The research investigated the challenges experienced by teachers of basic education in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the classroom. The basis for the theoretical discussion was supported by authors from the fields of Philosophy, Education and Communication who have dedicated their research to the impacts of ICTs throughout society, including Castells, Lemos, Lévy, Martínez, Rada, Sacristán, Sancho and Tedesco. To answer the problem question: how do ICT contribute to mediation for new teaching and learning practices in the classroom ?, this research considered that, when thinking about education in the information society, it is necessary to reflect with teachers on aspects that Technologies, what their objectives are in relation to the training process. The objective of the research was to discuss the ICT space in the pedagogical practice of primary education teachers, who work in a public school in a city on the coast of the State of São Paulo, as well as to understand the challenges for pedagogical use of the tools in the classroom. class. In order to understand the complexity of the study, the methodological choice was based on a qualitative approach, with the data collection procedures being the focus group, observation, semi-structured interview and questionnaire. The results pointed out dilemmas and possibilities in the use of ICTs in teaching practice, which are real challenges for the effective incorporation of technological resources in the classroom. In relation to the challenges pointed out by the research participants, are: a) the need for ongoing training; B) lack of necessary infrastructure in relation to equipment and access to the Internet; C) difficulties in planning the use of equipment; D) difficulties to maintain authority before the student in the midst of the attractiveness of technological resources. Faced with the challenges cited by the teachers, possibilities arose for the use of technological resources in the classroom and for communication with parents and students, through technologies that allowed distance interactivity. The research data showed that the experiences of teachers and managers with the use of technological tools advance in teaching and learning practices, as the teacher has favorable conditions to explore more their potential for interaction and communication.

Teacher Dispositions in Special Education Training to Promote Persistence in the Field

Chaney, Megan 01 January 2017 (has links)
A teacher's disposition is a valued factor in special education; however, preservice teacher training in California higher education institutions does not require a focus on dispositions. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine whether common dispositions were associated with retention among teachers with comparable experience and preparation in special education. The study was grounded in constructivist learning theories including experiential learning, transformational learning, reflective practice, communities of practice, and situated learning. Data collection included responses to the Teacher Dispositions Index survey from 28 teachers in the partner school district. Results of multiple regression analyses indicated that effective communication and commitment to ethical professional behavior were common dispositions among persistent special education teachers. This research study affirmed special education teacher dispositions are difficult to define and assess. Future research is recommended regarding the dispositions of effective communication, commitment to ethical professional behavior, and supplemental dispositions present in the teaching profession. The doctoral project included a professional development seminar to foster persistence among special education teachers. Results may be used to increase percentages of persistent teachers in special education programs.

Examining the most economical ways in which medicines can be both presribed and dispensed in Saudi outpatient hospitals : a study carried out, exclusively in Saudi Arabian Hospitals, to determine the consraints, problems and possible solutions to effective medicines supply for outpatients

Alyousif, Abdulmohsen A. January 2012 (has links)
Backround. Based of my personal observations when employed as a pharmacist in a Saudi hospital it was clear that there were problems with medicine supply to outpatients. This thesis was designed to scientifically investigate the types of shortages, the reason(s) for such problems and potential solutions to the problem. Methods . This study was undertaken using a variety of experimental techniques to determine the views and perceptions of patients, pharmacists, physicians and administrative staff of the hospital under examination. To establish the scale of the problem: focus groups (n=25), structured questionnaires, structured interviews/meetings for health care professionals and a national survey (n=650) were the research tools used to objectively determine the relevant data. The data were analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. Results and Discussion That there was a real problem was quickly established in the data obtained from patients. A similar finding was made for each of the 'professional groups'. The central problem was one of shortages of medicines for prescriptions presented by outpatients. It was not a case the medicines were simply not available because they were never stocked but rather a simple shortage in the dispensary stock. It was established the lack of medicines was not due to central budget arrangements but involved prescribing quantities outside of the hospital guidelines which no degree of planning could accommodate. There was also the very unexpected finding that a prescription could be filled in a variety of hospital dispensaries as individuals could access more than one hospital or they could consult more than one physician for the same condition and obtain effectively double the supplies. Communications between the hospital and patients and the health care professionals could all be improved by perhaps increasing the knowledge of the patient about the correct use of medicines. Recommendations. A series of recommendations for future work is provided

Educação nas redes: professores em cotidianos de produções televisivas / Education in networks: teachers in everyday television productions

Rosa Helena de Mendonça 04 February 2014 (has links)
What do professionals in education do in a television production? This research is an attempt to answer this question not only through conversations with the practitioners engaged in television production but also through sources such as edited programmes, arguments , texts and scripts. In doing so, I intend to understand the net of knowledge and meanings related to the so called space-times of action (here understood as an in-between place belonging to both education and communication fields) of these professionals. This work, under the perspective of everyday life studies, is aligned with the research group entitled Curriculum, educational networks and images, from the Education and Image Laboratory of the post graduation program in Education (ProPEd) of the University of Rio de Janeiro State (UERJ). It concentrates in talks with and narratives of educators who worked and have been working either as members of TV Escola which belongs to the Ministry of Education (MEC) or consultants of a particular educational television program entitled Salto para o Futuro. The ones responsible for the pedagogical consultancy of the channels Encuentro and Pakapaka from Argentina have also been interviewed thanks to a doctorate program supported by Capes. The theoretical framework is based on the writings of Michel de Certeau, Nilda Alves and Ines Barbosa de Oliveira; besides them, the contributions of the sociological thinkers Pierre Bourdieu and Boaventura de Souza Santos as well as some representatives of cultural studies such as Jesús Martín Barbero, Nestor Canclini, Stuart Hall, Homi Bhabha, among others, have also been used. Issues about the other and alterity have found inspiration in Carlos Skliar and Jorge Larrosas texts. The possible conclusions made highlight the relevance of the actions of these professionals (teachers) in this space-time television environment

Nové přístupy v prezentaci a popularizaci archeologie. Výzkum didaktických aspektů současné role archeologie ve společnosti / New Approaches in Presentation and Popularization of Archaeology. Research of the Didactic Aspects of the Archaeological Contribution to Contemporary Society

Puhačová, Veronika January 2018 (has links)
This thesis concentrates on new approaches in the popularization of archaeology in the light of its social contribution to the society of the 21st century. Its main research issue is the problem of didactical transformation of the archaeological data and knowledge for the needs of an efficient popularization of the discipline. An effective popularization is considered to be a complex of interdisciplinary processes leading to a multi-layered usage of archaeological in-formation and data by the general public. The author as well emphasizes the substantial educational dimension of archaeological popularization. According to this fact she tries to apply the pieces of knowledge gained from field didactics, museum education and experiential learning on the duplex communication with general public. Thesis consists form a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with information and experiences from public archaeology, history, sociology and philosophy and analyses both familiar and neglected roles of archaeology within the contemporary society and situates them into a broader educational context. The second - practical - part of the thesis focuses on new approaches, methods and themes within the research issue, and introduces several model examples of good praxis as well as seven...

This research is based on the qualitative approach, particularly the study of an educational case. The objective of the research is to investigate the contribution of the course "Cyberculture and teaching practice" to the empowerment of teachers from a state school in São Paulo (Brazil), placing them as authors of their teaching practice. The analysis seeks to show the limits and the possibilities of the course, for the empowerment of these teachers, in a perspective that places them in a copyright perspective. The research tries to observe the contradictions of the investigated phenomenon. The theoretical framework stands among the following semantic fields: education policy and teacher training in Brazil; education and cyberculture; teacher training (particularly thecontinuous in-service training); empowerment (according to Freire’s ideas). It was developed the documental analysis of collective pedagogical work classes, the descriptive statistical analysis of objective data from the structured questionnaire and the content thematic analysis of teachers’ speeches, in the semistructured interviews. The survey findings confirm the assumption that the course has contributed to the empowerment of teachers, by improving the continuous in-service training of teachers, in which they arethe authors of their teaching practice. However, there remain two challenges: a) the need to expand the technological fluency of teachers as well as the critical reading of technologies, realizing its power and its contradictions, in the field of education; b) the need to extend the time of the continuous in-service teachers’ training, emphasizing that this challenge goes beyond the scope of immediate actions of schools, by sliding public policies of teacher training. The limit of this research is typical of the case studies: in terms of generalization, this kind of research can be implemented only in similar circumstances. In convergence with several studies visited in the literature review, the conclusion of the present research points to the need for public policies for teachers’ continuing education, establishing a more dialogical relationship with them, buy developing courses much more respondent to theirdemands, rather than submit to the dictates of multilateral organizations.

Knowledge, attitudes and treatment-seeking behaviour towards Malaria among adult residents of Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga province, South Africa

January 2009 (has links)
Master of Public Health - MPH / Introduction:Highest-risk malaria areas in South Africa share borders with Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. Ongoing migration between these neighbouring areas impacts on malaria control interventions. For example, 30% of the adult population in Bushbuckridge originate from Mozambique. Despite these dynamics, no studies were found which investigated knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards malaria in Bushbuckridge. Methods:This study was undertaken as a descriptive cross-sectional survey. A field-piloted structured questionnaire was administered to 602 randomly selected households, where only one household member was interviewed. Interviewees were heads of households, but in their absence, responsible adults above 18 years were included. Results:Of 602 respondents, 93% (n=559, 95% CI: 90.4 – 94.7%) had heard about malaria, mainly from health facilities (29%, n=175) and radios (20%,n=119). Most respondents correctly associated malaria with mosquito bites. There were no differences in knowledge of the causes of malaria between males and females, whereas age and educational level influenced malaria knowledge.Younger and more educated respondents were more knowledgeable than their older and less educated counterparts. Despite 91% of respondents (n=546, 95% CI: 88.0 – 92.8%) knowing that malaria can kill if untreated; only 48% could identify one or two symptoms of malaria. Most (99%, n=595, 95% CI: 97.5 – 99.5%) of the respondents would seek treatment at health facilities,82% (n=488) of whom would do so within 24 hours of onset of malaria symptoms.Discussion and conclusion : Most respondents showed a fair amount of knowledge on the causes of malaria, but not enough people were able to correctly identify the key symptoms of malaria. Health facility and radio were the main sources of malaria information. Most respondents sought treatment at health care facilities, contrary to most African countries where treatment is first sought at non-public health facilities.Word count: 288
