Predicting Employee Performance In Non-profit Sport Organizations: The Role Of Managerial And Financial Performance And The Mediating Role Of Support For Innovation And Individual Creativity

Ocal, Kubilay 01 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the current study was to examine the level of support for innovation and individual creativity as potential mediators of relationship between managerial task performance, managerial contextual performance, organizational financial performance and employee performance in non-profit sport organizations in Turkey. For the purpose of the study, 721 volunteer managers and employees from 21 Department/School of Physical Education and Sport (D-SPES) and 23 Province Directorates of Youth and Sport (PDYS) were participated in the study. Individual Creativity Scale, Support for Innovation Scale, Managerial Task Performance Scale, Managerial Contextual Performance Scale, Organizational Financial Performance Scale, and Employee Performance Scale were used for data collection. Results of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis revealed that the model adequately describes the data for the sample and the fit indices were all within the acceptable thresholds. The model accounted for 68% variance in support for innovation, 0.7% variance in individual creativity and 44% variance in employee performance. These results suggested that support for innovation and individual creativity significantly mediate the effects of managerial task performance, managerial contextual performance and organizational financial performance on employee performance.

Duarte, Êrica Rosalba Mallmann January 2009 (has links)
It is well known that people behave according to the way they are being evaluated. In the healthcare environment, the search for a systematic evaluation with the purpose to assess the effectiveness of a system created the need to work on performance indicators, successfully adopted tools by the industries and banking systems. In the former they are being used to control and even admonish the staff, since individuals are under the influence of different managing styles. In healthcare, the flaws can be addressed to human errors which might impose personal and reliability implications. Therefore, the research aiming to improve the institutional evaluation processes is required to change the present culture. This study was carried out to create a systemic model of performance evaluation of health events, through the processes indicators monitoring. The chosen event was the Pain and the indicators developed to start the model construction were related to the atention to the acute pain in the perioperatory period. A pilot study was carried out to evaluate the variables connected to the processes and institution performance. The results indicate that the model tested offers great potential to evaluate health systems and establish good practices.

It is a descriptive inquiry that aimed to analyze the performance of CHA care in the treatment of tuberculosis in health services of Cabedelo-PB. The data were collected by means of primary sources (interviews) with 64 CHA, using as instrument which was adapted and validated to TB care. Data were tabulated using the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and identified four indicators to evaluate the performance. The variables were analyzed according to previously established score. Although 93% of CHA making home visits to assert the priority of TB cases, performance was evaluated in home care as regular as only 43% do so daily, only 45.3% routinely investigate the presence of cough at home and 40 , 6% felt unprepared to guide the process of sputum collection. The performance of the CHA according to indicators for monitoring and treatment, it is observed that those related to the Directly Observed Treatment (TDO) achieved higher scores while variables related to achievement of sputum (monthly / bimonthly) had lower scores. Performance in the orientation process to the patient was satisfactory, considering that 96.9% said they would pass on information about the transmission of the disease, 93.8% provide guidance as to the time of taking the medication and 78.1% warn the patient the possibility of undesired reactions. The analysis of indicators for monitoring and prevention, the performance of CHA was considered fair, with only 43.8% of respondents said that sputum collection is delivered in the unit and only 12.5% performed routine educational activities. The actions taken by CHA are limited to interventions aimed at the patient, with little integration in prevention activities within the family.

Orientador: José Dirceu Ribeiro / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-21T18:45:42Z (GMT). In recent decades, many studies about mouth breathing (MB) have appeared in the literature, however, little is known about many aspects of this syndrome, including severity, impact on physical and scholar performance. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the physical performance six minutes walk test (6MWT) and academic performance of children and adolescents with MB and nose breathers (NB). METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective study with children no severe MB that underwent to the 6MWT and evaluation of scholar performance through the report card. Variables were analyzed during the 6MWT: heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), oxygen saturation (SpO2), distance walked in six minutes (6MWD) and modified Borg scale (MBS). RESULT: We included 156 children, 87 girls (60 NB and 27 MB) and 69 boys (44 NB and 25 MB). All the variables studied were statistically different between groups NB and MB, with the exception of scholar performance and HR in 6MWT. CONCLUSION: The MB affects physical performance earlier than scholar performance. Since the MB in our study were classified as non-serious, other studies comparing the academic performance variables and 6MWT are needed to better understand of the process of physical and academic performances in MB children / Mestrado / Saude da Criança e do Adolescente / Mestra em Ciências

Conceptualizing Learning Agility and Investigating its Nomological Network

Allen, Josh 25 May 2016 (has links)
This dissertation consists of two studies examining the utility and distinctiveness of learning agility in the workplace. The first study examines the nomological networks of two proprietary measures of learning agility in sample of 832 individuals. The learning agility simulation is designed to be an objective measure of learning agility ability. The learning agility indicator is a self-report measure designed to measure the preference towards learning agile behaviors. The results of study one indicate two different nomological networks for the learning agility simulation and the learning agility indicator. Specifically, the learning agility simulation was related to cognitive personality variables (i.e., tolerance for ambiguity and cognitive flexibility) and cognitive ability, and the learning agility indicator was more strongly related to personality variables. The second study explores the work-related outcomes associated with the learning agility simulation, and the incremental validity of the learning agility simulation over traditional predictors of performance (i.e., Big Five personality variables, cognitive ability). The second study was performed with a sample of early career employees with supervisor rated performance/potential measures in a sample of 89 paired responses. The results of study two indicated that the learning agility simulation was significantly related to two areas of employee potential (learning from experience and speed-to-competence) and provided incremental validity over traditional predictors of performance/potential for these areas of performance.

Effective Leadership Strategies, Employee Performance, and Organizational Sustainability in the Boxing Industry

Ali, Rita 01 January 2018 (has links)
Ineffective leadership impedes employee performance and threatens organizational sustainability, causing U.S. businesses to spend billions of dollars addressing such issues. Correspondingly, boxing promotion companies are challenged as some leaders lack strategies to improve employee performance. This single case study was focused on leadership strategies utilized in the boxing promotion industry to improve employee performance. Transformational and charismatic leadership theories were the conceptual framework for this study. The data consisted of semistructured interviews with 8 participants from 1 organization (4 leaders and 4 subordinates), as well as document review of company training materials. The 6-step model for thematic analysis coding procedure was used for data analysis. Five themes/strategies emerged: leading by example, inspiring/fostering teamwork, honest communication, people-driven actions, innovative/adaptive organizational change, and providing rewards were each associated with effective transactional leadership for increasing performance and sustainability. The consensus among participants was that effective leadership is a significant factor in improving employee performance, maintaining constructive leader-subordinate relationships, and increasing organizational sustainability. The social change implications include community economic enhancement. When organizational performance, as well as local economies and communities have the potential to thrive, local spending and use of community resources may also increase to stimulate local economies.

Locating the Effects of Emotional and Aesthetic Labor on Performance Through the Lens of Flight Attendants : —An investigative qualitative study of a low-cost and a premium airline

Spyridonos, Athina, Zeeb, Hala January 2023 (has links)
This research implemented a multiple case study design to investigate the effects of aesthetic and emotional labor in the premium airline context of Emirates, in comparison to the low-cost airline context of easyJet. This was achieved through the conduct of interviews with flight attendants from each airline as they are the frontline employees who are mostly concerned with the implementation of these standards. Even before the recruitment process employees are introduced to the requirements of aesthetic and emotional labor as airlines aim to find those who will best ‘fit’ their organizational culture, and that through training they will be even more equipped to represent the company during their interactions with customers. Thus, flight attendants are regarded as a strategic resource that contributes to the competitive advantage and organizational performance of airlines. Taking into consideration that aesthetic and emotional labor standards define the very nature of flight attendants’ job and that their performance determines the organization’s performance, the potential effects on their performance cannot be disregarded. The main themes that were yielded through the thematic analysis of the empirical findings were found to be parallel to some of the performance factors in Herzberg’s two-factor theory of motivation, while aesthetic and emotional labor were located as components within identified themes. Thus, this provided us with a general theoretical framework that allowed us to further discuss our findings in connection to relevant theory. Results showed that the different operational business models as well as the different cultures of each airline mostly contributed to the differences that were found in regard to the implementation of standards between the two contexts. Aesthetic labor standards were found to have a stronger effect on employees’ performance in the case of Emirates due to the fact their supervision was stricter. In both cases, aesthetic labor standards were not found to have an effect on employees' performance when it comes to their interaction with customers. While easyJet was found to receive a more diverse training when it comes to interaction with customers, in both cases emotional labor standards were found to have an overall positive link to employees’ performance not only when it comes to interaction with customers but also when it comes to dealing with co-workers, managers and the demands of the job in general. However, the aspect of personality was found to be a moderating factor influencing employees’ understanding and following of standards. It should be noted that the results of this research cannot be generalized. Further investigation across different contexts and airlines is suggested so as to conclude whether the results are representative of a specific context.

Evaluating the effectiveness of a 360-degree performance appraisal and feedback in a selected steel organisation / Koetlisi Eugene Lithakong

Lithakong, Koetlisi Eugene January 2014 (has links)
Most companies are competing in the diverse global markets, and competitive advantage through human capital is becoming very important. Employee development for high productivity and the use of effective tools to measure their performance are therefore paramount. One such tool is the 360-degree performance appraisal system. The study on the effectiveness of the 360-degree performance appraisal was conducted on a selected steel organisation. The primary objective of the research study was to determine whether the current 360-degree performance evaluation system the organisation uses is effective or whether there is a need to explore other employee evaluation and feedback systems across the industry to identify the best practice. Constructs that were measured are the impact of 360-degree appraisal on the employee motivation and performance, job satisfaction, the organisation‟s performance, succession planning as well as training and development. The findings showed that the 360-degree appraisal system is effective in most of these areas. The findings will also assist management with a better understanding of where the process has failed and what gaps need to be filled. The results concluded that there is no need to explore other performance appraisal systems; however, as recommended, the identified deficiencies in the current evaluation process need to be addressed. / MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015
