Cette thèse porte sur l'étude de propriétés dynamiques de modèles quantiques portés hors équilibre. Nous introduisons en particulier des modèles généraux de type spin-boson, qui décrivent par exemple l'interaction lumière-matière ou certains phénomènes de dissipation. Nous contribuons au développement d'une approche stochastique exacte permettant de d'écrire la dynamique hors équilibre du spin dans ces modèles. Dans ce contexte, l'effet de l'environnement bosonique est pris en compte par l'intermédiaire des degrés de liberté stochastiques supplémentaires, dont les corrélations temporelles dépendent des propriétés spectrales de l'environnement bosonique. Nous appliquons cette approche à l'étude de phénomènes à N-corps, comme par exemple la transition de phase dissipative induite par un environnement bosonique de type ohmique. Des phénomènes de synchronisation spontanée, et de transition de phase topologique sont aussi identifiés. Des progrès sont aussi réalisés dans l'étude de la dynamique dans les réseaux de systèmes lumière-matière couplés. Ces développements théoriques sont motivés par les progrès expérimentaux récents, qui permettent d'envisager une étude approfondie de ces phénomènes. Cela inclut notamment les systèmes d'atomes ultra-froids, d'ions piégés, et les plateformes d'électrodynamique en cavité et en circuit. Nous intéressons aussi à la physique des systèmes hybrides comprenant des dispositifs à points quantiques mésoscopiques couplés à un résonateur électromagnétique. L'avènement de ces systèmes permet de mesures de la formation d'états à N-corps de type Kondo grâce au résonateur; et d'envisager des dispositifs thermoélectriques. / This thesis deals with the study of dynamical properties of out-of-equilibrium quantum systems. We introduce in particular a general class of Spin-Boson models, which describe for example light-matter interaction or dissipative phenomena. We contribute to the development of a stochastic approach to describe the spin dynamics in these models. In this context, the effect of the bosonic environment is encapsulated into additional stochastic degrees of freedom whose time-correlations are determined by spectral properties of the bosonic environment. We use this approach to study many-body phenomena such as the dissipative quantum phase transition induced by an ohmic bosonic environment. Synchronization phenomena as well as dissipative topological transitions are identified. We also progress in the study of arrays of interacting light-matter systems. These theoretical developments follow recent experimental achievements, which could ensure a quantitative study of these phenomena. This notably includes ultra-cold atoms, trapped ions and cavity and circuit electrodynamics setups. We also investigate hybrid systems comprising electronic quantum dots coupled to electromagnetic resonators, which enable us to provide a spectroscopic analysis of many-body phenomena linked to the Kondo effect. We also introducethermoelectric applications in these devices.

Capacity and Shopping Rate Under a Social Distancing Regime

Capacity restrictions in stores, maintained by mechanisms like spacing customer intake at certain time intervals, have become familiar features in the time of the pandemic. The effect on total spending is not a linear function of reduced capacity, since shopping in a crowded store under a social distance regime is prone to considerable slowdown. In this thesis, We introduce a simple dynamical model of the evolution of shopping rate as a function of a given customer intake rate, starting with an empty store. The slowdown of each individual customer is incorporated as an additive term to a baseline value shopping time, proportional to the number of other customers in the store. We determine analytically and by simulation the trajectory of the model as it approaches a Little's Law equilibrium, and identify the point of phase change, beyond which equilibrium cannot be achieved. By relating customer shopping rate to the slowdown compared to the baseline, We can calculate the optimal intake rate leading to maximum equilibrium spending. This turns out to be the maximum rate compatible with equilibrium. The slowdown is not enough to justify a lower intake rate. Because the slowdown due to the largest possible number of shoppers is more than compensated for by the increased volume of shopping.

Cette thèse présente de nouvelles techniques pour les Constraint Games.La manière de résoudre un Constraint Game est repensée en terme de propagation de contraintes.Les préférences des joueurs sont maintenant considérées comme des contraintes globales permettant une intégration transparente dans les solveurs de contraintes ainsi que d'améliorer l'efficacité du framework.Notre nouveau solveur ConGA est diffusé en open source.Celui-ci est plus rapide que les travaux connexes et est capable de trouver tous les équilibres de Nash, et cela même dans des jeux avec 200 joueurs voir 2000 pour certains jeux graphiques.Grâce à cette perspective, le framework a pu être utilisé pour résoudre un problème de routage dans le domaine des télécommunications. Les aspects centralisé et décentralisé ont été étudiés.La comparaison de ces derniers est très importante pour évaluer la qualité de service dans les applications multi-utilisateurs. L'évaluation de cette dernière peut être très coûteuse, c'est pourquoi nous proposons plusieurs techniques permettant d'améliorer la résolution de ce problème et ainsi d'améliorer la résolution du problème. / This thesis revisits the Constraint games framework by rethinking their solving technique in terms of constraint propagation.Players preferences are considered as global constraints making transparently the integration in constraints solvers.It yields not only a more elegant but also a more efficient framework.We release our new solver ConGA in open source.Our new complete solver is faster than previous state-of-the-art and is able to find all pure Nash equilibrium for some problems with 200 players or even with 2000 players in graphical games.This new perspective enables us to tackle real-worlds Telecommunication problems.This problem is solved with a centralized perspective and a decentralized one.The comparison of the two last approaches is really important to evaluate the quality of service in multi-users application, but computationally consuming.That is why, we propose new techniques in order to improve the resolution process.

The standard approach to modelling mechanics of continuum based on bal- ances of mass, momentum, angular momentum and energy is a very powerful tool. However, there is no connection between that and the Hamiltonian mechanics, that superbly describes kinematics of isolated particles. Thus, the two topics are rather isolated. Nevertheless, there is another approach to continuum mechan- ics - a one, whose reversible part is based on Hamiltonian mechanics, while the irreversible is generated by a dissipation potential. This framework, called GENERIC, is thus an interesting bridge between con- tinuous and discrete systems. In this thesis, we present the GENERIC framework applied to a continuous body, derive the governing equations and compare them to the standard theory. Both analytical and numerical solutions to a decent range of model examples are presented and analysed.

Analysis of human physical vulnerability using static equilibrium techniques of a Hazard flood for the determination of unsafe areas in the city of Catacaos - Piura, Peru

Heavy rains and El Nio phenomenon are recurring natural phenomena at a national level. These can cause floods due to the overflowing of rivers, which, when close to cities, can cause both human and material losses. The district of Catacaos, located in the city of Piura, was the one with the highest number of injuries due to the flood caused by El Nio phenomenon in 2017. This phenomenon causes a large amounts of rainfalls due to the presence of abnormally warm waters along the northern coast of Peru [1]. It is for this reason that the need arose to carry out an analysis of the physical vulnerability due to instability of people through static equilibrium, in said district, in order to present maps of unsafe areas in the face of this phenomenon. In this investigation, flood hazard maps are generated simulating the one presented in 2017, using 2D hydraulic modeling. For the generation of vulnerability curves, the instability analysis is performed by moment and drag force. Finally, maps with unsafe areas are made using ArcGis software. Where the results obtained indicate that 29.37% of the city was flooded. Likewise, the vulnerability maps generated show us that women and men over 18 years of age in the city of Catacaos would be vulnerable to dragging and overturning in the face of floods in 16.54% and 13.21%, respectively, of the total studied area. This information will be useful for the development of future evacuation plans during floods, carried out by national entities. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Thermodynamic Parameters Relative to the Melting of Cellulose Tributyrate

Wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) and differential scanning calorimetry (d.s.c.) measurements were made on cellulose tributyrate (CTB). In one case, CTB precipitated from solution in powdered form was annealed at different temperatures. In a second case, CTB was isothermally crystallized either from the melt or from the glass. Samples annealed from the powder showed higher crystallinity with respect to samples crystallized from the glassy or molten state. By applying the Hoffman-Weeks method to the melting temperatures of isothermally crystallized samples, a value of 192 °C for the equilibrium melting temperature of CTB was obtained. From calorimetric results on samples with different crystalline/amorphous ratio, a linear dependence between ΔHm and ΔCp was found, whose extrapolation gave 34.5 J g-1 for the equilibrium heat of fusion ΔHm°. A correlation between the experimental melting enthalpy arising from d.s.c. measurements and the percentage crystallinity estimated by WAXS measurements was attempted. In this manner a second, surprisingly high, value (67 J g-1) for ΔHm° was found. The difference between the values obtained from the two methods is believed to be due to the presence of macroscopic order in the amorphous phase, which influences the value of the WAXS crystallinity.

Size and Shape Stasis in Late Pleistocene Mammals and Birds From Rancho La Brea During the Last Glacial-Interglacial Cycle

Conventional neo-Darwinian theory views organisms as infinitely sensitive and responsive to their environments, and considers them able to readily change size or shape when they adapt to selective pressures. Yet since 1863 it has been well known that Pleistocene animals and plants do not show much morphological change or speciation in response to the glacial-interglacial climate cycles. We tested this hypothesis with all of the common birds (condors, golden and bald eagles, turkeys, caracaras) and mammals (dire wolves, saber-toothed cats, giant lions, horses, camels, bison, and ground sloths) from Rancho La Brea tar pits in Los Angeles, California, which preserves large samples of many bones from many well-dated pits spanning the 35,000 years of the Last Glacial-Interglacial cycle. Pollen evidence showed the climate changed from chaparral/oaks 35,000 years ago to snowy piñon-juniper forests at the peak glacial 20,000 years ago, then back to the modern chaparral since the glacial-interglacial transition. Based on Bergmann's rule, we would expect peak glacial specimens to have larger body sizes, and based on Allen's rule, peak glacial samples should have shorter and more robust limbs. Yet statistical analysis (ANOVA for parametric samples; Kruskal-Wallis test for non-parametric samples) showed that none of the Pleistocene pit samples is statistically distinct from the rest, indicating complete stasis from 35 ka to 9 ka. The sole exception was the Pit 13 sample of dire wolves (16 ka), which was significantly smaller than the rest, but this did not occur in response to climate change. We also performed a time series analysis of the pit samples. None showed directional change; all were either static or showed a random walk. Thus, the data show that birds and mammals at Rancho La Brea show complete stasis and were unresponsive to the major climate change that occurred at 20 ka, consistent with other studies of Pleistocene animals and plants. Most explanations for such stasis (stabilizing selection, canalization) fail in this setting where climate is changing. One possible explanation is that most large birds and mammals are very broadly adapted and relatively insensitive to changes in their environments, although even the small mammals of the Pleistocene show stasis during climate change, too.

3D semi-analytical solution of hygro-thermo-mechanical multilayered doubly-curved shells

Through-the-thickness temperature of the shell is modeled by Fourier's heat conduction equation. Fick's moisture diffusion law equation is used to determine the hygro-thermal profile through-the-thickness. The partial differential equations are solved by using the Navier closed form summations which are valid only for shells with constant radii of curvature among the midsurface and with simply supported boundary conditions on its shell's edges. The shell governing equations are solved by discretizing the thickness profile via Legendre's grid distribution and by using the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM). The Layerwise capabilities of the method is guaranteed by imposing the inter-laminar continuity of out-of-the-plane stresses, displacements, temperature and hygrothermal load thickness profile. The zero-stress condition for the transverse shear stresses is imposed due to the fact that no mechanical loads are applied in those directions. Results for cylindrical, spherical panels and rectangular plates are presented. Comparisons are made with Layerwise and three-dimensional solutions available in literature.
