Biocorrosion on metal surfaces in hydroelectric power plant.

Leandro Jorge da Silva 25 November 2015 (has links)
Metallic materials exposed to aquatic environments are susceptible to development of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC). In industries MIC is a matter of great importance due to damages generated in repairs or equipment changes and production systems disruptions associated with technical failures. In this work are presented results of a MIC study on metal surfaces exposed to process water in a generating unit of hydropower, which suffers from an accelerated corrosion process, especially in the heat exchangers and the turbines. From corrosion biofilms sampled in turbines and heat exchangers were isolated bacterial groups sulfate reducing and oxidizing and reducing iron. These bacteria have been widely reported in the literature as inducing / aggravating the corrosion process.

Mobila kuponger: Tillräckligt attraktivt eller bara pinsamt? : En studie om människors uppfattning och användning av mobila kuponger / Mobile coupons: Attractive enough or just awkward? : A study on peoples' conceptions and use of mobile coupons

Lampi, Rebecca January 2015 (has links)
The smartphones of today are provided with GPS’, which has created valuable opportunities for external actors. This in turn has created opportunities for companies to communicate with their consumers, by the use of mobile coupons for example. There have previously been technical obstacles for these kind of services, but now the challenge is to understand the consumer. This paper investigates the usage and the conceptions of mobile coupons at present, which elements that can affect the utilization and how these elements could be improved to spread the distribution of this service. The questions have been answered through a survey of 50 respondents and a focus group of 6 participants. The result proved that the usage of mobile coupons is not particularly high, however this was mainly due to bad awareness of the availability of the service. Some important factors affecting the utilization was forgetting to use the coupons, a bigger commitment was seen as awkward, or to intrude on the integrity.

Mobile Coupon Insights : A qualitative study on Generation Z students intentions towards engaging with mobile coupons

Tiderman, Oscar, Mohammed Mustafa, Ali, Aziz Azad, Amanj January 2024 (has links)
The evolving landscape of digital marketing has significantly impacted consumer behaviour, especially among Generation Z. This thesis explores Generation Z students' intentions towards engaging with mobile coupons, examining the psychological beliefs that influence their behaviour through the lens of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the concept of Mental Accounting. By understanding the attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and mental accounting practices, this study seeks to uncover the factors that drive or hinder the use of mobile coupons among this demographic. Using a qualitative research methodology, semi-structured interviews were conducted with Generation Z students in Sweden to gather in-depth insights into their coupon usage behaviour. The empirical findings indicate that while economic efficiency and value perception are critical motivators, social influence and psychological perceptions also play significant roles. Additionally, the convenience and immediacy provided by mobile coupons align well with the digital consumption patterns of Generation Z. The conclusion reveals that the integration of digital technology in marketing strategies must consider these nuanced psychological beliefs to effectively engage Generation Z. This research contributes to the broader understanding of digital marketing strategies and offers practical implications for marketers aiming to enhance coupon engagement among students. Future studies are recommended to further explore the dynamic interplay between digital marketing tools and consumer psychology.

Nicomette, Vincent 17 December 1996 (has links) (PDF)

Essays in direct marketing : understanding response behavior and implementation of targeting strategies

Sinha, Shameek 06 July 2011 (has links)
In direct marketing, understanding the response behavior of consumers to marketing initiatives is a pre-requisite for marketers before implementing targeting strategies to reach potential as well as existing consumers in the future. Consumer response can either be in terms of the incidence or timing of purchases, category/ brand choice of purchases made as well as the volume or purchase amounts in each category. Direct marketers seek to explore how past consumer response behavior as well as their targeting actions affects current response patterns. However, considerable heterogeneity is also prevalent in consumer responses and the possible sources of this heterogeneity need to be investigated. With the knowledge of consumer response and the corresponding heterogeneity, direct marketers can devise targeting strategies to attract potential new consumers as well as retain existing consumers. In the first essay of my dissertation (Chapter 2), I model the response behavior of donors in non-profit charity fund-raising in terms of their timing and volume of donations. I show that past donations (both the incidence and volume) and solicitation for alternative causes by non-profits matter in donor responses and the heterogeneity in donation behavior can be explained in terms of individual and community level donor characteristics. I also provide a heuristic approach to target new donors by using a classification scheme for donors in terms of the frequency and amount of donations and then characterize each donor portfolio with corresponding donor characteristics. In the second essay (Chapter 3), I propose a more structural approach in the targeting of customers by direct marketers in the context of customized retail couponing. First I model customer purchase in a retail setting where brand choice decisions in a product category depend on pricing, in-store promotions, coupon targeting as well as the face values of those coupons. Then using a utility function specification for the retailer which implements a trade-off between net revenue (revenue – coupon face value) and information gain, I propose a Bayesian decision theoretic approach to determine optimal customized coupon face values. The optimization algorithm is sequential where past as well as future customer responses affect targeted coupon face values and the direct marketer tries to determine the trade-off through natural experimentation. / text

Contribuição ao estudo da Erosão-corrosão de um Aço de Baixo Carbono na presença de Água contendo 3,5% de sal, areia e Inibidor de Corrosão / Contribution to Erosion-Corrosion study of a Low Carbon Steel in the presence of Water containing 3.5% salt, sand and Corrosion Inhibitor

Magalhães, Luciano da Rocha 09 March 2018 (has links)
Deep water oil production imposes several challenges for oil and gas companies, and among them, the wear suffered in the interior of the transportation pipelines due to the action of produced water (high salt content), gases and particulates, especially produced sand. The objective of this work was to study the erosion-corrosion of a low carbon steel in a flowloop under dynamic conditions: fluid with 3.5% NaCl, sand at a concentration of 40 g cm-3 and addition of a corrosion inhibitory substance, with a main focus on observing the possible interaction between the erosive agent and the inhibitor. For this purpose, we performed erosion-corrosion tests in a closed circuit of pipes of four inches of internal diameter and we applied the corrosion rate measurement techniques of mass loss coupons, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. We also monitored the concentration of inhibitor in the fluid and the modifications on the surface of the specimens by scanning electron microscopy. At the end of this work, we concluded that the steel presents a corrosion rate of 3.5 mm year-1 without the addition of inhibitor and 0.4 mm year-1 with the addition of inhibitor. We did not observe any direct interaction between the sand and corrosion inhibitor that could compromise the efficiency of the substance. We also concluded that electrochemical techniques can be successfully employed in dynamic conditions by means of a cell specifically designed for pipelines. The results showed that the cell and the technique were able to identify the synergistic effect of erosion-corrosion in the bottom of the pipe and also the action of the corrosion inhibitor. / Tese (Doutorado)

This work aims to investigate the efficiency of saponified coconut oil (SCO) as corrosion inhibitor and of microemulsified system (SCO + butanol + kerosene oil + distilled water), in saline medium, using an adapted instrumented cell, via techniques involving linear polarization resistance (LPR) and mass loss coupons (MLC). For this, curves of efficiency versus SCO concentration (ranging between 0 and 75 ppm) have been constructed. According to the obtained results, the following efficiency levels were reached with OCS: 98% at a 75 ppm concentration via the LPR method and 95% at 75 ppm via the MLC method. The microemulsified system, for a concentration of 15 ppm of SCO, obtained maximum inhibition of 97% (LPR) and 93% (MLC). These data indicate that it is possible to optimize the use of SCO in similar applications. Previous works have demonstrated that maximal efficiencies below 90% are attained, typically 65% as free molecules and 77% in microemulsified medium, via the LPR method in a different type of cell. Therefore, it can be concluded that the adapted instrumented cell (in those used methods) showed to be an important tool in this kind of study and the SCO was shown effective in the inhibition of the metal / Tensoativos v?m sendo alvo de interesse como inibidores de corros?o, pois funcionam como pel?culas protetoras sobre ?reas an?dicas e cat?dicas.
