Community resources utilized by the elementary schools of an industrial city in MassachusettsSilveira, Leonard A. January 1952 (has links)
Thesis (Ed.M.)--Boston University / It is the purpose of this study,
to determine the extent to which the elementary schools of an
industrial city in Massachusetts, are utilizing the resources
of the community. Although there is much material available as
to those community resources that are being utilized and best
suited for elementary schools, as well as suggestions and techniques
for making the best use of them, little data are available
as to a method or plan of determining to what extent the
elementary schools are utilizing the resources of their
particular community.
Through research, it is hoped that a representative list
of those community resources that are being utilized by individual teachers or groups of teachers throughout the country can be evolved, and a questionnaire, in the form of a check list,
built. In this check list, the community resources will be
classified and placed in the following categories: (1) Field
trips, (2) Resource Visitors, (3) Interviews with Resource
People, (4) Collections and Exhibits, (5) Contacts with
Community Agencies, (6) Local Resource Surveys, and (7) Community Service Enterprises.

The Status of the Elementary School Principalship in UtahHansen, Sherman 01 May 1953 (has links)
The aim of this study is to record the status of the elementary school principalship in the State of Utah during the 1951-1952 school year. The problem arose from a situation in which the writer, as President of the Utah Elementary School Principal's Association, was continually asked questions pertaining to the status of this group, and because there was a scarcity of current information available upon which to base reliable answers to these requests. This situation led to the formulation of the study herein presented--a survey of conditions as they existed in Utah during the 1951-1952 school year. It should reveal conditions as they were, and serve as a basis for their improvement by the elementary principals of Utah. It should also be helpful to the institutions in the state engaged in training administrators for this position.

Incentivizing Fruit, Vegetable, and Physical Activity Level Change: Expansion and Evaluation of the Fit Game Program for Healthy Behavior Change in Elementary SchoolsJoyner, Damon L. 01 August 2018 (has links)
Researchers in the Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science department and Psychology department sought to improve healthy behaviors in elementary schools such as fruit and vegetable consumption (FV) and daily physical activity (PA). We chose to use a healthy behavior program called the “FIT Game” that has successfully increased FV consumption among elementary-aged children over short periods of time. Our aim was to improve the program by lowering operating costs, adjusting its materials to target PA and see if it could maintain healthy eating improvements over a longer period of time. Our series of research shows encouraging results: short term improvements in healthy eating using the low-cost FIT Game; improvements in PA; and maintained improvements in FV consumption over longer durations.
Improving healthy behaviors such as FV consumption and daily PA are important goals that can improve future health. Using the FIT Game intervention represents a low-cost and sustainable way to work toward these goals.

Folkskolläraren i stad och på landsbygd - En komparativ studie mellan Halmstads Folkskola och Alsingska skolan i Veinge socken, södra Halland 1832-1882Jönsson, Ingela January 2007 (has links)

During the 19th century the Elementary school and its teachers emerge in the city of Halmstad and in the parish of Veinge as well as in Sweden overall. The aim of the essay is to enthrone these teachers’ conditions and a comparison is done between the teachers in these two places. The mate-rial that is used is for example minutes from the board of education in Veinge and the city council of Halmstad, collected works about the elementary school of Halmstad as well as litera-ture regarding the subject. The essay starts with a short background history about the Elementary school and its teachers. Then it continues to discuss whether it was important to have a teacher’s education or not, how the teachers were treated in the community, the teachers’ work and its biggest problem, and finally, salary, dismissal and pension. The essay shows that differences as well as similarities exist, which proves the complexity of the teachers’ conditions.
