Interactive histories : How might interactive exhibtion elements improve the understanding of Islamicate history?

Kettner, Marlene January 2013 (has links)
What if the objects in the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin could talk? All the artefacts are there for a reason. But especially in a historic exhibition on another culture those reason can be extremely difficult to see. Why look at a shagged old carpet? More than 4 million Muslims live in Germany today. Most people have very little background knowledge in Islamic art or history - but Islam is a regular topic of heated debate. People come to the Museum of Islamic Art with today´s questions, ideas and expectations. In today´s exhibition, visitors are flooded with impressions and information, but without background knowledge, it is difficult to relate things.  What are engaging, and information-rich, but not overwhelming formats to access deeper information on particular objects? How to explore their specific contexts as well as their relation to other objects? My final design - ‘Storytellers’ are guides. They are small tokens that represent objects from the museum. Each object has its own character, topic and relationships to other objects. It will show you through the exhibition on its` individual tour. There are tours with stories for children, families, different levels of background knowledge and interests.

O museu como espaço de interação: arquitetura, museografia e museologia a partir dos casos do Museu do Futebol e do Museu do Amanhã / The museum as a space of interaction. Architecture, museography and museology based on the Museum of Football and Museum of Tomorrow

Lupo, Bianca Manzon 17 December 2018 (has links)
Interactivity has been a widely used concept for the structuring of institutional museums. It has been frequently introduced in the museological space as an important point of consideration by the exhibition´s design, markedly in recent decades. The interactive museography is a common solution used to present digital collections, having assumed an important role to reference center museums. Although interactivity in museums has been a recurring theme developed in recent studies, the relation between interactivity and architectural design has not yet been enough analyzed. For this reason, this is the central question addressed by this article: to investigate the interactivity concept known as the relation between architecture, museography and museology, focusing on the relation between the creation and the reception of the exhibition contemporary space. For this reason, the study intends to deepen the analysis of the Brazilian context, especially in the lights of the Museum of Football (São Paulo, 2008) and the Museum of Tomorrow (Rio de Janeiro, 2015). By this research, we intend to deepen the present comprehension of interactive museography in Brazil, investigating the relation between digital collections, interactive museography and museum contemporary architecture.

Apart : towards the dissolution of the negative dialectic found in artistic exhibition through the adaptive reuse of the Sunnyside Post Office into an art complex

Kloes, Kimberley, C. January 2014 (has links)
Through the consideration of Adorno’s theory of ‘negative dialectics’ the existing society of art is in a state of alienation. This idea considers units of similarity abstracted from one another and thereby establishing an opposition; a negative dialectic relationship between creatives. “Instead of belonging to the world, man put himself rationally and critically opposite it...“ (Jencks & Baird, 1969, p. 216). The concept that a future can exist free from alienation lends toward a future of collaborative community considered within the context of cultural production. Culture is not merely the manifestation of the human mind into a creative material medium; it is also a mechanism of interaction developed through social behaviour such as a custom or an idea. Kristeva’s construct, ‘the abject’ (that which is neither subject nor object), is used to define the scope of this project. Producing culture using space is not defining object in space nor is it defining subject in space. The triadic interaction between object, subject and abject is important in understanding the cultural system within the built environment. This is conceptually intended to manifest the communal identity of creatives within the host building. Considering the explicit (whereby knowledge and social interaction are produced) and implicit (which considers action between object and subject) relationships reinforces the argument. The understanding of the relationship between cultural media and mediators is to be explored spatially in the adaptive reuse of the Sunnyside Post Office into a production house and exhibition space, utilising social applications to defining a model for a creative cohesion. / Dissertation (MInt(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2014. / Architecture / MInt(Prof) / Unrestricted

Meninės juvelyrikos eksponavimo praktikos XX a. pab. – XXI a. pr / Display Methods of Art Jewellery from the End of 20th to the Beginning of the 21st Centuries

Zymonaitė, Justina 03 July 2014 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Contemporary jewellery cannot be dissociated from developments in the fine art. In the second part of the 20th century jewellery started to be considered as an art form which can express the individuality of an artist. During that time the first specialized jewellery exhibitions were held and since then the attention was drawn to the importance of how objects are displayed in the exhibition. What makes exhibiting jewellery difficult is its connection to the body - wearability is the essence of it. In addition, usually jewellery is small scale and made of precious materials. As a result, typical showcases made of glass are no longer satisfying for displaying art jewellery. The aim of this research is to analyze possible strategies of how art jewellery can be presented. The examples of temporary jewellery exhibitions, both personal and group, from Lithuania and abroad from the 1970s to the present are included. The research is not historical and based on chronology, jewellery exhibitions are not seen as a continuous phenomenon with clear evolution. Temporary exhibitions offer a possibility of to putting into practice such display solutions which would not be suitable for permanent museum displays. This paper looks into the questions such as what kind of different display strategies are used to exhibit jewellery, how the display affects the perception of the artworks, what the relation between the viewer and the jewellery work in the exhibition is, how display influences this... Mobile Exhibition System

Columbus, Sanford Jillian 06 August 2009 (has links)
Through the development and design of a Mobile Exhibition System (MES) in this thesis, I will demonstrate the benefits and possibilities of a flexible and mobile system within an exhibition environment. A flexible system will be able to adapt to a wide range of content, while at the same time, maintaining a synergy between its form and function. By the reuse and reappropriation of shipping containers as the exhibition envelope, the goal of mobility can be achieved, reaching out to those who might not otherwise experience learning through an exhibition environment.

Cohen, Miriam Aby 07 August 2015 (has links)
Brings up the performance designer\'s attitude, as an independent artist able to develop and materialize own narratives. An artist who moves through various languages areas, whose production places the design for Performance as the protagonist in the context of visual arts, performing arts and exhibition design. This research project aims to Identify and analyze the intersections, the practice In-between of distinct languages, in which the designer expresses artistically through the theatre design, art installation and exhibition design. Adopts the term \'performance design\' to redefining and to refer to the practice in different areas and the intersections, assigning forward the concept of \'performance design as experience\' to address the relationship and impact between performance design and the human being. Highlights the author\'s production of this thesis, her \'performance designs\' as objects of analysis, developed during the current period of this research project - from 2011 to 2015; complementing, punctually, with relevant productions from other authors, which collaborate for analysis of the topic. Recent curatorial projects that demonstrate relevance and influence on contemporary artistic practices in the field of performance design are also analysed, emphasising those approaching the theatricality of the practice of Performance within the gallery and the Museum, establishing distinct possibilities of perception and interactivity. Through the approach of the today curator\'s role, discusses his influence on the validation of artistic processes, therefore, the recognition of the work by performance designers as \'art\'. This thesis seeks to support thinking on how to bearing creative processes lined up with the aesthetic demands, language and tools of artistic production of the performance designers today. Especially on how to motivate the artist to trigger inspiring processes that can combat stagnation and repetition, transforming their practices and provoking a continuous development; also possibly pointing to relevant aspects of their training.
