Experiences of hospitalized patients with dementiaBainbridge, Samantha 01 May 2012 (has links)
People with dementia are hospitalized for a variety of reasons. The combination of dementia with additional health conditions creates a unique challenge to caregivers in acute care settings. There is a dearth of information available to provide guidance to the nursing staff caring for these patients. This integrated review of the literature examined the experiences of hospitalization from the perspective of the older adult with dementia, the family caregiver, and the patient care staff. Results showed a limited body of literature that addressed hospital experiences of people with dementia and those of family and professional caregivers. Additionally, few studies addressing this topic have been conducted in the United States. The primary finding from this study is that better communication is needed between nursing staff, patients, and their family caregivers. Nurses should carry out detailed assessments of cognition and pain in all elderly patients, and strive to provide appropriate palliative and end-of-life care. Dementia- specific training for all staff members may help to promote a better understanding of patients with dementia. Lastly, further research into the experiences of hospitalized dementia patients is needed, with a focus on acute care settings within the United States.

Title: Elderly people's experiences living with depression - A literature review Background: Depression is a common neurological disability and elderly people are particularly vulnerable. Sjuksköterskan och den äldre personens erfarenhet av delaktighet i omvårdnaden inom äldreomsorgen : en litteraturöversikt / The Nurse and the Elderly Person's Experience of Participation in Nursing Care within Elderly Care : A Literature ReviewJonsson, Axelina, Heijmer, Natanael January 2024 (has links)
Background The aging population in Sweden currently imposes higher demands on the quality of elderly care. Participation has been recognized as a crucial factor for enhancing the quality of care, working in a person-centered manner, and promoting the well-being of the elderly. Aim The aim of the study was to describe the experiences of nurses and elderly individuals regarding participation in nursing care within elderly care services. Method The study is based on a systematic literature review where existing research on the subjectis analyzed, and new findings are produced. Results The findings indicated that both nurses and the elderly highly valued participation in care. Two main categories emerged: care meetings and individualized care. These main categories suggest that the results included both barriers, such as a lack of time and resources, and approaches that promoted participation, such as individualized care. Conclusions In summary, the work demonstrated that there is an additional need for education among healthcare personnel in the field of participation and organizational changes that can promote individualized care for the elderly. Development in the field can provide the opportunity for nurses to work from a person-centered approach where the elderly's wishes and preferences are central to improving their quality of life and well-being.

are included in the Family Health Program by analyzing what they think about their
experiences in old age, in the personal and social aspects. It was used the qualitative
approach, through interviews with sixteen elderly, participating in a group of integral health
and which are inserted in the Family Health Program of Várzea Grande. The instruments for
data collection consisted of a semi-structured interview, containing thematic issues related to
the aims of the research, in order to understand how the elderly experience the old in their
daily lives. Data analysis was thus based on the categorization of statements, comprising: the
meaning of the old age, the relationship with the family and the community, the health and
services offered in the community. The results indicate that the experiences of the elderly are

health services, especially those in the Health Care Unity, and the networks of formal and
informal services to meet the demands of this population segment with quality / Esta dissertação apresenta os resultados do estudo realizado sobre as vivências do
