Urban densification is the current planning ideal today with arguments of social, economic and ecological sustainability. However, this way of exploiting the urban area seem to result in a decrease of the amount of open space and green area available for children. By examining the accessible open space in primary schools in Malmö, this study has tried to determine whether one can find geographic or socioeconomic patterns connected to this asset. The study has been carried out with the help of GIS after a literature review of necessary theory and legislation had been done. The outcome shows that schools in some districts, primarily the area surrounding the city center, are not as good as the others to provide for the child’s need for open space. Six of the schools don’t even manage to meet the required square meter (m2) of open space stipulated by the municipality of Malmö, Malmö Stad. This result describes an uneven distribution of open space depending on the child's geography. An unfair development from the child’s perspective, which in turn brings numerous negative effects both physical and psychological for their childhood.

Usando o modelo de ajustamento apresentado por Schaffrin (2001), este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para ajustamento de redes geodésicas GPS de densificação e extensão, a qual substitui com vantagem o tratamento clássico que utiliza um ajustamento livre seguido por uma \"transformação de Helmert\". A característica deste método é introduzir um procedimento estatisticamente ótimo, baseado no princípio dos mínimos quadrados, que permita ajustar a nova rede, vinculando-a a pontos fiduciais, e conectando-a a pontos de ligação com redes vizinhas de mesmo nível, considerados \"hierarquicamente superiores\" no processo. A técnica da \"propriedade reprodutora\" permite que esses pontos sejam ponderados em função das variâncias decorrentes de suas determinações, mas tenham suas coordenadas preservadas. Para a implementação dessa metodologia, foi desenvolvido um programa, em linguagem FORTRAN, que realiza o ajustamento vetorial da rede, utilizando o modelo paramétrico do método dos mínimos quadrados. O procedimento adotado consiste em fazer com que as variâncias dos pontos de injunção sejam introduzidas na nova rede, e que as coordenadas desses pontos, modificadas pelo ajustamento, sejam recuperadas. O programa apresenta também uma seqüência de testes que possibilitam a detecção, investigação e adaptação de possíveis erros encontrados. / By using the adjustment model presented by Schaffrin (2001), this work presents a methodology for the adjustment of GPS geodetic networks of densification and extension, which substitutes with advantage the classic treatment that uses a free net adjustment followed by a \"Helmert transformation\". The feature of this method is to introduce a statistically optimal procedure, based on least squares principle, that allows adjust the new network, linking it to fiducial points and connecting it to tiepoints with same level neighbor networks, all of them considered \"hierarchically superior\" in the process. The \"reproducing property\" technique allows that these points were weighed up as a function of the variances obtained in the preliminary determination, but they have their coordinates preserved. For this methodology implementation, a software in FORTRAN language was developed for the network vectorial adjustment, by using the linear parametric model of least-squares method. The adopted procedure allows the constraint point variances to propagate in the new network, but afterwards the coordinates of these points, changed in the adjustment, are retrieved. The software presents a sequence of tests to detect, to investigate and to analyze possible encountered errors, too.

Sinterização, microestrutura e condutividade elétrica da céria-gadolínia com adições de SrO, TiO2 e SrTiO3 / Sintering, microstructure and electrical conductivity of gadolinia-doped ceria with SrO, TiO2 and SrTiO3

Eletrólitos sólidos de céria com adição de íons de terras raras trivalentes apresentam elevada condutividade iônica quando comparados com a zircônia estabilizada com ítria, que é um eletrólito sólido padrão. Por isso, esses condutores de íons oxigênio à base de céria têm potencial de aplicação em células a combustível de óxido sólido que operam em temperaturas intermediárias (500-700ºC). Uma das abordagens mais investigadas para otimização da condutividade elétrica e de outras propriedades destes materiais é a incorporação de um segundo aditivo. Neste trabalho, composições de céria-20% mol gadolínia com SrO, TiO2 e SrTiO3 como co-aditivos, em teores de 1; 2,5 e 5% em mol foram preparadas por reação em estado sólido. O principal objetivo foi verificar o efeito dos aditivos na densificação, na microestrutura e na condutividade elétrica da céria-gadolínia. Os compactos sinterizados foram caracterizados por medidas de densidade aparente, difração de raios X e espectroscopia Raman para determinação das fases cristalinas, microscopia eletrônica de varredura para observar as diferentes microestruturas das composições, e medida da condutividade elétrica por espectroscopia de impedância. Os resultados mostraram que os aditivos exercem influência em todas as propriedades investigadas, mas de forma diferente dependendo do tipo e do teor. De forma geral, SrO exerce efeito benéfico na condutividade elétrica intergranular, mas prejudica a densificação. O TiO2 promove um aumento na densificação da céria-gadolínia, mas aumenta também o bloqueio aos portadores de carga nos contornos de grão, além de resultar na formação da fase pirocloro Gd2Ti2O7, quando adicionado em teores acima do limite de solubilidade. O SrTiO3 não produz alterações na densificação da céria-gadolínia. / Ceria containing trivalent rare-earths is a solid electrolyte with higher ionic conductivity than the standard yttria fully-stabilized zirconia ionic conductor. This property turns these ceria-based ionic conductors promising materials for application in solid oxide fuel cells operating at intermediate temperatures (500-700ºC). One of the most utilized approaches to optimize the electrical conductivity and other properties of these materials is the introduction of a second additive. In this work, ceria-20 mol% gadolinia with additions of 1, 2.5 and 5 mol% of SrO, TiO2 and SrTiO3 as co-additives were prepared by solid state reaction. The main purpose was to investigate the effects of the co-additives on densification, microstructure and electrical conductivity of the solid electrolyte. Sintered pellets were characterized by apparent density, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and electrical conductivity by impedance spectroscopy. The additives were found to exert different influences in all studied properties. The way they influence the solid electrolyte properties depends on the type and content of the additive. SrO addition to doped ceria improves the intergranular conductivity, but decreases the apparent density of the pellets. Increase of densification was obtained with TiO2 addition. This additive promotes increase of the blocking of charge carriers at the grain boundaries due to solute exsolution and formation of the pyrochlore Gd2Ti2O7 phase at grain boundaries for contents in excess of the solubility limit. No influence on densification was found for SrTiO3 additions.

Densidade populacional do feijÃo-caupi sob nÃveis de irrigaÃÃo / Population density of cowpea under irrigation levels

No estado do PiauÃ, seu baixo rendimento mÃdio ainda persiste nos dias atuais, apesar da cultura ser bem adaptada Ãs condiÃÃes edafoclimÃticas da regiÃo e de existirem cultivares melhoradas disponÃveis no mercado. Assim, estudos que descrevam melhores prÃticas de manejo da cultura com a combinaÃÃo adequada da densidade de plantas e lÃmina de irrigaÃÃo, sÃo importantes à medida que sÃo capazes de apresentar alternativas que possibilitem o aumento da eficiÃncia de utilizaÃÃo da Ãgua pela cultura e a reduÃÃo dos custos com insumos agrÃcolas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a possÃvel interaÃÃo de nÃveis de Ãgua e densidade de plantas do feijÃo-caupi sobre os parÃmetros de crescimento, trocas gasosas, componentes de produÃÃo, produtividade de grÃos, eficiÃncia do uso da Ãgua e distribuiÃÃo da umidade no solo. O experimento foi conduzido no perÃodo de julho a setembro de 2012, no campo experimental da Embrapa Meio-Norte, localizado no municÃpio de Teresina, PiauÃ. Os tratamentos consistiram de cinco lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo (L5-150%, L4-120%, L3-90%, L2-60% e L1-30% da ETo) e quatro densidades populacionais (D1-150.00; D2-200.000; D3-250.000; D4-300.000 plantas ha-1). Houve interaÃÃo significativa, entre os nÃveis de irrigaÃÃo e as densidades populacionais nos componentes de produÃÃo, nÃmero de vagens por planta, peso de vagens, produtividade de vagens, comprimento de vagem, peso de cem grÃos, produtividade de grÃos e eficiÃncia do uso da Ãgua. A produtividade de grÃos apresentou valor mÃximo de 1.668,86 kg ha-1 com uma lÃmina de irrigaÃÃo de 390,88 mm associada à densidade de 241.000 plantas ha-1. Obteve-se o valor mÃximo de eficiÃncia do uso da Ãgua, 4,78 kg ha-1 mm-1, com a lÃmina de 342,97 mm e densidade populacional de 233.000 plantas ha-1. No que se refere à distribuiÃÃo da umidade do solo, sob as maiores lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo e nas diferentes densidades de semeadura, houve consumo hÃdrico diferenciado do feijÃo-caupi em funÃÃo da densidade de raÃzes. O padrÃo de extraÃÃo de Ãgua do solo pelas raÃzes do feijÃo-caupi foi diretamente proporcional Ãs densidades de semeadura avaliadas. NÃo houve grande variaÃÃo da extraÃÃo de Ãgua nas diferentes densidades do feijÃo-caupi quando submetido Ãs menores lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo. Sob uma lÃmina de irrigaÃÃo de L5 â 150% ETo e densidade de plantas de 241.000 plantas ha-1, o feijÃo-caupi responde melhor em termos produtivos, com a manutenÃÃo da capacidade de Ãgua disponÃvel no solo, na faixa aproximada de 80% (na camada de 0,10 m) a 60% (na camada de 0,30 m). A interaÃÃo significativa entre os nÃveis de irrigaÃÃo e as densidades populacionais para Ãrea foliar do feijÃo-caupi, indica que hà reduÃÃo nesse parÃmetro de crescimento com diminuiÃÃes nos nÃveis de Ãgua e densidade de plantas. Os maiores valores ocorrem com lÃmina de irrigaÃÃo de 367,86 mm e densidade de 188.000 plantas ha-1. Isoladamente, a aplicaÃÃo contÃnua de Ãgua elevou a taxa fotossintÃtica, a condutÃncia estomÃtica e a transpiraÃÃo com reduzidos valores nas menores lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo 201,73 mm e 260,39 mm. / The cowpea is a crop traditionally produced in the North and Northeast regions. In the state of PiauÃ, its low average income still persists today, despite the culture was well adapted to soil and climatic conditions of the region and there are improved cultivars available on the market. Thus, studies that describe best practices in crop management with the proper combination of plant density and irrigation levels, are important as they are able to present alternatives that enable increased efficiency of water use by the crop and reduce costs with agricultural inputs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible interaction of water levels and plant density on cowpea growth parameters, gas exchange, yield components, grain yield, efficiency of water use and distribution of soil moisture. The experiment was conducted during the period July to September 2012 in the experimental field of Embrapa Meio-Norte, located in the city of Teresina, PiauÃ. Treatments consisted of five irrigation (L5 -150%, L4 -120%, L3 - 90%, L2 - 60% and L1 - 30 % of ETo) and four densities (D1 â 150,000, D2 - 200,000, D3 -250,000, D4 â 300,000 plants ha-1). There was a significant interaction between irrigation levels and population densities for yield components, number of pods per plant, weight of pods, pod yield, pod length, pod weight of hundred grains, grain yield and water use efficiency. Grain yield showed the maximum value of 1668.86 kg ha- 1 with a water depth of 390.88 mm associated with the density of 241,000 plants ha- 1. Obtained the maximum efficiency of use of water, 4.78 kg ha-1 mm-1 with the blade of 342.97 mm and density of 233,000 plants ha-1. As regards the distribution of soil moisture under the higher irrigation regimes and different seeding rates, water consumption was different cowpea depending on the density of roots. The pattern of water extraction from the soil by roots of cowpea was directly proportional to the seeding densities evaluated. There was wide variation in water extraction in different densities of cowpea when subjected to minor irrigation. Under a water depth of L5 - 150% ETo and plant density of 241,000 plants ha- 1, the cowpea responsive in terms of production, maintaining the available water capacity in the soil, in the approximate range of 80% (in the layer of 0.10 m) to 60% (in the layer of 0.30 m). A significant interaction between irrigation levels and population densities for leaf area of cowpea, indicates that there is a reduction in growth with decreases in water levels and plant density parameter. The highest values occur with irrigation depth of 367.86 mm and density of 188,000 plants ha- 1. Separately, the continuous application of water increased the photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration with reduced values in the smaller irrigation 201.73 mm and 260.39 mm .

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / The Coastal Tablelands are a geomorphological unit associated with sediments of Barreiras Formation and feature great interest to farm. However, some soils of this region have subsurface horizons with cohesive character, which can cause physical impediments to the development of the root system and the dynamics of water. The genesis of the cohesive character has not yet been fully elucidated, but it is known that occurs naturally. However, some studies have linked the genesis of these horizons to several factors such as particle size of the soil, clay translocation processes and the action of organic and inorganic cementing agents. Thus, this study was conducted in order to obtain greater insight into the characteristics and the genesis of soils with this character. Therefore, soils were studied presenting horizons with cohesive character, seeking to identify and characterize processes that govern the genesis horizons with cohesive character in soils of Coastal Tablelands of CearÃ. The study was conducted in two areas of the Coastal Plains of the state of Cearà (Pacajus and Trairi), where soils are arranged in topossequence and present cohesive character. The samples were subjected to physical fractionation of the sand fraction and morphoscopic analysis. Sequential extraction was carried out on Si surface and subsurface horizons, as well as chemical fractionation of humic substances. The results show that the two areas of study have different processes associated with the genesis of cohesive. In Pacajus soils showed moderate degree of selection, however the high concentration of clay subsurface influences the density of these soils. The cohesive soils of Trairi have a poor degree of selection, which facilitates the adjustment of these particles and the action of low crystalline compounds as cementing agent. / Os Tabuleiros Costeiros constituem uma unidade geomorfolÃgica associada aos sedimentos da FormaÃÃo Barreiras e apresentam grande interesse para exploraÃÃo agrÃcola. No entanto, alguns solos dessa regiÃo apresentam horizontes subsuperficiais com carÃter coeso, os quais podem causar impedimentos fÃsicos ao desenvolvimento do sistema radicular e à dinÃmica da Ãgua. A gÃnese do carÃter coeso ainda nÃo foi completamente esclarecida, apenas sabe-se que ocorre de forma natural. No entanto, alguns trabalhos tÃm associado a gÃnese desses horizontes a diversos fatores como a granulometria dos solos, processos de translocaÃÃo de argila e a aÃÃo de agentes cimentantes orgÃnicos e inorgÃnicos. Dessa forma, este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o intuito de obter maior conhecimento sobre as caracterÃsticas e a gÃnese de solos que apresentam esse carÃter. Para tanto, foram estudados solos que apresentem horizontes com carÃter coeso, procurando-se identificar e caracterizar processos que regem a gÃnese de horizontes com carÃter coeso nos solos dos Tabuleiros Costeiros do CearÃ. O estudo foi realizado em duas Ãreas dos Tabuleiros Costeiros do estado do Cearà (Pacajus e Trairi), nas quais os solos estÃo dispostos em topossequÃncia e apresentam carÃter coeso. As amostras foram submetidas a fracionamento fÃsico da fraÃÃo areia e anÃlise morfoscÃpica. A extraÃÃo sequencial de Si foi realizada em horizontes de superfÃcie e subsuperfÃcie, assim como o fracionamento quÃmico das substÃncias hÃmicas. Os resultados apontam que, as duas Ãreas de estudos apresentam diferentes processos associados à gÃnese do coeso. Em Pacajus os solos apresentaram moderado grau de seleÃÃo, no entanto a elevada concentraÃÃo de argila em subsuperfÃcie influencia o adensamento desses solos. Os solos coesos de Trairi apresentam um pobre grau de seleÃÃo, o que facilita o ajuste dessas partÃculas e a aÃÃo de compostos de baixa cristalinidade como agente cimentante. Os fracionamentos horizontes com carÃter coeso e sem carÃter coeso, entretanto os compostos de baixa cristalinidade apresentam Al com teores mais altos e Si em menor proporÃÃo.

A room-temperature fabrication method for microwave dielectric Li₂MoO₄ ceramics and their applicability for antennas

Abstract This work presents a method for the fabrication of Li₂MoO₄ ceramics at room-temperature based on utilizing a small amount of water with Li₂MoO₄ powder. The densification of the ceramic takes place during pressing. Thus the shape and size of the final ceramic compact can easily be managed by controlling the mould dimensions and the amount of material. Post-processing at 120 °C is applied to remove residual water from the compact. This post-processing temperature can be chosen to be suitable to the other materials integrated, such as the substrate or electrodes, as long as the post-processing time is adequate to remove the residual water. The dielectric properties (relative permittivity of 5.1 and a loss tangent value of 0.00035 at 9.6 GHz) after optimization of the powder particle size, sample pressing pressure, and post-processing time were similar to those achieved for Li₂MoO₄ ceramics fabricated by sintering at 540 °C. The dielectric properties of Li₂MoO₄ ceramics were also modified using composite methods. For example, an addition of 10 volume-% of BaTiO₃ increased the relative permittivity from 6.4 to 9.7 and the loss tangent value from 0.0006 to 0.011 at 1 GHz. To investigate the thermal dependence of the permittivity, different amounts of rutile TiO₂ were incorporated into a Li₂MoO₄ ceramic matrix fabricated with the method described in this work. As the amount of TiO₂ increased from 10 to 30 volume-%, the thermal coefficient of permittivity decreased from 180 ppm/°C to -170 ppm/°C. The low processing temperature made the fabrication approach introduced here feasible for silver electrode integration without the formation of extra phases, which were observed in sintered samples with similar compositions in another study. A patch antenna was realized utilizing a Li₂MoO₄ ceramic disk fabricated by the room-temperature method. The antenna operating at ~4 GHz showed reasonably good performance. A relative humidity of 80% lowered the resonant frequency by 3.25% from the initial value, and reduced the total and radiation efficiencies of the antenna by ~2 dB. The changes were slowly reversible. Use of a silicone conformal coating reduced the shift of the resonant frequency to 1.26% from the initial value and also reduced the effect on efficiencies to ~1 dB. The use of the coating also speeded up the reversibility of the changes when the humidity was decreased. / Tiivistelmä Tässä työssä esitellään menetelmä, jolla Li₂MoO₄-keraameja voidaan valmistaa huoneenlämpötilassa. Menetelmä hyödyntää pientä määrää Li₂MoO₄-vesiliuosta ja sen kiteytymistä. Keraami tiivistyy kappaletta puristettaessa, joten sen koko ja muoto ovat sama kuin muotilla riippuen vain keraamin määrästä. Kappaleeseen jäänyt vesi poistetaan lämpökäsittelyllä yleensä 120 celsiusasteessa. Jälkikäsittelylämpötila voidaan valita muiden integroitavien materiaalien mukaan, kuten alusta- tai elektrodimateriaalin, kunhan jälkikäsittelyaikaa muokataan vastaavasti, jotta kaikki vesi poistuu. Optimoimalla Li₂MoO₄-jauheen partikkelikokoa, puristuspainetta ja jälkikäsittelyaikaa saavutettiin samankaltaiset dielektriset ominaisuudet taajuudella 9,6 GHz (suhteellinen permittiivisyys 5,1 ja häviötangentti 0,00035) kuin Li₂MoO₄-keraameilla, jotka on sintrattu 540 celsiusasteessa. Li₂MoO₄-keraamien dielektrisiä ominaisuuksia muokattiin myös lisäaineilla. Esimerkiksi 10 tilavuus-% BaTiO₃-jauhetta kasvatti suhteellista permittiivisyyttä taajuudella 1 GHz arvosta 6,4 arvoon 9,7 ja häviötangenttia arvosta 0,0006 arvoon 0,011. TiO₂-jauheen määrän kasvaessa 10 tilavuusprosentista 30 tilavuusprosenttiin laski permittiivisyyden lämpötilariippuvuus arvosta 180 ppm/°C arvoon -170 ppm/°C. Matalan käsittelylämpötilan ansiosta työssä esitelty valmistusmenetelmä soveltui käytettäväksi hopeaelektrodien kanssa. Aiemman tutkimuksen mukaan nämä komposiittimateriaalit muodostivat ei-toivottuja faaseja sintrattaessa hopean kanssa. Menetelmällä valmistettua Li₂MoO₄-keraamikiekkoa käytettiin mikroliuska-antennin valmistuksessa. Taajuudella 4 GHz toimivan antennin suorituskyky oli suunnitellun kaltainen. 80 prosentin suhteellinen ilmankosteus laski resonanssitaajuutta 3,25 % alkuperäisestä arvosta ja vähensi antennin kokonais- ja säteilytehokkuutta noin 2 dB. Muutokset palautuivat hitaasti. Silikonisuojalakan käyttö vähensi taajuuden laskua 1,26 prosenttiin alkuperäisestä arvosta ja tehokkuudet laskivat vain noin 1 dB. Suojalakan käyttö nopeutti muutosten palautuvuutta ilmankosteuden laskiessa.

Etude des mécanismes activés par SPS dans un alliage TiAl et dans le système Ag-Zn / Study of the mechanisms activated by SPS in TiAl and Ag-Zn

Ce travail porte sur les mécanismes de densification de systèmes métalliques par frittage flash (spark plasma sintering, SPS). Dans ce procédé actuellement en plein essor, la poudre est densifiée en présence de pulses de courant électrique très intenses. La cinétique de densification étant beaucoup plus rapide que par les techniques conventionnelles, de nombreuses études dans le monde portent actuellement sur l'effet des pulses de courant. Les hypothèses habituelles font état d'arcs et de plasma entre particules de poudre, de surchauffe localisée au niveau des ponts, d'électromigration et d'électroplasticité. Dans cette étude, nous avons considéré des conducteurs électriques, TiAl et Ag-Zn, pour mettre en évidence de tels effets. Des prélèvements de lames minces de microscopie électronique en transmission (MET) par faisceau d'ions focalisé au niveau des ponts entre particules de poudre de TiAl ont montré l'absence de surchauffes dans ces zones. Par ailleurs, les mécanismes de plasticité identifiés par MET étaient classiques. Des comparaisons avec le pressage à chaud, méthode conventionnelle de frittage, ont montré que le courant n'accélérait pas ces mécanismes. Des études modèles de déformation à chaud d'échantillons massifs ont montré que, dans les conditions thermomécaniques de sollicitation des particules de poudre, la plasticité impliquait des mécanismes de maclage, de glissement et de montée des dislocations, accompagnés de restauration et de recristallisation dynamiques, et que la cinétique résultante était contrôlée par la diffusion en volume de l'Al. Enfin, des études d'électromigration dans des couples de diffusion Ag-Zn ont montré l'absence d'influence de courants, même très intenses, sur la diffusion. Ces résultats, qui montrent l'absence d'électromigration et de phénomènes spécifiques aux ponts entre particules de poudre, apportent des réponses décisives sur les mécanismes controversés de densification par SPS. / This study reports on the densification mechanisms in metallic systems by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. In this emerging powder metallurgy process, the powder is densified under pressure in presence of electric current pulses of high intensity. The sintering kinetics being much faster than that of the conventional techniques, many studies aim at exploring the potentially original mechanisms involved. Thus, sparks and plasma between powder particles, local overheating phenomena, electromigration and electroplasticity mechanisms, are postulated to occur during densification by SPS. In this study, electric conductors, TiAl and Ag-Zn, have been selected to evidence such effects. Focused ion beam lift-outs of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) thin foils at the necks between TiAl powder particles showed the absence of overheating in these zones, and that the plasticity mechanisms identified were classical. Comparisons with the classical hot pressing technique showed no acceleration of these mechanisms by the current. Model studies of deformation at high temperature of bulk samples indicated that, in the thermomechanical conditions of solicitation of the powder particles, plasticity occurred by mechanisms of twinning, glide and climb of the dislocations, accompanied by dynamic recovery and recrystallization, and that the resulting kinetics was controlled by volume diffusion of Al. Finally, electromigration studies in Ag-Zn diffusion couples showed that currents, even very intense, did not have an effect on diffusion mechanism. These results, showing no electromigration and no specific phenomena at the necks between the powder particles, provide decisive answers about the controversial SPS densification mechanisms.

Mémoire blessée et patrimoine local : Le cas de la Basse-Ville d'Ottawa

La géographie du patrimoine a eu tendance à distinguer assez radicalement l’étude des mécanismes locaux de la désignation patrimoniale de celle très symbolique des revendications commémoratives en lien avec des épisodes traumatiques, délaissant de fait la recherche, dans les conflits patrimoniaux locaux, sur l’une des sources essentielles de l’attachement territorial : la mémoire locale. Alors que la flambée des mémoires blessées et minoritaires ainsi que les processus de la construction de la mémoire nationale concentraient les chercheurs, l’échelle locale du phénomène était en effet largement délaissée. Proposant une exploration de cette piste, cette thèse s’intéresse à la mémoire entretenue et mobilisée par certains membres d’une communauté minoritaire autour de son quartier, considérablement transformé par une opération de redéveloppement et dont les dernières traces sont menacées par la densification urbaine. Selon une méthode inductive et grâce à l’analyse de différents discours portant sur le territoire, nous nous intéressons dans un premier temps à la résistance des citoyens contre la rénovation urbaine de la Basse-Ville d’Ottawa dans les années 1960 et 1970 et, dans un second temps, à la réactivation dans le cadre de conflits patrimoniaux contemporains de la mémoire de ce quartier et de sa rénovation urbaine. Le manque de reconnaissance dont fait l’objet le patrimoine du quartier est vécue aujourd’hui par certains acteurs locaux comme un double traumatisme : au souvenir réactivé de la rénovation urbaine vient s’ajouter celui de la destruction des derniers bâtiments porteurs de leur mémoire du lieu, dans un contexte de densification urbaine. Notre thèse, en apportant un nouvel éclairage sur les espaces d’expression de la mémoire du lieu en géographie du patrimoine urbain, permet d’accéder à un autre niveau de compréhension des revendications patrimoniales et d’illustrer, à l’échelle locale, la lutte pour la reconnaissance du lieu de vie fragilisé d’une communauté minoritaire. Réclamant la désignation de ses édifices porteurs de mémoire, cette lutte s’inscrit dans les grands changements observés aux échelles nationales et internationales pour une politique patrimoniale et commémorative plus inclusive de la diversité des populations : une demande de justice patrimoniale.

Densification beyond city centres : A socioeconomic investigation of the densification process in Lundby, Gothenburg

Contemporary urban planning for the past decades has concentrated on sustainable development, for instance through the promotion of dense development (Echenique et al., 2012). Important components for sustainable urban development concerns increasing residential and building density, as means of counteracting the consequences of urban sprawl (Jenks and Jones, 2008). Because it is argued that high-residential density is more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable than low-density since a higher concentration of people contributes to for instance shorter transportation distances as well as makes services and amenities more economically viable  (Frey, 1999; Haughton and Hunter, 2004). However, whether the densification of cities has desirable or undesirable social, economic and ecological impacts is highly contested. The purpose of this study is to analyze the socioeconomic outcomes of the urban densification process in the Lundby District, Gothenburg, over time. Through a mixed method approach, statistical information for Lundby District, for the years 2008 to 2015 have been processed and two semi-structured interviews with employees in the City Planning Authority and Lundby District Administration were conducted. The densification in Lundby presents certain strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. As more than 6300 new housing units has been constructed during this time-period, and more is to come in the near future, Lundby experienced a repopulation as the housing construction has facilitate a population increase of more than 11 000 new inhabitants. However, as the favored tenure developed during this time-period been condominiums certain weaknesses exist. Nonetheless, densification and the rapid increase in population has contributed to the number of vehicle per 100 inhabitants decreasing, which presents opportunities for being more environmentally friendly. On the other hand the claim that through densification could diversity and social mixing be achieved is flawed, as seen in Lundby the densification process has brought changes in population structure and socioeconomic characteristics, which suggest some form of gentrification is occurring.

Faz-se notória a ideia de que o crescimento das cidades e o consequente aumento no adensamento das mesmas é, nos dias atuais, um fato inevitável; e que o homem, ao modificar o meio natural, o faz quase sempre de forma danosa. Formação de ilhas de calor, aumento do consumo de energia, dificuldade na dispersão de poluentes, diminuição do ângulo de visão do céu, diminuição da taxa de permeabilidade do solo entre outros, são problemas frequentemente relacionados com a densificação e verticalização das cidades. A utilização de modelos reduzidos para simulações experimentais em túneis de vento das condições naturais de ventilação se mostram eficazes, além de reduzir custos em pesquisas nesta área. Embasando-se em tais pressupostos, o presente trabalho pretende verificar as alterações das características dos escoamentos de vento provocadas por distintos padrões de ocupação do solo urbano no bairro do Altiplano Cabo Branco, na cidade de João Pessoa-PB. A área em estudo atravessa um processo acelerado de modificação nas suas características de ocupação urbana, conduzido pelas alterações dos indicadores urbanísticos locais, antes mais restritivos, possibilitando agora edificações com gabaritos em altura significativamente maiores do que os anteriormente observados no local. Parte-se então da hipótese de que o processo de verticalização resultante deste crescimento é capaz de alterar os escoamentos de ventos não apenas nas áreas onde este ocorre, mas também em áreas contíguas. No desenvolvimento deste trabalho, de caráter experimental, foram avaliados dois modelos de adensamentos urbanos para a área de estudo O primeiro deles reproduz a ocupação da área conforme se encontrava antes de mudanças ocorridas nos indicadores urbanísticos para o local. O segundo apresenta a configuração atual de ocupação da área, delineada pela legislação em vigor. Para viabilizar esta avaliação serão realizados ensaios no Túnel de Vento de retorno fechado, Professor Joaquim Blessmann, do Laboratório de Aerodinâmica das Construções da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, utilizando maquetes (modelos) em escala reduzida e observando os requerimentos necessários estabelecidos para este padrão de estudo experimental. Foram utilizados nos ensaios para cada uma das duas configurações de vizinhança dois ângulos de ataque de vento, 150 e 90 graus, tomando como referência o atlas de vento do local de estudo. A partir da análise dos resultados obtidos é possível concluir que a verticalização, da maneira como propõe legislação atual para a área, não apresenta perdas significativas no que se refere aos escoamentos (ventos) quando comparada com o padrão de ocupação anterior sem os edifícios altos. As áreas adjacentes também não sofrem maiores prejuízos no que se refere aos escoamentos quando comparados os dois modelos. / What is worth elucidating is the idea about city expansion and consequent increasing effects of the densification is, now are days, an unavoidable fact; and that human, by modifying the natural environment, does so always in a destructive way. Formation of heat island, increase of the energy consumption, difficulty in the dispersion of pollutants, reduction in the sky view angle, diminution of the level of soil permeability among others, are problem frequently related to densification and verticalization of cities. The use of reduced models for experimental simulation in wind tunnel considering natural conditions of ventilation prove to be effective, apart from low down cost of experiments in this area of research. Based on such assumption, the aim of this research was to verify the alterations of wind flow characteristics provoked on distinct occupation pattern of urban soil in the district of Altiplano Cabo Branco, in the city of João Pesssoa-PB. The studied site passed through a fast process of physical modification in its urban occupation characteristics, conducted by local urban indicators, which was earlier more restrictive, presently permitting building with considerable standard that are higher than those, which were formerly observed on site. Based on the assumption that the process of verticalization as a product of growth may alter the wind flow not only in the areas where it occurs but also in adjacent areas In developing this work, experimentally, two models of urban concentrations were examined on the study area. The first was reproduced on the occupation of the area as it was founded before the changes in the local urban indicators. The second shows the current configuration of occupation of the area outlined by the current legislation. To make this assessment tests were carried out in the Boundary layer wind tunnel, Professor Joaquim Blessmann, of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, by use of model building of reduced scale and observing the necessary requirements established for this standard experimental study. Two angles of attack of wind were utilized in the two experiments, 150 and 90 degrees, with reference to the wind atlas of site of study. From the result of this analysis we conclude that virtualization of the occupation proposed by the current proposed legislation for the site does not present significant losses when compared with the previous standard of occupation lacking the tall buildings. Adjacent areas do not affected by losses in relation to the wind flow of the two models that was compared.
