Predicting The Performance Of Interpreting Instruction Based On Digital Propensity Index Score In Text And Graphic Formats

Norman, David 01 January 2008 (has links)
Practitioners have proposed that Digital Natives prefer graphics while Digital Immigrants prefer text. While Instructional Design has been extensively studied and researched, the impact of the graphical emphasis in instructional designs as it relates to digital propensity has not been widely explored. Specifically, this study examined the performance of students when presented with text-only and graphic-only instructional formats. The purpose of this study was to test the relationship between Digital Propensity Index scores of individuals and their performance when interpreting online instruction. A sample of students from the population of a large metropolitan university received the Digital Propensity Index questionnaire, which is a measure of an individual's time spent interacting with digital media. Each student was randomly assigned varying formats of a computer-based instructional unit via a public survey. The instructional unit consisted of the DPI questionnaire and six tasks related to the Central Florida commuter rail system. Participants were asked to answer the DPI questionnaire on a website by clicking on a link in an emailed invitation. Following the DPI questionnaire, participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups. Group One saw three instructional tasks shown in text and shuffled in random order. Each task was displayed on its own webpage. By submitting an answer to the task, the group progressed through the website to the next task. Group Two saw graphic tasks first, again, shuffled in random order. After the first three tasks, the groups swapped instructional formats to view the opposing group's initial questions. Participants were timed on how many seconds they spent reviewing each task. Each task had an assessment question to evaluate the learning outcomes of the instructional unit. Finally, the DPI score of the participant was matched with the time spent viewing each presentation format. The findings indicate that DPI score had a statistically significant prediction of time spent navigating each type of instruction. Though the link between DPI score and time spent navigating instruction was statistically significant, the actual measurable time difference between navigating text and graphic formats was only a fraction of a second for each increment in DPI score. Limitations and potential future research related to the study are discussed as well.

Συστήματα διαχείρισης περιεχομένου και σημαντικός ιστός / Content management systems and semantic web

Νάκος, Κωνσταντίνος 24 January 2012 (has links)
Currently a large number of Web sites are driven by Content Management Systems (CMS), which manage not only textual content but also structured data. On the other hand, even though Semantic Web is beginning to materialize, it is still dwarfed by the traditional Web. The convergence of the two worlds could produce significant benefits and trigger a faster spread of the Semantic Web. In the current diploma thesis, prevalent CMS semantic enrichment tools and a series of Semantic CMS are thoroughly examined. Finally, an experimental web portal is developed using CMS Drupal’s version 7, which integrates Semantic Web features in its core (such as the automatic embedding of the emergent RDFa standard in the pages created).

Sémantický web v CMS systémech / Semantic Web in Content Management Systems

Vrána, Michal January 2010 (has links)
This masters thesis deals with the Semantic Web, its link to existing Web and the technologies, that produce it. It also deals with its current use in practice, further examines the deployment in web content management systems and proposes semantic extensions for the Kentico CMS.

Developer guidelines for e-commerce sites derived through benchmarks

Music, Sani January 2014 (has links)
E-commerce solutions are providing purchasing capabilities to users on products online, but Internet users are sensitive to delays. In-fact users see page load time as a website feature. Users are also sensitive to cognitive load time, which has to do with perceived aesthetics of a website and mental models which are created from previous interaction with websites. The scope of the thesis is that four commerce content management systems (CMSs) are compared in this thesis to find out which performs with the lowest page load time. These are Magento, Drupal with commerce, Wordpress with woocommerce and Joomla with Hikashop. The CMSs are all pushed to a very similar website design based on one universal theme, using the twitter bootstrap mobile first responsive framework. The design is based on previousresearch of users mental models for e-commerce websites. A fully functional fictional site Fastcommerce is developed on the four CMSs. The CMSs are filled with one category page of identical sample electronic products (12 items). The products have images and lorem ipsum text. The method of the thesis are experiments. The experiments are conducted to find the page load time on a local environment. The results show clear performance improvements on all four CMSs after applied optimizations. But some of the optimizations cause negative performance consequences.

Webový portál pro správu a klasifikaci informací z distribuovaných zdrojů / Web Application for Managing and Classifying Information from Distributed Sources

Vrána, Pavel January 2011 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with data mining techniques and classification of the data into specified categories. The goal of this thesis is to implement a web portal for administration and classification of data from distributed sources. To achieve the goal, it is necessary to test different methods and find the most appropriate one for web articles classification. From the results obtained, there will be developed an automated application for downloading and classification of data from different sources, which would ultimately be able to substitute a user, who would process all the tasks manually.
