Tato diplomová práce se věnuje výrobě vrstev grafitu/grafenu a meření jejich transportních vlastností v závislosti na relativní vlhkosti. Grafenové šupinky byly nanášeny pomocí mechanického odlupování . Pro kontaktování grafenových šupinek byla využita elektronová litografie a na pozorování byly využity optická mikroskopie, mikroskopie atomárních sil a elektronová mikroskopie. V práci jsou popsány jednotlivé kroky výroby, analýzy a měření transportních vlastností nanesených grafenových šupinek.

This diploma thesis concerns itself with fabrication and characterization of Schottky solar cell on the graphene/silicon interface. Schottky solar cells were manufactured using a front collector electrode from gold, silver and carbon. On the graphene/silicon interface of the Schottky solar cell an interlayer of Al2O3 or SiO2. For the purpose of IV characterization of the manufactured Schottky solar cell a measuring apparatus was assembled.

Nanometer Scale Protein Templates for Bionanotechnology Applications

Nanofabrication techniques were used to manufacture nanometer scale protein templates. The fabrication approach employs electron beam lithography (EBL) patterning on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) thiol (CH3O(CH2CH2O)17NHCO(CH2)2SH) self-assembled monolayers (SAM) on Au. The PEG SAM prevented protein surface adhesion and binding sites for protein were created in the SAM by EBL. Subsequent to EBL, the patterns in the PEG SAM were backfilled with 40-nm NeutrAvidin-coated fluorescent spheres (FluoSpheres). The spontaneous and directed immobilization of the spheres from a solution to the patterns resulted in high resolution protein patterns. The FluoSpheres could be arranged in any arbitrary pattern with ultimately only one or a few FluoSpheres at each binding site. Growth dynamics and SAM morphology of PEG on Au were studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). PEG SAMs on three types of Au with different microstructure were examined: thermally evaporated granular Au and two types of Au films produced by hydrogen flame annealing of granular Au, Au(111) and "terraced" Au (crystal orientation unknown). The different Au surfaces' substructure affected the morphology and mechanical properties of the PEG SAM. On Au(111), AFM imaging revealed monolayer formation through three distinct steps: island nucleation, island growth, and coalescence. The fine-structure of the SAM revealed dendritic island formation - an observation which can be explained by attractive intermolecular interactions and diffusion-limited aggregation. Island growth was not observed on the "terraced" Au. AFM studies of EBL patterned PEG SAMs on Au(111) revealed two different patterning mechanisms. At low doses, the pattern formation occurs by SAM ablation in a self-developing process where the feature depth is directly dose dependent. At higher doses electron beam induced deposition of material, so-called contamination writing, is seen in the ablated areas of the SAM. The balance between these two mechanisms is shown to depend on the geometry of the pattern. In addition to PEG SAMs, fibronectin monolayers on SiO2 surfaces were patterned by EBL. The areas exposed with EBL lose their functionality and do not bind anti-fibronectin. With this approach we constructed fibronectin templates and used them for cell studies demonstrating pattern dependent cell geometries and cell adhesion. / QC 20101008

Information för beslutsunderlag i trafiksituationer inom sjöfarten - hur hanterar vi den?

I detta examensarbete har jag undersökt förmågan hos nautiker att ta fram och tillgodogöra sig information från radar och ARPA för sitt beslutsunderlag i trafiksituationer. Syftet var att få förståelse i om fartygsbefäl haft svårigheter att få fram denna mycket relevanta information. Detta gjordes med hjälp av förstudier i form av intervjuer med erfarna fartygsbefäl. Dessa intervjuer gav kriterier som möjliggjorde analyseringen av 13 olycksfallsrapporter, vilket utgjorde litteraturstudien. Dessa rapporter var författade av engelska Department of Transport, Marine Investigation Branch(MAIB), Statenshaverikommission(SHK) och  Sjöfartsverkets rapportserie(SjöfR). Dessutom användes både sjö- och luftfartsrelaterade artiklar för framtagning av fakta. Slutsatserna visade att man i hälften av fallen använt sig av väldigt låg nivå på funktionalitet för sitt beslutsunderlag, men att även i de fall man använt mer avancerad funktionalitet fann man brister i tolkning av informationen för att i tid ta beslut för att undvika olyckor. / This is a study about the Navigating Mariners ability to locate and use information from the Radar and ARPA, before taking important decisions in Trafic Situations. The purpose was to acquire an understanding if there are some difficulties in receiving this important information. This purpose was accomplished by a pre-investigation using two interviews with experienced deck officers. This pre-study produced criterias, that made it possible to compare 13 Accident Reports. These reports were used as a litterature for the investigation. The Department of Transport, Marine Investigation Branch(MAIB), The Swedish Accident Investigation Board(SHK) and The Swedish Maritime Safety Inspectorate(SjöfR) had produced these reports. In addition to these reports, the author used both maritime- and aeronautical based articles in order to find more facts about the issues around the investigation. The findings showed that in half of the investigated accidents the mariners involved had used a low level of functionality before making the final decisions. It was also shown, that the ones that had used a very high level of functionality, before the accident, misinterpreted the information and failed to take the right decision in ample time before the accident.

Esophageal varices are expanded veins of the submucosa that develop in patients with portal hypertension. They develop as collaterals between the portal vein and the superior vena cava. Varices are seen when the HPVG rises >12mmHG and can lead to a life-threatening bleeding episode. Endoscopic band ligation (EBL) is the treatment of choice of acute variceal bleeding. It is also performed for primary and secondary prophylaxis of bleeding from esophageal varices. After EBL, patients are at risk of postinterventional bleeding. Therefore, patients are often hospitalized until endoscopy proves all applied ligation bands have dropped off. At present, there is no standardized algorithm for surveillance of patients after EBL. Furthermore, risk factors for bleeding complications after EBL are poorly evaluated. The available studies mostly investigated patient collectives .after endoscopic sclerotherapy. The aim of this study was to investigate bleeding behaviour after EBL, to make recommendations for in- and out-patient surveillance after EBL and to analyze independent risk factors for bleeding complications after EBL.

GOLD NANOSPHERES AND GOLD NANORODS AS LOCALIZED SURFACE PLASMON RESONANCE SENSORS

A novel localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor that differentiates between background refractive index changes and surface-binding of a target analyte (e.g. a target molecule, protein, or bacterium) is presented. Standard, single channel LSPR sensors cannot differentiate these two effects as their design allows only one mode to be coupled. This novel technique uses two surface plasmon modes to simultaneously measure surface binding and solution refractive index changes. This increases the sensitivity of the sensor. Different channels or modes can be created in sensors with the introduction of gold nanospheres or gold nanorods that act as receptor mechanisms. Once immobilization was achieved on gold nanospheres, the technique was optimized to achieve the same immobilization for gold nanorods to get the expected dual mode spectrum. Intricate fabrication methods are illustrated with using chemically terminated self assembled monolayers. Then the fabrication process advances from chemically silanized nanoparticles, on to specific and systematic patterns generated with the use of Electron Beam Lithography. Comparisons are made within the different methods used, and guidelines are set to create possible room for improvement. Some methods implemented failed, but there was a lot to learn from these unsuccessful outcomes. Finally, the applications of the dual mode sensor are introduced, and current venues where the sensors can be used in chemical and biological settings are discussed.

This thesis is dealing with application of Correlative Probe and Electron Microscopy. All measurements were carried out by atomic force microscope LiteScope which is designed especially to be combined with electron microscopes. Advantages of Correlative AFM/SEM Microscopy are demonstrated on selected samples from field of nanotechnology and material science. Application of the correlative imaging was proposed and then realized particularly in case of low-dimensional structures and thin films. Further, this thesis deals with the possibility of combining Correlative AFM/SEM Microscopy with other integrated techniques of an electron microscope such as Focused Ion Beam and Energy Dispersive X-rays Spectroscopy.

This diploma thesis is focused on the applications and fabrication of graphene membrane from graphene prepared by the chemical vapor deposition. Theoretical part deals with transport properties of the graphene and multiple scattering processes limiting the charge carrier mobility in this material. Included is short review of graphene membrane applications. Experimental part provides fabrication process for achieving suspended graphene device by utilizing electron beam lithography, focused ion beam, chemical etching and patterning of graphene. Graphene membrane is characterized by transport properties measurement and compared to non-suspended graphene.

Measurement of the energy spectrum of the BL Lac object PG1553+113 with the MAGIC telescope in 2005 and 2006

In dieser Doktorarbeit wurden im Rahmen des MAGIC Experimentes neue Datenanalysemethoden implementiert, die sich insbesondere fuer die Analyse von Ereignissen niedriger Gammastrahlungsenergie eignen. Die Methoden konnten erfolgreich in Monte Carlo Studien getestet und auf Beobachtungsdaten des Krebsnebels und der extragalaktischen Gammastrahlungsquelle PG1553+113 angewandt werden. Diese Methoden reichen von ''image cleaning'' Techniken und der Nutzung neuer Bildparameter bis zu fortgeschrittenen g/h-Separations- und Energieabschaetzungsverfahren. Zum ersten Mal wurden die Vorteile von Klassifikations- und Regressionsbaeumen in der Gamma-Astrophysik ausgenutzt, um existierende klassische Methoden zu verbessern. Die Analyse - getestet an Monte Carlo Daten - bewies ihre Zuverlaessigkeit bei der Untersuchung der Gammastrahlungsemission des Krebsnebels, wobei ein hochsignifikanter Exzess im Energiebereich unterhalb 100 GeV in nur 1.7 h nachgewiesen werden konnte. Die Analyse von Daten des BL Lac Objekts PG1553+113 ergab signifikante Exzesse fuer Beobachtungen in den Jahren 2005 und 2006. Das kombinierte alpha-Histogramm zeigt ein Signal mit einer Signifikanz, die 8 sigma ueberschreitet. Bei der weiteren Analyse konnte ein differentielles Energiespektrum fuer die kombinierten Daten aus den Jahren 2005 und 2006 erstellt werden. Der integrale Fluss oberhalb von 200 GeV wurde wie folgt bestimmt: F(> 200 GeV) = (1.7+-0.3) 10^(-12)/(cm^2 s), der spektrale Index betraegt Gamma = 3.6+-0.3. Dieses Spektrum konnte daraufhin verwendet werden, um die (unbekannte) Rotverschiebung von PG1553+113 auf z / In this thesis new data analysis methods for the MAGIC experiment were implemented, which are especially suited for the investigation of low energy gamma-ray events. They were successfully tested by means of Monte Carlo studies and applied to observational data of the Crab Nebula and of the extragalactic gamma-ray source PG1553+113. These methods extend from image cleaning techniques and the utilization of new image parameters to sophisticated g/h-separation and energy estimation approaches. For the first time in gamma-ray astrophysics the advantages of classification and regression trees were exploited in order to improve existing `classical'' methods. The analysis procedure - tested on Monte Carlo data - was demonstrated to be reliable in the investigation of the Crab Nebula gamma-ray emission yielding a significant excess in the energy range below 100 GeV in only 1.7 h observation time. The analysis of data taken on the BL Lac PG1553+113 yielded significant excesses for both years 2005 and 2006. The combined alpha histogram shows a signal in excess of 8 sigma. In the further analysis a spectrum could be derived for the combined data sets of 2005 and 2006. The integral flux above 200 GeV could be derived as F(> 200 GeV) = (1.7+-0.3) 10^(-12)/(cm^2 s), the power-law index was measured to be Gamma = 3.6+-0.3. This spectrum was used to constrain the redshift z of PG1553+113 with the result z
