Městský úřad Leopoldov / Municipality Leopoldov

Prosnanová, Dominika January 2020 (has links)
The goal of my master‘s thesis is to project a municipality with an attached library in the town Leopoldov. The municipality building has two aboveground floors and the library is designed as a single-floor structure. Both are designed to be barrier-free. The construction system is made out of limestone-sand blocks. The ceilings are mostly made out of prestressed ceiling panels, except for the first floor of the municipality, where the prestressed panel ceiling is combined with monolithic ceiling plates made out of reinforced concrete. The roof of the library is projected as a green roof with a terrace and the municipality has a flat deck roof with river gravel.

An Investigation Into the Effects of Free-Access Acidified Milk Replacer Feeding Programs on the Productivity and Welfare of the Calf

Todd, Cynthia 10 June 2013 (has links)
Free-access acidified milk feeding is increasingly being adopted to feed dairy and veal calves. Acidification is used to preserve milk and facilitate free-access feeding. There is, however, little controlled research to support the adoption of free-access acidified milk feeding over traditional feeding programs. The objectives of this thesis were to describe the preweaned calf management and feeding practices used on dairy farms in Ontario, Canada, and to investigate the effects of milk replacer acidification and free-access feeding on the productivity and welfare of calves. A total of 140 Ontario dairy producers participated in a cross-sectional study and were surveyed about on-farm calf management and feeding practices. Results from this study documented that there are currently a range of management practices and several different feeding programs being used on farms. Colostrum and milk feeding management are the areas where the most progress has been made in recent years; however, several other aspects of calf management and feeding still warrant improvement. A pilot study was conducted to examine the effects of milk replacer acidification and free-access feeding on the nutrient intake, growth, rumen papillary development and behaviour of calves. A field study was designed to evaluate the effects of a free-access acidified milk replacer feeding program on the pre and postweaning health and growth of dairy and veal calves. A randomized controlled study was completed to investigate how milk replacer acidification, under free-access feeding conditions, affects the pre and postweaning performance and health of veal calves. Results from these studies demonstrated that milk replacer acidification limited calves’ intake of milk replacer by approximately 1 L/d, resulted in more fragmented feeding behaviour, promoted earlier solid feed intake and tended to support improved respiratory health, but had little impact on rumen development or long-term calf performance. Moreover, free-access feeding facilitated larger intakes of milk, resulted in fewer signs of hunger or frustration, and supported greater preweaning growth, but delayed the onset of solid feed consumption and appeared to negatively affect rumen development, compared to restricted feeding. Collectively, these results demonstrate that free-access acidified milk feeding promotes greater early life productivity and enhances calf welfare. / Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Ontario Veal Association, National Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Grober Nutrition and 3M Canada

ABSTRACT This is a study that aims to identify the suitability of the hybrid repository in the management of scientific and artistic information produced in IES - Senai, Bahia. To achieve the goal, seeking will study the level of knowledge of the professionals at FIEB system about the open access movement and use of repositories in the process of communication and information use. Thus, it was possible to identify the treatment practices of information available in digital media, performed by the institution. The population used was the body of employees who act as coordinators of undergraduate courses and postgraduate, as well as those working in the following sectors: the Center for Applied Research (NPA), which supports the technical and financial management of projects Research, the Center for Intellectual Property (NPI), which manages both the protective procedures of intellectual property products and / or the processes as outcomes of Research projects, Development and Innovation (R & D & I) - as is the technical and technology services or of professional education units operating at Senai-BA, the Center for Distance Education (NEAD), which develops learning objects, and the library that manages the intellectual and documentary output of the institution, safeguarding the institutional memory. This is a case study with qualitative and quantitative approaches, whose methods to achieve the established objectives, are descriptive and exploratory. The instrument used for data collection was a semi-structured questionnaire administered using the Survey Monkey system. The hybrid repository is considered a tool that combines several works (books, articles, videos, images, etc.) making them available in different formats (pdf, jpg, txt, avi, doc, e-pub, among others), proposing to promote sharing, the (re) use of resources and learning objects. Reflecting on their use, in this study, it is observed that communities of practice (libraries, distance learning, information systems, publications and records management) have an important role in its development and maintenance. In this perspective, it appears that the lack of an effective management of scientific information, technical and artistic, available in the digital environment, in addition to causing difficulties in the accessibility and exchange of information, can derail their preservation, dissemination and also hinder the expansion of the institution visibility.

Distributed Contention-Free Access for Multi-hop IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless Sensor Networks

Khayyat, Ahmad 26 October 2007 (has links)
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is a low-power, low-rate MAC/PHY standard that meets most of the stringent requirements of single-hop wireless sensor networks. Sensor networks with nodal populations comprised of thousands of devices have been envisioned in conjunction with environmental, vehicular, and military applications, to mention a few. However, such large sensor network deployments necessitate multi-hop support as well as low power consumption. In light of the standard's extremely limited joint support of the two aforementioned attributes, this thesis presents two essential contributions. First, a framework is proposed to implement a new IEEE 802.15.4 operating mode, namely the synchronized peer-to-peer mode. This mode is designed to enable the standard's low-power features in peer-to-peer multi-hop-ready topologies. The second contribution is a distributed Guaranteed Time Slot (dGTS ) management scheme designed to function in the newly devised network mode. This protocol provides reliable contention-free access in peer-to-peer topologies in a completely distributed manner. Assuming optimal routing, our simulation experiments reveal perfect delivery ratios as long as the traffic load does not reach or surpass its saturation threshold. dGTS sustains at least twice the delivery ratio of contention access under sub-optimal dynamic routing. Moreover, the dGTS scheme exhibits minimum power consumption by eliminating the retransmissions attributed to contention, which in turn reduces the number of transmissions to a minimum. / Thesis (Master, Electrical & Computer Engineering) -- Queen's University, 2007-10-25 14:55:36.811

Guilhem, Cristina Benedeti 11 October 2010 (has links)
With the evolution of the Web and its consequent increase of flow of information, products and services start to have a greater demand by means of its environment. / The rapid advancement of ICTs has been adding to the avalanche of knowledge, by providing means to make more effective communication of recorded knowledge among men. The principle of digital libraries focuses on the design of an information system able to identify, locate, seek and make available to its users the information they need. The objective of this study was to investigate the development of digital libraries as the systematization of activity providing the knowledge generated and / or maintained by research institutions and / or government, as well as adherence to international standards in order to identify characteristics and trends in their projects to provide care to the diverse needs of users. To this end, availed himself of the analysis of practices, policies and standards, such as: software technologies, metadata standards, funding sources and purposes of creation, in the following digital libraries: Europeana, DART, NDLDT, CDL, BDAV, BIBLIODAR, BDCOL and BDTD and the study of the characteristics inherent in digital libraries, aiming at identifying the resources required for its development. The first projects of digital libraries users considered as mere consumers of digital resources. The project was focused on the digital object. Currently, the digital library should put the user at the center of its development. Issues involving the diversity of user needs coupled with issues of quality and continuity of services are in vogue and can be observed in the use of centralized catalogs, use of a single index, in artifacts available technological developments and research projects in some of libraries analyzed.

Free access to scientific literature and its influence on the publishing activity in developing countries: The effect of Sci-Hub in the field of mathematics

Buehling, Kilian, Geissler, Matthias, Strecker, Dorothea 22 February 2024 (has links)
This paper investigates whether free access to scientific literature increases the participation of under-represented groups in scientific discourse. To this end, we aggregate and match data tracing access to Sci-Hub, a widely used black open access (OA) repository or shadow library, and publication data from the Web of Science (WoS). We treat the emergence of Sci-Hub as an exogenous event granting relatively unrestricted access to publications, which are otherwise hidden behind a paywall. We analyze changes in the publication count of researchers from developing countries in a given journal as a proxy for general participation in scientific discourse. Our results indicate that in the exemplary field of mathematics, free access to academic knowledge is likely to improve the representation of authors from developing countries in international journals. Assuming the desirability of greater international diversity in science (e.g., to generate more original work, reproduce empirical findings in different settings, or shift the research focus toward topics that are overlooked by researchers from more developed countries), our findings lend evidence to the claim of the OA movement that scientific knowledge should be free and widely distributed.
