Anamorphic Preclinical SPECT Imaging with High-Resolution Silicon Double-Sided Strip Detectors

Durko, Heather Lynn January 2014 (has links)
Preclinical single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is an essential tool for studying progression, response to treatment, and physiological changes in small animal models of human disease. The wide range of imaging applications is often limited by the static design of many preclinical SPECT systems. We have developed a prototype imaging system that replaces the standard static pinhole aperture with two sets of movable, keel-edged copper-tungsten blades configured as crossed (skewed) slits. These apertures can be positioned independently between the object and detector, producing an anamorphic image in which the axial and transaxial magnications are not constrained to be equal. We incorporated a 60 mm x 60 mm, millimeter-thick megapixel silicon double-sided strip detector that permits ultrahigh-resolution imaging. While the stopping power of silicon is low for many common clinical radioisotopes, its performance is sufficient in the range of 20-60 keV to allow practical imaging experiments. The low-energy emissions of ¹²⁵I fall within this energy window, and the 60-day half life provides an advantage for longitudinal studies. The flexible nature of this system allows the future application of adaptive imaging techniques. We have demonstrated ~225-μm axial and ~175-μm transaxial resolution across a 2.65 cm³ cylindrical field of view, as well as the capability for simultaneous multi-isotope acquisitions. We describe the key advancements that have made this system operational, including bringing up a new detector readout ASIC, development of detector control software and data-processing algorithms, and characterization of operating characteristics. We describe design and fabrication of the adjustable slit aperture platform, as well as the development of an accurate imaging forward model and its application in a novel geometric calibration technique and a GPU-based ultrahigh-resolution reconstruction code.

NONLINEAR SYSTEM MODELING UTILIZING NEURAL NETWORKS: AN APPLICATION TO THE DOUBLE SIDED ARC WELDING PROCESS

Fugate, Earl L. 01 January 2005 (has links)
The need and desire to create robust and accurate joining of materials has been one of up most importance throughout the course of history. Many forms have often been employed, but none exhibit the strength or durability as the weld. This study endeavors to explore some of the aspects of welding, more specifically relating to the Double Sided Arc Welding process and how best to model the dynamic non-linear response of such a system. Concepts of the Volterra series, NARMAX approximation and neural networks are explored. Fundamental methods of the neural network, including radial basis functions, and Back-propagation are investigated.

Flip the pattern : An exploration on designing adjustable printed textiles

Hennerfors, Simon January 2019 (has links)
How can a textile designer work in an exploratory way to find methods and taking advantage as much of a fabrics surfaces as possible?   This work explores a combination of techniques as laser cutting and transfer printing, how they can be developed and combined to influence each other. The aim of this project is to explore the combined techniques of laser cutting and transfer printing, with a focus on designing adjustable printed textiles.   Through a method in practical working, exploration was carried out in techniques like laser cutting and transfer print, as well as the combined visual expression of several patterns with cut-outs and modularity.   The result of this project is three pieces each representing adjustment in different combinations; One adjustable repeat, modularity, and modularity with cutouts. All three except one consist of two repeated patterns on each side of the fabric. They present examples of how a textile can be changed, the relation between construction and surface print. They all show that a printed textile could be more than just a static surface.   By taking the method of printing two patterns and use laser cutting gives a value for both sides of the fabric and shows how to produce printed textiles with modularity. Additional material or more prints and colors could be investigated further.

Made available in DSpace on 2017-07-10T17:48:01Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Camila_Andrine_Hunoff.pdf: 2006508 bytes, checksum: a3e8f500b1cd79a42581254e91a7ba6d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-03-31 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Two experiments were conducted in order to evaluate the storage conditions of the Bermuda grass for hay production. In the first experiment was evaluated the storage period on the nutritional composition in the internal and external portions of Bermuda grass bales for 64 days. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement so that in the main plots were allocated the four storage environments on field under clear plastic canvas, double-sided canvas and without canvas and covered shed with side walls and in the split-plots the four periods 20, 30, 34 and 64 days with 5 replications. There was a significant difference, in the storage conditions in the inner portion of the Bermuda grass bale, for CP, NDIP, NDF, hemicellulose and soluble carbohydrates content presenting higher values for closed shed and double-sided canvas. On the external portion of the bale, there was a significant difference, only to soluble carbohydrates content in closed shed conditions and double-sided canvas, with concentrations of 33.31 dag/Kg of DM to 27.05 dag/Kg of DM respectively. Regarding the storage time, there was a linear and quadratic effect on DM, MM, CP, ADIP, NDIP, NDF, cellulose, and soluble carbohydrates, decreasing after 34 days of storage and extending throughout the experimental period. In turn there was a linear increase to the levels of lignin and hemicellulose, rising throughout the experimental period. In a second experiment was evaluated the occurrence of mold in Bermuda grass hay in the inner and outer portion of the bales in four storage conditions: on field under clear plastic canvas, double-sided canvas and without canvas and covered shed with side walls, using a randomized block design with split-plots, in the main plots the four storage environments were assigned and in the split-plots the four periods: before baling, 20, 34 and 64 days with five replications. It was observed mold growth in Bermuda grass in all environment studied, with marked population of Aspergillus and Penicillium throughout the experimental period. In all storage conditions assessed the bale temperature was always greater than or equal to the room temperature. However the hay stored on field without canvas, showed higher moisture 22% with high temperatures above 45°C, causing heating of the stored hay and thus showing not be the best choice to producers when storing hay / Realizou-se dois experimentos com o objetivo de avaliar as condições de armazenamento do capim-vaquero, destinado à produção de feno.

Čížek, Ondřej January 2017 (has links)
Forms of abuse of dominance in the area of the Internet platforms The thesis is dedicated to the topic of abuse of dominant position in the area of the Internet platforms. Its aim is, firstly, to outline the challenges arising from the specific nature of the area, which might, from the competition-authorities' point of view, complicate the enforcement of competition law in the case of abuse of dominance. Secondly, the thesis tries to find the answer on the question to what extent these problems have been reflected in the existing decision-making practice. The structure of the thesis is divided into four main parts. The first part is an introduction. The second part provides an essential introduction to the area in question. It defines the term "Internet platform", provides an overview of the most important types of the Internet platforms and describes the specifics of the area in question, whose description is essential for the following parts. The third part analyses the problems that competition law may face in the context of possible abuse of dominance within the meaning of Art. 102 TFEU in the area of the Internet platforms. This section is divided according to three basic steps of a competition analysis of abuse of dominance, i.e. definition of the relevant market, the determination of market...

Development of Bi-Directional Module using Wafer-Bonded Chips

Kim, Woochan 06 January 2015 (has links)
Double-sided module exhibits electrical and thermal characteristics that are superior to wire-bonded counterpart. Such structure, however, induces more than twice the thermo-mechanical stress in a single-layer structure. Compressive posts have been developed and integrated into the double-sided module to reduce the stress to a level acceptable by silicon dice. For a 14 mm x 21 mm module carrying 6.6 mm x 6.6 mm die, finite-element simulation suggested an optimal design having four posts located 1 mm from the die; the z-direction stress at the chip was reduced from 17 MPa to 0.6 MPa. / Ph. Criminalidade organizada e a dupla face do princípio da proporcionalidade

Piedade, Antonio Sergio Cordeiro 19 June 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T20:21:54Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Antonio Sergio Cordeiro Piedade.pdf: 864222 bytes, checksum: d3582818ffd5715d01a1141977d6da40 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-06-19 / This paper aims to make a critical analysis of the punitive system, with a focus on criminal organizations. Nowadays we break free from the paradigm of rude crimes which makes us draw a new perspective to the Criminal Law, in the conception of a democratic state, where the criminal response must be considered for the organized crime, faceless, transnational, which often presents tentacles within the apparatus of the state itself and is an affront to democracy. Within this context, we will analyze the evolution of different forms of state and the dimensions of fundamental guarantees, with discussions about the importance of the constitutional principles of criminal law not only related to limiting, but also in the basis and in the legitimating of a current criminal justice system, in which threats do not come only from the state, like in the past, but from a diffuse criminality. The State must act within this perspective to ensure the fundamental guarantees not only of the agent who violated the criminal standard, but also of society. The double sided proportionality principle, especially in the aspect of the prohibition of poor protection emerges as an instrument of materialization of human dignity , so that it is not allowed for them to violate the fundamental rights in their collective bias, with a failure protection of the highest values of a society in order to ensure a harmonious coexistence in society, through an efficient crime policy that preserves the democratic healthiness and credibility of republican institutions / O presente trabalho tem por objetivo fazer uma análise crítica do sistema punitivo, com foco nas organizações criminosas.
