As subcontractors, electrical contractors have been facing unfavorable environments, with problems such as constrained job site areas, schedule interference, and inefficient communication with other trades. To achieve desired goals more efficiently, electrical contractors require a more systematic and effective project management strategy. The primary goal of this research is to develop continuous task strings that pair pre-construction planning (PCP) with relevant project execution (PE) tasks in order for electrical contractors to achieve significantly better performance. Incorporating several statistical analyses, the research demonstrates the effects of continuous task strings on project performance in terms of cost and schedule success. The results reveal that the levels of task string usage are significantly correlated to project success. Moreover, task strings have significant leveraged effects on project performance: project performance can be improved by stringing together related PCP and PE tasks as opposed to performing either PCP or PE task individually. The research further suggests the specific high-value task strings that significantly increase the likelihood of achieving successful project outcomes. Ultimately, by elucidating the relationship between pre-construction planning and project execution tasks, the research can help electrical contractors accomplish significantly better performance through effective project management strategies. / text

Att arbeta i projekt har blivit vanligare i dagens organisationer. En bransch där projekt ochprojektledare är ofta förekommande är eventbranschen, eftersom ett evenemang precis som ettprojekt, har ett tydligt start- och slutdatum. För ett framgångsrikt projekt är effektivitet viktigthos projektledaren och uppsatsen behandlar därför effektivt projektledarskap. Effektivitet ärett komplext begrepp och därmed svårt att definiera, vilket även effektivt projektledarskap är.Uppsatsens syfte är därför att få en tydligare bild av vad detta innebär inom eventbranschen.Den belyser även kompetenser och färdigheter som är av betydelse för en effektivprojektledare.Uppsatsen baseras på en kvalitativ undersökning där semistrukturerade intervjuer utgörempirin. Intervjuerna är genomförda med sju respondenter från fem olika eventorganisationersom arbetar i projekt. I den teoretiska referensramen behandlas områdena eventprojekt,projektledarskap, effektivitet samt effektivt projektledarskap för att skapa en teoretisk grund.Teorin tillsammans med empirin bildar en analys där den effektiva projektledarensfärdigheter, en effektiv organisation, ett framgångsrikt projekt, effektiv personalledning samtdefinitionen av effektivitet diskuteras.Resultatet av uppsatsen är att effektivitet är ett sätt att mäta framgång på, där kommunikation,fokus på mål, beslutsamhet och ett situationsanpassat ledarskap är grunderna för effektivprojektledning. Att utnyttja tid och resurser optimalt, fördela ansvar och sätta tydliga rollerbidrar även till effektivitet i ett projekt. Det är viktigt för en projektledare att ha kunskap omatt ett effektivt arbetssätt kan leda till framgångsrika projekt och finns denna kunskapuppkommer troligtvis en strävan om att bli mer effektiv som projektledare.

Pirmojoje darbo dalyje aptariama lyderio elgsenos teorijų raida, pritaikymo aplinkybės, efektyvi projekto vadyba ir kiti veiksniai, lemiantys projekto efektyvumą. Antrojoje dalyje pristatoma lyderių elgsenos įtakos 2007-2013 m. Latvijos - Lietuvos - Baltarusijos bendradarbiavimo per sieną programos (ENPI) projektų efektyvumui tyrimo metodologija, aptariami trys tyrimo etapai, kuriuose dalyvauja dvi ekspertų grupės - 3 ENPI programos koordinatoriai ir 10 ENPI projektų lyderių bei ENPI programos puslapio socialiniame tinkle Facebook pasekėjai. Trečia darbo dalis pristato tyrimo rezultatus ir efektyvaus ENPI programos projektų lyderio elgsenos modelį, kuriame aprašoma, koks projekto lyderis ir kokia jo elgsena įtakoja tam tikrus projekto efektyvumo rodiklius. / In this Master‘s work leader‘s behaviour while implementing a project was analysed, as well as its influence to project results and efficiency. In the first part of this work evolution of leader’s behaviour theories was discussed together with their performing circumstances, effective project management and other factors, which influence project efficiency. In the second part of the Master‘s work empirical research methodology of leader‘s behaviour influence to efficiency of 2007-2013 Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus cooperation program (ENPI) projects was presented and three parts of research were discussed, where two groups of experts - 3 ENPI program coordinators and 10 ENPI project leaders, as well as ENPI Facebook profile followers took part in. In the third part of this work research results are presented together with model of effective ENPI program‘s project leaders behaviour. It shows what project leader should be and which behaviour cause implementation of project efficiency indicators.

As more organisations apply project management to perform projects in order to deliver high quality products and services, the demand for project managers grows, and thus more research is required on the effectiveness of project managers (Crawford, 2005). Hence, this research project aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations.The purpose of this research project is to fill the research gap by bringing the practical perspective of the effectiveness of project managers, from different informants in various fields, into the theoretical perspective in the form of a conceptual model (i.e. the combination of the constructs: core categories, categories, and concepts) through in-depth interviews and the grounded theory method. This qualitative study attempts to provide a fresh insight into the leading and managing projects, and hence into the effectiveness of project managers in project-oriented organisations.This research project is one of the very rare studies investigating the matter of an effective project manager, particularly within project-oriented organisations. It is also one of the very few studies investigating the role of leadership in the effectiveness of project managers, particularly within project-oriented organisations. In addition, it is one of the very rare studies providing the conceptual model as the criteria for project managers to become effective within project-oriented organisations. Furthermore, it is one of the very rare studies providing the practical model as the tool to evaluate the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations. The research project provides an insightful understanding of the notion of leadership, management, and emotional intelligence, and uncovers their roles in the effectiveness of project managers within project-oriented organisations.The research project highlights the value of qualitative inquiry for exploring individuals’ perceptions and lived experiences, as well as investigating phenomena which have been relatively under-investigated to date. It also highlights the usefulness of grounded theory, which builds concepts grounded in empirical data.

Detta examensarbete syftar till att undersöka hur aktörerna kommunicerar effektivt med verksamheten i projektering med hjälp av en 3D-visualisering. Rapporten är resultatet av en fallstudie utförd på skol- och sjukhusprojekt. I fallstudien har kvalitativa intervjuer genomförts på respondenter som innehar olika roller inom de studerande projekten. Intervjuerna har syftat till att ta reda på om 3D-visualisering har används inom projektet och om det har påverkat kommunikationen mellan aktörerna och verksamheten. Intervjuerna har även syftat till att ta reda på om en 3D-visualisering bidrar till en större förståelse hos verksamheten för projektet. Resultatet redovisar att 3D-visualisering används mot verksmaheten i skolprojketet men inte i sjukhusprojektet. Resultatet visar även på att en 3D-visualisering kan bidra till en större förståelse för projektet hos verksamheten samt aktörernas intsällning till verksamhetens delaktighet i projektet och om/hur aktörerna nyttjar 3D-visualisering vid kommunikationen mot verksamheten. / The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if 3D-visualization can affect of effectiveness of communication. The report is the result of a case study performed on one school- and two hospital project. In the case study qualitative interviews with respondents who have different roles in the studied project were conducted. The interviews aim to investigate if 3D-visualization affect the commutation between the organizations and the other stakeholders in the project. The interviews also aim to investigate if the use of a 3D-visualization affects the organizations understanding of the project. The thesis results shows that a 3D-visualization was used in the school project but not in the hospital projects. The results also shows that a 3D-visualization can affect the understandning of the project for the organization and the stakeholder’s attitude for the participation of the organizations in the project and how/if the stakeholder´s use of 3D-visualization to communicate with the organizations.
