Mixed Simulations and Design of a Wideband Continuous-Time Bandpass Delta-Sigma Converter Dedicated to Software Dfined Radio Applications / Étude d'un émetteur numérique direct RF à base de synthétiseur numérique direct et de verrouillage par injectionMariano, André Augusto 31 October 2008 (has links)
Wireless front-end receivers of last generation mobile devices operate at least two frequency translations before I/Q demodulation. Frequency translation increases the system complexity, introducing several problems associated with the mixers (dynamic range limitation, noise injection from the local oscillator, etc.). Herein, the position of the analog-to-digital interface in the receiver chain can play an important role. Moving the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) as near as possible to the antenna, permits to simplify the overall system design and to alleviate requirements associated with analog functions (filters, mixers). These currently requirements have led to a great effort in designing improved architectures as Continuous-Time Delta-Sigma ADCs. The behavioural modeling this converter, although the circuit design of the main blocks has been the subject of this thesis. The use of an advanced design methodology, allowing the mixed simulation at different levels of abstraction, allows to validate both the circuit design and the overall system conversion. Using a multi-feedback architecture associated with a multi-bit quantizer, the continuous-time Bandpass Delta-Sigma converter achieves a SNR of about 76 dB in a wide band of 20MHz.

Late Quaternary Louisiana Shelf-Margin Deltaic Deposition, North-Central Gulf of MexicoMobley, Casey 20 May 2005 (has links)
This study aims to establish a depositional framework for an area of the Louisiana shelf, north-central Gulf of Mexico. The depositional history of the study area is poorly understood, especially within the last cycle of major eustatic fluctuation (~18, 000 yrs BP – present). Data sets used in this study include pre-existing and previously unanalyzed two-dimensional, highresolution seismic profile records (Acadiana 86 and Acadiana 89), geotechnical foundation boring data (Coleman and Roberts, 1988a), and an industry lease block survey report (Cole, 1983). Seismic sequence stratigraphic methods are employed in this study to analyze seismic profile data. Seismic sequence analysis results indicate the presence of five unconformable surfaces and five seismic facies units. Through correlation of seismic profile data with lithologic and chronologic data, it is possible to conclude that these seismic facies units represent shelf-margin deltaic deposition during the last lowstand of sea level (~18, 000 yrs BP), sourced by the Pearl River. .

The aim of this PhD thesis was to better understand the boron delta-doping of diamond over building a new Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition reactor prototype. We succeed to grow step by step heavy on low, and more original, low on heavy boron-doped layers of (100)-oriented diamond in the same process and without stopping the plasma. We also settled growth parameters for a growth rate slow enough to get nanometre-thick homoepitaxial films with boron doping jumps over several orders of magnitude, called delta-doping. We demonstrated the presence of super-sharp interfaces, after optimized in situ etching, by joint Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscopy at High-Angle Annular Dark Field analysis. Finally superlattices with abrupt boron doping levels have been grown; they show satellite peaks of X-ray diffraction representative of a super-period.

Dynamique des environnements fluvio-lagunaires du Narbonnais à l'Holocène (Golfe du Lion, France) / Holocene fluvio-lagoonal environments of Narbonne coast (Gulf of Lion, France)Salel, Tiphaine 13 December 2018 (has links)
The present day Aude valley’s coastal landscape is the result of unstable lagoonal and deltaic environments during the last millennia. The understanding of past environmental dynamics is a key issue of the local ar-chaeological research, because since the Neolithic period human beings have settled in this area. This work aims to identify and explain the fluvio-lagoonal landscape’s evolution in the Narbonne region during the Holocene by using sedimentology, micropalaeontology and radiocarbon sediment datations. First, we analysed the present ostracods spatial distribution in modern lagoons and river mouths in order to use this microfauna as a bioindicator of past environmental conditions in the study area. Various aquatic envi-ronments (60) from the NW Mediterranean coastline were studied. The present ostracod assemblages characterize different stages of isolation, from completely closed lagoons to widely open marine bays, as well as intra-lagoonal environmental variability in relation to the inlets and river mouth proximities. The proposed database can be used to reconstruct coastal geomorphologies and dynamics, such as the holocene evolution of delta and barrier-lagoon systems in the Gulf of Lion. Second, sedimentary recording studies have been used to analyse the Narbonne’s coastal evolution. This study is based on nine cores distributed over the southern and eastern deltaic branches of the Aude river. With theses results, it is possible to propose a palaeogeographic scenario associated with the environmental dynamics of the lower valley since 9500 years cal. BP. This same data informs us about the local context of the Holocene sea level rise during the 9500-6000 years cal. BP. Several issues are discussed such as : the Holocene’s transgressions of the Gulf of Lion’s lagoons, the extreme marine event near the bay head delta around 5200-5000 years cal. BP, and the Aude delta’s rapid progradation during the last millennium. Additionally, we identified two periods of lead enrichment; which are consistent with the major mining peaks known in Languedoc (beginning of the first century AD - beginning of the classical Middle ages) and suggest a record of fluctuating metallurgical activity.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a Beta Herpes virus, is considered as a paradigm for viral evasion. It is an important opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised patients and a major cause of congenital birth defects when acquired in utero. CMV encodes molecules to prevent antigen presentation to αβ T cells through inhibition of MHC Class I expression and to suppress NK cell functions by mimicking or down-regulating ligands of NK receptors (NKR). These evasion mechanisms are not expected to affect γδ T cells and, as a matter of fact, their response to CMV has been widely reported in many different physiopathological contexts as well as in CMV-seropositive healthy donors (Dechanet et al, 1999)( Scheper, 2013). Our aim was to understand how CMV induce γδ T cell response. We used recombinant adenoviruses expressing each of the four US genes, and a mutant HCMV deleted for these 4 genes (CMV-DUS). We observed an induction of HLA-I expression by the control adenovirus, and an inhibition by US2, US3 and US11. When using CMV-DUS, infected cells expressed much more native HLA-I than CMV-WT infected cells. Interestingly and in sharp contrast to αβ T cells, γδ T cell were activated to produce IFNg when cultured with fibroblasts infected with CMV-WT, but not when fibroblasts were infected with CMV-DUS. These results indicate that HLA-I molecules regulate γδ T cells through mechanisms that are under investigation in our team. The immune escape processes developed by CMV could thus promote γδ over αβ T cell response and explain the important response of γδ T cells to the virus in immunosuppressed individuals.

Genesis and organic matter chemistry of sombric horizons in subtropical soils (Paraná State, Brazil) / Gênese e química da matéria orgânica de horizontes sômbricos em solos subtropicais (Paraná, Brasil)Chiapini, Mariane 31 January 2017 (has links)
Soil organic matter (SOM) plays an important role in the global carbon cycle. Therefore, it is important to understand the stability of SOM, which is related to several processes. Its intrinsic properties may be related to its stability, for example black carbon is considered to be relatively resistant to degradation. In most soils, the dark horizons coincide with the superficial layers or horizons due to the greater accumulation of organic matter, but in the southern states of Brazil, the presence of soils with dark subsurface horizons is frequently observed. The dark subsurface horizon of these soils are similar to a sombric horizon. Aspects about its origin, formation and preservation have not yet been fully elucidated. The objective of this work is to understand the formation of \'sombric\' horizons in soils of the region from Tijucas do Sul (Paraná, Brazil). Five soil profiles were described and collected, from which three originate from a toposequence and contained a \'sombric\' horizon (P1-P3), a reference soil that is representative of the area (P5) and an intermediate soil (P4) that showed morphology between the reference soil and the soils with a \'sombric\' horizon. To this end SOM is studied for its molecular composition by the pyrolysis technique coupled to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (pyrolysis-GC-MS). In addition, 13C isotopic composition (δ13C) and phytolytic composition were studied in order to understand paleoclimatic conditions. These results will be related to past environmental conditions using 14C dating techniques, and supported by classical soil analysis. The samples of the horizons were submitted to the SOM chemical fractionation, generating two fractions: extractable fraction with NaOH (EXT) and residue (RES). The morphology of the profiles showed an intense biological activity in A horizons and a wide distribution of microfragments of charcoals. The lateral continuity of \'sombric\' horizons in toposequence soils was also observed, which differentiated them (P1-P3) from buried A horizons. The distribution of SOM in the fractions studied was the same for the five profiles studied: EXT> RES. Products related to wildfires such as polyaromatics (PAHs; BC) were found in all profiles, but in greater relative abundance in the \'sombric\' horizons, indicating a higher incidence of fire during the formation of these horizons and these compounds can be related to the maintenance of dark color of the \'sombric\' horizons. In relation to the paleoclimatic conditions it was observed that the dark subsurface horizons were developed during the Mid-Holocene under vegetation composed mainly by C4 grasses with shrubs, evidencing a drier climate corresponding to a higher fire incidence.

Dinâmica da desembocadura lagunar de Cananéia, litoral sul do estado de São Paulo / The dynamics of Cananéia inlet, south coast of São PauloAmbrosio, Bruna Garcia 23 August 2016 (has links)
A dinâmica sedimentar reflete a complexidade deste ambiente. / Inlets are dynamic and complex coastal systems subjected to a variety of forces such as tidal range, wave energy and fluvial discharge. Combinations of these variables produce unique hydrodynamic conditions and a variety of depositional features. These systems, consisting of a main channel and tidal deltas, have strong influence on the evolution of the coastal zone. The aim of this study is to evaluate the dynamics of the Cananéia inlet in order to understand the processes that control the morphological changes in the region, considering the influence of its ebb-tidal delta morphology. Based on aerial photographs and historical nautical charts the morphological changes of the inlet and delta were analyzed over the last decades. Subsequently, the MIKE 21 numerical model was applied to simulate the wave propagation, the hydrodynamics and sediment transport in the region, for two different bathymetric situations and several wave scenarios. Therefore, we used in situ data, global model results (WW3 and CFSR) and information from the literature. Results show changes in the morphology of the inlet with the predominance of erosion on its northern margin, the migration of the channel and delta northeasterly, and the delta volume increase and its growth towards the ocean. Furthermore, it was noted that the northern margin is exposed to greater wave power and on both margins the wave power decreased over the analyzed period. The results show the action of the ebb tidal delta as the main transforming agent of the incoming waves and its morphological variation determines the action of the waves on the margins of the channel. The circulation is controlled predominantly by the tide and the sediment transport, although limited, is increased under the synergistic effect between the action of waves and tide. Due to its morphology and hydrodynamics, the northern margin is subjected to greater influence of waves and tide, resulting in erosional processes. The sediment dynamics reflects the complexity of this environment.

The overall second-order analysis of buildings is essential nowadays, in which the structures are each time more slender. In the market, there are several computer systems that perform this analysis, and some new structural engineers can not know the concepts on which it rests. Therefore, this study aims: to evaluate the second-order effects in buildings making use of the coefficients \'gama\'z and FAVt, this developed by TQS, and using P-Delta process; to show how this P-Delta process works and how the computer system CAD/TQS considers it; and also analyze the second order efforts obtained from the first-order ones multiplied by O,95 \'gama\'z. Regarding the evaluation of overall stability, will be compared the results obtained with the parameters \'alfa\', \'gama\'z, FAVt, and RM2M1, the latter generated from the P-Delta process. It is intended, therefore, to provide subsidies for new engineers to be able to work with well-founded conceptual base, both in the choice of method and analysis of results.

Decomposição de diferentes doses de palhada de cana-de-açúcar e seu efeito sobre o carbono do solo / Decomposition of different amounts of sugarcane trash and its effect in soil carbonSousa Junior, José Geraldo de Abreu 31 March 2015 (has links)
The objective of this research was to evaluate the decomposition of different initial quantities of sugarcane trash placed onto the soil under different management practices and determine the total organic carbon (TOC) accumulation in this soil over three years sugarcane cycle. Therefore, three experiments were installed in sugarcane area at Piracicaba. In experiment 1, different amounts of sugarcane trash (3.5, 7; 14 and 21 Mg ha-1) were placed between the rows, above the soil. Two additional treatments were installed with 14 Mg ha-1 dose: or incorporated into the soil or irrigated with vinasse. The dry matter losses and the composition of remaining sugarcane trash were evaluated six times over a year. In experiment 2, using the same previous treatments, lysimeters were installed to collect soil solution and to determine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) at 0.20 and 0.50 m depth. Experiment 3 was settled to determine the Carbon (C) derived from the different doses of deposited sugarcane trash. The C input derived from the straw doses after three years was detected replacing the original soil at sugarcane inter-row by a soil from an adjacent area not cultivated with sugarcane for at least 25 years, presenting a low delta 13C (?13C). This isotope technique was used to determine and quantify the origin of soil C input, after the treatments applied over the years. Results of this study suggest that one year after the deposition of the trash on soil, the higher doses (14 and 21 Mg ha-1) lost about 65% dry matter, a rate up to 24-39% higher than the lower doses (7 and 3.5 Mg ha-1 respectively). The 14 Mg ha-1 dose, when incorporated, accelerated this process, resulting in a total breakdown of 86%. However, vinasse irrigation did not favored this process. Regarding the composition of the remaining trash, the treatments of 14 Mg ha-1 incorporated to soil and the 21 Mg ha-1 resulted in the most significant increase in lignocellulosic index. The DOC monitoring at 0.5 m depth over 120 days in the rainy season detected the presence of C only during the initial 45 days of straw decomposition. The percentage of DOC available from sugarcane trash was inversely proportional to the decomposition rate. Carbon accumulation in the soil over 3 years, related to different amounts of sugarcane trash, showed a significant increase of 80% to 97% in TOC concentrations in the upper 2.5cm soil layer where the doses of 14 and 21 Mg ha-1 of trash were applied, respectively

Variabilidade espaço-temporal da morfologia costeira: resultados de sensoriamento remoto / Space-time variability of coastal morphology: results from vídeo remote sensingBarroso, Cássia Pianca 30 June 2014 (has links)
The ability to predict changes of the coastal morphology has been restricted by the lack of observational data in a sufficient spatial and temporal coverage. With the advent of remote sensing, the low spatial and temporal resolution could be overcome, especially with the development of video cameras to study nearshore environments. The goals of this thesis are, using remote sensing techniques, to (1) develop a robust method for extracting shoreline locations; (2) analyze a unique 16 and 26-year record of daily to hourly video images; (3) characterize the space-time scales of shoreline variability at a representative site at Duck, NC; (4) test this method at a reflective and cuspy beach at Massaguaçu Beach located at Brazilian coast; (5) describe recent observations of meso-scales morphology associated with tidal inlets using an innovative optical method and document rates and patterns of migration of these features at New River Inlet, NC. A model was developed, called ASLIM (Augmented ShoreLine Intensity Maxima) to extract the shoreline positions based on fitting the band of high light intensity in time exposure images to a local Gaussian fit with a subsequent Kalman filter to reduce noise and uncertainty. The ASLIM model showed good agreement with survey data (correlation coefficient of 0.85, significant at 95\\% confidence level). Wave forcing was characterized in terms of the significant wave height and the cross-shore and longshore components of wave energy flux. 66\\% of the shoreline variability was explained by periods longer than the annual cycle, despite the fact that wave forcing is dominated by shorter periods. The first EOF mode of shoreline variability contained 49\\% of the variance and represented the cross-shore movement (landward- seaward) of the shoreline. The second mode (26\\% of the variance) is associated with alternating accretion signals on either side of the pier, while the next two higher EOFs (7\\% and 5.6\\%) describe the local pier effects. The pier was found to have a significant influence on shoreline behavior that extends out to 500 meters, nearly twice the length scales assumed by previous studies. The pier restricts seasonal longshore transport from the south (summer) and north (winter) sides, resulting in a seasonally-reversing sediment accumulation on the up-drift side. Erosion signals on the down-drift side of the pier were found propagate away from the pier at 1200 m/year. A shoreline erosion trend that was found only on the north side of the pier may be related to the trend found in the alongshore transport, that it is increasing toward the north and is being blocked by the pier. The ASLIM method was also tested at Massaguaçu Beach and showed to be a valuable tool to investigate shoreline variability processes. Our observations, at New Rivet Inlet (NC), revealed a complex set of swash bars and meso-scale sand banks that migrated in a coherent clockwise pattern with movement in offshore regions being away from the inlet mouth while nearshore migration was back toward the inlet. To quantify migration rates and patterns objectively based on sequences of time exposure images, a Lagged Least Squares Algorithm (LLSA) was developed that found the vector migration rate for which the suite of lagged images were most similar, computed on a tile-by-tile basis. The mean migration rate was found to be 1.53 m/day (standard deviation of 0.76 m/day). 72\\% percent of estimated rates were greater than 1.0 m/day, 31\\% percent were larger than 2.0 m/day, and the maximum rate round was 3.5 m/day, averaged over 23 days. Alongshore averages of cross-shore migration rates showed a node at 110 m from the shoreline that separates migration away from the inlet (offshore) from migration toward the inlet near the shore. The circular pattern of migration appeared to be consistent with expected residual flow on an ebb delta. In conclusion, our results showed that the use of video cameras are a useful tool for providing information about the dynamics of coastal morphologies with a high temporal and spatial resolution, from short to long-term.
