Changan Traveler : A Premium Service for Tomorrow

Schäfer, Robert January 2020 (has links)
The idea for the vehicle was inspired by an interest in creating a tranportation possiblity with an advanced design. The author had the fortunate opportunity to carry out an exam project at the automobile company Changan whose design department is in Turin, Italy. Changan produces almost exclusively passenger vehicles for the Asian market. The Asian auto user has shown a great interest in premium and personalised luxury qualities and at the same time demands unique safety aspects. As a result the author was inspired to design a vehicle which combined both aspects in a unique passenger vehicle for the future. Because of the masstransit situation in mega-cities the author felt inspired to test a new highway infrastructure possiblity in the conception of the vehicle design, the tunnel system. Classical hand drawings together with digital ideation drawing and 3D software models were the tools implemented for the design process. The work process was not linear starting with hand drawings and ending in complex computer models but took on a laborious path doubling back on and reworking all the different creative routes in a method which culminated in an end product. The end result is the Traveler, a shared auto service for two for 2050, a unique expansion on Changan´s historical production of passenger vehicles. The automoble is conceived as a two-compartment passenger transport option. Its size allows for different rider experiences: work, relaxation and entertainment while on the go. Because the passenger is in her/his own „room" there is a guaranty for complete privacy and ultimate safety from outside influence.

Made to mend : Exploring alternative ideals and norms in textile design through the concept of repair

Ax, Hannah January 2018 (has links)
This project explores alternative ideals and norms in textile design, using repair as a design parameter. Facing the age of the Anthropocene, the work aims to investigate how repair can be integrated into the design process in order to deal with the Earth’s scarce material resources. By formulating an alternative design method around a concept of repair, this project investigates a holistic way of developing textiles. The result is a design method, supported by a collection of three design examples. By exploring alternative methods for conducting textiles, this project aims to force new ideals and norms within the textile design field.

Comfortable Vehicle Surfaces : A Master Thesis on the Comfort Experience of Interior Vehicle Surfaces

Mellqvist, Anna, Vicini, Simon January 2022 (has links)
This thesis was conducted to explore and try to understand the area of comfort within cars with an emphasize on interior surfaces. Research within comfort has been focused on the consequences of moving mechanical parts and not on the user experience of the interior cabin design. A user-centered approach has been implemented to focus on those who are experiencing comfort. Two extensive-user tests have been conducted to investigate the perception of surface material and the combination of radiuses and paddings against three body parts. The results have then been statistically analyzed in combination with a qualitative analysis. It has been found that comfort is hard to define, but many participants, scholars, and designers agree that comfort induces a feeling of relaxation and pleasantness. The user tests have also investigated how the tactile and visual senses affect the perceived pleasantness of a surface material, where the results differ depending on the material. However, both senses need to be considered when designing for comfort. Comfort is considered important to achieve satisfied users, which implies that the evaluation of comfort should be implemented as an essential part of the design process.

Ett reält lyft för däckmontörer : Ett hjälpmedel framtaget utifrån ett användarperspektiv

Göthberg, Jacob January 2021 (has links)

Use it, break it, fix it and repeat : Designa cirkulärt och renoveringsbart / Use it, break it, fix it and repeat : Circular and refurbishable design

Tyrbo Flodström, Tobias January 2020 (has links)
This work is a study in how the design process is affected by the goal of creating refurbishable and circular design. The work has resulted in three pieces of furniture made with the possibility of renovation. This was done with the help of guidelines that could be put into place after accumulated knowledge of circular design, interviews with three companies in the Swedish furniture industry and craftsmen in carpentry, wallpaper and furniture preservation. We as designers have a responsibility for what comes out in the world and how it affects the environment, people and the future we will live in. We train ourselves to educate others with our design.

Living with Fire : How can we live with and contain wildland fires in the age of the pyrocene?

Thaddäus Pfuner, Elias January 2020 (has links)
Wildland fires are a natural process from nature. Even though they are natural, humans inherently fear them and started to suppress them until recent years successfully. More and more countries are seeing unprecedented fires all around the globe. Emergency response agencies are struggling to keep up with wild and forest fire response due to significant and fast-spreading fires. During the research phase, I not only conducted interviews with people who have experienced wildfires but also experts from the frontlines. Also, I made a scan of the literature to find valuable studies regarding this topic. I discovered that the current wildfire problem is deeply rooted in the social aspect of how we, as humans, are placing us above nature. Nature needs wildfires and forest fires to have healthy forest ecosystems. Sadly humans have been suppressing wildfires for the last decades that lead to the fact that we created a bigger problem than before. This project is set right in the center of this change. It challenges the paradigm of how we interact with wildfire so we as a society can move from having a war with fire to living with fire. I used design fiction and speculative design methods to visualize this systemic change and give it a platform of provocation for good. The project describes a future in which humans are in coexistence with wildfires and are part of the ecosystem again. During the world-building process, to probe and verify ideas with experts and wildfire survivors, different creative methods have been used. All the factors which are influencing the preferable future and outcome are built upon findings from the research phase and repeated interviews I conducted during the project. The year of the created preferable future is 2025, when the world experienced massive wildfires and has arrived in the pyrocence. In this preferable future, the introduction of a new season happened: the 5th season - fire season. The outcome is a proposal for how FireGuardians are conducting their work and what tools they are using. It displays a new uniform, a soft robotic enhanced exosuit, and an advanced information system to plan and coordinate large-scale prescribed burns.
