La frontière du sud-ouest en Argentine jusqu'en 1890 : d'une incomplète conquête à la conquête achevée / The South-West frontier in Argentina until 1890 : From an incomplete conquest to its accomplishment

Floury-Dagorn, Ghislaine 20 December 2013 (has links)
L'étude permettra d'examiner l'évolution de cet espace frontalier tout d'abord durant la période coloniale, puis à l'époque des guerres de l'Indépendance, et enfin les divers processus qui auront conduit, tout au long du XIXe siècle, à la suppression définitive de cette frontière, ainsi que de tribus amérindiennes encore indépendantes / The Conquest of the Río de la Plata is a particular case within the Spanish Empire : beyond an inner boundary established by the conquerors – the indian frontier – the Natives maintained control over their territory, as well as they did facing the british colonies in North America. During four centuries, two societies thus coexisted on both sides of this theoretical and movable line, a space of conflicts, but of intense and continuing exchanges too. This doctoral thesis intend to study the inner South-West Frontier, from the first contacts with the indigenous peoples in the 16th century until the militarycampaigns carried out by the government of Argentina at the end of the 19th century and making it disappear, as well as in the United States. The study will give the opportunity to review the changings in this border space, first during the colonial period, then at the time of the Independence wars, and finally the various processes which will lead to the abolition of this frontier, as well as of independent amerindian tribes during the 19th century

Preventive diplomacy and conflict provention in Africa

Mandela, Siyabulela January 2017 (has links)
South Africa‟s participation in international peace missions is guided by the White Paper of 1998 and premised specifically on the country‟s foreign policy objectives based on its vision of “a better South Africa, a better Africa and a better world”. South Africa recognises itself as an integral part of the African continent and therefore sees its national interests as being intrinsically linked to Africa‟s stability, unity and prosperity. Since 1994, South Africa has placed itself at the forefront of Africa's peace and security endeavours, trying to transform itself from international villain during apartheid years to Pan-Africanist peacemaker. The country has played an instrumental role in both shaping and setting the normative agenda of the African Union and Southern African Development Community. South Africa‟s participation in conflict resolution and peace missions in Africa is informed by an understanding of the nexus that exists between peace, security and sustainable development. This research focuses on South Africa‟s diplomatic and peacekeeping engagement in Lesotho, covering the constitutional and electoral crises from 1994 - 2015 constitutional crisis. The author shows the importance and way forward to resolve conflicts before they become escalated and deadly. The study calls for a „timely‟ reaction to disputes and conflicts on the African continent via preventive diplomacy, conflict provention and addressing of underlying issues that give rise to disputes and conflict.

The Substance of Ontological Disputes

Lamb, Richard Campbell 06 July 2016 (has links)
There is a large philosophical literature focused on what sorts of things can be said to exist. This field is called ontology. Ontological disputes have sometimes been accused of being merely verbal disputes: that they are concerned only with language and not with facts. Some think that if this accusation is correct, philosophers should give up doing ontology. However, whether the accusation is correct and whether it is so serious depends on what is meant by verbal dispute. Eli Hirsch in particular has argued that ontological disputes are merely verbal in one specific sense. In this paper, I first argue that his accusation fails to show that ontological disputes are not substantive. Even if we admit that ontological disputes are verbal in Hirsch's sense, they may still be substantive in a variety of other senses. Second, I argue that even though ontological disputes are substantive, the reason for this will not support stronger claims about the nature and role of ontological disputes. / Master of Arts

Spory vyvolané exekučním a insolvečním řízením / Legal disputes caused by execution and bankruptcy proceedings

Vepřková, Petra January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to define the disputes arising from the execution and bankruptcy proceedings, to categorize them to the systematic framework, to outline their nature and to create a comprehensive overview about these disputes. The thesis is devided into three chapters, which are subdevided into subsections and parts. The first chapter of this work is aimed to the general issues, that have the influence on creating and forming of disputes resulting from the execution and insolvency proceedings, because it would be impossible to capture this topic coherently without these initial premises. Thereof, there are incorporated the conceptual definition of the execution proceedings and the principles of the execution proceedings, particularly considering the principle of protection of the obliged person and the principle of protection of third parties. In the part dealing with the aspects that form the disputes in the insolvency proceedings there are indicated the historical development of the insolvency, the overall characteristic of the insolvency proceedings, its specific principles and the difference from the former legislation. Further, for making a general overview of disputes arising from the execution and insolvency proceedings, there is also included in the first chapter the classification...
