Contralateral Limb Assessment: Novel Perspectives from Danish CPOs in Diabetic Care : An exploratory qualitative studyGregersen, Una, Heick, Emilie January 2024 (has links)
Background: The number of people with diabetes is rising globally, and they are at higher risk of foot complications that can ultimately result in lower limb amputation. Additionally, individuals with diabetes whoundergo amputation are more likely to lose the contralateral limb. Consistent care and preventive measuresare crucial for reducing the risk of further amputations. Aim: This study aims to explore the current experience of certified prosthetist and orthotist in Denmarkconcerning the assessment of the contralateral limb in individuals with diabetes who utilize a lower limbprosthesis. Method: A qualitative study with an exploratory research design was conducted. Thematic analysis, using aninductive approach was employed to analyze data from eight semi-structured interviews with CPOs from Denmark. Findings: The analysis of the interview results revealed three main themes - responsibility, prioritization, and barriers - which frequently overlap. Each theme had multiple sub-themes which highlights the variationin the participants’ experiences. Conclusion: The variation in responses gathered from the interviews unveiled diverse perspectives on responsibility, prioritization, and barriers which points to a lack of clear guidelines in the Danish healthcaresystem regarding this assessment of the contralateral limb in this patient group. This study offers novel insightsinto the diverse experiences and decision-making processes of Danish CPOs when it comes to the contralaterallimb assessment in diabetic foot care. /

Cyclopropanes are important subunits because of their presence in numerous bioactive natural products and synthetic molecules as well as synthetic intermediates. In this work we have investigated the stereoselective halocyclopropanation of allylic alcohols using a dioxaborolane-type stoichiometric chiral ligand and substituted zinc carbenoids derived from organozinc compounds and haloforms. We have thus developed conditions for the stereoselective iodo-, chloro- and fluorocyclopropanation reactions. A mechanistic study on the nature of alpha-chloro and alpha-bromomethylzinc carbenoids has revealed that halogen scrambling is taking place in the case of these carbenoids. During the chlorocyclopropanation reaction, the most reactive carbenoid (alpha-chloromethyl zinc) reacts predominantly, in line with the Curtin-Hammet principle. The enantioenriched iodocyclopropanes have been functionalized through a lithium-iodine exchange followed by treatment with electrophiles or transmetallation to zinc and Negishi cross-coupling. Therefore, a wide array of enantioenriched 1,2,3-substituted cyclopropanes have been synthesized using these methods.
In order to develop new methodologies for the functionalization of cyclopropanes, we have studied the Hiyama-Denmark cross-coupling of cyclopropylsilanols. In this approach, the silanol group bears two functions: it serves as a proximal basic group in the Simmons-Smith cyclopropanation and it is involved in the transmetallation event during the cross-coupling reaction. In the cross-coupling step, the nature of the ligands bound to the silicon atom is crucial to the efficiency of the reaction. Hence, the in situ formation of the cyclopropyltrifluorosilane via a ligand exchange with boron trifluoride etherate is required for good yields.
The final chapter of this work is on the nickel-catalyzed cyclization of alkyl iodides via a homolytic aromatic substitution mechanism. A series of tetrahydronaphthalene and thiochroman related compounds have been synthesized using this methodology. A mechanistic study has confirmed the radical nature of this reaction and strongly suggests the catalytic role of nickel. DOSY NMR spectrometric investigations have demonstrated an association between substrate, the base employed in this reaction and the nickel complex.

Dánsko - Československo 1947-1957, Umění a architektura za hranicemi funkcionalismu, surrealismu a Bauhausu / Denmark - Czechoslovakia 1947-1957, The Art and Architecture Beyond Functionalism, Surrealism and BauhausIštok, Radoslav January 2014 (has links)
! The thesis is exploring art and architecture in Denmark and Czechoslovakia in the period 1947-1957. The main interest was to see how the interwar avant-garde movements such as Functionalism and Surrealism, as well as the legacy of Bauhaus, developed after the WWII. Yet, Functionalism and Surrealism can also be seen not only as mere artistic styles but as two different attitudes towards life, Rational and Romantic respectively. The latter, which is a passionate protest against the status quo, can especially in its revolutionary or utopian dimension serve as a form of engagement free of the simplifying Cold War binaries.

La Grande-Bretagne, le Nord et la Baltique du milieu du XIXe siècle jusqu'à la Première Guerre mondiale : des relations et un regard en évolution / Britain, the North and the Baltic from the mid-nineteenth century until the First World War : an evolving relationship and perceptionBlanc, Philippe 02 December 2016 (has links)
By the middle of the 19th century, the Baltic area is regarded by the British as a far-off, underdeveloped periphery, although there exist privileged relationships linked to the romantic attraction of Scandinavia, the economic importance of the region as supplier of essential raw materials and its geographical location in the vicinity of the Russian rival of the Great Game. Considering this special link, the socio-economic potential of the Nordic countries, and the necessity to multiply Britain’s commercial outlets, the various British actors hope, after the advent of liberalism, to participate in the region’s development, and even benefit from it at economic level. Yet, if, during the second half of the nineteenth century, many British merchants, entrepreneurs, capitalists or engineers do take an active part in the takeoff and modernisation of the Baltic regions, diplomatic and economic developments, whose main features are a rising Germany, more stable relations with Russia, and a stubbornly negative trade balance, lead Britain to continually reconsider its regional role until the international tensions of the early twentieth century.

Neutres face à la guerre franco-allemande (1870-1871) ? : diplomatie et dynamiques d'opinions dans les Etats de Suisse, de Belgique et du Danemark / Neutral during the Franco-German War (1870-1871) ? : diplomacy and opinions' dynamics in Switzerland, Belgium and DenmarkVogt, Gilles 04 May 2018 (has links)
Noting the cross-border nature of the political and cultural challenges raised by the Franco-German War of 1870-1871, this doctoral thesis proposes to question the experience of neutrality within the societies of three States – Denmark, Switzerland and Belgium – chosen for their complementarity in terms of strategy, geography, institutions and constitutional organisation. Diplomatic documents, administrative archives, newspapers, publications, artistic works, letters and private documentation serve a transnational study divided into three main directions. The first direction reveals the technical and technological environment in which neutrals operate, the feelings betrayed by their testimonies and their efforts to become and remain non-belligerent. The second direction interrogates the involvement of the neutrals during the war through – among others – the trajectories of philanthropists and volunteer soldiers. The third orientation poses a seemingly paradoxical question: is the neutral a victor or a vanquished of the war of 1870-1871 ?

Trade unions and the media : exercising and revitalising power after the financial crisis of 2008Geelan, Torsten Karl Rosenvold January 2017 (has links)
The Great Recession that followed the financial crisis of 2008 had a devastating impact on workers, leading to high levels of unemployment and underemployment, increased job insecurity and stagnant or declining wages. While the legitimation crisis of neoliberalism could be viewed as a turning point for labour internationally, the immediate response by political parties across the spectrum was one of austerity measures and cuts to welfare. As the largest collective representatives of workers, trade unions are at the forefront of mobilisations attempting to challenge this consensus. Simultaneously, they are engaging in new activities to enhance public awareness and understanding of the crucial role that trade unions play in the labour market. Thus, the 21st century crisis is creating both challenges and opportunities. Each trade union movement’s response depends on the different forms of power they possess and choose to deploy, their strategies and allegiances, and the specific socio-economic and political context in which they are situated. Questions concerning what constitutes union power and the ways in which it is being exercised and revitalized therefore represent fascinating lines of enquiry to explore. To do so, however, requires a new perspective on trade union power that recognises the significance of the media which has been overlooked in industrial relations theory. Drawing on insights from industrial relations, the sociology of media and social movement studies, this thesis proposes the concept of communicative power to trace how trade unions produce and circulate discourse through the media (either union-owned or corporate) to a mass audience. Methodologically, it uses the tripartite approach which focuses our attention onto three key communication processes involved in trade union attempts to exercise communicative power: the production of union discourse, the circulation of union discourse, and the reception of union discourse. This is applied to four cases involving seven union organisations in the UK and Denmark over a five-year period 2010-2015. Data was gathered using 40 semi-structured interviews with union officials and activists, content analysis of newspapers, union media outlets and social media, and secondary survey data. In sum, this thesis argues that the media is, and always has been, central to how trade unions exercise and revitalize power in society. And within the context of accelerating digital capitalism, it looks set to becoming an increasingly important determinant of their future trajectory.
