Židovská paměť a identita v současné italské literatuře / The Jewish Memory and Identity in Italian Contemporary Literature

Grigeľová, Eva January 2016 (has links)
The object of our diploma thesis was Jewish memory and identity in contemporary Italian literature. The work is divided into two parts. The first theoretical part in its historical introduction which deals with the Shoah in Europe. This will be a brief introduction to the european situation. The work continues by introducing more specific roots of anti-Semitism in Italy, its continuation until 1945 and describes the situation after 1945. In the next chapter, we will reflect about the relationship between memory and literature. What are the processes discussed and what is the relationship of memory and the Shoah. After that, we will also mention the complexity of Jewish identity and on her way how it is perceived. The next chapter will present medallions of individual authors whose works will be devoted to the practical part. The second practical part is divided into two main chapters. The first is devoted to the search for identity in three works by Alessandro Piperno- Con le peggiori Intenzion Elena Loewenthal- Lo strappo nell'anima and Silvia Ballestra- La seconda Dora. The second main chapter is devoted to tendencies that prevail in the individual authors - forgetting vs. remembering. The chapter is divided into two subsections that address specific perspective 2nd and 3rd generation. Separately...

Implementace a vyhodnocení komunikační technologie LTE Cat-M1 v simulačním prostředí Network Simulator 3 / Implementation of Communication Technology LTE Cat-M1 Utilizing the Network Simulator 3

Drápela, Roman January 2019 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the implementation of LTE Cat-M1 technology in simulator NS--3 (Network Simulator 3). The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes key terms concerning IoT (Internet of Things), M2M (Machine-to-Machine) communication, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and LPWA (Low-Power Wide Area) networks. The practical part summarizes the possibilities of currently available modules for cellular technologies for NS-3, ie. the LENA module and the subsequent extension of LENA+ and ELENA. Simulation scenarios offer a comparison of LTE/LTE-A and LTE Cat-M1 (also known as eMTC - enhanced Machine Type Communication) technologies for M2M communication. The results of the simulations are well-arranged in the form of graphs and discussed at the end of the thesis.

Salazar Delgado, Maria Guadalupe 05 April 2022 (has links)
The representation of women politicians in the media influences the perception of society about their role and capacities to exercise public functions. The present research aims to contribute to the analysis of this representation in a journalistic communication medium. Two women have been selected who assumed a leading role in two different periods of Peruvian history: María Elena Moyano Delgado (1991 - 1992) and Verónika Mendoza Frisch (2016). Under the theories of discourse (Foucault, 1970); critical discourse analysis (Van Dijk, 1999); representation (Hall, 1997); leadership (Morales and Cuadrado, 2011); gender stereotypes (Sau, 1993); and development of gender planning (Moser, 1995), it has been tried to investigate how the political context, gender and political ideology influence the representation that is made in the media "La República" about two women with political leading roles. This analysis is carried out in a comparative way between both study subjects. A mixed sequential methodology has been implemented that makes it possible to identify the main elements around representation (quantitative) and then delve into these (qualitative). In conclusion, The results show that the leadership profiles of both women are built assuming more masculine roles to a certain extent, faced with the need to stand out from others to make themselves heard. At the same time, these profiles are influenced by different starting points: one from a neighborhood space in the hands of women's organizations and the other as a representative of a political coalition that aspires to reach the presidential seat.

Elena Jordi y el Mito de Thais

Mele Ballesteros, Irene 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis studies the impact of the work of Elena Jordi during the first Spanish avant-garde period (1890-1920) and the relationship between the myth of Thaïs and her homonymous film released in 1918. Here I track the trajectory of her career from its beginnings to culmination, when she directed Thaïs while leading an innovative vaudeville theatre company. The first chapter discusses the activity of Jordi as a Catalan actress, and woman entrepreneur in vaudeville. It analyzes the effect of the introduction of foreign vaudevilles on the reception of her work by critics through the theorization of Herni Gidel´s on vaudeville as genre. The second chapter reviews the cinematographic work of Jordi and situates it within the context of Catalan cinema´s early development as Spain´s first woman film director. After reflecting about the possible cultural influences that informed Jordi’s Thaïs, I explore the literary origins of the Legend of the Saint, an hagiography of Greek origins, and review relevant literary, operatic, and cinematic productions that incorporated this myth during the early Spanish avant-garde period. My conclusion highlights the original and similar features of Elena Jordi and Thaïs in their respective fields and different manifestations, simultaneously placing Jordi’s Thaïs in dialogue with the myth´s resurrection and its impact on the avant-garde feminist milieu. This demonstrates the formative influence of both Jordi as a pioneering artist and the enduring cultural influence of the myth of Thais on twentieth-century cultural production.

Anticona Alegre, Angie Jennifer 15 November 2023 (has links)

The role of history in the recent Mexican novel : a study of five historical novels by Elena Garro, Carlos Fuentes, Fernando del Paso, Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Rosa Beltran

Rafael, Laura January 2007 (has links)
This thesis sets out to investigate the development of the recent historical novel in Mexico by examining a corpus of five novels. Elena Garro’s 'Los recuerdos del porvenir' (1963) represents the final point of the novel of the Revolution and it is the link with the recent historical novel. Carlos Fuentes’ 'Terra Nostra' (1975) and Fernando del Paso’s 'Noticias del Imperio' (1978) belong to the group containing the postmodern historical novel. 'Terra Nostra' summarizes all the concerns of postmodernism and can be considered as a paradigm of this current of thought. 'Noticias del Imperio' seeks a reconciliation between history and literature in an attempt to get closer to the historical truth. Paco Ignacio Taibo II’s 'La lejanía del Tesoro' (1992) is a representative novel in the way it melds history with the mystery novel, developing the genre of the historical thriller. Lastly, Rosa Beltrán’s 'La corte de los ilusos' (1995), and in particular its treatment of history is pertinent to this thesis due to the fact that women have been traditionally silenced by official history. This novel gives them a voice. From its beginnings, the historical novel confronted the problem of being questioned for its lack of accuracy when dealing with the past. This skepticism sparked a long lasting debate that initially degraded the historical novel as secondary genre that could never contribute to historical knowledge. However, as a result of recent theories that seek to defend the poetic nature of history, a theory developed initially by Hayden White, the recent historical novel has sought to debunk historiography’s claim to be the only possible way to recount the past. This thesis advances the theory that the recent historical novel in Mexico is the result of a search for a genuine identity, as well as a quest to develop an alternative, yet truthful, interpretation of a past whose true nature has been distorted by decades of historical officialdom. This process is seen in a context of increasing democratisation and globalisation.

Araujo Raurau, Ana Lucía 03 August 2017 (has links)

Sandberg, Amanda January 2018 (has links)
This essay focuses on the cultural aspects of translation, mainly on the cultural-specific elements known as realia, when translating from Italian to Swedish. As the realia might be unknown to the reader of the target text and as they often have no exact correspondence in the target language, they often pose a challenge for the translator. The essay examines which strategies the translator has used to translate cultural-specific elements and the question is raised whether the translation, regarding the cultural aspects, is orientated towards the source culture (adequacy-orientated) or towards the target culture (acceptability-orientated). Three of the Neapolitan Novels written by pseudonymous Elena Ferrante, Storia del nuovo cognome (2012), Storia di chi fugge e di chi resta (2013) and Storia della bambina perduta (2014), serve as source text of the analysis. The Neapolitan setting of the novels make them specifically suitable for a study of cultural-specific elements. The study is qualitative and complemented with a quantitative part. It is based on Osimo’s (2011) strategies for the translation of realia. The analysis reveals that cultural-specific elements of the source text tend to be replaced with more generic and international expressions. Prioritizing the narrative over cultural-specific elements the translation shows a tendency towards acceptability.

Dance and Identity Politics in Caribbean Literature: Culture, Community, and Commemoration

Tressler, Gretchen E. 03 June 2011 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Dance appears often in Anglophone Caribbean literature, usually when a character chooses to celebrate and emphasize her/his freedom from the physical, emotional, and societal constraints that normally keep the body in check. This study examines how a character's political consciousness often emerges in chorus with aesthetic bodily movement and analyzes the symbolic force and political significance of Caribbean dance--both celebratory (as in Carnival) and defensive (as in warrior dances). Furthermore, this study observes how the weight of Western views on dance influences Caribbean transmutations and translations of cultural behavior, ritual acts, and spontaneous movement. The novels studied include Samuel Selvon's "The Lonely Londoners" (1956), Earl Lovelace's "The Dragon Can't Dance" (1979), Paule Marshall's "Praisesong for the Widow" (1983), and Marie-Elena John's "Unburnable" (2006).
