Effectiveness of the use of simulation training in healthcare educationAlinier, Guillaume January 2013 (has links)
The focus of the research programme within this thesis is an investigation of scenario-based simulation training in undergraduate healthcare education. The aim of the main study was to determine the effectiveness of high-fidelity simulation training with adult branch nursing students. Their acquisition of knowledge and skills was tested using a 15-station Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) pre- and post- the simulation intervention with randomised control and experimental groups of volunteer students. The results show that simulation training is an effective learning method as students from the experimental group, who were given the opportunity to observe and take part in high-fidelity simulation training followed by debriefing, made significantly higher improvements between their two OSCE performances than students from the control group. The second study focused on interprofessional learning with a randomised control group investigation of the students’ knowledge of the roles and skills of other healthcare professions involved in the same simulation session. The results demonstrate that observing and taking part in multidisciplinary scenarios and their debriefings contributed to the students’ acquisition of knowledge about the roles and skills of other health professionals. The study also showed that students’ perception of multidisciplinary team working was significantly influenced by whether or not they had experienced interprofessional high-fidelity scenario-based simulation training. The main original themes emerging from the research work presented in this thesis comprise the implementation of high-fidelity scenario-based simulation training and debriefing with undergraduate students from a range of healthcare disciplines and the objective measure of the effectiveness of such learning opportunities. This work has now started to impact on simulation practice in undergraduate education within the University and beyond

Efficacy of learnership programmes: an exploratory investigation of learner perceptions in the Cape PeninsulaDe Louw, Lynette Angela January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Human Resource Management)--
Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009 / Learnerships, which are embedded in the skills development strategy for South
Africa, have been heralded as the panacea for all shortcomings experienced in
the labour market and poverty alleviation in society. Learnerships are
vocational education and training programmes, and are purported to fast track
acquisition of qualifications for predominantly lower and unskilled workers,
equipping them with knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience. At the same
time learnerships afford learners an opportunity to enhance their individual
employability potential by obtaining a qualification on successful completion of
a learnership programme.
Anecdotal evidence, however, suggests that learnerships have not been able to
deliver on some of its main objectives such as improved employability and
living standards of learners. The Department of Labour has placed prominence
on quantities and focus on meeting targeted quotas, while insufficient emphasis
is placed on efficacy of learnership programmes in terms of its benefits for
individual learners.
This study investigates opinions of learners who are enrolled in a learnership
programme in order to examine their perceptions of a learnership qualification
as an enabler for personally enhanced employability and consequent improved
living standards.
A mixed methods approach was used for the research study in the form of a
quantitative survey questionnaire, followed by a qualitative study which used
focus group interviews.

I dared to look at the witch” : A qualitative study that explores adventure education as a pedagogic method.Allvin, Sofia, Ellestad, Michaela January 2017 (has links)

Die kreatiewe skryfonderrigproses - ‘n outo-etnografiese studieLe Roux, Anmar 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MEd (Education))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study originated out of the need to explore and study research opportunities from within die creative discipline of the writing art. Through autoethnographic and narrative writing, it explores the experience and conclusions of two very specific research opportunities. These opportunities provide insight with regards to the suggested ways in which creative writing can be taught, through the stimulation of imagination and the integration of experience based activities in the pre-writing phase.
The first opportunity reports on a creative writing workshop in Paarl on invite of the Taalmuseum and monument, while the second opportunity in cooperation with LAPA Publishers entails a book process for Grade 7 learners.
The study consists out of four interdependent divisions rather than chapters. It entails a methodological division (A) that gives academic structure and support to the study, two practice based divisions (B and C) with weaved literature in division B and a summary division (D) with conclusions and implications. Further more, the study integratively provides an oversight of four important phases in the life of the researcher with regards to a personal creative writing journey.

Organisational Learning in Business Model Innovation in the Bottom of Pyramid market : An empirical fieldwork about the market introduction of clean cookstoves in MozambiquePremer, Stefan, Nansubuga, Brenda January 2018 (has links)
There is a need for cleaner technology initiatives into the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) market to combat the effects of climate change. The difficulty of these initiatives lies in their business model innovation process, as those organisations struggle in finding adequate strategies to establish their business in the BoP market. The BoP market is characterised as highly uncertain, which makes the operation of businesses challenging. Hereby the thesis aims at answering the question on how organisational learning occurs in business model innovation in the BoP market. Through a case study approach, the thesis intends to understand the requirements to establish a functioning business model by analysing organisational learning under business model innovation within the BoP market. This has been realised through a three week field study in Northern Mozambique, observing the market introduction of a cleantech company operating in this context. Hereby the business model innovation process and the environment of operation was analysed. This research contributes to the current discussion of business model innovation in BoP markets by detecting organisational learning as a useful mechanism and adding relevant insights on how organisational learning occurs in this specific context. Therefore the study opens the discussion on organisational learning in business model innovation in the context of the BoP market by asking for further studies on the topic.
