An investigation into the relationship between philosophical principle and artistic practice with reference to the role of dance in education

Bloomfield, Anne January 1986 (has links)
The thesis commences with the examination of the place of dance in British society, and focusses on its social and cultural role, while proffering explanations pertaining to its metaphysical and symbolical significance. It is evident that changes in political and religious attitude led to censure of folkloristic pastimes and celebrations of dancing, but it transpires that during the Restoration Period a resurgence of the popularity and acceptance of dance occurred in both theatrical and social contexts. The role of the dancing master is depicted in the creation of a mannered society, when aesthetically, artistically, and technically, dance was valued. The function of dance as a form of physical exercise is examined and concludes the introductory section. In establishing the role of dance in education, a study of early nineteenth century educational philosophers and practitioners is made, and the implications of Swedenborgianism on their work is investigated. European and American influences in the form of militarism, the gymnastic movement, health and dress reform are also examined. The founding of the Women's Colleges of Physical Education established dance as an aspect of physical training, a role reinforced by the Board of Education through the publication of a series of Syllabuses on Physical Training. Drills, singing games and maypole dances were taught in schools prior to the Folk Dance Revival, when morris, sword and country dances assumed a place with court and national dances, which were also performed by children. The Modern Dance Movement developed during the inter-war period and was typified by a variety of neo-classical, rhythmical dance forms that emphasised datural movement and spiritual expression. An account is included on the implementation of modern educational dance during the post-war years, and an appraisal of contemporary practice is made. The conclusion forms a summary and analytical argument relative to the changing role of dance in education.

Corpocriação: ensaios mareados sobre caminhos de criação poético-corporal em educação / Corpocriação: seasick essays on poetic creation-body paths in education

Rodrigues, Barbara Muglia 18 April 2016 (has links)
This investigation deals with the body-creation phenomenon in body existence (Merleau-Ponty, 2011), its creative processes, dance and consequences for the education of sensibility (Ferreira-Santos & Almeida, 2011, 2012) educational process. In a poetic-phenomenological perspective, an essayistic and photographic style is adopted as a more coherent textual form to treat the investigated processes, its comprehension and communication of experiences Larrosa-Bondía, 2002) under the existential rule of a anthropo-philosophical tradition (Ferreira-Santos, 1999, 2000, 2010; Severino, 1983; Gusdorf, 1979, 2003) that interlace the notions of person, corporeality and myth. With the privileged locus of the Dance Group of the Lab_Arte Laboratório Experimental de Arte-educação & Cultura (Experimental Laboratory of Art-education & Culture) of the School of Education of the University of São Paulo, that acts in the sensitive formation of educators, especially during initial undergraduate studies, this study is based on the investigative style of the mythhermeneutic (Ferreira-Santos & Almeida, 2011, 2012; Ferreira-Santos, 1999, 2008, 2010) and of the existence phenomenology (Merleau-Ponty, 2011; Bachelard, 1988, 1990, 1997, 2003, 2008). It presents and interprets the poetic-corporeal creation processes experienced by the participants using the symbolic-hermeneutic categories of vertigo, whirlpool and vortex (Ferreira-Santos, 2000; Ferreira- Santos et al, 2007) and reaffirms the importance of dance, corporal arts or presence arts (Azevedo, 2013) during these formation processes. In this sense, the sea is the epistemological category of analysis, investigative metaphor, and main articulating symbol of this investigation in the perspective of liquid ossature, of the body -creation phenomenon in the dual simultaneous movement captured by this research: body-creation as a constructed work of art and body-creation as a constitution process.

O World Café e o aprendizado pelo diálogo: limites e possibilidades de um território de sentidos no processo de formação: \"diagnóstico socioambiental na APA Embu Verde: educação ambiental para a sustentabilidade na bacia do Rio Cotia\", Embu das Artes, SP / The World Café and the learning process through dialogue: limits and possibilities of a territory of meanings at the educational project: APA Embu Verde social and environmental diagnosis: environmental education to sustainability at Cotia river watershed, Embu das Artes, SP, Brazil

Fernandes, Maria Eugênia Seixas de Arruda Camargo 29 June 2015 (has links)
This research aims to comprehend the process of building a territory of meanings through dialogue within the framework of an environmental education project. We sought to investigate the sense of belonging and connections established between people and the environment at the Embu Verde environmental protected area through a process of dialogue and collective creation for a reading of world (FREIRE, 1996). Situated in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, in the city of Embu das Artes, the APA (Environmental Protected Area) Embu Verde is a conservation unity recently created by a municipal law (n. 108/2008). This research is inserted into a bigger project called APA Embu Verde Social and Environmental Diagnosis, financially supported by FEHIDRO (Water Resources State Fund), which is composed by multiple stakeholders and institutions including the public sector, civil society and University of São Paulo. In this context we used The World Café methodology (BROWN, 2001) which is included at the Art of Hosting approach, a set of innovative methodologies to deal with complex issues. We sought through this study to answer the question: In which way The World Café, as a dialogue method, can contribute to the environmental education process? Through the opportunity of a Capes/Fulbright scholarship we could deeply understand the methodology principles in contact to The World Café Community Foundation. We did 12 interviews with host leaderships who have been using such an approach in various fields in the city of Columbus, Ohio (US) to deal with complex issues in areas like Health, Education, Homelessness, Food Security. The results highlights the strong learning component present in such methodologies and the personal journey of each host as an important part of the process. The theoretical reference has multidisciplinary sources, with the authors working on different fields, like Education and Complexity (FREIRE, MORIN), Environmental Education (SORRENTINO, CARVALHO, SAUVÉ, JACOBI). The analysis of the data was based on hermeneutics, which is a symbolic interpretation with an anthropological approach through an interpretative journey (FERREIRA-SANTOS, 2006) in the field of Anthropology of Education.

An international study of curricular organizers for the study of technology

Barnes, James L. 03 February 2004 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to identify the key descriptors of a definition of technology and curricular organizers for use in the study of technology. Seven panels were used for the three round Delphi to identify the key descriptors and curricular organizers. The panels included: (1) technology educators, (2) philosophers of education, (3) philosophers of technology, (4) historians of technology, (5) anthropologists of technology, (6) futurists, (7) industrialists/business leaders. A Thurstone and Chave Method of Equal Appearing Intervals was used to assign scale and Q values to each item ranked in the Q sort. An 80th centile was used for an item to achieve a consensus. The results of both research questions were rank ordered based on scale value from highest to lowest. Fourteen key descriptors of a definition of technology obtained a consensus. These are innovation; invention; creative; extends human capabilities (physical, social ,and intellectual); a process (change, individual, corporate, design, creative, and systematic); extension of human potential; problem solving; purposeful human manipulation of the material world; closely linked to science but not simply applied science, body of knowledge; used to solve problems and create opportunities; played an important role in the emergence of Homo sapiens; a system of tools, knowledge, and behaviors associated with the exploitation of environments; and has social, economic, political, and environmental impacts. Seven curricular organizers achieved a consensus. These are problem solving; process organizers (creativity, enterprise, systems, inventions, and problem solving); the process of technology; design and innovation; research and development; and awareness of implications and potential of technology (health, food, communication, production, and control). / Ed.
