This dissertation sought a possibility of bringing the children dance early childhood education so that this artistic language dialoguing with the characteristics and needs of small. With this, aimed to investigate and identify the methodological principles of dance education in early childhood education. For this, I made use of action research as a research method, a qualitative approach, which included: (a) the study authors seeking to understand the peculiarities of child development and dance, among them Henri Wallon (1941, 1975) Dantas (1992), Galvão (1995), Mahoney and Almeida (2004 and 2009), Nunes (2000), Laban (1979, 1990), Marques (1999, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010), Rengel (1992, 2005 , 2008), Godoy (2003, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011) and Vieira (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012), (b) the monitoring of a field research project in dance at school, prepared by the Research Group Dance Aesthetics and Education, and (c) the realization of the Creative Dance, a pilot project with small children. For these first steps was possible to identify the methodological principles of teaching dance in early childhood education: eight assumptions dance (arts language, subject sociohistóricocultural, the notion of the body, spatial structure, self-other differentiation, social interaction, play and improvisation) and four elements dance (body, expressive movement, space and rhythm). With such principles listed initiated the second stage of the research: developing a new course named Planet Dance and implementing the Municipal School of Early Childhood Education Laudo Ferreira Camargo, located on the south of the city of São Paulo. The course was developed in 30 meetings twice a week for 45 minutes for a class of 35 children of 05 years old. During application, organized a record in the logbook of the classes... O Método BPI para criança : considerações acerca de uma prática corporal realizada com crianças de 7-8 anos / BPI Method for children : considerations about a body practice with children 7-8 years

Floriano, Mariana, 1985- 12 May 2014 (has links)
Orientador: Graziela Estela Fonseca Rodrigues / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T18:44:17Z (GMT). This Project named "The BPI Method for children: considerations over a body practice with 7-8 years old children" is a research of creation and training at the Dance-Researcher-Performer (BPI) Method. The aim of the project was to develop a body practice at the BPI Method for children, considering human developments aspects, specially those among body image and psychomotor. As a procedure, it was made 27 encounters with 10 kids among 7-8 years old of the Colégio EDUCAP School at Campinas city, in wich were applied BPI Method tools: Dance techniques, Senses Techniques, Registers and Conducted Laboratories, acclimatized by the Boi Celebration theme. As main goal of approaching and identification with children, it were shown scenes of a choreographic script of Menina¿s character. This character was the result of a creational process at the BPI Method, before the Master¿s degree, experienced in the researcher¿s body. After the activity with the children, the organization of the collected video records and the research diaries were made over the activity. Furthermore the researcher made body practice laboratories, directed by the Graziela Rodrigues, Dr. Prof. The data obtained indicates positive results for the children¿s body development, raising discussions over the importance of developing the imagination and creativity, aspects very stunted in this group of children. Another point of discussion involves the reverberations in the researcher¿s body from her work as a director of the group of children, highlighting the artistic and personal development as apprentice at the BPI Method. The deductions indicates fundamental aspects at the BPI Process for children: the play, in its full sense, as a bridge for the body development of the children and the director¿s prepare to conduct a body practice with children, that involves his own reconnection with the child he has been once. This research was approved by Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa ¿ CONEP ¿ and was funded by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo ¿ FAPESP / Mestrado / Teatro, Dança e Performance / Mestra em Artes da Cena

Why Dance? The Effects of a Group Dance Period on Social Attending, On-Task Behavior, Affect, Stereotypical Behavior, and Disruptive Behavior of Clients of an Autism Treatment Program

Allen, Emerald Elizabeth 05 1900 (has links)
Dance is an enjoyable activity that children can engage in across the lifespan. Many children with autism have limited leisure activity, such as dance, and also have challenges in terms of overall health related to physical activity. Previous research suggests that there are both immediate and prolonged benefits of exercise. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of a group dance period on on-task behavior, social attending, affect, stereotypic behavior, and disruptive behavior of three girls diagnosed with autism. The experimenter employed a reversal to evaluate the effects of a "dance party" on a range of behaviors over time. During dance activities, staff and children danced as a group and were observed before and after the dance period. During baseline there was no dance party. While no differences were found across measures, the children did have high levels of favorable affect during the dance party. The results are discussed in the context of previous literature and directions for future studies.

Identifying disparities in K-12 dance education in the state of Florida: the need for consistency in curricular choice and instructional design

Unknown Date (has links)
The purpose of this study was to identify disparities in the delivery of standards based dance education in the K-12 learning environment in the state of Florida and to give specific attention to curricular choices and instructional design. A mixed-methods approach was used and included a survey of K-12 dance educators in Florida as well as interviews with leaders in dance and arts education in the state. This inquiry identified common areas where curriculum choice and instructional design meet the barriers of time, space, place, learner population, expected educational outcomes, and teacher preparation. Each of these areas suggested specific limitations singularly, but when considered together, the effectiveness of K-12 dance programs appeared compromised by disparity and difficult to assess. By centralizing the focus of this inquiry on the realities of the learning environment in K-12 dance education in the state of Florida, the results of this study identified disparities in one state that may inform future research in the broader field of dance education. A set of Core Dance Education Values has been recommended as a guideline to better unify dance teaching goals in light of the research and in support of developing best practices for sustainable K-12 dance programming. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2014. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Quando a dança encontra a criança: um estudo acerca da criação em dança contemporânea para criança / When the dance meets the child: a study about the creation in contemporary dance for children

Given that contemporary dance to children is becoming an expressive area in the research and creation field in dance, this thesis endeavors to reflect the singularities in this area of scenic dance performance. At the meeting between contemporary dance and children emerges the intersecting of several areas of knowledge. From these studies, the reading of bibliographic references meets the analysis of three Brazilian works of art that fits into the field of dance production for children. Three productions from three dance companies that started from different creation processes were chosen by the belief that they can be relevant to establish a panorama of dance productions for the current children in the country. Dança em Jogo from Balangandança Cia, Poemas Cinéticos from Lagartixa na Janela and Pequena Coleção de Todas as Coisas from Cia Dani Lima were the chosen works of art. The analysis of these productions as well as the contextualization of the phenomenon dance for children were carried out from a theoretical frame composed with different authors from distincts fields as studies on childhood, cultural production, contemporary art, contemporary dance, aesthetic reception and other epistemological fields. Manoel de Barros - a poet who exercises being a child in his poetry - and children- who exercises being poet in your being child- also exerted great influence on this research. Both dance for children and Manoel de Barros poetry are languages to play. In the case of dance, the performer role is central in that language. Being a highly demanding and sincere public children, who is consider here a cultural and knowledge producer, needs to feel connected to the adults on the scene and, in order to have this connectivity with their target audience, the presence of a scenic body that is attentive and present, fluid and sensitive is fundamental. A goofy scenic body condition which expresses itself as entanglement and shares memory and imagination with the children through the expressiveness of the adult\'s gesture allows that dance and children meet themselves at the actuality of the scene and in one shared experience. Therefore, this research intends to contribute to contemporary dance, cultural production for children and studies of childhood through the interface of multidisciplinary studies.

Criterion-referenced assessment for modern dance education

MacIntyre, Christine Campbell January 1985 (has links)
This study monitored the conceptualisation, implementation and evaluation of criterion-referenced assessment for Modern Dance by two teachers specifically chosen because they represented the two most usual stances in current teaching i.e. one valuing dance as part of a wider, more general education, the other as a performance art. The Review of Literature investigated the derivation of these differences and identified the kinds of assessment criteria which would be relevant in each context. It then questioned both the timing of the application of the criteria and the benefits and limitations inherent in using a pre-active or re-active model. Lastly it examined the philosophy of criterion-referenced assessment and thereafter formulated the main hypothesis, i. e. "That criterion-referenced assessment is an appropriate and realistic method for Modern Dance in schools". Both the main and sub-hypotheses were tested by the use of Case Study/Collaborative Action research. In this chosen method of investigation the teachers' actions were the primary focus of study while the researcher played a supportive but ancillary role. The study has three sections. The first describes the process experienced by the teachers as they identified their criteria for assessment and put their new strategy into action. It shows the problems which arose and the steps which were taken to resolve them. It gives exemplars of the assessment instruments which were designed and evaluates their use. It highlights the differences in the two approaches to dance and the different competencies required by the teachers if their criterion-referenced strategy was adequately and validly to reflect the important features of their course. In the second section the focus moves from the teachers to the pupils. Given that the pupils have participated in different programmes of dance, the study investigates what criteria the pupils spontaneously use and what criteria they can be taught to use. It does this through the introduction of self-assessment in each course. In this way the pupils' observations and movement analyses were made explicit and through discussion, completing specially prepared leaflets and using video, they were recorded and compared. And finally, the research findings were circulated to a larger number of teachers to find to what extent their concerns and problems had been anticipated by the first two and to discover if they, without extensive support, could also mount a criterion-referenced assessment strategy with an acceptable amount of effort and within a realistic period of time. And given that they could, the final question concerned the evaluations of all those participants i.e. teachers, parents and pupils. Would this extended group similarly endorse the strategy and strengthen the claim that criterion-referenced assessment was a valid and beneficial way of assessing Modern Dance in Schools?

Music for early childhood : guidelines for parents in the Western Cape

Koch-Locner, Aletta Maria 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (M.Mus.)--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The research for this thesis is presented in the form of a practical guideline for parents and educators in the Western Cape area. The important role of music in early childhood is emphasised throughout. Research, guidance and practical activities for the music education and development of the toddler and preschooler, are presented. The author answers and discusses the questions frequently asked by parents concerning musical education for their children, namely why, when and how, in the five chapters of the thesis. The importance of music education for children (the question concerning why) is discussed and emphasised by means of eleven different reasons supported by research. In Chapter 2, the important role of the parent as the child’s first music educator and prenatal stimulation is discussed (the question concerning when). In the two chapters that follow, the author provides parents with information about basic music concepts and skills that children should be able to master at specific ages. Throughout these chapters, practical activities to illustrate these concepts and to practise the relevant skills are suggested (the how question). Guidelines are presented concerning how play with the child should be approached and handled, as well as guidelines for the child’s first formal instrumental teaching and for choosing an instrument and a music teacher. The research is concluded with a practical section containing extensive lists of songs (in categories), CDs, DVDs, books and web addresses for the use of parents needing resources and further guidance.
