14% in 2005 to 16% in 2006, and was similar for all treatments. Ophiosphaerella korrae occurrence was greatest in the winter and spring compared to the summer and fall. There was no direct association between mean soil temperature and frequency of O. korrae occurrence. Spring dead spot severity ratings were similar in 2005 and 2006. Vertical mowing had a significant effect on fall turf color in 2005 and fall turf color and quality in 2006. The aggressive cultural practices (i.e. vertical mowing, aerification) were the most consistent treatments for significantly reducing the thatch/mat layer and improving root health.
