Revisão sistemática, tafonomia, distribuição geográfica e estratigráfica da classe Tentaculitoidea no Devoniano brasileiro / Systematic review, taphonomy, geographic and stratigraphic distribution of Tentaculitoidea class in Brazilian Devonian.

Os tentaculitoideos são invertebrados marinhos extintos comumente encontrados nos estratos devonianos brasileiros. São reconhecidos pelo formato da concha coniforme carbonática com pequenas dimensões. Na América do Sul, o registro dos primeiros tentaculitoideos ocorreu durante o início do Siluriano, com o gênero Tentaculites. Representantes das ordens Dacryoconarida e Homoctenida foram encontrados a partir do Devoniano Inferior. No Brasil o grupo possui registro nas bacias do Paraná (Formações Ponta Grossa e São Domingos), Amazonas (Formações Maecuru e Ererê) e Parnaíba (Formação Cabeças). As análises sistemáticas demonstraram a presença dos gêneros Tentaculites e Styliolina (foram constatados nas Bacias do Amazonas, Paraná e Parnaíba) e Uniconus e Homoctenus (registro apenas para a Bacia do Paraná). Foram reconhecidos 8 representantes da ordem Tentaculitida, 2 da ordem Homoctenida e 2 dacryoconarídeos. As espécies Tentaculites crotalinus, Tentaculites jaculus, Tentaculites kozlowskius, Tentaculites paranaensis, Uniconus ciguelius, Homoctenus katzerius e Styliolina cf. Styliolina fissurella foram encontradas na Bacia do Paraná. Já as espécies Tentaculites eldredgianus, Tentaculites trombetensis e Styliolina clavulus encontradas nas Bacias do Amazonas e do Parnaíba. Enquanto que a espécie Tentaculites stubeli somente registrada para a Bacia do Amazonas e Tentaculites oseryi apenas para a Bacia do Parnaíba. Nas bacias do Amazonas e do Parnaíba só existe registro das ordens Tentaculitida e Dacryoconarida. Verificaram-se dois padrões de preservação: espécimes isolados e agrupados, desses padrões foram estabelecidas 6 classes tafonômicas, as quais foram distribuídas de acordo com a paleobatimetria, foram registradas em ambientes de shoreface, offshore transicional e offshore. Foi observado que os tentaculitoideos do Devoniano da Bacia do Paraná possuem uma preferência por ambientes mais calmos, localizados entre o Nível de Base de Tempo Bom (NBOTB) e o Nível de Base de Tempestade (NBOT). As classes analisadas encontram-se distribuídas entre as sequências B e E do Devoniano da Bacia do Paraná. Não foram encontradas feições bioestratinômicas como incrustação e predação. As análises com Espectroscopia de Energia Dispersiva (MEV-EDS) e Energia Dispersiva de Fluorescência de Raios-X (EDXRF) evidenciaram a presença de crômio e pirita nas amostras, características de ambientes anóxicos, corroborando com a hipótese que a extinção da classe esteja relacionada a uma grande extinção global. / The Tentaculitoidea are extinct invertebrates, exclusively marine, commonly found in Brazilian Devonian strata. They are recognized by the conic shell shape, this being, carbonate with small dimensions. In South America, the record of the first tentaculitoideos occurred during the early Silurian, with Tentaculites genus. Representatives of Dacryoconarida and Homoctenida orders were found from the Lower Devonian. In Brazil, the group is registered in the Paraná basins (Ponta Grossa and São Domingo Formations), Amazonas (Maecuru and Ererê Formations) and Parnaíba (Cabeças Formation). Systematic analysis showed the presence of Tentaculites and Styliolina genus (were found in the Amazon, Paraná and Parnaíba Basin) Uniconus and Homoctenus (registration only for the Paraná Basin). Were registered 8 representatives of Tentaculitida order, 2 Homoctenida order and 2 dacryoconarídeos. The species Tentaculites crotalinus, Tentaculites jaculus, Tentaculites kozlowskius, Tentaculites paranaensis, Uniconus ciguelius, Homoctenus katzerius e Styliolina cf. Styliolina fissurella were found in the Paraná Basin. Already species Tentaculites eldredgianus, Tentaculites trombetensis and Styliolina clavulus found in the Amazonas and Parnaíba Basin. While Tentaculites stubeli only recorded for the Amazonas Basin and Tentaculites oseryi only for the Parnaíba Basin. In the Amazonas and Parnaíba basins exists only record of Tentaculitida and Dacryoconarida orders. Two preservation patterns were observed: isolated and grouped specimens. Were established 6 Taphonomic classes, which were distributed according to paleobathymetry were recorded in shoreface environments, offshore transitional and offshore. It was observed that the Tentaculitoidea of the Paraná Basin have a preference for quieter environments, located between the Fair Weather Wave-Base (FWWB) and Storm Wave-Base (SWB). The analyzed classes are distributed among the sequences B and E in the Devonian of the Paraná Basin. There were no biostratinomy features as incrustation and predation. The analysis with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and Energy Dispersive Fluorescence X-rays (EDXRF) revealed the presence of chromium and pyrite in the samples, characteristic of anoxic environments, supporting the hypothesis that the extinction of the class is related a major global extinction.

The objective is to provide a description and interpretation of the above mentioned outcrop, as well as the inclusion of its layers in stratigraphic framework of the sequence. In order to obtain more accurate data, the methodology used to collect data was of taphonomic high-resolution. The fauna here considered is a typical representative of the Malvinokaffric Realm and occurs distinctly along the Curva II outcrop. Three different taphocenosis representing different sedimentary environments have been identified. The data obtained in this study were integrated into the areas of occurrence of fossiliferous outcrops adjacent to Curva II. A combined analysis of the taphonomic, paleontological and stratigraphic aspects, followed by a reinterpretation of the outcrops in northeastern urban area of Ponta Grossa, inserts the Curva II outcrop above sections of the UEPG Campus, as well as Francelina I, II and III and below sections of Curva I and Franco da Rocha, which are representatives of a transgressive process, in a situation of sedimentary retrogradation which occurred in the passage Neopraghiano/Eoemsiano in the Ponta Grossa Formation, filling, thus, a gap in the stratigraphic sequence of the base of sequence B. / Na presente pesquisa buscou-se a análise estratigráfica e tafonômica das camadas basais da Sequência B (Neopraguiano/Eoemsiano), Formação Ponta Grossa, com enfoque no afloramento Curva II, Ponta Grossa, Paraná, que até então não havia sido estudado sob estes aspectos. Objetivou-se a descrição e interpretação do afloramento citado bem como a inserção de suas camadas no arcabouço estratigráfico de sequências. Com o intuito de se obter dados mais precisos, utilizou-se metodologia de coleta de alta resolução tafonômica. A fauna aqui analisada é representante típica do Domínio Malvinocáfrico e ocorre distintamente ao longo do afloramento Curva II tendo sido identificadas três diferentes tafocenoses que representam distintos ambientes de sedimentação. Os dados obtidos nesta pesquisa foram integrados aos de áreas de ocorrência fossilífera adjacentes ao afloramento Curva II. Com uma análise conjunta entre os aspectos tafonômicos, paleontológicos e estratigráficos e após uma reinterpretação dos afloramentos da região nordeste do perímetro urbano de Ponta Grossa, insere-se o afloramento Curva II acima das seções Campus UEPG e Francelina I, II e III e abaixo das seções Curva I e Franco da Rocha, sendo representantes de um processo transgressivo, em situação de retrogradação sedimentar ocorrida na passagem Neo-praguiano/Eo-emsiano da Formação Ponta Grossa, preenchendo, desta maneira, uma lacuna na coluna estratigráfica de sequências local da base da Sequência B.

Nesse estudo são revisados os trilobites da família Homalonotidae (Phacopida), Formação Ponta Grossa (Devoniano), do Estado do Paraná. No total, foram examinados 156 espécimes de homalonotídeos provenientes de rochas equivalentes, litoestratigraficamente, ao Membro Jaguariaíva (=Seqüência B), aflorantes nos municípios de Ponta Grossa, Tibagi e Jaguariaíva. Os dados obtidos permitem inferir que pelo menos duas espécies estão presentes, isso é: Digonus noticus e Burmeisteria herschelii. A espécie Digonus noticus é comum no Devoniano da África do Sul (Grupo Bokkeveld), Argentina (Formação Lipéon), Bolívia (formações Icla e Belén) e Brasil (formações Pimenteiras e Ponta Grossa). A espécie Burmeisteria herschelii ocorre comumente em rochas do Devoniano das Ilhas Malvinas (Formação Fox Bay), África do Sul (Grupo Bokkeveld) e Bolívia (formações Icla e Tarija), sendo pela primeira vez referida à fauna de trilobites da Formação Ponta Grossa, sub-bacia Apucarana. Esses dados indicam que a fauna de Homalonotidae da Formação Ponta Grossa não é monoespecífica, ou seja, composta apenas por Digonus noticus, conforme suposto anteriormente. Finalmente, os homalonotídeos não estão distribuídos aleatoriamente ao longo da Formação Ponta Grossa. Algumas espécies (Digonus noticus) viveram e/ou foram preservadas em fácies arenosas, geradas junto ou acima do nível de base de ondas de tempobom até fácies argilosas, depositadas abaixo do nível de base de ondas de tempestades. Já Burmeisteria herschelii apresenta distribuição batimétrica mais restrita, ocorrendo em depósitos gerados, preferencialmente, junto ao nível de base de ondas de tempo-bom. Em todos os casos, porém, trilobites homalonotídeos são mais abundantes nas fácies de águas mais rasas, depositadas acima do nível de base de ondas de tempestade, sendo potencialmente importantes indicadores paleoambientais. Em adição, a análise tafonômica de 412 espécimes de trilobites calmoniídeos, além dos homalonotídeos, da Formação Ponta Grossa revelou que algumas das espécies propostas são, ao que tudo indica, artificiais. Isso porque os caracteres morfológicos que as diagnosticam são produto dos processos de diagênese e intemperismo. Esse fato é particularmente evidente para as \"espécies\" que estão preservadas em diferentes litótipos ou tafofácies, ou seja, espécimes submetidos a distintos processos de fossilização (e.g., variação do grau de compactação da rocha). Para os trilobites calmoniídeos estudados, três são os principais caracteres morfológicos susceptíveis a modificações tafonômicas: a- forma e inflação do lobo glabelar, b- profundidade dos sulcos axiais e glabelares, e cpresença/ausência de ornamentação externa. Para os homalonotídeos, os seguintes caracteres morfológicos são susceptíveis de alteração: a- forma do lobo glabelar, e bpresença/ausência de ornamentação externa. Os dados obtidos reforçam a idéia de que a descrição de novas espécies de trilobites deva ser fundamentada em coleções científicas com numerosos exemplares, permitindo que o espectro de modificações tafonômicas decorrentes da fossilização em diferentes litótipos seja melhor onhecido. Esse procedimento diminui o risco de proposição de novos táxons, com base em caracteres que não têm origem biológica. Finalmente, é registrada aqui, pela primeira vez, no Devoniano do Brasil a espécie de calmoniídeo Metacryphaeus rotundatus (Kozlowski, 1923). Trata-se de uma espécie de ocorrência comum em rochas emsianas, da Formação Icla, da Bolívia. Embora no contexto do Domínio Malvinocáfrico, as afinidades paleobiogeográficas mais estreitas da fauna marinha sejam com as faunas das províncias Brasileira e Sul-africana, esse achado reforça outras evidências paleontológicas (e.g., conulários, trilobites homalonotídeos) indicativas da presença de elementos cosmopolitas, da Província Andina, nas assembléias fósseis do Devoniano da Bacia do Paraná. Tais formas viveram sob forte gradiente paleoclimático, desde clima temperado a temperado frio, até subpolar. Finalmente, no Devoniano paranaense, Metacryphaeus rotundatus ocupou, preferencialmente, fundos argilosos, ricos em matéria orgânica, depositados sob condições de águas plataformais, abaixo do nível de base de ondas de tempestades e indicativos de superfícies de inundação marinha, o que favoreceria a dispersão da espécie. / In the present study the Homalonotidae trilobites (Phacopida) from the Ponta Grossa Formation (Devonian), state of Paraná are revised. A total of 156 specimens, found in rocks of Jaguariaíva Member (=Sequence B), cropping-out at the Ponta Grossa, Tibagi and Jaguariaíva counties, were examined. Gathered data indicate that at least two species are present, Digonus noticus and Burmeisteria herschelii. Digonus noticus is a conspicuous element of the Devonian rocks of South Africa (Bokkeveld Group), Argentina (Lipéon Formation), Bolivia (Icla and Bélen formations), and Brazil (Pimenteiras and Ponta Grossa formations). Burmeisteria herschelii is common on Devonian rocks of Malvinas Island (Fox Bay Formation), South Africa (Bokkeveld Group), and Bolivia (Icla and Tarija formations), and were reported for the first time in the trilobitan fauna of the Ponta Grossa Formation, Apucarana Sub-basin. The results indicate that the Homalonotidae fauna of the Ponta Grossa Formation is not monospecific, that is, consisted only of D. noticus. Finally, homalonotids are not randomlly distributed along the Ponta Grossa Formation. Some species, (Digonus noticus) lived and/or were preserved in sedimentary deposits of sandy facies, generated just in and/or above the fair weather wave base, until muddy facies deposited below storm wave base. Others, such as Burmeisteria herschelii show a more restrict bathimetric distribution, that occurred preferentially at the fair weather wave base. In all these cases, homalonotids are most abundant in shallow water facies, deposited above storm wave base, being potentially an important paleoenviromental (neritic facies) indicator. In addition, based on the taphonomic analysis of 412 specimens of calmoniid, besides the homalonotid trilobites from the Ponta Grossa Formation, it is now clear that some species are artificial, since the morphological features that diagnose them are the product of fossilization and weathering. This is particularly true for those \"species\" that are preserved in different taphofacies, since they are submitted to distinct diagenetic processes (e.g., degree of compactation). For the studied calmoniid trilobites, three main morphological characters are susceptible to taphonomic modifications: a- variation in inflation of glabelar lobe, b- variation in lobe shape, depth of axial and glabelar furrows, and cpresence/absence of external ornamentation. For the homalonotids, the following morphological characters are susceptible to modifications: a- variation in glabelar lobe shape, and b- presence/absence of external ornamentation. Data presented here reinforce the idea that the erection of new trilobite species should be based on large scientific collections, enables the detection of taphonomic modifications. This procedure avoids the erection of new invalid taxa. Finally, the analyses of calmoniid trilobites from the Ponta Grossa Formation, cropping-out at the Tibagi and Jaguariaíva counties, indicate the presence of calmoniid specimens that are referable to Metacryphaeus rotundatus (Kozlowski, 1923). This is the first record of Metacryphaeus rotundatus in the Devonian of Brazil. Metacryphaeus rotundatus is a conspicuous species of the emsian rocks of the Icla Formation, Bolivia. Although there are similarities between the trilobitan fauna of Devonian Paraná Basin and others of Brazilian province and South African one, this finding is in accordance with new evidences (e.g., conulariids, homalonotids trilobites), indicating the presence of cosmopolitan species with Andean affinities. Metacryphaeus rotundatus lived in a broad paleoclimatic range, from temperate, cold temperate to subpolar climate. Finally, in the Devonian of Paraná Basin, Metacryphaeus rotundatus lived and were preserved in muddy, organic rich bottoms, deposited in offshore waters, below the storm wave base, associated to marine flooding surfaces, which may favor their geographic dispersion.

Depositional dynamics of a giant carbonate platform-the Famennian Palliser Formation of Western Canada

Carbonate platforms dominated by great thicknesses of ostensibly uniform, thick bedded, poorly fossiliferous and burrow-mottled, subtidal limestones are found throughout the Phanerozoic, yet are poorly understood. Deposited in the aftermath of the FrasnianFamennian extinction event, the Palliser/Wabamun Formation with a thickness of up to 600 m and an extent of about 600 000 km2 represents one of the largest of such platforms to have ever existed.<p>The architecture and palaeoenvironment of the western side of this epeiric platform is reconstructed based on lateral and vertical variations of microfacies properties. It can be divided into inner and outer ramp and shelf belts that remained submerged virtually throughout the life of the platform. A new subdivision of the Palliser Formation is proposed based on long-term vertical facies patterns in sections with differing facies reflecting relative sealevel dynamics. <p>Limestones of the Palliser Formation record a rather limited benthic community. The soft substrate and abundant bioturbation deterred the settlement of sedentary organisms. Frequent physical disturbance, including storms and bioturbation, augmented water turbidity causing smothering and destruction. For these reasons at least, reef growth was impeded. <p>Furthermore, within the apparent facies monotony, two thirds of non-skeletal grains are generated by obliteration processes. Microendolithic bioerosion and diminution destroyed a substantial proportion of the skeletal particles, mostly crinoids, resulting in small micritized grains. Pervasive bioerosion is linked to excess nutrient flux caused by perturbations to the regional biogeochemical cycle. The Ellesmerian Orogeny and increased colonization of land surfaces by deep-rooting gymnosperms are identified as the cause of mesotrophy. Early seafloor dissolution consumed a vast amount of aragonite skeletons, dasycladalean algae in particular, leaving ample amounts of micritic steinkerns, which in turn broke down into peloids and small intraclasts. These discoveries suggest that large areas of the giant ramp-shelf system were characterized by subtidal dasycladalean and crinoid meadows. Finally, established carbonate classifications are re-evaluated and a revised classification for allochthonous limestones for both outcrop and laboratory is introduced. Special emphasis is laid on clastmatrix relationships. <p>-----------------------------------------------<p> ZUSAMMENFASSUNG<br> Die Palliser/Wabamun Formation ist eine von zahlreichen phanerozoischen Karbonatplattformen, die sich durch große Mächtigkeiten vermeintlich monotoner, fossilarmer, bioturbierter Kalke auszeichnen. Diese 600 m mächtige Abfolge sedimentierte im Schatten des Aussterbeereignisses an der Frasne-Famenne Grenze über einen Zeitraum von 69 Ma. Sie gehört mit einer Ausdehnung von etwa 600.000 km2 zu einer der größten Plattformen dieser Art, die auf unserem Planeten entstanden. Mit Hilfe lateraler und vertikaler Trends mikrofazieller Parameter konnte das Ablagerungsmilieu und die Architektur das westlichen Teils dieser epikontinentalen Plattform rekonstruiert werden. Es werden innere und äußere Rampe und Schelf voneinander unterschieden, die praktisch durchgehend über die ganze Plattformentwicklung überflutet blieben. Die vorgestellte Neugliederung der Palliser Formation basiert auf langfristigen vertikalen Faziesmustern in Profilen mit unterschiedlicher Fazies. Faziesmuster spiegeln relative Meeresspiegelschwankungen wider. <p>Die Palliser Kalke sind durch einen eher eingeschränkten Benthos gekennzeichnet, wobei weiches Substrat und intensive Bioturbation die Besiedlung durch sesshafte Organismen erschwerten. Während häufige Bewegung, zum Beispiel durch Stürme und Bioturbation, zu weitreichender mechanischer Zerstörung von Kalkskeletten zur Folge hatte, führte Sedimentaufschlämmung zum Ersticken eines großen Teils des Benthos. Zumindest auf Grund dieser Umstände war das Riffwachstum auf der Palliser Plattform stark reduziert. <p>Etwa zwei Drittel der non-skeletal grains" entstanden durch Klastenalterationsprozesse. Mikroendolithische Bioerosion und Komponentenverkleinerung verwandelten einen großen Teil der Bioklasten, hauptsächlich Krinoiden, zu kleinen mikritischen Körnern. Durchdringende Bioerosion steht in Verbindung mit Nährstoffüberschuss, ausgelöst durch Veränderungen im regionalen biogeochemischen Zyklus. Diese Mesotrophie steht in Zusammenhang mit der Ellesmere Orogenese und zunehmender Besiedlung von Landgebieten durch tiefwurzelnde Gymnospermen. Zusätzlich hinterließ die früh einsetzende Auflösung einer großen Anzahl aragonitischer Kalkskelette, insbesondere Dasycladaleen, am Meeresboden eine beträchtliche Anzahl mikritischer Steinkerne. Diese zerbrachen zu Peloiden und mikritischen Intraklasten. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit legen nahe, dass weite Bereiche des riesigen Palliser Rampen-Schelf Systems durch subtidale Dasycladaleen-Krinoiden-Wiesen charakterisiert waren. Die detaillierte Untersuchung der riesigen Palliser Plattform zeigt, dass etablierte Karbonatklassifikationen nicht ausreichen, um die Fazies treffend zu beschreiben. Die revidierte Version für allochthone Kalke kann sowohl im Aufschluss als auch im Labor angewendet werden und legt besonderes Augenmerk auf Klasten-Matrix-Beziehungen. <br>-----------------------------------------------</br>RÉSUMÉ<br> Les plateformes carbonatées, dominées par d'épaisses couches de calcaires subtidaux prétendument uniformes, en bancs épais, peu fossilifères et creusés de terriers se rencontrent à travers tout le Phanérozoïque. Pourtant, ces plateformes sont encore mal comprises. Déposée à la suite de l'extinction en masse du Frasnien-Famennien, la Formation Palliser/Wabamun, de 600 m d'épaisseur maximale et s'étendant sur environ 600 000 km2, représente une des plus vastes plateformes carbonatées ayant jamais existées. L'architecture et les paléoenvironnements de la marge occidentale de cette plateforme peu profonde ont été reconstruits en se basant sur les variations latérales et verticales des microfaciès. Elle est constituée d'une rampe interne et externe ainsi que d'une plateforme au sens strict, qui sont restées pratiquement ennoyées durant toute la durée de vie de cette plateforme. Basée sur la distribution verticale à long-terme des faciès, avec les changements de faciès reflétant les dynamiques du niveau marin, une nouvelle subdivision de la Formation Palliser est proposée. Les calcaires de la Formation Palliser renferment une communauté benthique plutôt restreinte. Le substrat meuble et le phénomène de bioturbation intense ont empêché la colonisation des organismes sédentaires. Les perturbations physiques et fréquentes comme les tempêtes et la bioturbation ont augmenté la turbidité de l'eau de mer, entraînant asphixie et destruction. Au moins pour ces raisons le développement des récifs a été entravé. De plus, malgré l'apparente monotonie des faciès, les deux tiers des grains "non squelettiques" sont issus de processus de destruction. La bioérosion et diminution par microorganismes endolithiques a détruit une proportion substantielle des particules squelettiques, principalement de crinoïdes, résultant en de petits grains micritiques. Depositional dynamics of a giant carbonate platform-the Famennian Palliser Formation of Western Canada

Carbonate platforms dominated by great thicknesses of ostensibly uniform, thick bedded, poorly fossiliferous and burrow-mottled, subtidal limestones are found throughout the Phanerozoic, yet are poorly understood. Deposited in the aftermath of the FrasnianFamennian extinction event, the Palliser/Wabamun Formation with a thickness of up to 600 m and an extent of about 600 000 km2 represents one of the largest of such platforms to have ever existed.<p>The architecture and palaeoenvironment of the western side of this epeiric platform is reconstructed based on lateral and vertical variations of microfacies properties. It can be divided into inner and outer ramp and shelf belts that remained submerged virtually throughout the life of the platform. A new subdivision of the Palliser Formation is proposed based on long-term vertical facies patterns in sections with differing facies reflecting relative sealevel dynamics. <p>Limestones of the Palliser Formation record a rather limited benthic community. The soft substrate and abundant bioturbation deterred the settlement of sedentary organisms. Frequent physical disturbance, including storms and bioturbation, augmented water turbidity causing smothering and destruction. For these reasons at least, reef growth was impeded. <p>Furthermore, within the apparent facies monotony, two thirds of non-skeletal grains are generated by obliteration processes. Microendolithic bioerosion and diminution destroyed a substantial proportion of the skeletal particles, mostly crinoids, resulting in small micritized grains. Pervasive bioerosion is linked to excess nutrient flux caused by perturbations to the regional biogeochemical cycle. The Ellesmerian Orogeny and increased colonization of land surfaces by deep-rooting gymnosperms are identified as the cause of mesotrophy. Early seafloor dissolution consumed a vast amount of aragonite skeletons, dasycladalean algae in particular, leaving ample amounts of micritic steinkerns, which in turn broke down into peloids and small intraclasts. These discoveries suggest that large areas of the giant ramp-shelf system were characterized by subtidal dasycladalean and crinoid meadows. Finally, established carbonate classifications are re-evaluated and a revised classification for allochthonous limestones for both outcrop and laboratory is introduced. Special emphasis is laid on clastmatrix relationships. <p>-----------------------------------------------<p> ZUSAMMENFASSUNG<br> Die Palliser/Wabamun Formation ist eine von zahlreichen phanerozoischen Karbonatplattformen, die sich durch große Mächtigkeiten vermeintlich monotoner, fossilarmer, bioturbierter Kalke auszeichnen. Diese 600 m mächtige Abfolge sedimentierte im Schatten des Aussterbeereignisses an der Frasne-Famenne Grenze über einen Zeitraum von 69 Ma. Sie gehört mit einer Ausdehnung von etwa 600.000 km2 zu einer der größten Plattformen dieser Art, die auf unserem Planeten entstanden. Mit Hilfe lateraler und vertikaler Trends mikrofazieller Parameter konnte das Ablagerungsmilieu und die Architektur das westlichen Teils dieser epikontinentalen Plattform rekonstruiert werden. Es werden innere und äußere Rampe und Schelf voneinander unterschieden, die praktisch durchgehend über die ganze Plattformentwicklung überflutet blieben. Die vorgestellte Neugliederung der Palliser Formation basiert auf langfristigen vertikalen Faziesmustern in Profilen mit unterschiedlicher Fazies. Faziesmuster spiegeln relative Meeresspiegelschwankungen wider. <p>Die Palliser Kalke sind durch einen eher eingeschränkten Benthos gekennzeichnet, wobei weiches Substrat und intensive Bioturbation die Besiedlung durch sesshafte Organismen erschwerten. Während häufige Bewegung, zum Beispiel durch Stürme und Bioturbation, zu weitreichender mechanischer Zerstörung von Kalkskeletten zur Folge hatte, führte Sedimentaufschlämmung zum Ersticken eines großen Teils des Benthos. Zumindest auf Grund dieser Umstände war das Riffwachstum auf der Palliser Plattform stark reduziert. <p>Etwa zwei Drittel der non-skeletal grains" entstanden durch Klastenalterationsprozesse. Mikroendolithische Bioerosion und Komponentenverkleinerung verwandelten einen großen Teil der Bioklasten, hauptsächlich Krinoiden, zu kleinen mikritischen Körnern. Durchdringende Bioerosion steht in Verbindung mit Nährstoffüberschuss, ausgelöst durch Veränderungen im regionalen biogeochemischen Zyklus. Diese Mesotrophie steht in Zusammenhang mit der Ellesmere Orogenese und zunehmender Besiedlung von Landgebieten durch tiefwurzelnde Gymnospermen. Zusätzlich hinterließ die früh einsetzende Auflösung einer großen Anzahl aragonitischer Kalkskelette, insbesondere Dasycladaleen, am Meeresboden eine beträchtliche Anzahl mikritischer Steinkerne. Diese zerbrachen zu Peloiden und mikritischen Intraklasten. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit legen nahe, dass weite Bereiche des riesigen Palliser Rampen-Schelf Systems durch subtidale Dasycladaleen-Krinoiden-Wiesen charakterisiert waren. Die detaillierte Untersuchung der riesigen Palliser Plattform zeigt, dass etablierte Karbonatklassifikationen nicht ausreichen, um die Fazies treffend zu beschreiben. Die revidierte Version für allochthone Kalke kann sowohl im Aufschluss als auch im Labor angewendet werden und legt besonderes Augenmerk auf Klasten-Matrix-Beziehungen. <br>-----------------------------------------------</br>RÉSUMÉ<br> Les plateformes carbonatées, dominées par d'épaisses couches de calcaires subtidaux prétendument uniformes, en bancs épais, peu fossilifères et creusés de terriers se rencontrent à travers tout le Phanérozoïque. Pourtant, ces plateformes sont encore mal comprises. Déposée à la suite de l'extinction en masse du Frasnien-Famennien, la Formation Palliser/Wabamun, de 600 m d'épaisseur maximale et s'étendant sur environ 600 000 km2, représente une des plus vastes plateformes carbonatées ayant jamais existées. L'architecture et les paléoenvironnements de la marge occidentale de cette plateforme peu profonde ont été reconstruits en se basant sur les variations latérales et verticales des microfaciès. Le substrat meuble et le phénomène de bioturbation intense ont empêché la colonisation des organismes sédentaires. Les perturbations physiques et fréquentes comme les tempêtes et la bioturbation ont augmenté la turbidité de l'eau de mer, entraînant asphixie et destruction. Au moins pour ces raisons le développement des récifs a été entravé. De plus, malgré l'apparente monotonie des faciès, les deux tiers des grains "non squelettiques" sont issus de processus de destruction. Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / O estudo geoquímico detalhado em dois poços (A e B) na porção oeste da Bacia do Amazonas visou o entendimento da quantidade, fonte e evolução térmica da matéria orgânica presente nas Formações Ererê, Barreirinha e Curiri. Foram efetuadas análises de Carbono Orgânico Total (COT), pirólise Rock-Eval e biomarcadores. Os teores de carbono orgânico total da Formação Barreirinha (Membro Abacaxis) que variam de 1,43% a 8,39%, indicaram que este intervalo possui quantidade de matéria orgânica necessária para ser considerado potencialmente gerador de óleo e gás. As outras unidades litoestratigráficas apresentaram teores de COT pouco significativos. Com base nos dados de pirólise, identificou-se que o intervalo com o melhor potencial gerador corresponde ao Membro Abacaxis. Esta seção no poço A possui índice de hidrogênio (IH) ligeiramente superior a 200 mg HC/gCOT e um potencial gerador (S2)variando de 4 a 17,76 mg de HC/g de rocha, indicando um bom à excelente potencial adequado à geração de gás e condensado. Já no poço B, em decorrência do aumento da evolução térmica, os valores de S2 e IH são mais baixos(variando de 5 a 10 mgHC/g de rocha e com valores entre 50 e 150 mg HC/gCOT, respectivamente), apenas indicando um bom potencial à geração de gás. Segundo diagrama tipo Van Krevlen, a matéria orgânica deste intervalo é heterogênea e se comporta como querogênio tipo II e III no poço A e do tipo III e IV no poço B. As características dos biomarcadores encontrados no Membro Abacaxis indicam uma origem algal e ambiente marinho. O Membro Urariá e a Formação Curiri apresentam indicadores sugestivos de aporte de matéria orgânica de origem terrestre, sendo que o Membro Urariá ainda mostra algumas assinaturas semelhantes com o Membro Abacaxis. Devido a baixa concentração dos biomarcadores cíclicos nas amostras do Poço B, não foi possível realizar uma caracterização da fonte da matéria orgânica da Formação Ererê. A avaliação dos parâmetros utilizados para a interpretação da evolução térmica, como Tmax, taxa de transformação (TT), índice de produção (IP), reflectância da vitrinita calculada (Roc) e razões entre alcanos lineares e ramificados (P/nC17 e F/nC18), indicaram que no intervalo gerador do Poço A houve geração de hidrocarbonetos, mas ainda não correu a migração. No caso do Poço B, os dados mostram que neste intervalo já houve geração e migração de hidrocarbonetos. / The detailed geochemical study in two wells (A and B) at the west portion of the Amazonas Basin aimed the understading of the source, origin and thermal evolution of the organic matter presented in the Barreirinha Formation, encompassing the samples of the Ererê and Curiri Formations too. Analyzes of Total Organic Carbon (TOC), pyrolyse "Rock-Eval" and biomarkers were carried out. The organic carbon content of Barreirinha Formation (Abacaxis Member) range from 1,43% to 8,39% and indicate that this interval has enough organic matter and a good potential for oil and gas generation. The other lithoestratigraphic units showed not significant levels of TOC. Based on the pyrolyse data, it was identified that the interval with the better potential for generation is the Abacaxis Member. This section of the well A has the hydrogen index (HI) slightly higher to 200 mg HC/gTOC and a generating potential (S2) ranging from 4 to 17,76 mg of HC/g of rock, indicating a good to excellent potential for generation of gas and condensed. On the other hand, the well B, as a result of the higher thermal evolution, the values of S2 and HI are lower (ranging from 5 to 10 mg of HC/g of rock in S2 and values between 50 and 150 mg HC/gTOC in HI), just indicating a slightly potential to the generation of gas. In according to the Van Krevlen Diagram, the organic matter of this interval is heterogeneous and behave like a kerogen type II and III at the well A and type III and IV at the well B. The biomarkers data at Abacaxis Member indicate algal origin and marine environment. The Urariá Member and the Curiri Formation show suggestive indicators of terrestrial organic matter contribution, but the Urariá Member show some evidences similar to the Abacaxis Member too. Due to the low concentration of the cyclic biomarkers in the samples of the weel B, the characterization of the origin of the organic matter of Erere Formation was not possible. The assessment of the parameters utilized for the interpretation of the themal evolution, such as Tmax, transformation ratio (TR), production index (IP), calculated vitrinite reflectance (Roc) and the ratios pristane/nC17 and phytane/nC18, indicate that the source rock of Well A had generation of hydrocarbon, but still does not happened the migration. In case of Well B, the data shows that in this interval already had generation and migration of hydrocarbon.

Evolu??o diagen?tica e caracteriza??o dos reservat?rios da se??o devoniana na Bacia do Rio do Peixe-Nordeste do Brasil

However, a recent study, based on integrated pollen analysis from three wells, found an unprecedented siliciclastic sedimentary section, in the region, of early Devonian age. Therefore, the present study aims a detailed petrographic and petrological analysis of this devonian section, in the Rio do Peixe Basin and proposes a diagenetic evolution, to understand the characteristics of the porous system, identify the main reservoir petrofacies with the main factors impacting on the quality of these rocks as reservoirs and a quick study on the provenance of this section. The petrographic study was based on samples obtained from subsurface and surface. The diagenetic evolution of petrofacies and its identification were based only on subsurface samples and the study of provenance was based on surface samples. The thin sections were prepared from sandstones, pelites and sandstones intercalated with pelites. The original detrital composition for this section is arcosean and the main diagenetic processes that affected these rocks occur in various depths and different conditions, which resulted in extensive diagenetic variety. The following processes were identified: early fracture and healing of grains; albitization of K-feldspar and plagioclase; siderite; precipitation of silica and feldspar; mechanical infiltration of clay and its transformation to illite/esmectite and illite; autigenesis of analcime; dissolution; autigenesis of chlorite; dolomite/ferrous dolomite/anquerite; apatite; calcite; pyrite; titanium minerals and iron oxide-hidroxide. The occurrence of a recently discovered volcanism, in the Rio do Peixe Basin, may have influenced the diagenetic evolution of this section. Three diagenetic stages affected the Devonian section: eo, meso and telodiagenesis. This section is compositionally quite feldspathic, indicating provenance from continental blocks, between transitional continental and uplift of the basement. From this study, we observed a wide heterogeneity in the role of the studied sandstones as reservoirs. Seven petrofacies were identified, taking into account the main diagenetic constituent responsible for the reduction of porosity. It is possible that the loss of original porosity was influenced by intense diagenesis in these rocks, where the main constituent for the loss of porosity are clays minerals, oxides and carbonate cement (calcite and dolomite) / A Bacia do Rio do Peixe corresponde a uma das principais bacias interiores do Nordeste do Brasil e trabalhos pioneiros posicionaram as rochas pertencentes a esta bacia, no Cret?ceo Inferior. Entretanto, um estudo mais recente, baseado na an?lise palinol?gica integrada entre tr?s po?os, verificou a exist?ncia de uma se??o sedimentar silicicl?stica, in?dita na regi?o, de idade eodevoniana.
