One Step at a Time: The Dilemmas, Strategies, and Outcomes of Bi-National Same-Sex Relationships During DOMA and Beyond

Jesus Rafi, Aline 10 May 2017 (has links)
For 17 years, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Public Law 104-199, 110 U.S. Statutes at Large 2419 (1996), prevented same-sex couples from enjoying the same federal benefits granted to heteronormative married couples. Among these benefits, the inability to provide immigration sponsorship for foreign-born spouses was particularly burdensome for bi-national same-sex couples. In this dissertation, marriage inequality serves as the backdrop for an investigation of bi-national same-sex couples’ dilemmas, strategies, and ultimate outcomes during and after the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Section 3 of DOMA. With the use of semi-structured interviews, I collected data from 30 individuals in bi-national same-sex relationships who were together before and after the United States v. Windsor decision. My intent is to both document their experiences and to advance scholarship in the areas of social inequality and social change.

The birth at home is then in such a discourse considered to be hazardous practice which can threaten the life of the unborn child. This paper tries to contribute to the discussions about the freedom of choice of the place of birth. The birth is then viewed from the perspective of gender as a constructed phenomenon culturaly and socialy biased. The main focus is on the research of the experience of women who gave birth at home. Their experience is to be considered as constructed as well, therefore I investigate the leverages that influence their interpretation of the birth experience. I am also interested in researching how their experience influenced their futher life and what meaning they asign to it in the context of their life experience as such. Further interest of this paper is to research the knowledge that the women, who gave birth at home, used during the proces of childbirth. The main focus is to elicit the auhoritative knowledge based on which they make decisions and how this knowledge is constituted.

Examining Small Millet-Based Food and Livelihood Security: A case study of semi-arid mountain communities in Nepal

Dukpa, Rinchu Doma 17 January 2013 (has links)
The majority of households in the hill regions of Nepal are net consumers of their agricultural produce. The harsh geographical topography, low landholdings and uncertain weather make households in the hills more susceptible to food insecurity. This research examines the role of small millets in achieving food and livelihood security for the people of Dhikur Pokhari VDC in Nepal. As a project based on qualitative research, data was collected through semi-structured interviews, observations and focus group discussions. In addition, market and value chain analysis for small millets was conducted. The findings show that small millets have a significant role in ensuring food security, particularly for the marginalized households. The findings also show that, through their exchange properties, small millets contributed towards generating household livelihoods. Further, findings revealed the existing formal and informal markets for small millets and showed a direct correlation between small millets-based market, and food and livelihood security for the people of Dhikur Pokhari VDC.

This diploma theses deals with the construction of the neoplasm Biomother in the Czech media between 2010-2015.
