One Church in One Location: Questioning the Biblical, Theological, and Historical Claims of the Multi-Site Church Movement

Gaines, Grant 14 December 2012 (has links)
This dissertation argues that a multi-site church that is not characterized by campus-wide gatherings does not have a sound biblical or theological basis for considering itself one church and is inconsistent with historic congregationalism. This argument is made in six steps. First, a framework for determining whether or not a church practice is biblical is put forward. Second, it is shown that the people of God as one assembly is a central theme in the Old Testament. Third, it is demonstrated that this theme of the people of God as one assembly is also a central theme of the New Testament. Fourth, it is argued that there is not precedent for multi-site church structure in the house churches of the New Testament. Fifth, it is shown that multi-site is not consistent with historic congregationalism as seen in Baptist ecclesiology. And sixth, it is argued that multi-site church structure is consistent with historic connectionalism as seen, for example, in Methodist ecclesiogy--a fact that only serves to heighten the problem with multi-site from a congregationalist point of view.

Very little of the catholic social discourse has been studied at the academic level, but the deep influence of the Catholic Church on western culture and its institutions is undeniable. The basis of this research is the hypothesis that the principles of catholic social teaching, when part of a social initiative, offer important input at a personal and community level, with regards to the development of the individuals they impact. This thesis also includes wide-ranging bibliographical research in order to attempt to describe and understand the philosophical and social bases of these principles. A case study is presented involving the Landless Workers Association of São Paulo, a popular housing movement that operates in the northwestern region of the city of São Paulo, which has aided 20,000 families who did not own their own homes and who previously lived in precarious conditions. This research takes a qualitative approach, with on-the-ground analyses of the dynamics of this association undertaken during visits to the areas where it operates, as well as analysis of the responses to semi-structured interviews with the founders and members of the movement about their own life stories and those of the movement itself. Questionnaires were also applied to other members in order to corroborate the elements that emerged from the interviews. It can be observed that the principle of the dignity of the human person, solidarity and subsidiarity are present in the bases of this movement, reflected in the concern the founders have for their members, taking into account all the aspects that constitute individual people and, consequently, their families, from the freedom to build their own homes in the way they desire, to the strengthening of communitarian aspects and the establishment of partnerships with local authorities and with other groups in society.

Bárbara Júnior, Camilo Antônio Santa 27 March 2009 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The discussion limits in the application of the paradigm of the talent to the religious ambit, pointing out like him is understood in the context of the Catholic Christianity and also which the implications of the practical and theoretical point of view of the talent and of the religious person in the social phenomenon, above all, applied the social doctrine of the Church, present in "Deus caritas est". This work attempts to expose the likeness among the foundation of the Catholic social doctrine, present in "Deus caritas est" and the logic of the talent. He made it considering the Christianity as an economy of the grace and considering this an universality, a radicalism and an assimilation of the logic of the talent. In this sense, it was ended that, in "Deus caritas est", the foundation of the social doctrine of the Church tends to coincide with the logic of the talent and to reinforce it starting from the theological category of the charity.

Křesťan a politika ve světle novozákonních textů / Christians and Politics from the View of the New Testamental Texts

Grobelný, Miroslav January 2020 (has links)
The title of this degree work is "Christians and Politics from the View of the New Testamental Texts". The main purpose is to identify various aspects of the view at the political power in the texts of the New Testament, to make a judgement about these texts on the background of its historical and literary context and to look for its common topics. In this thesis we went into details about relatively great number of passages with the goal to attain the global point of view. At the beginning we justified why to look for the inspiration in the life of Jesus Christ. Then we focused on Jesus' political principles. We treated conflicts between John the Baptist and Herod Antipas and conflicts between Jesus and political and religious leaders of his days. We focused mainly on the conflicts connected with the Jewish Law and paying taxes. Then we treated the conflict between Jesus and Pilate, which ended in Jesus' crucifixion. Then we briefly touched on the Paul's point of view and we mentioned several examples of the persecution of the Christians from the pagans. At the end we made an attempt to resume briefly what the New Testament says about the relationship of the Christians to the political power and we joined the short mention about the relationship between the Church and the state in the social doctrine of...

Mission der mennoniten Brüdergemeinde in Karaganda/Kasachstan

Friesen, Andreas 30 November 2002 (has links)
The dissertation in hand is about the theological researches about the mission of the German Mennonite - Brethren - Church in Karaganda I Kasachstan from 1956 to 2000. The existing socialism with its atheistical values affected adversely the lives of the Christians and prevented them from missionary work. In spite of that mission was able to be practised. Experienced preachers and teachers in the church prepared the missionary work by instructing the Christians to be effective witnesses for the Lord. This was achieved by the training of young preachers. regular pronouncements of the Gospel and the work with children and young persons. The Christians retained this method until the middle of the 70ies when the regid laws concerning the missionary work were mitigated. Commited brothers. young persons, preachers and singers visited lonely Christians and churches in remote villages, had personal conversations with unbelievers and organized evangelizations. Members ofthe church were sent out as missionaries to erect parishes and carry out evangelizations / Missiology / M.Th.
