Dynamique en fretting : influence du type d'asservissement et apport de la technique d'émission acoustique / Dynamic in fretting : influence of control mode and contribution of acoustic emission technique

Benitez, Alberto 12 July 2016 (has links)
Most fretting studies analyze material’s responses using criteria directly issued from characteristic parameters of the fretting loops (loop aperture, dissipated energy, contact stiffness...). The first part of this study concerns the influence of the device, first element of the tribological triplet, on the gross slip response of a ball-on-flat contact. The role of the static and dynamic device stiffness (vibratory analysis), of the control system mode (imposed displacement or imposed actuator force) and of the material type (ductile, brittle or non-adherent) on the loop shape is analyzed in order to distinguish the respective contributions of devices and materials. The second part of this study concern the analysis of the influence of operating parameters (normal force, displacement, frequency, current intensity) for CuSn6-CuSn6 pairs for low current onboard connectors applications. An analysis of variance allowed to prioritize and identify existing linkages between the operating parameters and the tribology and electrical responses. An examination of acoustic emission signals (amplitude AE, emissivity, absolute energy, centroid frequency…) and the electrical resistance of contact allowed a temporal understanding of local mechanisms of degradation synthesized by an approach third body.

Evaluation of Novel Efflux Transport Inhibitor for the improvement of drug delivery through epithelial cell monolayer

Sonawane, Amit January 2015 (has links)
Blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a unique membranous barrier, which segregates brain from the circulating blood. It works as a physical and metabolic barrier between the central nervous system (CNS) and periphery. In mammals, endothelial cells were shown to be of BBB and are characterized by the tight junctions along with efflux system which are responsible for the restriction of movement of molecules within the cells. Efflux system consists of multidrug resistance proteins such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp). P-gp removes substances out back from the brain to the blood before they reach to the brain. So the barrier is impermeable to many compounds such as amino acids, ions, small peptides and proteins, making it the most challenging factor for the development of new drugs for targeting CNS. Curcumin is a bioactive compound that has a number of health promoting benefits such as anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-oxidant agent; as well as a role in neurodegenerative diseases, but low oral bioavailability is the major limiting factor. Low water solubility and rapid metabolism are the two important factors responsible for poor bioavailability of curcumin. Galaxolide is a musk compound and previously known for the bioaccumulation of toxic components in the aquatic animals by interference with the activity of multidrug/multixenobiotic resistance efflux transporters (MDR/MXR). The bioavailability of curcumin can be enhanced when administered with galaxolide. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of galaxolide on the permeation of curcumin through the epithelial cell monolayers. MDCKII-MDR1 cell monolayer is used an in vitro blood-brain barrier model while Caco-2 monolayer is used as an in vitro intestinal model, which also expresses the P-glycoprotein. The curcumin and galaxolide were separately solubilised in the DMSO and used in combination to perform permeation study, to determine the effect of galaxolide on curcumin permeation through epithelial cell monolayers. The galaxolide shows an efflux protein inhibition activity and this activity was used to enhance permeation of curcumin through the Caco-2 monolayer. In summary, galaxolide is a novel permeation enhancer molecule, which can be used for the improvement of drug delivery of other bioactive compounds in future. / Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Maharashtra (India)

Studium fázových transformací ve slitinách Ti / Studium fázových transformací ve slitinách Ti

Zháňal, Pavel January 2014 (has links)
In this work phase transformations in metastable β Ti-15Mo alloy were studied using electrical resistivity measurements. The alloy was subjected to a solution treatment at a temperature higher than β- transus and quenched in water. In this condition, the microstructure of Ti-15Mo alloy consists of a metastable β - matrix and ω-phase particles. During in-situ electrical resistivity measurement in a specially designed furnace, significant temperature points which indicate phase transformations in the material were detected. The dependence of electrical resistivity on the temperature changes during heating between increasing and decreasing according to the ongoing phase transformation. The changes were observed at temperatures 225, 356 and 560 řC. A further study of these phase transformations using electrical resistivity measurements was performed on various heat treated specimens. In order to control the microstructure evolution in the material, scanning and transmission electron microscopy was used. Mechanical properties were studied using Vickers microhardness testing. The obtained results serve to identify the type and sequence of phase transformations which take place in the Ti-15Mo alloy. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Χαρακτηρισμός βλάβης στοιχείων από ινοπλέγματα σε ανόργανη μήτρα μέσω διηλεκτρικών μετρήσεων / Electrical resistance meausurements on TRC tensile coupons

Πλαμαντούρας, Βασίλειος 01 July 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents the preliminary results of an ongoing experimental program aiming at assessing the piezoresistivity of carbon textile reinforced concrete dumbbell specimens under monotonic tensile loading, along the direction of loading. During testing both longitudinal strain and longitudinal electrical resistivity were recorded; electrical resistivity measurements were realized using a high-precision multimeter. The results of this experimental campaign may be used for setting the ground for establishing appropriate correlation factors between damage progression and piezoresistivity properties for TRC elements.

Diagnosis of Systemic Inflammation Using Transendothelial Electrical Resistance and Low-Temperature Co-fired Ceramic Materials

Mercke, William L 01 January 2013 (has links)
Systemic inflammation involves a complex array of cytokines that can result in organ dysfunction. Mortality remains high despite the vast amount of research conducted to find an effective biomarker. The cause of systemic inflammation can be broad and non-specific; therefore, this research investigates using transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurements to better define systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS)/sepsis within a patient. Results show a difference in TEER measurements between healthy individuals and SIRS-rated patients. This research also displays correlations between TEER measurements and biomarkers currently studied with systemic inflammation (tumor necrosis factor-α, C- reactive protein, procalcitonin). Furthermore, this research also presents the groundwork for developing a microfluidic cell-based biosensor using low temperature co-fired ceramic materials. An LTCC TEER-based microfluidic device has the potential to aid in a more effective treatment strategy for patients and potentially save lives.

Oxide-coated vertically aligned carbon nanotube forests as thermal interface materials

Vasquez, Cristal Jeanette 27 August 2014 (has links)
Carbon nanotube (CNT) forests have outstanding thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties, which have generated significant interest as thermal interface materials (TIMs). Some drawbacks to using CNTs as TIMs include poor substrate adhesion, high interface resistances inhibiting thermal transport, and lack of electrical insulation in electronic component applications. It is thus useful to be able to modify CNTs to reduce their electrical conductivity while maintaining high thermal conductivity and interface conductance, and high mechanical compliance. A recent report suggests that nanoscale oxide coatings could be applied to CNTs in forests without changing the mechanical deformation behavior of the forests. Oxide coatings could also provide environmental stability as well as better adhesion to the substrate compared to pristine CNT forests. In this study, we investigated thermal and electrical resistance of CNT forests with an oxide coating. Low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) was used to produce CNTs on high-conductivity Si substrates. Plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PALD) was used to deposit Al2O3 on individual CNTs in forests. This process was facilitated by O2 plasma pretreatment to functionalize the surface of the CNTs and nucleate oxide growth. Several analytical techniques were used to characterize the CNT-oxide composites, including scanning electron microscopy, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Thermal conductivity and thermal interface resistance were measured using a modified photoacoustic technique. The oxide coating had no significant effect on the effective thermal conductivity of the forests, in contrast to expectations of increased phonon scattering. Electrical resistivity measurements were made and a threefold increase was observed for the oxide-coated forests. This approach could emerge as a promising route to create a viable TIM for thermally conductive and electrically insulating applications.
