Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

Aldin, Laden January 2010 (has links)
In modern organisations business process modelling has become fundamental due to the increasing rate of organisational change. As a consequence, an organisation needs to continuously redesign its business processes on a regular basis. One major problem associated with the way business process modelling (BPM) is carried out today is the lack of explicit and systematic reuse of previously developed models. Enabling the reuse of previously modelled behaviour can have a beneficial impact on the quality and efficiency of the overall information systems development process and also improve the effectiveness of an organisation’s business processes. In related disciplines, like software engineering, patterns have emerged as a widely accepted architectural mechanism for reusing solutions. In business process modelling the use of patterns is quite limited apart from few sporadic attempts proposed by the literature. Thus, pattern-based BPM is not commonplace. Business process patterns should ideally be discovered from the empirical analysis of organisational processes. Empiricism is currently not the basis for the discovery of patterns for business process modelling and no systematic methodology for collecting and analysing process models of business organisations currently exists. The purpose of the presented research project is to develop a methodological framework for achieving reuse in BPM via the discovery and adoption of patterns. The framework is called Semantic Discovery and Reuse of Business Process Patterns (SDR). SDR provides a systematic method for identifying patterns among organisational data assets representing business behaviour. The framework adopts ontologies (i.e., formalised conceptual models of real-world domains) in order to facilitate such discovery. The research has also produced an ontology of business processes that provides the underlying semantic definitions of processes and their constituent parts. The use of ontologies to model business processes represents a novel approach and combines advances achieved by the Semantic Web and BPM communities. The methodological framework also relates to a new line of research in BPM on declarative business processes in which the models specify what should be done rather than how to ‘prescriptively’ do it. The research follows a design science method for designing and evaluating SDR. Evaluation is carried out using real world sources and reuse scenarios taken from both the financial and educational domains.

Simulação do fluxo de peças durante a operação de torneamento em sistemas flexíveis de fabricação baseado em framework orientado a objetos / Simulation of the flow of work pieces during the turning operation on flexible manufacturing systems based on object oriented framework

Flávio Henrique Fernandes Volpon 02 April 2012 (has links)
Analysis and construction of a computer system using concepts of frameworks, for simulation of the workflow pieces in flexible manufacturing systems are presented. The creation of a database to fully describe the flexible manufacturing system and the simulation of the turning stage, during the workflow pieces are implemented. The method of simulation in the framework is based on geometric modeling and functional of the mounting plate during the turning operation. To choose the best mounting during the turning operation, its assigned an index calculated by the computer system, according to the quality of mounting. In the process of development of the framework were used concepts of software reuse, frameworks and associations between a structure of data persistence using relational database, with a detached storage model data types and specific tables, allowing implementation of new methods to simulate other productive means.

Effects Of Spl Domain Engineering On Testing Cost And Maintainability

Senbayrak, Ziya 01 February 2013 (has links) (PDF)
A software product line (SPL) consists of a set of software-intensive systems sharing a common, managed set of features that satisfy the specific needs of a particular market segment or mission and that are developed from a common set of core assets in a prescribed way. Together with testing of final deliverable products developed within the SPL, called Integration Testing, particularly important in this context is the way individual hardware as well as software components in an SPL are tested and certified for usage within the SPL. This study investigates specific approaches and techniques proposed in the literature for unit testing in the SPL context. Problems inherent to this issue were studied and possible solutions aiming towards systematic and effective testing of hardware as well as software units in SPLs have been proposed. The specific problems of SPL testing in ASELSAN were investigated in the light of these possible solutions and their applicability as well as their benefits were quantitatively assessed.

protoBOM : Framework that semi-automatically generates Decision Support Systems based on Software Product Lines

Gomez Lacruz, Maria January 2008 (has links)
This thesis presents the development of a prototype of the Baseline Oriented Modeling (BOM) approach, called protoBOM. BOM is a framework that semi-automatically generates Decision Support Systems in a specific domain, based on Software Product Lines. protoBOM semi-automatically generates applications as PRISMA architectural models by using Model-Driven Architecture and Software Product Line techniques. These models are automatically compiled and the object code (C#, in .NET) is generated obtaining an executable application. In protoBOM, the user constructs Decision Support Systems in a simpler way by using the ontologies of the diagnosis and the application domains by means of Domain Specific Languages. The interfaces will be closer to the problem domain, which will facilitate user interaction in a manner simple and intuitive.

Kipper, Marcelo Mondadori January 2010 (has links)
Domain Engineering comes from the Software field and aims the increase of reuse to allow reduction of cost and time in the development of systems. The deployment of this methodology in automation systems (products and industrial plants) – in which more disciplines (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, among others) are present and therefore differs from the Software engineering, that deals basically with the reuse of Software artifacts – has awakened the interest of some research institutes, like the IAS (Institute of Industrial Automation and Software Engineering of the University of Stuttgart), and will be analyzed during this work. The engineering of industrial plants is increasingly executed using the so called PLM Tools ("Plant or Production Lifecycle Management"), whose concept was originated from "Product Lifecycle Management", also abbreviated as PLM. The idea of these tools is to manage the assets not only in the engineering process, but also through operation and maintenance until the decommissioning of the industrial plants. Many of these PLM Tools support the object orientation principle from the Software engineering, and based upon this principle they address the integration of data from artifacts of the various disciplines. This work presents a concept for a multidisciplinary reusable technical artifact that was the base for the elaboration of an adapted DE Methodology for PLM Tools, in which the object oriented principle, is present. The presented ideas have been experimentally validated using as a case study a Modular Production System (MPS) together with the PLM Tool Comos from the company Siemens. The obtained results indicate a feasible implementation of the proposed methodology in the industry, aiming cost and time reduction through the reuse of multidisciplinary technical artifacts in domains with similar applications.
