An empirical analysis of patterns in, and the informativeness of, director trading in the UK

Nassar, Basel January 2014 (has links)
The key objective of this research is to examine various issues relating to trades of UK directors (insiders’) in their company shares. Specifically, we examine the general patterns and characteristics of directors’ trades, the seasonality patterns of aggregate directors’ trades (measured by insider aggregate number and value of insider trading activities), the impact that director’s age has on trade informativeness, and the effect of industry classification on the information content of directors’ trades. To the best of our knowledge, no empirical examination of these issues has yet to be examined. When examining the general patterns and characteristics of directors’ trades, we find that directors buy more frequently than they sell but the average value of sell trades are approximately seven times larger, which suggests that directors sell less frequently but in larger monetary amounts. Furthermore, the majority of trades occur for directors aged between 45 and 65. Small transactions tend to be purchases while large transactions tend to be sells. The majority of the trades were by former directors (for both transaction types) followed by executive and non- executive directors. The majority of trades occurred in the financial industry. When examining the seasonal patterns of aggregate directors’ trades (as measured by the number and the value of insider transactions), the results show that there is a day of the week anomaly in aggregate insider activities. Insiders tend to trade more on Fridays and less on Tuesdays. Also, there is a month of the year anomaly in aggregate insider activities (as measured by the number of insider transactions). Specifically, insiders tend to trade more in March and trade less in August. The impact of director’s age is also examined, and the results suggest that younger directors’ buy transactions produce significantly higher abnormal returns than older directors. There is some evidence of statistically significantly negative CAARs for younger directors’ sell trades. When controlling for director type, we find that younger executives (formers) are more informed about their buy trades than executives (formers) of other age groups. Unlike the previous pattern, older non-executives (over 70) seem to be more informed about their buy trades than younger non-executives. Finally, the results of whether industry classifications have an impact on the informativeness of directors’ trades indicate that abnormal returns are highest for directors of technology industries. The level of information asymmetry has an impact on the informativeness of directors’ trades. Specifically, insider gains are highest, for directors, in high R&D, high volatility, low regulated, highly concentrated, and low CEO compensation industries/sectors.

Management změny ve škole / Management changes at school

Kopárek, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
Regarding a broader topic of management, the diploma work deals with the resistance to changes, causes of its development and options how to decrease it. It aims to reveal the structure of resistance in specific and most common changes in the life of elementary schools. Furthermore, it intends to discover which variables are of the greatest influence on the formation and power of resistance, to find common characteristics for identical changes at various schools and to formulate recommendations to the management how to decrease the degree of resistance to introduced changes. The work is composed of a theoretical part based on the studies of contemporary knowledge and a practical part - a research in which data were obtained and processed. The research method included a questionnaire survey. Among the most significant results the following fact was ascertained: a very high influence of the contribution of changes to the overall resistance to changes Teachers are willing to accept high demands of a change if they perceive its contribution positively. This influence is demonstrated in various groups and viewpoints of assessment. Teachers, primarily men, need to verify that the changes will be beneficial. Women show a greater resistance to changes than men. Women perceive the demands of changes in a...

Björk, Linda, Fäldt, Sofia January 2003 (has links)

Estate agent: Coin money; make money hand over fist? - What motivate an estate agent and how the leaders look upon their co-workers motivation?

Larsson, Ida January 2007 (has links)

/
My purpose with this study has been to investigate what it is that motivate an estate agent and to investigate how the directors estimate the co-workers motivation and its influence on performance. I have hold to several theories that I could connect to the empirical result. Motivation factors vary depending on each individual and therefore estate agent. Satisfied customers, comfort at work, vary tasks and a good salary seems to be significant motivation factors for the estate agents. The directors should create a better dialogue with the estate agents to increase the wariness of the co-workers motivation factors. On that way the directors eliminate the risk that they assume their own motivation factors rather than the co-workers.

La música incidental en el Teatro Español de Madrid (1942-1952 y 1962-1964)

Carrillo Guzmán, Mercedes del Carmen 20 October 2008 (has links)
The thesis has two parts. In the first one we establish the theoretical-analytical frame in order to analyze the chosen scores and texts. This frame is the musical dramatical, from which we define concepts and we establish a classification so that it can help us to analyze the music in the plays. We also make a historical evaluation of the music in the plays. In the second part we make a description of the interactive relationship between Cayetano Luca de Tena, Scene Director, and Manuel Parada de la Puente, Musical Director, with documents with prove it, in the Spanish Theatre of Madrid at the beginning of the Franquism Regime. We also do an analysis of the incidental music of the nineteen theatre plays chosen like a sample, as well as the analysis of the elements of musical dramatical from its texts in order to reconstruct the plays.

Tuning Your Choral Pipes: An Organist's Manual for Choral Sound

Gundersen, John-Eric 06 September 2012 (has links)
As choir masters, many organists have the responsibility of hiring and working with paid singers as well as a dedicated group of volunteer singers ranging in experience from novice to advanced. The similarities of the human voice to the pipe-organ are numerous. Using these similarities and scientific analysis of the two instruments, organists can familiarize themselves with the tuning system of the human voice. Like the pipe organ, the human voice is capable of wide variety of sounds, qualities, textures, pitches and levels of volume. Unlike an organ pipe, the voice is not a fixed resonator. The voice is the most flexible of all musical instruments. Instructing an ensemble of singers to shape their sound simultaneously is the beginning of “tuning your choral pipes.” It will be important to establish terminology with your singers in order to successfully communicate with them despite their varying levels of ability and pronunciation differences. Becoming familiar with the mechanics of the voice and an alphabet of pure vowel sounds can help organist-choir masters achieve a greater degree of success when working with singers. The stops, pipes and expression pedal of the human voice are defined by the laryngeal muscles as they relate to registration, the vocal tract shape as defined by the vowel, and the amount of volume created by the air pressure. This guide for organists covers these topics and contains exercises for the reader to apply during choral rehearsals.
