Based on the above findings, the researcher has the following suggestions: (1) The use of therapeutic settings and therapeutic relationships in working with clients should be strengthened in education and continuous professional training for Chinese psychotherapists, especially to those who do not have educational background in medical science. Simultaneously, it is important to enhance the reflectivity of Chinese psychotherapists on their work and life experience. (2) To emphasize the legitimacy of psychotherapy in China, we have to regulate the norms of the profession according to the professional Code. Further, the principle of "do no harm" should be given higher priority in psychotherapy, psychotherapist need to cope with the demands from reality using wisdom and reason, pay attention to the affective needs of clients and promote social justice. (3) In the development of psychotherapy in mainland China, special efforts should be made to preserve the positive elements in traditional Chinese culture for the helping professions, keeping a balance between technical rationality and humane concern. We should pay attention to the goals of enhancing individual development, respect for diversity and importance of equality in practice as well as utilize the Chinese tradition and culture in helping clients to develop compassion, having empathetic understanding on the needs of one another. The purpose of doing so is to develop a new culture valuing compassion and reason in relating to one another. / The major findings of this research are as follows. (1) The understanding on the role of the therapeutic settings by the therapists are different. In comparison, those with training in psychoanalysis tend to attach more importance on the role of therapeutic settings than those who do not have such training. (2) The mainland psychotherapists still emphasis the importance of affection in relating with clients, using special rather than standard treatment for particular clients, which may result from the "differential distance in interpersonal relationship" dominant in Chinese culture. (3) Professional ethics for communities of counseling practice is newly introduced into mainland China, and people are beginning to pay attention to its relevant ethics. Its development, however, is still in infancy stage. (4) The mainland Chinese psychotherapists emphasis more on building relationship with people than developing technical skills in psychotherapy. This may be related to the fact that Chinese culture attaches more importance to interpersonal relationships. / This research attempts to answer the following questions: (1) What are the understanding of mainland Chinese psychotherapists about the meaning of professional ethics and therapeutic relationships? (2) How do they establish therapeutic relationships with their clients? (3) Are there any patterns in their establishment of therapeutic relationships, and how they interpret these patterns? (4) In their views, what are the principles and main points in establishing a healthy therapeutic relationship? / This study has implications for the helping professions in mainland China that it reveals the experiences, feelings and cognition of some mainland Chinese psychotherapists in their embodied professional ethical norms and therapeutic relationships. It illustrates the characteristics of these psychotherapists in dealing with professional relationships in a country which still values relationships and human feelings. The study also examines the factors that have influenced these psychotherapists in the development of their characteristics, e.g. the country's history, modern cultural atmosphere, and the ordinary people's routine styles of interpersonal exchange in China. The findings of this study, as a preliminary exploration of the process of establishing ethical norms and principles in mainland China, would be helpful to the development of social work in mainland China. (Abstract shortened by UMI.) / This study is significant as it is the first qualitative inquiry of the therapeutic relationships between clients and psychotherapists in mainland China. It explores the the impact of Chinese cultural tradition and modern social development on the mentality of mainland Chinese psychotherapists. / Using social constructivism as the epistemological frame, ecological systems theory is chosen as the theoretical framework in conducting the study using qualitative research. In-depth interviews and on-site observations are the methods chosen to collect data. The main source of data comes from in-depth interviews with 15 psychotherapists in different institutes located in four cities in mainland China. Through careful analysis of the data, thick description is used to describe the data. 本文處理的問題是「先秦儒家哲學中的情感」,具體的內容涉及「情感與詩、歌、禮、樂」、「情感與家庭」、「情感與生死」和「情感與道德」四個主題。其中,重要的主題是「情感與生死」,最核心的主題是「情感與道德」。在對先秦儒家經典中的情感語詞及其所關聯的情感現象進行細緻分析的基礎上,筆者重點考察相關的情感現象如何關聯於先秦儒家對「情感」與「道」、「德」的理解和經驗,進而深入考察其中可能的關聯是什麼。基於研究所得的結論,筆者提出:「先秦儒家重『情』,認為『哀、樂』或『喜、怒、哀、悲』是人生而具有的基本情感,是人性本有的內涵,其終極來源是天」這一基本看法。就具體的情感現象來看,孔子在面對「顏回之死」這一事件發生的當時,其直接的情感反應是「哭之慟」。筆者的問題是:「顏回死時,孔子已知天命,既已知天命,為何還會因『顏回之死』而『哭之慟』?」基於圍繞此問題展開的分析和研究筆者發現:孔子是以「情感」的方式理解和經驗「我與天」、「我與道」、「我與己」、「己與人」這兩個維度、四個面向的關係和「他人之死」的情感現象,他對天實有的情感是「敬畏」、「畏懼」,對縱向維度的未聞之道實有的情感是「期盼」。 / 筆者認為,自孔子開始的以「情感」的方式理解、經驗「生命」、「生死」、「道」與「德」影響其後學、孟子、荀子和《禮記》的作者,筆者在各主題中結合文本分析孔子為何會有這樣的理解和經驗,及其如何影響後世的思想家。筆者提出,應當結合以《詩經》為代表的文學傳統和以《論語》為代表的哲學傳統來考察先秦儒家對情感的理解和經驗;孔子的「哭之慟」之情感現象反映出孔子的心靈在當時真實感受到的悲傷之情。在本文各章研究所得結論的基礎上,筆者發現:先秦儒家承認「情感與人」、「情感與生死」之間存在著固有的關聯。簡單總結:在先秦儒家的理解和信念中,「人是有情的活物。」孔子生命中所有的對「天命」的畏懼及其對能「聞道」的期盼之情正是人之「有情」的真實體現。 / This thesis focuses on the question of "Emotions in Pre-Qin Confucian Philosophy", which mainly relates to four topics including "Emotion and Poem, Song, Rites, Music", "Emotion and Family", "Emotion and Life, Death", "Emotion and Dao, De". The important topic is "Emotion and Life, Death", the most core topic is "Emotion and Dao, De". I will discuss them based on this internal relationship among the four topics. Have made in-depth research into classical texts in Pre-Qin Confucian Philosophy, my point in this essay is that "The Pre-Qin Confucians were highly valued the role of Emotions, they took ‘grief and joy’ or ‘happiness, anger, sadness, grief’ as basic type of Emotions, which originate from Heaven, as well as is inborn content of human nature." When Confucian faced "the death of Yan Hui", his direct emotional reaction was "bitterly cried out". This emotional phenomenon poses a question to me: If Confucian have already known what "Heaven" wanted him to do, why he still cried so bitterly for "the death of Yan Hui"? I find that Confucian understood and experienced "Heaven and I", "Dao and I", "Myself and I", "You and I" which exhibited two dimensions and four aspects formations, as well as the phenomenon of "the Death of the Other" in emotional way. Confucian’s true feeling toward "Heaven" is "awe" or "fear", and his actual feeling to "the Unknown Dao" is "Hope". / My view is that Confucian opened a tradition focuses on understanding and experiencing "Life", "Life and Death" , "Dao" and "De" by the way of emotions connected to emotional phenomena which influenced his disciples, Mencius, Hsun Tzu, etc. It is needed to study "emotional phenomena" in the literature tradition which The Book of Songs started and philosophy tradition which originated from Analects. In the end, I come to the conclusion how Confucian’s viewed "Emotion and Life and Death": "People are inborn with Emotions." 中国大陆近年来的高校管理变革,如高校教师聘任制改革、大学的扩招及分类、本科教学评估、产学研结合政策等,都对大学教师学术工作产生了深刻的影响。这些变革体现出新公共管理的部分特点,如“仿市场竞争、“量化指标的表现性评估、“多元化经费来源等,并且型构了当前大学教师学术工作的内涵、执行和感知。本研究采用质化研究取向,选取两所案例大学,在综合考虑了学校层级、学科、职称等因素基础上,对32名大学教师进行深度访谈,试图深入了解他们如何阐释和理解学术工作内涵、执行和感知。 / 研究发现,相对于大学教师个体的能动性,大学行政力量推动的管理要求对学术工作有更强的作用力。其一,受访者所理解的学术工作内涵中,发现的学术地位最高,应用的学术次之,教学的学术只产生了萌芽,整合的学术很少被提及。其二,大部分受访教师衍生出“符应和“巧妙利用的应对策略,少部分教师“抵制和超然于制度要求。其三,大学教师在教学、人事和科研三个方面的参与权依次减弱。无法有效的参与学术管理,使得大部分受访者调整工作优先次序,服务工作获得最大优先权,科研投入增加,教学时间被压缩。按照管理要求调整工作优先性的教师,获得更多回报和晋升机会。团队合作、交流与访学、深造都是大学教师寻求专业发展的重要途径,但受到聘任制及学校资源的限制。 / 本研究在文献综述的基础上,围绕学术工作内涵、执行和感知形成概念框架,在实证研究中,受访者的阐释和理解丰富了概念框架,为学术观、学术工作感知、学者应对策略等提供了本土理解。学术工作管理和实践偏重发现的学术,与西方大学教师采用“双账本和“多重语言体系等策略不同,大部分受访教师附应和巧妙利用于管理要求,甚至衍生出不利于学术工作发展的行为。学术工作中,服务优先,科研时间增加,教学被挤压。工作收入低、差距大。晋升机会在学校、学科和职称之间存在差异。旧制度的遗留和传统文化对青年大学教师的晋升造成障碍。教师发展需要合作,但这与聘任要求中的竞争理念矛盾。普通高校的教师专业发展需要更多支持。政府对大学从直接控制逐渐转为通过表现性指标评估、竞争性经费分配进行远程调控。市场通过提供部分经费,对大学的影响力逐渐增强。大学教师有意愿通过参与学术管理,在学术工作理想与执行之间达致有效的沟通。 / Some major reforms of Mainland China’s higher education management have affected university teachers’ work significantly, such as competitive contract-centered employment of staff, integration of industrial sectors, universities, and research institutes, and the evaluation of teaching quality at the undergraduate level. These reforms highlight some features of new public management, including quasi-market competition, quantitative index-based performance evaluation, and diversified fund-investment. Meanwhile, the reforms have shaped the meaning, action, and perception of current university teachers’ work. By using a qualitative research method, this study selected two universities as the cases, which are on different levels within China’s higher education system. 32 in-depth interviews with the academic staffs based at different disciplines and academic rankings have been done in order to gain insights into their interpretations and understandings on the meaning, action and perception in terms of academic work. / The research findings show that the administrative-force-driven management requirements are more powerful than individuals’ agency in regard of academic work. First, within the interviewees’ understandings of academic work, scholarship of discovery is on the top following by scholarship of application and scholarship of teaching. However, scholarship of integration is seldom mentioned. Second, most of the participants value the coping strategies of “conforming to and “manipulating with the management, while only a few hold a view of resistance or ecstasy over the system. Third, university teachers’ participation decline in sequence of teaching, staffing, and research.As seldom could gain the opportunity to participate in academic management, most of the participants have rescheduled the priorities of academic work by putting service on the top priority followed by research and teaching. Staff members who make the priorities well-rescheduled would achieve more returns and opportunities of promotion. Though team work, overseas visiting, and further study are critical for teachers’ career development, they are limited by the new employment reform and the university’s resources. / Basing on the literature review, this study has framed the conceptual framework in terms of the meaning, action, and perception of academic work. The empirical data has enriched the framework by providing local understandings and perceptions of academic work and their coping strategies. The management and practice of academic work value the scholarship of discovery. Different from the strategies of “double-booking and adopting “bilingualism used by western scholars, most of the participants in this study conform or ingenously manipulate with the management requirements though some actions are harmful for the development of academic work.Within the academic work, services occupy the top priority while academics prefer research to teaching. Academic’s salary is relatively low and income disparity have widened. The opportunities of promotion highly dependon the university, discipline and academic ranking. For the young university teachers, theirpromotions are largely blocked bythe inherited old system and traditional cultures. The new employment reform requires teachers compete with each other though collaboration is the most needed for faculty development. More support is needed in lower-level universities to improve faculty development. The government has transformed its management style from direct control to remote monitor by using performance evaluation and competitive funding distribution. While, the influence of market has increased by providing universities research funds.
