Bordas. Testemunho / An idea of prose in A hora da estrela: Essay. Borders. TestimonyGomes, Cristina Torres 30 June 2014 (has links)
Macabéa, dobra desta projeção autoral, emerge entoando um canto quase anafórico, mas que tece, com sua voz marginal, o tom mais agudo e central do texto clariceano / The central corpus of analysis of this work is Ahora da estrela, by Clarice Lispector (1920-1977), thought of in its frontiers with the essay and the interval writings, prologues, epigraphs, amongst others and with the propositions of critical instrumental by Giorgio Agamben. The research is organized in three moments. Chapter I endeavors to locate the authors literature in her contemporaneity, extracting from the compositional strategies the singularities of her production related to tradition and to her present. In order to achieve that, the Clariceans narrative approaches the meditative, fragmentary, erratic thinking which is the base of the essayistic method of Michel de Montaigne and that composes a profoundly harmonic rhythm with the aesthetic perception of Clarice Lispector. In Chapter II the research tracks the marginal notes, that is, the paratexts and its counterparts taking them as conductive lines of a critical and reflective voice in the hybrid margins of the claricean fiction. The idea of an extended prologue, as it is suggested here, would be contained in the structure of A hora da estrela that opens with the 13 titles, goes through the dedication and continues for many pages of the main text. In Chapter III, a defenseis made that in A hora da estrela, through the authorial projection game between Clarice/Rodrigo, conductor of the meditative, critical and essayistic gesture, stringed in the text, it is possible to bring to the narrative a testimonial tone in the modulation of the in-between narrator, Rodrigo. Macabéa, a duplicate/fold of this authorial projection, emerges chanting a song almost anaphoric, but is woven with its marginal voice, the highest and most central tone of the claricean text

Iniciar é abstrato? É o lugar, é o tempo, é o espaço do caos cognitivo / Is it abstract to initiate? It is the place, it is the time, it is the space of the cognitive chaosVicente, Renata Barbosa 14 February 2014 (has links)
This research has as aim to describe and analyze, from the linguistic constructs used to mark the introduction of a argumentative essay text, from the perspective of Grammaticalization and Cognition, the most frequent linguistic categories . So we use a corpus of essays totaling 1600 entrance FUVEST exam (Foundation for the exam - USP) , produced in the period 2004-2011 , 50% of them the best and the other 50% considered the worst by the examining board. Theoretically this research is based on studies about Cognition, from Tomasello (2003), Damasio (2011), and Del Nero (1997), about Grammaticalization, the bases are Heine, Claudi and Hünnemeyer (1991) , and Bybee (2010). All analyzed material had quantitative and qualitative treatment, from this was found a determination that the space category is the most frequent cognitive category in the defense of a thesis and differs from place category. It was thus possible to observe that space, although in various contexts is used as a synonym of place, from the linguistic-cognitive point of view place has more concrete aspect, for determining physical location, while space is located more to the right cognitive categories continuum proposed by Heine, Claudi and Hünnemeyer (1991), after the time category, pointing to a higher degree of metaphorical abstraction. We found that the cognitive processing for text production involves several factors such as mental protosself (basic condition to the individual), core self (all acquired knowledge) and autobiographical self (how to externalize the knowledge acquired in the written text). We also note how the candidate begins an essay, trying to create a space set of attention, which is a result of all these selves working together for the (inter) subjectivity materialized via cognitive categories.

Playing modern : essaying, 1880-1920, Wilde, Chesterton, WoolfTippin, Robert Eric January 2019 (has links)
Between 1880 and 1920, both urban England and essays published in urban England underwent seismic shifts and splits, as population grew, education and technology advanced, and periodical publishing expanded. The city grew both larger in size and smaller in units of comprehensibility, and many of its people were (or were perceived by certain thinkers to be) less free and more instrumental. The periodical essay too grew more common and, at the same time, smaller in size, less free, and more instrumental, as it developed closer ties with journalism, with the industrial city, and with readers of all classes. By an examination of various forms of essaying in the period, this thesis argues that the essay's transitions parallel modernity's transitions, not only because the essay reflects or enacts or follows trends in modernity, but also because modernity at the time was conditioned by the essay's way of thinking through its form and cannot be fully understood without reference to the activities of the urban periodical essay at the time. The essay between 1880 and 1920 was a highly social genre, and this sociability manifested in a number of ways this thesis will explore. Its periodical context allowed it a ritual, patterning relationship with its readers; its brevity and limitations pushed it into dialectical, double-glancing modes of thought that complemented its fragmented setting; its tendency to direct attention away from its own form gave it a unique, constitutive role in literary modernisms; its material connections to new technologies implicated it in new doubts concerning urban modernity, and its massed readership embroiled it in fears over anti- or a-intellectual over-simplification. This thesis tells the stories of the periodical essay, in London, as an actor in modernity's transitions, by examining four concepts central to both the essay and to emergent modernity: play, the trick, doubt, and wisdom. These concepts are treated, primarily, through the work of three writers-Oscar Wilde, G. K. Chesterton, and Virginia Woolf-all of whom, in their styling of the essay, embody different moments and essayistic registers in the transitions of modernity and reveal the cross-fertilising relationship between essaying and what is meant by 'the modern'.

Esquinas: uma pesquisa sobre a cor na fotografia brasileira contemporânea / Corners: a research about color in the contemporary Brazilian photographyMaura Castanheira Grimaldi 24 October 2012 (has links)
To understand the relationship between color and photography, I investigated the technical and poetical aspects. Deepening in the researches about important photographers that work with color, making a series of interviews with the artists that had been studied and professionals from the area and building an artistic personal practice, I try to show in this dissertation how the color acquires autonomy becoming a structural element of the work.

O estudo procura conjugar poética, práxis e reflexão crítica, apresentando, ao longo da escrita, o plano conceitual em que os experimentos poéticos projetam-se, refletem, e a partir do qual se desdobram / This master\'s thesis investigates, as an essay, my artwork of the last two years. The poetic experiments and the literary form of this text bring up ideas of transparency and opacity visually expressed. The works presented here are divided in two series: the first one, that appears since the beginning of this book, is a visual essay composed by juxtaposition of collages, photographies and drawings. The second of them is about the installation based on three-dimensional works. This study tries to bring together poetics, praxis and critical thinking, presenting, throughout the writings, the conceptual field to which the poetic experiments project and reflect themselves, and from which they unfold.

Previous issue date: 2016-10-20 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation seeks to organize and complexify a certain dimention of
the body in film making having as a starting point the notion of essay film and the
film of my own "Pas ce soir", finalized and presented for the first time in January
2015. The term essay film began to be used in the 1940s to refer to certain types of
cinematic experiences that were beginning to emerge. Many of these experiments
were related to the emergence of new technologies such as 16mm cameras, which
enabled a single artist to handle the apparatus necessary for the making of a film. Part
of the theoretical work is based on theories that discuss the body and its relationship
with the environment. Among them, “Corpomídia” theory (GREINER and KATZ);
the notion of “embodied meaning” (JOHNSON, Mark) and ideia of “extended mind”
(Clark, Andy). The hypothesis is that the notion of essay film needs to be
problematized because until today it relies on dualistic separations that do not make
sense in bodily terms / Esta dissertação busca organizar e complexificar uma certa dimensão do corpo
A fundamentação
corporais

Previous issue date: 2012-06-22 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The research First person documentary: audio-visual intimate narratives aims to
study first person documentaries, works in which the author tells his history. By
approaching reality through a personal perspective, the artist shifts the narrative
focus from the outer world to his subject´s private world, placing himself as a
character. Thus, the depiction of reality becomes metaphorical and memoirist,
expanding classic documentaries instrumental language. First person accounts,
which also includes self-ethnography, has allowed social minorities to express
themselves, since they did not feel accurately portrayed by mass communication
vehicles. In this work, part of the Media Analyses research, we intend to examine first
person documentaries in both its form and its contents, by: identifying the audiovisual
mechanisms that were used to translate and communicate a private reality to
the audience; analyzing the connection between subject and object in a selfethnography
documentary in which there cannot be partiality; investigating in which
sense the work blurs the limit between documentary and fiction, creating a kind of
hybrid audio-visual account, examining the ways in which the first person character
becomes part of an audio-visual work. Our methodology consists on a bibliographic
and filmic research, whose focus is the analysis of the self-ethnographic method.
Audio-visual theorists served as reference for this research, such as: Machado,
Renov, Nichols, Da-Rin, Bellour, Dubois, McLuhan, Voguel, Russel, MacDougall,
Bernardet, Labaki, Lins, Sibilia, Citron. The hybridization process was examined
through the work of Pinheiro and Gruzinski. The artist creation, by the critical genetic
study done by Salles. Reflections on the death-image relationship were supported
by the work of Debray, Morin, Barthes e Becker. The presence of the body in the
work was examined in the writings of Mello, Nagib, Azzi, Schefer, Roth. This
research corpus is composed of the following works: Tarnation (Caouette. USA,
2003); The Long Holiday (Der Keuke. Holanda, 2000); Gokushiteki erosu: Renka,
1974 (Hara. Japan, 1974). This selection was done minding each chapter´s theme
(family, death, body). Despite being intimate narratives, they reveal a dynamic
subjectivity whose range includes social and political issues. The works analyzed
show a complex audio-visual language, thus consolidating the notion that
documentary and realism are not synonyms. We understand that this research can
contribute to a better understanding of the documentary concept as a creative
treatment of actuality , as defined by John Grierson in the 1930´s / Resumo: Esta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo o documentário em primeira
pessoa.
do documentário clássico.
documentário autoetnográfico em que não existe imparcialidade possível;
íntimos do audiovisual.
Voguel, Russel, MacDougall, Bernardet, Labaki, Lins, Sibilia, Citron.
A criação do
Debray, Morin, Barthes
e Becker fundamentaram as reflexões acerca da relação morte/imagem. A inscrição
Schefer, Roth. O corpus desta pesquisa é constituído das seguintes obras: Tarnation
(Caouette. USA, 2003); Férias Prolongadas (Der Keuke. Holanda, 2000);
Gokushiteki erosu: Renka, 1974 (Hara.
