Digitální programovatelné funkční bloky pracující v kódu zbytkových tříd / Digital Programmable Building Blocks with the Residue Number Representation

Sharoun, Assaid Othman January 2011 (has links)

Objektivní měření a potlačování šumu v hudebním signálu / Objective assessment and reduction of noise in musical signal

Rášo, Ondřej January 2013 (has links)
The dissertation thesis focuses on objective assessment and reduction of disturbing background noise in a musical signal. In this work, a new algorithm for the assessment of background noise audibility is proposed. The listening tests performed show that this new algorithm better predicts the background noise audibility than the existing algorithms do. An advantage of this new algorithm is the fact that it can be used even in the case of a general audio signal and not only musical signal, i.e. in the case when the audibility of one sound on the background of another sound is assessed. The existing algorithms often fail in this case. The next part of the dissertation thesis deals with an adaptive segmentation scheme for the segmentation of long-term musical signals into short segments of different lengths. A new adaptive segmentation scheme is then introduced here. It has been shown that this new adaptive segmentation scheme significantly improves the subjectively perceived quality of the musical signal from the output of noise reduction systems which use this new adaptive segmentation scheme. The quality improvement is better than that achieved by other segmentation schemes tested.

Paris, André 15 December 2016 (has links)
This thesis presents the study and the development of a radar-altimeter characterization tool. The Air-Ground-Air propagation channel is a specific context of the aeronautical channel applied to the radar-altimeters. A new hybrid method designed to the development of a channel simulator is described. This one is based upon ray tracing and bidirectionnal reflectance distribution functions and permits to obtain channel models validated by comparison with on flight measurements. A pre-conditioning method is also explained to make the channel models ready to be used in a real time channel emulator. The hardware and software architecture of this channel emulator is detailed in this book and its behavior is validated with laboratory measurements.

Pulsformdiskrimination und Lichtausbeutemessungen von LAB-basierten Flüssigszintillatoren

Kögler, Toni 28 February 2011 (has links)
Linear alkyl benzene (LAB, C6H5CnH2n+1, n = 10 - 13) is the proposed solvent for the SNO+, the Daya Bay Neutrino and LENA experiment. In solution with the commonly used scintillator PPO it is a colourless, odourless and cheap liquid scintillator with a high fash point and low health hazard compared to toluene based ones. The properties of LAB make this scintillator interesting also for nELBE, the neutron time-of-fight facility at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden - Rossendorf. A new approach to measure the light yield in the low-energy range using a combination of quasi-monoenergetic photon sources and a Compton-spectrometer is described. The latter allows the measurement of the light yield down to 5 keVee (electron equivalent). The Birks- Parameter was determined for a homemade solution (LAB + 3 g/l PPO) and for NE-213. The light yield (relative to this standard scintillator) was confrmed by measurements using a fuorescence spectrometer. The ability of pulse-shape-discrimination in a mixed n-gamma- field of a Cf(252) source was tested using different digital and semi-analogue techniques.

Non-Destructive Evaluation of the Condition of Subsurface Drainage in Pavement Using Ground Penetrating RADAR (GPR)

Hao Bai (5929478) 14 December 2020 (has links)
<div>Pavement drainage systems are one of the key drivers of pavement function and longevity, and effective drain maintenance can significantly extend a pavement's service life. Maintenance of these drains, however, is often hampered by the challenge of locating the drains. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) typically offers a rapid and effective method to detect these underground targets. However, typical detection schema that rely upon the observation of the hyperbolic return from a GPR scan of a buried conduit still tend to miss many of the older drains beneath pavements as they may be partially or fully filled with sediment and/or may be fabricated from clay or other earthen materials, yielding a return signal that is convolved with significant background noise. </div><div><br></div><div>To manage this challenge, this work puts forward an improved background noise and clutter reduction method to enhance the target signals in what amounts to a constructed environment that tends to have more consistent subsurface properties than one might encounter in a general setting. Within this technique, two major algorithms are employed. Algorithm 1 is the core of this method, and plays the role of reducing background noise and clutter. Algorithm 2 is supplementary, and helps eliminate anomalous discontinuous returns generated by the equipment itself, which could otherwise lead to false detection indications in the output of Algorithm 1. Instead of traditional 2-D GPR images, the result of the proposed algorithms is a 1-D plot along the survey line, highlighting a set of “points of interest” that could indicate buried drain locations identified at any given GPR operating frequency. Subsurface exploration using two different operating frequencies, 900 MHz and 400 MHz herein, is then employed to further enhance detection confidence. Points of interest are ultimately coded to define the confidence of the detection. Comparing the final result of proposed algorithms with the original GPR images, the improved algorithm is demonstrated to provide significantly improved detection results, and could potentially be applied to similar problems in other contexts.</div><div><br></div><div>Besides the background reduction methods, a group of simulations performed using GPRMAX2D software are examined to explore the influence of road cross-section designs on sub-pavement drainage conduit GPR signatures, and evaluate the effectiveness of alternate GPR antennae configurations in locating these buried conduits in different ground conditions. Two different models were explored to simulate conduit detection. In addition, different pipe and soil conditions were modeled, such as pipe size, pipe material, soil moisture level, and soil type. Four different quantitative measurements are used to analyze GPR performance based on different key factors. The four measurements are 1) signal to background ratio (SBR) in dB; 2) signal to receiver noise ratio (SNR) in dB; 3) signal energy in Volts; and 4) average signal band power in Watts.</div><div><br></div><div>The water and clay content of subsurface soil can significantly influence the detection results obtained from ground penetrating radar (GPR). Due to the variation of the material properties underground, the center frequency of transmitted GPR signals shifts to a lower range as wave attenuation increases. Examination of wave propagation in the subsurface employing an attenuation filter based on a linear system model shows that received GPR signals will be shifted to lower frequencies than those originally transmitted. The amount of the shift is controlled by a wave attenuation factor, which is determined by the dielectric constant, electric conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility of the transmitted medium. This work introduces a receiver-transmitter-receiver dual-frequency configuration for GPR that employs two operational frequencies for a given test - one higher and one slightly lower - to take advantage of this phenomenon to improve subpavement drain detection results. In this configuration, the original signal is transmitted from the higher frequency transmitter. After traveling through underground materials, the signal is received by two receivers with different frequencies. One of the receivers has the same higher center frequency as the transmitter, and the other receiver has a lower center frequency. This configuration can be expressed as Rx(low-frequency)-Tx(high-frequency)-Rx(high-frequency) and was applied in both laboratory experiments and field tests. Results are analyzed in the frequency domain to evaluate and compare the properties of the signal obtained by both receivers. The laboratory experiment used the configuration of Rx(400MHz)-Tx(900MHz)-Rx(900MHz). The field tests, in addition to the configuration used in the lab tests, employed another configuration of Rx(270MHz)-Tx(400MHz)-Rx(400MHz) to obtain more information about this phenomenon. Both lab and field test results illustrate the frequency-shift phenomenon described by theoretical calculations. Based on the power spectrum for each signal, the lower frequency antenna typically received more energy (higher density values) at its peak frequency than the higher frequency antenna.</div>

JUCE vs. FAUST : En jämförande studie i prestanda mellan plugins / JUCE vs. FAUST - A comparative study in performance between plugins

Hiljanen, Henric, Karlsson, Jonathan January 2020 (has links)
Purpose – Examine if there is any difference in performance between the C++ framework JUCE and the domain-specific programming language FAUST to create a decision basis to facilitate choices between them when developing plugins. Method – An experimental study where two delay-plugins with identical functionality were developed and compared in latency, CPU load and memory usage. The experiment consisted of three test cases and were performed on three different computers. Findings – FAUST performed better than JUCE regarding latency and CPU load during the experiment. JUCE on the other hand performed better than FAUST regarding memory usage. Implications – This study has made it easier to make a decision based on performance when choosing between JUCE and FAUST regarding development of plugins. Limitations – Time restrictions has led to only comparing JUCE and FAUST, leaving other relevant alternatives aside. It has also led to only developing one type of plugin. The results of the study cannot be generalized or applied to other frameworks and programming languages whose purpose is to ease processing of digital signals.

Effects of Bottom Chord Extensions on the Static and Dynamic Performance of Steel Joist Supported Floors

Avci, Onur 15 November 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of bottom chord extensions on deflections and vibration characteristics of joist supported floor systems when joist bottom chord extensions are installed. To understand the effect of bottom chord extensions on deflections, natural frequency, damping, mode shape and effective mass, extensive analytical and experimental studies were conducted on single span and three span joist supported laboratory footbridges with different bottom chord extension configurations. Finite element computer models were created to simulate and compare the results of stiffness and vibration tests. Testing was done with a) the bottom chord extensions in-place before the concrete was placed, b) with all or part of the bottom chord extensions removed, and c) after the bottom chord extensions had been reinstalled with jacking for the single span footbridge and without jacking for the three-span footbridge. Results from the stiffness tests indicate that re-installing the bottom chord extensions to the joists of the single span footbridge with cured concrete with the center of the span raised helps to reduce the uniform load deflections to some extent, but not as much as placing the bottom chord extensions before the concrete placement. Likewise, for the three span footbridge, placing the bottom chord extensions before the concrete placement is observed to be a better solution. Results from the dynamic tests indicate that the effect of bottom chord extensions on the single span footbridge is consistent for natural frequency, 20 psf live load deflections, sinusoidal excitations with high amplitudes, quarter point heel drop excitations, walking excitations, and effective mass values. The effect of bottom chord extensions on the three span footbridge is consistent for the natural frequency and 20 psf deflections. However, the FRF (Frequency Response Function) peaks of chirp, heel drop, sinusoidal excitations, accelerations from walking data, and the MEScope and Finite Element model effective mass results do not follow a common trend. It can be concluded that even though the footbridge was stiffened by the bottom chord extensions, that does not necessarily mean that the acceleration levels, and hence the frequency response function peaks, decrease. However, bottom chord extensions do increase the natural frequencies for all the three governing bending modes. / Ph. D.

Architecture and algorithms for the implementation of digital wireless receivers in FPGA and ASIC: ISDB-T and DVB-S2 cases

Rodrigues De Lima, Eduardo 21 March 2016 (has links)
[EN] The first generation of Terrestrial Digital Television(DTV) has been in service for over a decade. In 2013, several countries have already completed the transition from Analog to Digital TV Broadcasting, most of which in Europe. In South America, after several studies and trials, Brazil adopted the Japanese standard with some innovations. Japan and Brazil started Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) services in December 2003 and December 2007 respectively, using Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial (ISDB-T), also known as ARIB STD-B31. In June 2005 the Committee for the Information Technology Area (CATI) of Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation MCTI approved the incorporation of the IC-Brazil Program, in the National Program for Microelectronics (PNM) . The main goals of IC-Brazil are the formal qualification of IC designers, support to the creation of semiconductors companies focused on projects of ICs within Brazil, and the attraction of semiconductors companies focused on the design and development of ICs in Brazil. The work presented in this thesis originated from the unique momentum created by the combination of the birth of Digital Television in Brazil and the creation of the IC-Brazil Program by the Brazilian government. Without this combination it would not have been possible to make these kind of projects in Brazil. These projects have been a long and costly journey, albeit scientifically and technologically worthy, towards a Brazilian DTV state-of-the-art low complexity Integrated Circuit, with good economy scale perspectives, due to the fact that at the beginning of this project ISDB-T standard was not adopted by several countries like DVB-T. During the development of the ISDB-T receiver proposed in this thesis, it was realized that due to the continental dimensions of Brazil, the DTTB would not be enough to cover the entire country with open DTV signal, specially for the case of remote localizations far from the high urban density regions. Then, Eldorado Research Institute and Idea! Electronic Systems, foresaw that, in a near future, there would be an open distribution system for high definition DTV over satellite, in Brazil. Based on that, it was decided by Eldorado Research Institute, that would be necessary to create a new ASIC for broadcast satellite reception. At that time DVB-S2 standard was the strongest candidate for that, and this assumption still stands nowadays. Therefore, it was decided to apply to a new round of resources funding from the MCTI - that was granted - in order to start the new project. This thesis discusses in details the Architecture and Algorithms proposed for the implementation of a low complexity Intermediate Frequency(IF) ISDB-T Receiver on Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) CMOS. The Architecture proposed here is highly based on the COordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) Algorithm, that is a simple and efficient algorithm suitable for VLSI implementations. The receiver copes with the impairments inherent to wireless channels transmission and the receiver crystals. The thesis also discusses the Methodology adopted and presents the implementation results. The receiver performance is presented and compared to those obtained by means of simulations. Furthermore, the thesis also presents the Architecture and Algorithms for a DVB-S2 receiver targeting its ASIC implementation. However, unlike the ISDB-T receiver, only preliminary ASIC implementation results are introduced. This was mainly done in order to have an early estimation of die area to prove that the project in ASIC is economically viable, as well as to verify possible bugs in early stage. As in the case of ISDB-T receiver, this receiver is highly based on CORDIC algorithm and it was prototyped in FPGA. The Methodology used for the second receiver is derived from that used for the ISDB-T receiver, with minor additions given the project characteristics.
