Jubilejní zemská výstava v Praze 1891 v kulturně-historickém kontextu / General Land Centennial Exhibition in Prague 1891 in the Cultural-Historical Context

Menhard, Jan January 2021 (has links)
anglicky The aim of the thesis will be the analysis of the General Land Centennial Exhibition in 1891 in the cultural-historical context. The basis of the work will be a comprehensive chapter devoted to the exhibition itself, its purpose, specifics, as well as individual tendencies, according to which the exhibits were presented. However, the prologue of this chapter will be an analysis of the time before the exhibition. In this part the author will analyze the political and economic situation of the last third of the 19th century and the main prerequisites necessary for organizing such an event. The last chapter will deal with the contribution of the jubilee exhibition, the second life of exhibits and the subsequent use of structures associated with the exhibition. The thesis will also be completed with information from previous foreign exhibitions (France, Great Britain), without which it is not possible to fully understand the issue of organizing exhibitions. In the end, the author will try to answer questions and problems that arise during the whole work.

A contemporary museum experience : the design of a new satellite museum for the Ditsong: National Museum of Cultural History in Pretoria

Steyn, Sune-Marie 09 December 2010 (has links)
This dissertation originated from an interest in museum architecture and the desire to improve museum experiences for the inhabitants of Pretoria. The city is in need of a museum that does not distinguish between different cultures and backgrounds, and that provides an experience that a regular city user can relate to. This dissertation aims to address this need with the creation of a museum that relies on a chance museum encounter in an everyday place. This museum encounter will enrich people’s daily city experiences and provide opportunity for self-reflection and contemplation. The dissertation proposes a new satellite museum for the existing Ditsong: National Museum of Cultural History as a method of exposing the public to this museum. This satellite museum will function as a branch of the larger museum. The aim of this satellite museum is to provide regular users of the city with an unexpected museum experience. This dissertation considers what a contemporary museum in the inner city of Pretoria should be in terms of function and architectural implementation. The document investigates contemporary trends in museum architecture and evaluates existing museums in Pretoria. It also includes an investigation into culture in South Africa and into the relation of the satellite museum to its context. The study concludes that a contemporary museum experience is one that facilitates continuous change, and provides a spatial experience that blurs the threshold between the new museum and existing public space. / Dissertation (MInt(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Architecture / unrestricted

IRF UTSTÄLLNINGSHALL / IRF EXHIBITION HALL

Shanks, David January 2020 (has links)
IRF Exhibition Hall is an extension to the existing IRF Kiruna. IRF - The Institute for Space Physics - is an establishment with both research and education related to space in general.  The function of the extension is to act as an ever changing exhibition displaying the current works and research being done at IRF, as well as to supply an archive for storing said works in the future. The exhibition is to be freely accessed by the public, with the aim of engaging more citizens of Kiruna in related subjects.Light and darkness play instrumental roles in this project, creating stark contrasts and dynamic spatialities within the hall. During the day, the building is illuminated by controlled daylight, and by night by artificial illumination. As the daylight conditions in Kiruna vary dramatically throughout the year, both natural and artificial lighting conditions are paramount. The aim of the project is to amplify curiosity and reverence: Curiosity towards space related subjects - subjects that can help progress our understanding of the universe - as well as reverence towards science in itself. One is intended to be filled with awe when entering the exhibition hall, both towards our world and the people researching it. How can this be achieved through architecture?

Växa mot Våtmarken / Towards the Wetland

Bakhuizen, Klara January 2023 (has links)
Project "Towards the Wetland" is about creating a building that brings people to nature, and more specifically to the wetland. Road 73 and the railway to Norvik harbour currently create barriers for Nynäshamn residents to get to Alhagen's wetland, a beautiful area with great values for nature and people. With this new building, a wetland area is added closer to the residential areas, while the building shows the way to Alhagen through its location next to the bridge that leads there. The building's programme will focus primarily on the wetland and its functions. It includes an exhibition, lab and interactive space where preschoolers can play, school classes can be taught and researchers can study the wetland. Smaller rooms and an open study and work area can also be utilised for those who want to study or work close to nature. The cafeteria overlooking both the existing and new wetland will be an attractive part of the building.  Materials should be local and natural so that the feel of the building is linked to its function. In the construction of ponds in the new wetland, the leftover soil can contribute to the construction of load-bearing walls using rammed earth technology, which are supplemented with CLT columns and covered with a biotope roof that functions like a garden for the public and which, in the same way as the wetland, contributes to biodiversity and water management during heavy rainfall.

Renaissance of the Mogao Grotto

Liu, Yang 02 July 2018 (has links)
Dunhuang, an oasis city in the desert, preserved the flourishing, vanished and renaissance of the Silk Road in the past two thousand years. Due to the significant position located at the nodes of the routes on the Silk Road, Dunhuang has experienced a variety of cultural influences. Given its cruel desert climate where caravans were threatened by unpredictable dangers, Dunhuang became a religious center, especially for the development of Buddhism. Mogao Grotto is forever a shining pearl of Dunhuang. There are a total of 735 caves that have been identified and stretch the length of a 5578-feet cliff, which includes the 492 grottoes decorated with mural and statues in the southern section. It began being constructed around the 4th century and remained under construction for more than 1000 years. Renaissance of the Mogao Grotto is an exhibition designed to use digital media and traditional drawing to re-create the ancient cave art in Northwest China. These virtual representations enhance the experience of real visitors of the cave, allowing them to discover the history of the caves. In particular, the 3D visualization environment of Cave 275, one of the oldest existing caves in Mogao Grotto, is a strong immersive experience for audiences to appreciate the delicate Buddhist cave art. At the same time, all traditional works, such as drawing, sketching, photos, audio, and video illustrate the understanding of Mogao cave art in modern aspects. Re-exhibits powerfully demonstrate the heritage of Asian culture in multi-approaches, which are a special opportunity for visitors to experience and witness the treasure of Chinese culture. / Master of Fine Arts

Design à mostra: o projeto de museus temáticos / Exhibition design : designing exhibitions in thematic museums

Clara de Souza Rocha Meliande 08 July 2013 (has links)
The aim of this work is to understand how design is used in exhibitions for building context, content and language. Understand which strategies are used to project environments that are attractive to visitors in order to provide individual and collective, contemplative, spacial (immersive), sensorial and interactive experiences. For these we analyzed the changing role of museums throughout the time and set up an overview of museum institutions in Brazil in the last decades. We have selected historically established exhibition display standards that spread globally, since Brazil has undergone enormous cultural influence of Europe and the USA. Also, we have established a background of language concepts at the base of exhibition projects and thematic museums, considering aspects such as the way public learns, public behavior in relation with an exposed object, content production, production of meaning, choice of languages, intentionality, experience building, mediation and interface, among other things. As a study case, we have analyzed two contemporary thematic museums (Museu da Língua Portuguesa and Museu do Futebol), trying to build a critical view to the visual-spatial project, understanding the relations between objects (pre-existing or projected - products, texts, images, videos), the way they are exposed and the characteristics of the site chosen to host the exhibition.
