Analyse des performances en langue écrite d'élèves issus de l'immigration en Région de Bruxelles Capitale : Etudes Longitudinales/ Analysis of written language performance of pupils from emigrant families in Area of Brussels City: Longitudinal Studies.

Akif, Zohra 29 November 2007 (has links)
The objective of this study is to determine the difficulties encountered in reading and spelling by children from emigrant families (2nd and 3rd generation) compared with their pars autochthons registered in the same classes. The sample includes 357 pupils in positive discrimination elementary schools from the area of Brussels City. A longitudinal follow-up from 3rd to 5th primary grade was also carried out. The results enabled us to evaluate the performances in spoken and written language of these pupils and to highlight the mechanisms of reading and writing and the factors which explain psycholinguistics delays. Two training programs, one phonologic, the other syntactic were elaborate in order to measure their effect on the differential of skills.

Teach for America and rural southern teacher labour supply : an exploratory case study of Teach for America as a supplement to teacher labour policies in the Mississippi-Arkansas Delta, 2008-2010

Dwinal, Mallory A. January 2012 (has links)
The recent growth of Teach For America (TFA) has enabled it to substantially expand the teacher labour supply in many rural Southern communities, one of its largest and fastest-growing partnership subsets. Though it is generally accepted that these areas face more severe teacher shortages than most other regions in the country, there is little research as to how these staffing challenges arise or how they might be resolved; TFA’s potential to grow the rural Southern teacher supply thus signals a promising opportunity in need of further research. This work offers a case study of teacher labour outcomes in the Mississippi-Arkansas Delta, TFA’s oldest and largest rural Southern partnership site. In this region, local schools have experienced a 600 per-cent increase in corps member presence since 2008; consequently, TFA provided anywhere from a quarter to a half of the area’s new teacher labour supply each year from 2008 to 2010. A mixed-methods analysis illuminates both the causes of Delta teacher shortages and TFA’s potential to address these vacancies. Within the Delta, local schools face chronic teacher shortages because the communities they serve are overwhelmingly poor, geographically isolated, and racially segregated. TFA appears to have targeted the Delta communities where teacher labour policies have systematically fallen short, as it partners with districts bearing the greatest share of the region’s aggregate teacher vacancies. Additional statistical testing reveals that amongst these hard-to-staff districts, TFA has further focussed its resources into the schools that serve more rural, less educated, and/or predominantly African American populations. In this way, TFA funnels its corps members into the very districts where state reform efforts have struggled most, thus serving as a powerful resource for realigning ‘sticky’ outcomes in the most hard-to-staff Delta school districts. These findings notwithstanding, closer examination reveals significant drawbacks and limitations to current TFA outcomes in the rural Southern Delta. TFA does not saturate hard-to-staff school districts enough to produce statistically significant changes in local teacher vacancy rates. Instead, the programme appears to have established an unofficial threshold for the number of teachers placed per district; once this ceiling has been reached, additional corps members are funnelled into a new area regardless of the original district’s remaining need. Additionally, there is no long-term ‘exit strategy’ to help Delta districts employing TFA corps members to eventually cultivate their own high-quality teacher labour supply, thus leaving them perpetually dependent on TFA to staff their classrooms. Preliminary evidence suggests that state governments could address these shortcomings through 1) increased financial support for TFA to fully saturate vacancies in current partnership districts, as well as 2) the simultaneous development of grow-your-own teacher certification programmes in rural Delta districts. The evidence suggests that these two strategies would improve TFA as a targeted teacher recruitment strategy for hard-to-staff communities both in the Delta and across the programme’s nine other rural Southern partnership sites.

Brassard, Geneviève 02 1900 (has links)
SUMMARY The students at the elementary level of education demonstrate a great level of difficulty when transferring grammatical concepts taught previously in their French classes. This research wishes to verify if teaching students to identify the classes of words using the inductive method combined with specific approaches or integrated methods would increase the students’ facility to locate determinants, nouns, adjectives and verbs in their own written productions in order to correctly carry out the grammatical agreements. The data is gathered from six written productions written during several weeks by three groups of students in their second year of cycle two. The results of the experimental groups (one trying out the integrated approach and the other, the specific approach) are compared with those obtained from a control group. At the end of the experiment, the results were maintained, between the pretest and the post-test, with regards to the identification of the determinants, the nouns and the adjectives for the three groups. However, the results decreased in regards to the identification of the verbs. With regards to the grammatical agreements, all the groups improved their agreements determinant-name. Moreover, the control groups had better results in the agreement of the adjective. Also, only the group trying out the specific approach succeeded in maintaining its results regarding the agreement of the verb, whereas the two other groups obtained weaker results at the end of the experimentation.

O ensino do Direito e a separação dos eixos teóricos e práticos: interrelações entre aprendizagem e ação docente / Legal education and the separation of the theoretical and practical axes: interrelations between learning and teaching actions.

Iocohama, Celso Hiroshi 12 May 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to identify the deviation between theoretical and practical Legal teaching and analyze the resulting issues towards the students in a study case, considering curriculum matrices of forty Law courses. By observing the ontological crisis of Law itself and the need for a critical view of the pluralism of its paradigms, difficulties faced in legal education since its beginning are analyzed in light of the teaching actions considering their repercussions on the students actions. Recognizing the lack of a well-defined and systematically conducted formation of the higher education professor in general, the relations, in Law, among teaching and the specificities of the legal means were added. On the deviation between theory and practice, this study shows, initially, the organization structure of Legal education under the National Curriculum Guidelines with framings for the axes of fundamental, professional and practical formation. The standard distribution of the subjects conceiving such theoretical-practical deviation as a result of the internship at the latter years of the course and the difficulties for the interdisciplinary application of the compartmentalized view experienced in Legal education were found by comparing the curriculum matrices of forty Law courses. In order to explore the existing speeches from the manifestations both students and professors in the Law courses of a private university, experiences throughout the internship of Civil Procedure and its relations with the theoretical subjects of Civil Procedure taught at year two and three were focused. Prevalence of oral exposition, lower use of diversified teaching procedures, and prevalence of non-appreciation of the practical activities conducted during theoretical classes were identified. Regarding learning, the contribution of the Meaningful Learning Theory in Ausubel was demonstrated to enrich the theoreticalpractical relation, even in a context of predominantly theoretical classes. By way of proposals regarding the diversification of the actions alongside the Law course, the importance of the professors role in learning was highlighted. Lectures were also revisited to recognize them as a possible improvement procedure as it promotes practical actions to follow theoretical contents. To finish, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) methodology was presented as an alternative thinking for the transformation of Legal education, structured and characterized with focus on student action and its learning.

The aim of this research is to investigate teacher trainers´ identity. The premise is that it is possible to identify a common culture among teacher trainers that reveals a teaching professionality and that an identity is built and transmitted. The investigation aimed at analyzing the characteristics that reveal the identitary configuration of teacher trainers in a public university in Paraná. The theoretical framework is based on the sociological perspective of identity proposed by Dubar, in addition to the concepts related to Brazilian higher education and higher education teaching. It is an empirical research that follows a qualitative approach based on the presuppositions of hermeneutics. The participants are teacher trainers that teach at the teaching degree courses at the State University of Ponta Grossa – UEPG. The data collection was carried out in three stages: 1) an online questionnaire (N=46); 2) a semi structured interview (N=21), and 3) a focal group (N= 10). The methodology used to organize, treat and analyze the data included the quantitative support of Clusters Analysis (CA) and Discursive Text Analysis (DTA) for the qualitative organization. The process of clustering thequestionnaire data indicated three groups or cluster of teachers according to profile similarity: I - Permanent teachers, II – Permanent and Temporary Teachers and III – Temporary teachers. The data analysis demonstrated that despite their personal trajectories, the teachers studied show identity characteristics and share common wishes. This allow us to affirm that there is a common culture shared among teacher trainers at the UEPG; a culture that has been developed during the process of professional socialization, confirming the premise that teachers´ identity is built and transmitted as a result of the interaction among teachers, their personal and professional experiences. The results also indicated that the characteristics of teacher trainers´ identity are closely related to the link they have with the Higher Education Institution and their work contract, which is also a determining factor to the activities (teaching, research and outreach projects) they carry out at their institutions. The conclusion is that there are significant differences between being a university professor and a university teacher trainer because teacher trainers should have knowledge related to teaching to teach and school experience, which in turn are not necessary touniversityprofessorsfrom bachelordegrees.

This work assumptions that there is a Deaf culture; however, this is still not socially or academically, recognized; this condition, is essential to affirmation of Deaf rights. The main claim sustained here is a Deaf Curriculum, made up by Deaf community which the natural language applied is LIBRAS; because is a right to the deaf subject an education that recognizes and values its own difference, characteristic and peculiarities: a Deaf Culture. Current education is not able to guarantee the rights to a Deaf subject mainly because of incapacity and/or unaccepting of their own culture and identity and it’s happening because of the knowledge lack around Deaf culture. Also impacts directly on their development and specially does not supports their rights as citizens as well. To investigate this issue this doctoral dissertation presents an study from the main experts in Deaf Culture; analysis of some studies regarding Deaf Culture; theories of identity, and also of Deaf Identities and also the epistemology of Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS. Also it’s going to present a research in curriculum, raising the critical points regarding of pre-training, bringing issues about political rights of Deaf community, we propose the curriculum that is presented by the Deaf, the Curriculum in LIBRAS. To sustain the whole theory, looked for discuss the practice of all these ideas and reflections as well. The Deaf communities was the subject of this research and were analyzed and observed directly under the school space, choosing spaces that is prioritizing the use of LIBRAS to teaching, as the case of current Bilingual Schools (it’s offered in few places in Brazil, since it is not an offer guaranteed, schools where is being using the native language of the Deaf). It has been proven that experiences shared within of deaf community allow the Deaf to feel able and lives an own culture The deaf that grown up in contact with other Deaf, are raised to live in a Deaf reality, since that period, up to adults, participating in the Deaf movements, building up their own identity and enable to enjoy fully their citizenship, in full exercise of their rights / O objetivo central desta tese é desvelar o elo entre a cultura Surda e o currículo escolar e a importância de se trabalhar com ambos unificados como um só: um Currículo Surdo.
