Non-iterative joint decoding and signal processing: universal coding approach for channels with memory

A non-iterative receiver is proposed to achieve near capacity performance on intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. There are two main ingredients in the proposed design. i) The use of a novel BCJR-DFE equalizer which produces optimal soft estimates of the inputs to the ISI channel given all the observations from the channel and L past symbols exactly, where L is the memory of the ISI channel. ii) The use of an encoder structure that ensures that L past symbols can be used in the DFE in an error free manner through the use of a capacity achieving code for a memoryless channel. Computational complexity of the proposed receiver structure is less than that of one iteration of the turbo receiver. We also provide the proof showing that the proposed receiver achieves the i.i.d. capacity of any constrained input ISI channel. This DFE-based receiver has several advantages over an iterative (turbo) receiver, such as low complexity, the fact that codes that are optimized for memoryless channels can be used with channels with memory, and finally that the channel does not need to be known at the transmitter. The proposed coding scheme is universal in the sense that a single code of rate r; optimized for a memoryless channel, provides small error probability uniformly across all AWGN-ISI channels of i.i.d. capacity less than r: This general principle of a proposed non-iterative receiver also applies to other signal processing functions, such as timing recovery, pattern-dependent noise whiten ing, joint demodulation and decoding etc. This makes the proposed encoder and receiver structure a viable alternative to iterative signal processing. The results show significant complexity reduction and performance gain for the case of timing recovery and patter-dependent noise whitening for magnetic recording channels.

Implementation Of Stanag 4285 Hf Modem Software On Tms320c54x Digital Signal Processor

In this research, STANAG 4285 HF modem software is implemented on TMS320C54x fixed point digital signal processor. The software is optimized in order to meet real-time operation requirements. A fractionally spaced least mean square (LMS) decision feedback equalizer (DFE) is employed for the receiver. In order to improve the convergence of the LMS algorithm a multipass technique is utilized. Based on Watterson&rsquo / s model, an HF channel simulator is employed for evaluating the performance of the modem. The simulation results show that the convergence of the LMS algorithm is improved by using multipass technique. It is also shown that the software meets the real-time operation requirements.

An Interactive Support For Developing Environmentally Friendly Product Lifecycles

Products make substantial impact on environment. Design for Environment (DfE) is an approach to design where all the environmental impacts of a product are considered over entire products life. Since over 80% of the product costs are committed during the early stages, design can play a central role in reducing this environmental overloading by product. However, unlike cost and performance, use of environmental criteria and DfE is far from part of mainstream designing. Individual guidelines often exist for DfE but these are not integrated with design tools. There is a need for capture of the rationale in design process as a know how backup for later use. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is currently the most promising and scientifically proven technique for estimating environmental impacts of a product during its lifecycle. Current LCA tools are not well integrated with design process and CAD tools. Consequently, there is a need for an LCA tool integrated into the natural design process that can be applied to early as well as detailed design stages. Detailed LCA is critically dependent on high volumes of product specific data, time consuming, often unaffordable and used after the detailed stages of design. Current approximate LCA methods are either incomplete, inaccurate or require prior knowledge of what data is important There is substantial uncertainty involved in the environmental impact calculations in LC. While Literature discusses uncertainty of impact data, there is no discussion on how to calculate and represent the total uncertainty in the potential impact of a product proposal at any given stage in design with respect to LCA. There is a need for a method that can aid in decision making by supporting quantitative comparison of available alternatives to identify the best alternative, under uncertain information about alternatives. Often the likely performance, cost or environmental impacts of a product proposal could be estimated only with certain confidence, which may vary from one proposal to another. The overall objective of this thesis is to “Develop a support to the designers using which they can develop environmentally friendly product lifecycles in much the same way as they currently design products, at all stages of their design, while reusing information from their past design activities”. For this the specific objectives are to: 1.Understand how designers currently design products and what they need for developing environmentally friendly product design. 2.Develop a holistic framework for both generation and evaluation of environmentally friendly life cycle proposals. 3. Capture rationale as part of the design process. 4. Estimate uncertainty in the environmental impact assessment during design. 5. Evaluate product lifecycle proposals with multiple criteria under uncertainty. 6. Integrate design process with environmental impact assessment. 7. Apply environmental impact assessment through the design process. From the descriptive studies we found that there is substantial difference in the environmental impact among products having the same functionality generated during the same design process. Analysis of industrial products available in the market show similar results. This means that design can substantially affect the impact created by a product. In our studies, designers did not consider environmental impact as a criterion in evaluation and we also identified the typical activities performed by designers during An Interactive Support for Developing Environmentally Friendly Product Lifecycles designing that must be allowed, supported or taken into account while developing a support for environmentally friendly product lifecycle design (EFPLD). The requirements of the designer for support are: tools should be proactive, easy to learn, understand and use, allow understanding of design rationale, act as a checklist, reduce total time, store knowledge and experience as know‐how backup, useful in all stages of design, not require too much extra effort for analysis, integrated to CAD, aid in trade off between choices, show uncertainty analysis, aid in analysis & improvement, and consider all lifecycle phases. A holistic framework, ACLODS (is a acronym of the six dimensions) constituting the following six dimensions: a) Activities, b) Criteria, c) Lifecycle phases, d) Outcomes, e) Design stages, and f) Product Structure was proposed for development of environmentally friendly product lifecycle designs. Through descriptive studies we found mainly 4 categories and associated sub categories of uncertainty in information with respect to LCA in design. The four categories are uncertainty in product structure, lifecycle phases, data quality, and methodological choices. The sub categories are assemblies, sub- assemblies, parts, relations, and features in product structure, material, production, distribution, usage, and after‐usage in lifecycle phases, temporal relevance, spatial relevance and sample size in data quality, and temporal relevance, spatial relevance, and comprehensiveness in methodological choices. At any point of time, uncertainty in information available is an accrual of the combination of the individual uncertainties. A method called confidence weighted objectives method is developed to compare the whole lifecycle of product proposals using multiple evaluation criteria under various levels of uncertainty. It is compared with normal weighted objectives method and found to be better since it estimates the overall worth of proposal nd confidence on the estimate, enabling deferment of decision making when decisions cannot be made using current information available. A new integrated platform IDEA‐SUSTAIN is developed in this thesis for supporting synthesis in product development on a commercial CAD workspace, while also aiding automated capture and storage of the rationale behind the decisions for retrieval whenever required during design. It is extended to support life cycle assessment of product proposals created by automatically extracting the information already stored while designing and ask for other information required to model the lifecycle without much extra effort from the designer. Then it uses the method for uncertainty reasoning developed also as a part of this research to estimate the level of confidence on the impact value owing to the incompleteness in knowledge available. The estimation is possible at part, assembly or product levels, for a single lifecycle phase or multiple phases. Using in‐house design exercises and feedback questionnaire evaluation of support is done. The usage of Idea‐Sustain has been found to be the best for both generation and evaluation of product proposals. The two computer aided tools – software (LCA) and Idea-Sustain-are compared with each other for fulfilling the functional requirements by analysing the feedbacks given by the designers on these tools against these requirements. Idea‐Sustain fulfilled well most of the requirements while the software (LCA) fulfilled only some of the needs, that too less effectively.

Padrões alimentares, nutrientes do metabolismo do folato e homocisteína e três desfechos em saúde / Dietary patterns, nutrients involved in one-carbon metabolism and three health outcomes

Introdução - Os hábitos alimentares e os nutrientes da via metabólica do folato e homocisteína possuem grande importância na manutenção da saúde. Objetivo - Investigar a relação entre padrões alimentares (PAs) e os nutrientes envolvidos nessa via metabólica, com medidas antropométricas do recém-nascido, duração da infecção por HPV em homens e concentrações de homocisteína (Hcy) em adultos. Métodos - Foram utilizados dados dos estudos de coorte ProcriAr (Influência dos fatores nutricionais e poluentes atmosféricos urbanos na saúde pulmonar de crianças: um estudo de coorte com gestantes da zona oeste do município de São Paulo, n=299); e HIM (História natural da infecção por HPV em homens, n=1.194); e do estudo transversal ISA-Capital 2008 (Inquérito de saúde do estado de São Paulo, n=281). Os padrões alimentares foram derivados por análise fatorial por componentes principais nos estudos ProcriAr e ISA-Capital 2008 e utilizando reduced rank regression (RRR) no estudo HIM. Modelos multivariados de regressão de Poisson e lineares foram utilizados nos estudos ProcriAr e HIM para identificar a relação entre PAs e medidas antropométricas do recém-nascido e duração da infecção por HPV em homens, respectivamente. Utilizando modelo de equação estrutural, investigou-se a relação entre PAs, concentrações bioquímicas de folato, vitamina B12 e ácido docosahexaenoico (DHA) e concentrações de homocisteína em adultos do estudo ISA-Capital, considerando polimorfismo da enzima metilenotetrahidrofolato redutase (MTHFR 677C>T). Os três estudos utilizaram questionário de frequência alimentar para avaliação do consumo alimentar. Resultados - No estudo ProcriAr, a maior adesão materna ao PA \"Snacks, sanduíches, doces e refrigerantes\", rico em energia, gordura, e folato sintético, esteve diretamente associada a ter um filho pequeno ao nascer (peso e/ou comprimento ao nascer, ajustado pela idade gestacional, abaixo do percentil 10 - INTERGOWTH-21st) (RR: 2,01; IC 95%: 1.13-3.57). No estudo HIM, homens com maior adesão ao \"PA3\" tiveram, em média, um aumento de 1,15 (IC95% 0,09-2,21) à 1,18 (IC95% 0,11-2,24) meses na duração da infecção por HPV. O \"PA3\" esteve positivamente correlacionado com vitamina B6 (r = 0,59), vitamina B12 (0,27) e DFE (0,07) e negativamente correlacionado com DHA (-0,37). No estudo ISA-Capital o PA \"Prudente\" esteve inversamente associado à concentração de Hcy (β = -0,12). O DHA esteve diretamente associado ao PA \"Prudente\"; composto por verduras e legumes, peixe, frutas, frango, suco natural e batata/mandioca/polenta (cozida ou assada). Conclusões - Os PAs estão associados às medidas antropométricas do recém-nascido, à duração da infecção por HPV em homens e às concentrações de homocisteína em adultos. Estes resultados reforçam a importância de estudos sobre alimentação e nutrição que considerem não somente nutrientes, mas principalmente o consumo de alimentos e suas combinações, servindo como base para a elaboração de estratégias e políticas públicas de promoção à saúde. / Introduction - The dietary habits and nutrients involved in one-carbon metabolism are of great importance in health. Objective - To investigate the relationship between dietary patterns (DP) and the nutrients involved in this metabolism, with newborn\'s anthropometric measurements, duration of HPV infection in men, and homocysteine (Hcy) levels in adults. Methods - Data from the cohort studies ProcriAr (Influence of nutritional factors and urban air pollutants on the pulmonary health of children: a cohort study with pregnant women from the western region of the city of São Paulo, n=299); and HIM (Natural history of HPV infection in men, n=1,194); and the cross-sectional study ISA-Capital 2008 (São Paulo State Health Survey, n=281) were used. The DP were estimated using factor analysis with principal component\'s estimation in ProcriAr and ISA-Capital 2008 studies and using reduced rank regression (RRR) in HIM study. Multivariate Poisson and linear regression models were used in the ProcriAr and HIM studies to identify the relationship between DP and newborn\'s anthropometric measurements and duration of HPV infection in men, respectively. Using a structural equation model, the relationship between DP, biochemical levels of folate, vitamin B12 and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and homocysteine levels was investigated in adults from the ISA-Capital 2008 study, considering the polymorphism of the enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR 677C>T). The three studies used a food frequency questionnaire to evaluate dietary intake. Results - In the ProcriAr study, the higher maternal adherence to the \"Snacks, sandwiches, sweets and soft drinks\" DP, which is a DP rich in energy, fat, and synthetic folate, was directly associated with having a child small at birth (weight and/or birth length by gestational age and sex below the 10th percentile - INTERGOWTH-21st) (RR: 2.01, 95% CI: 1.13-3.57). In the HIM study, men with higher adherence to \"DP3\" had, on average, an increase from 1.15 (95% CI 0.09-2.21) to 1.18 (95% CI 0.11-2.24) months in the duration of HPV infection. \"DP3\" was positively correlated with vitamin B6 (r = 0.59), vitamin B12 (0.27) and DFE (0.07) and negatively correlated with DHA (-0.37). In the ISA-Capital study, the \"Prudent\" DP was inversely associated with Hcy levels (β = -0.12). DHA was directly associated with \"Prudent\" DP; composed of vegetables, fish, fruits, chicken, natural juice and potato/cassava/polenta (cooked or roasted). Conclusions - Dietary patterns are associated with newborn\'s anthropometric measurements, duration of HPV infection in men, and Hcy levels in adults. These results reinforce the importance of studies on food and nutrition that consider not only nutrients, but mainly the consumption of foods and their combinations, serving as a basis for the elaboration of public health promotion strategies and policies.

The effects of humanity's actions on the environment have been a viral topic for many years. The efficiency of refining raw materials is crucial in reducing these effects. This thesis was thereby tasked with improving the assembly efficiency of Rottne Industri AB:s harvester cabin. Various theories were utilized to improve the design, with Design for Excellence being the most notable. By implementing a seven-step product development process, concepts could be generated and later scored based on the customer's comments and discovered issues. The authors selected the idea with the highest score and developed it until they achieved a concept meeting the product's objectives. The concept was then validated by performing simulations and calculations related to its assembly efficiency, environmental impact, and cost. The redesign resulted in an idea possessing a design efficiency 135% higher than the original, a 72% shorter assembly time, 13% less weight, a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and a 41% reduction in assembly and material costs.

Integration of Environmental Aspects in Product Development Process and Ship Design : a LEAP towards environmental awareness at Kockums AB

The Swedish company Kockums AB, at the forefront within maritime and naval technology, is in need of a tool, document, and/or method to include environmental aspects in their product development process. This is mainly because of additional requirements put on Kockums AB from their main customer. Ship recycling is the major issue that has to be addressed and included in Kockums AB’sworking procedures. Moreover, ship recycling is a pressing issue to handle due to horrible conditions in South Asian countries, where most ship dismantling is taking place. For these reasons, the objective of this M.Sc. thesis was to integrate environmental aspects in the product development process at Kockums AB by designing and proposing a way of implementing a tool, document, and/or method. Environmental product requirements that Kockums AB is demanded to fulfill mainly derives from customers, classification societies, laws and legislations, and themselves. The Hong Kong Convention has been adapted, in 2009, but is yet to enter into force. Ship recycling is covered by the convention,and an ‘Inventory of Hazardous Materials’ has to be provided from the ship builder, and hence this is the main aspect for Kockums AB to consider. Naval ships are, however, excluded from the Hong Kong Convention. Kockums AB does not have a routine on how to handle environmental requirements nor are environmental aspects included in their product development process. Consequently, Kockums AB’senvironmental ambition should not be put too high and rather aim at follow laws. In an empiricalstudy, regarding environmental aspects at Kockums AB, difficulties were identified. Lack of environmental knowledge, communication problems, and misunderstandings regarding the ambiguous term environment showed to be most notable. The three most prominent success factors for asuccessful integration of ecodesign, from the conducted literature review and empirical findings, are education for employees, existence of an environmental champion, and top management support. A Long-term Environmental Action Plan (LEAP), which took the success factors into account and contains 18 Actions, was developed for Kockums AB, and is the ultimate result of this research. The LEAP was developed in accordance with ISO 14006, a new standard for incorporation of ecodesign in Environmental Management Systems, with the aim of reducing adverse environmental impactsthroughout a product’s lifecycle. Moreover, the proposed way of implementing the LEAP was based on a ”Plan, Do, Check, Act” methodology from Product-Oriented Environmental Management Systems (POEMS). POEMS focus on a product’s environmental efficiency throughout its lifecycle, by a systematic integration of ecodesign in the company’s strategies and practices, and hence continual improvements. This way of implementation should be familiar to Kockums AB because the company is certified according to ISO 14001, where continual improvement of environmental performance is a key factor. The proposed LEAP includes tools, documents, and methods that are to be used in daily work and product development at Kockums AB. It is a step towards environmentally conscious design and enhanced environmental knowledge at Kockums AB. Additionally, as a result of the LEAP, the expectation is that environmental conscious mindsets of employees arise.

Efficient tranceiver techniques for interference and fading mitigation in wireless communication systems / Νέες αποδοτικές τεχνικές εκπομπής και λήψης για μείωση παρεμβολών σε ασύρματα δίκτυα επικοινωνίας

Wireless communication systems require advanced techniques at the transmitter and at the receiver that improve the performance in hostile radio environments. The received signal is significantly distorted due to the dynamic nature of the wireless channel caused by multipath fading and Doppler spread. In order to mitigate the negative impact of the channel to the received signal quality, techniques as equalization and diversity are usually employed in the system design. During the transmission, the phenomenon of inter-symbol interference (ISI) occurs at the receiver due to the time dispersion of the involved channels. Hence, several delayed replicas of previous symbols interfere with the current symbol. Equalization is usually employed in order to combat the effect of the ISI. Several implementations for equalization filters have been proposed, including linear and non-linear processing, providing complexity-performance trade-offs. It is known that the length of the equalization filter determines the complexity of the technique. Since the wireless channels are characterized by long and sparse impulse responses, the conventional equalizers require high computational complexity due to the large size of their filters. In this dissertation, we have further investigated the long standing problem of equalization in light of the recently derived theory of compressed sampling (CS) for sparse and redundant representations. The developed heuristic algorithms for equalization, can exploit either the sparsity of the channel impulse response (CIR), or the sparsity of the equalizer filters, in order to derive efficient implementation designs. To this end, building on basis pursuit and matching pursuit techniques new equalization schemes have been proposed that exhibit considerable computational savings, increased performance properties and short training sequence requirements. Our main contribution for this part is the Stochastic Gradient Pursuit algorithm for sparse adaptive equalization. An alternative approach to combat ISI is based on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. In this system, the entire channel is divided into many narrow subchannels, so as the transmitted signals to be orthogonal to each other, despite their spectral overlap. However, in the case of doubly selective channels, the Doppler effect destroys the orthogonality between subcarriers. Thus, similarly to ISI, the effect of intercarrier interference (ICI) is introduced at the receiver, where symbols which belong to other subcarriers interfere with the current one. Considering this problem, we have developed iterative algorithms which recursively cancels the ICI at the receiver, providing performance-complexity trade-offs. For low or medium Doppler spreads, the typical approach is to approximate the frequency-domain channel matrix with a banded one. On this premise, we derived reduced-rank preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) algorithms in order to estimate the equalization matrix with a reduced number of iterations. Also developed an improved PCG algorithm with the same complexity order, using the Galerkin projections theory. However, in rapidly changing environments, a severe ICI is introduced and the banded approximation results in significant performance degradation. In order to recover this performance loss, we developed regularized estimation framework for ICI equalization, with linear complexity with respect the the number of the subcarriers. Moreover, we proposed a new equalization technique which has the potential to completely cancel the ICI. This approach works in a successive manner through a number of stages, conveying from the fully-connected ordered successive interference cancellation architecture (OSIC) in order to fully suppress the residual interference at each stage of the equalizer. On the other hand, diversity can improve the performance of the communication system by sending the information symbols through multiple signal paths, each of which fades independently. One approach to obtain diversity is through cooperative transmission, considering a group of nearby terminals (relays) as forming one virtual antenna array and applying a spatial beamforming technique so as to optimize the communication via them. Such beamforming techniques differ from their classical counterparts where the array elements are located in a common processing unit, due to the distribution of the relays in the space. In this setting, we developed new distributed algorithms which enable the relay cooperation for the computation of the beamforming weights leveraging the computational abilities of the relays. Each relay can estimate only the corresponding entry of the principal eigenvector, combining data from its network neighbours. The proposed algorithms are applied to two distributed beamforming schemes for relay networks. In the first scheme, the beamforming vector is computed through minimization of a total transmit power subject to the receiver quality-of-service (QoS) constraint. In the second scheme, the beamforming weights are obtained through maximization of the receiver SNR subject to a total transmit power constraint. Moreover, the proposed algorithms operate blindly, implying that no training data are required to be transmitted to the relays, and adaptively, exhibiting a quite short convergence period. / Τα συστήματα ασύρματων επικοινωνιών απαιτούν εξειδικευμένες τεχνικές στον πομπό και στον δέκτη, οι οποίες να βελτιώνουν την απόδοση του συστήματος σε εχθρικά περιβάλλοντα ασύρματης μετάδοσης. Λόγω της δυναμικής φύσης του ασύρματου καναλιού, που περιγράφεται από τα φαινόμενα της απόσβεσης, της πολυδιόδευσης και του Doppler, το λαμβανόμενο σήμα είναι παραμορφωμένο σε σημαντικό βαθμό. Για να αναιρέσουμε αυτήν την αρνητική επίδραση του καναλιού στην ποιότητα του λαμβανόμενου σήματος, κατά τον σχεδιασμό του συστήματος συνήθως υιοθετούνται τεχνικές όπως η ισοστάθμιση και η ποικιλομορφία. Στα πλαίσια αυτής της διατριβής, αναπτύχθηκαν νέοι ευριστικοί αλγόριθμοι για το πρόβλημα της ισοστάθμισης, οι οποίοι εκμεταλλεύονται είτε την αραιότητα της κρουστικής απόκρισης είναι την αραιότητα του αντιστρόφου φίλτρου, προκειμένου να παραχθούν αποδοτικές υλοποιήσεις. Θεωρώντας τον μη γραμμικό ισοσταθμιστή ανατροφοδότησης-απόφασης, έχει δειχθεί ότι κάτω από συνήθεις υποθέσεις για τους συντελεστές της κρουστικής απόκρισης του καναλιού, το εμπρόσθιο φίλτρο και το φίλτρο ανατροφοδότησης μπορούν να αναπαρασταθούν από αραιά διανύσματα. Για τον σκοπό αυτό, τεχνικές Συμπιεσμένης Καταγραφής, οι οποίες έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί κατα κόρον σε προβλήματα ταυτοποίησης συστήματος, μπορούν να βελτιώσουν σε μεγάλο βαθμό την απόδοση κλασσικών ισοσταθμιστών που δεν λαμβάνουν υπόψιν τους την αραιότητα των διανυσμάτων. Έχοντας ως βάση τις τεχνικές basis pursuit και matching pursuit, αναπτύχθηκαν νέα σχήματα ισοσταθμιστών τα οποία παρουσιάζουν αξιοσημείωτη μείωση στο υπολογιστικό κόστος. Επίσης, αντίθετα με τη συνήθη πρακτική ταυτοποίησης συστήματος, αναπτύχθηκε νέος ευριστικό αλγόριθμος για το πρόβλημα αραιής προσαρμοστικής ισοστάθμισης, με την ονομασία Stochastic Gradient Pursuit. Επιπλέον, ο αλγόριθμος αυτός επεκτάθηκε και για την περίπτωση όπου ο αριθμός των μη μηδενικών στοιχείων του ισοσταθμιστή είναι άγνωστος. Μία διαφορετική προσέγγιση για την αντιμετώπιση του φαινομένου της διασυμβολικής παρεμβολής είναι μέσω του συστήματος orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), όπου το συνολικό κανάλι χωρίζεται σε πολλά στενά υπο-κανάλια, με τέτοιον τρόπο ώστε τα μεταδιδόμενα σήματα να είναι ορθογώνια μεταξύ τους, παρότι παρουσιάζουν φασματική επικάλυψη. Ωστόσο, σε χρονικά και συχνοτικά επιλεκτικά κανάλια, το φαινόμενο Doppler καταστρέφει την ορθογωνιότητα των υπο-καναλιών. Σε αυτήν την περίπτωση, παρόμοια με το φαινόμενο της διασυμβολικής παρεμβολής, εμφανίζεται το φαινόμενο της διακαναλικής παρεμβολής, όπου τα σύμβολα που ανήκουν σε διαφορετικά υπο-κανάλια παρεμβάλουν στο τρέχον. Θεωρώντας αυτό το πρόβλημα, αναπτύχθηκαν νέα σχήματα ισοστάθμισης που ακυρώνουν διαδοχικά την παρεμβολή αυτή, παρέχοντας έναν συμβιβασμό μεταξύ της απόδοσης και της πολυπλοκότητας. Στις περιπτώσεις όπου το φαινόμενο Doppler δεν είναι τόσο ισχυρό, η συνήθης τακτική είναι η προσέγγιση του πίνακα του καναλιού με έναν πίνακα ζώνης. Με αυτό το σκεπτικό, αναπτύχθηκαν αλγόριθμοι μειωμένης τάξης που βασίζονται στην επαναληπτική μέθοδο preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG), προκειμένου να εκτιμήσουμε τον πίνακα ισοστάθμισης με έναν μειωμένο αριθμό επαναλήψεων. Επίσης, αναπτύχθηκαν τεχνικές που βασίζονται σε προβολές Galerkin για την βελτίωση της απόδοσης των συστημάτων χωρίς να αυξάνουν σημαντικά την πολυπλοκότητα. Ωστόσο, για τις περιπτώσεις όπου το φαινόμενο Doppler έχει ισχυρή επίδραση στο δέκτη του τηλεπικοινωνιακού συστήματος, όπως στις περιπτώσεις πολύ δυναμικών καναλιών, τότε η προσέγγιση με τον πίνακα ζώνης μειώνει σημαντικά την απόδοση του συστήματος. Με στόχο να ανακτήσουμε την απώλεια αυτή, αναπτύχθηκαν τεχνικές κανονικοποιημένης εκτίμησης, με γραμμική πολυπλοκότητα σε σχέση με τον αριθμό των υπο-καναλιών. Επιπρόσθετα, αναπτύχθηκε ένα νέο σχήμα ισοστάθμισης που έχει την δυνατότητα να ακυρώσει πλήρως την διακαναλική παρεμβολή. Το συγκεκριμένο σχήμα λειτουργεί βασιζόμενο σε έναν αριθμό διαδοχικών σταδίων, ακολουθώντας την φιλοσοφία της αρχιτεκτονικής fully-connected ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC), με στόχο να μειώσει την εναπομείναντα παρεμβολή σε κάθε στάδιο του ισοσταθμιστή Η απόδοση ενός τηλεπικοινωνιακού συστήματος μπορεί επίσης να βελτιωθεί με την χρήση τεχνικών ποικιλομορφίας, δηλαδή με την μετάδοση των συμβόλων μέσω πολλών ανεξάρτητων μονοπατιών. Μία τεχνική ποικιλομορφίας είναι η συνεργατική μετάδοση, όπου μία ομάδα κοντινών τερματικών (relays) σχηματίζουν μία εικονική συστοιχία κεραιών και τεχνικές διαμόρφωσης λοβού μετάδοσης χρησιμοποιούνται προκειμένου να βελτιστοποιηθεί η επικοινωνία μέσω των τερματικών. Οι συγκεκριμένες τεχνικές διαμόρφωσης λοβού μετάδοσης, διαφέρουν από τις κλασσικές όπου η συστοιχία κεραιών βρίσκεται τοποθετημένη σε έναν κόμβο, καθώς τα τερματικά κατανέμονται στον χώρο. Υπό αυτές τις συνθήκες, αναπτύχθηκαν κατανεμημένοι αλγόριθμοι οι οποίοι εκμεταλλεύονται την επικοινωνία και τις υπολογιστικές δυνατότητες των τερματικών για τον υπολογισμό των συνιστωσών του διανύσματος διαμόρφωσης λοβού μετάδοσης. Κάθε τερματικό εκτιμά μόνο την αντίστοιχη συνιστώσα από το κύριο ιδιοδιάνυσμα, συνδιάζοντας δεδομένα από τα γειτονικά τερματικά. Οι προτεινόμενοι αλγόριθμοι εφαρμόστηκαν σε δύο σχήματα κατανεμημένης μετάδοσης μέσω ενδιάμεσων κόμβων. Στο πρώτο σχήμα, τα βάρη του διανύσματος διαμόρφωσης λοβού μετάδοσης υπολογίστηκαν με βάση την ελαχιστοποίηση της συνολικής ισχύος μετάδοσης υπό τον περιορισμό συγκεκριμένου κατωφλίου για την ποιότητα του λαμβανόμενου σήματος. Στο δεύτερο σχήμα, υπολογίστηκαν μεγιστοποιώντας την ποιότητα του λαμβανόμενου σήματος υπό τον περιορισμό ενός κατωφλίου για την συνολική ισχύ μετάδοσης. Επιπλέον, οι αλγόριθμοι που αναπτύχθηκαν λειτουργούν τυφλά, δηλαδή χωρίς φάση εκπαίδευσης, και προσαρμοστικά με μικρό διάστημα σύγκλισης.

Προσαρμοστικές τεχνικές για δέκτες τύπου V-BLAST σε συστήματα MIMO

Τα ασύρματα συστήματα πολλαπλών κεραιών MIMO αποτελούν ένα από τα βασικά μέτωπα ανάπτυξης των τηλεπικοινωνιών. Ωστόσο η εξαιρετικά τυχαία φύση τους καθώς και η αλληλεπίδραση μεταξύ των πολλαπλών ροών δεδομένων επιβάλει την χρήση σύγχρονων τεχνικών ισοστάθμισης. Η προσαρμοστική ισοστάθμιση στο δέκτη ενός τηλεπικοινωνιακού συστήματος χρησιμοποιείται για την αντιμετώπιση της δυναμικής φύσης του ασύρματου καναλιού και την ανίχνευση των αλλαγών στα χαρακτηριστικά του. Επίσης, μη γραμμικές τεχνικές ισοστάθμισης ανατροφοδότησης συμβόλων είναι απαραίτητες για την απομάκρυνση της διασυμβολικής παρεμβολής που παρουσιάζεται στα συγκεκριμένα συστήματα. Η παρούσα εργασία ασχολείται με μεθόδους προσαρμοστικής ισοστάθμισης στο δέκτη ενός τηλεπικοινωνιακού συστήματος. Διακρίνουμε τις εξής περιπτώσεις προσαρμοστικών αλγορίθμων για την ελαχιστοποίηση του σφάλματος, του αλγορίθμου Αναδρομικών Ελαχίστων Τετραγώνων (RLS), του επαναληπτικού αλγορίθμου Συζυγών Κλίσεων (CG) και του επαναληπτικού αλγορίθμου τροποποιημένων Συζυγών Κλίσεων (MCG). Όπως διαπιστώνουμε, όταν οι παραπάνω αλγόριθμοι χρησιμοποιηθούν με γραμμικές τεχνικές ισοστάθμισης έχουμε πολύ αργή σύγκλιση και γενικά υψηλό όριο σφάλματος. Συμπεραίνουμε λοιπόν ότι, προκειμένου να έχουμε γρήγορη σύγκλιση των προσαρμοστικών αλγορίθμων και αντιμετώπιση της διασυμβολικής παρεμβολής για τα συστήματα MIMO, είναι απαραίτητη η χρήση μη γραμμικών τεχνικών ισοστάθμισης. Αρχικά χρησιμοποιούμε την μέθοδο της γενικευμένης ανατροφοδότησης συμβόλων GDFE ενώ στη συνέχεια μελετάμε μία σύγχρονη τεχνική ανατροφοδότησης συμβόλων που χρησιμοποιεί ένα κριτήριο διάταξης για την ακύρωση των συμβόλων (OSIC ή V-BLAST). Όπως διαπιστώνεται και από τις εξομοιώσεις η συγκεκριμένη τεχνική επιτυγχάνει το χαμηλότερο όριο σφάλματος, αλλά με αυξημένο υπολογιστικό κόστος. Επίσης, διαπιστώνουμε ότι η εφαρμογή της τεχνικής αυτής με χρήση του τροποποιημένου αλγορίθμου Συζυγών Κλίσεων δεν είναι εφικτή. Στα πλαίσια αυτής της εργασίας, περιγράφουμε μια συγκεκριμένη υλοποίηση της τεχνικής διατεταγμένης ακύρωσης που κάνει χρήση του αλγορίθμου Αναδρομικών Ελαχίστων Τετραγώνων με μειωμένη πολυπλοκότητα. Στη συνέχεια γενικεύουμε την εφαρμογή της για την περίπτωση των αλγορίθμων Συζυγών Κλίσεων, και διαπιστώνουμε ότι ο τροποποιημένος αλγόριθμος Συζυγών Κλίσεων δεν μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί ούτε σε αυτήν την περίπτωση. Για την υλοποίηση ενός συστήματος OSIC με χρήση του αλγορίθμου Συζυγών Κλίσεων είναι απαραίτητη η χρήση ενός αλγορίθμου που δεν έχει χρονική εξάρτηση σύγκλισης, όπως είναι ο βασικός αλγόριθμος Συζυγών Κλίσεων. / Wireless systems with multiple antenna configurations has recently emerged as one of the most significant technical breaktroughs in modern communications. However, because of the extremly random nature of the wireless channels, we have to use modern equalization methods in order to defeat the signal degradation. Adaptive equalization at the receiver of the telecommunication system can be used to compete this dynamic nature of the wireless channel and track the changes of its characteristics. Furthermore, nonlinear decision feedback methods are nessesary for the cancellation of the intersymbol interference which occurs with these systems. This work involves with adaptive equalization methods at the receiver of the telecommunication system. We use the following adaptive algorithms so as to minimize the error : the Recursive Least Squares algorithm (RLS), the iterative Conjugate Gradient algorithm (CG) and the iterative Modified Conjugate Gradient algorithm (MCG). When these algorithms are used with linear methods, they give very slow converge and high final error. So, it is neccessary to use nonlinear equalization methods in order to succeed fast converge rate and deal with the increazed intersymbol interference for MIMO systems. Firstly we use the generalized decision feedback method (GDFE), and then the modern method of ordered successive cancellation method (OSIC or V-BLAST). Based on the emulations we conclude that the last method succeed the lower error, but with high computational cost. Furthermore, we can't use OSIC method with Modified Conjugate Gradient algorithm. In this work, we describe a specific implementation of the OSIC method which uses RLS algorithm with low computational complexity. So we generalize its usage with the Conjugate Gradient algorithms. Finaly, we conclude that we can't also use MCG with OSIC method with low computational complexity. In order to construct an OSIC system based on Conjugate Gradient algorithm, the algorithm must not operate on time basis, like basic Conjugate Gradient algorithm does.

Kasta loss mot en hållbar framtid : En kvalitativ flerfallsstudie om hållbar produktutveckling i den svenska båtindustrin

Det är inte längre bara ekonomiska faktorer som bidrar till ett företags långsiktiga framgång, utan numera blir också sociala och miljömässiga faktorer allt mer påtagliga. För dagens moderna konsumenter blir hållbarhet ett mer centralt kriterium och allt fler anser att det är viktigt att företag arbetar aktivt med hållbarhetsfrågor. Produkter är en essentiell del i företags arbete med hållbarhet och de förväntas inte bara att skapa produkter som bidrar med nytt värde, utan de förväntas även göra detta på ett hållbart sätt. En övervägande del av produktens nivå av hållbarhet bestäms i produktutvecklingen, då dennes attribut i stort sett är fixerade när den är klar för produktionslinjen. Detta innebär att det är av central vikt att integrera hållbarhet redan i produktutvecklingen.   Denna studie kommer att fokusera på hållbar produktutveckling, där vi kommer ta en bred och okonventionell ansats genom att titta på designbeslut kopplat till produktlivscykeln, tillsammans med interna förutsättningar för utvecklingen av hållbara produkter, samt hållbara innovationer. Detta kommer sedan att appliceras i den svenska båtindustrin, vilket dels är en bransch vi är intresserade av och dels är en bransch där hållbarhet blir alltmer aktuellt. Det teoretiska ramverket är grundpelaren i studien och vår intention är att bidra med större förståelse för hur dessa teorier kan associeras med det som faktiskt sker i branschen idag. Vårt syfte är således att undersöka på vilket sätt och till vilken grad företag inom den svenska båtindustrin implementerar hållbarhet vid utvecklingen av nya båtar. Studien syftar vidare att fylla luckan gällande hållbar produktutveckling i den svenska båtindustrin, då detta är outforskat i dagsläget. Studien syftar även på att ge en mer sammansvetsad bild av hållbar produktutveckling och bidra med ett bredare perspektiv än enbart de individuella ämnesdelarna.    För att uppfylla syftet har vi genomfört en kvalitativ studie, där vi genom sex stycken djupgående semistrukturerade intervjuer med ledare av svenska båtföretag har skapat oss en god inblick i hållbarhetens roll vid utvecklingen av nya båtar. Studien har präglats av ett deduktivt angreppssätt där vi har varit teoridrivna, samt att vi subjektivt har försökt att tolka och förstå informanternas syn och ageranden gällande hållbar produktutveckling i branschen. För att analysera det empiriska materialet har en tematisk analys använts, och det resulterade i att våra tre huvudämnen även bildade de tre huvudtemana.    Utifrån studiens resultat kan vi konstatera att hållbarhet i dagsläget inte har en övervägande roll vid designen och utvecklingen av nya båtar inom den svenska båtindustrin. Vissa delar av produktlivscykeln ser ljusa ut från ett hållbarhetsperspektiv, men det finns mer att göra i framtiden för att cykeln ska vara fullt ut optimerad. Rådande interna förutsättningar finns det också ljusglimtar när det kommer till hållbarhetsaspekter, men även här finns det stor utvecklingspotential för framtiden. Företagens innovationsarbete när det gäller hållbarhet präglas till stor del av försiktighet, vilket förmodligen lämpar sig bäst för marknaden i dagsläget. Marknadskraven på hållbarhet förväntas dock öka i framtiden och i takt med att företagen ser det som en affärsmöjlighet kommer förändringar mycket troligt att ske i deras innovationsarbete.

The layout of communication channel with multiway transmission is described in following part. Next part is about hardware modulator which generate modulated signal which is transmitted via communication channel and after is sampled by A/D convertion card to computer, where is equalizated and demodulated in Simulink. In the last part of this thesis, there is proposal of the laboratory task and its sample solution.
