Our main purpose was to obtain a comprehensive view of the unconscious motivations involved in selfdestructive processes through a revision of the remarks found in Sigmund Freud's work, connecting them with an ordering of Freudian thought relative to the development of his ideas about suicide. In this observations and basically, connected to with early writings we the contributions the idea that the unconscious guilt find only a few scattered of the next years refer basically, to the idea that the selfdestructive feelings and impulses are connected with unconcscious guilt feeling and the need for selfpunishment arsing from unconscious hate directed to loved persons, as well as unconscious death wishes against them. When Freud introduced concepts like narcissism, primary identification and the ego ideal, we see that he managed to enrich his theoretical concept ions, linking melancholy and selfdestruction. The emergence of the idea of a death drive, and the changes which this concept brought to his theories about suicide are then studied; as well a s the new ideas about repetition compulsion, a bout drives as an expression of the conservative nature of human beings, about drive fusion and the economic problem of masoquism. The extreme complexity of this phenomenon leads to the conclusion that, despite the metapsychological contribuitions that enable us to understand the unconscious nature of selfdestructive acts, it is indispensable, in individual case studies, to adopt a perspective that also consider s the singularity of the motivations involved in the impulse that drives us to our own death. The individual story, the social-cultural context and the social view of suicide, colours the singular, specific, and idiosynchratic selfdestructive acts, accessible to the analysis by means of psychoanalytical insights.

Os fundamentos da teoria freudiana da representaÃÃo / The Fundamentals of Freudâs Theory of Representation

Francisco Iverlanio Frota 27 March 2013 (has links)
CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / The dissertation The Fundamentals of Freudâs Theory of Representation covers the building process of the Freudian concept of representation from its inception up to the formulation of the seduction theory. The phenomena of mind are initially explained as conscious representational processes as well as incompatible to conscience processes. The incompatible representations bring the content from the experiences of sexual traumas suffered in childhood which was excluded from consciousness. The reason for the exclusion of the incompatible representations is because of the self-defense against such representations. Later, the defense process starts to be explained as an unconscious reaction. The unconscious representation shifts the discussion of the abnormal psychic processes from the physiological context into the mental context in which sexuality will play an important causal role. Thus, the Freudian theory of the sexual trauma representation arises, and, in turn, will serve as the basis for the seduction theory. The aim of this dissertation is to show the fundamentals of the Freudian concept of representation as a possible opening to the philosophical discussion of psychoanalysis. The work has as research source the first Freudian texts, showing the first notions of representation in the physical-mental field up to the development of the theory of sexual trauma representation. It also presents the theory of the psychic apparatus contained in the Project for a Scientific Psychology, as well as the formulation of the seduction theory. At the end of the study, we found that the representation in Freud acquires fundamental importance to the construction of the psychoanalytic theory.

Freud and Clio: a historiographical inquiry into psychohistory

Sanders, Gary Burton 05 1900 (has links)
This work is an attempt to examine the nature of psychohistorical writing after 1958 and to assess the impact of this new discipline in historiography. The year 1958 was chosen as the date of beginning of scholarly psychohistory for two reasons: in that year the highly respected historian, William Langer, in a presidential address to the American Historical Association, called upon his colleagues to use psychoanalysis in their research; and Erik Erikcon published Young Man Luther: A Study in Psychoanalysis and History, which has been accepted ever since as the finest example of psychohistorical writing.

The Transcriptional Repressor CC2D1A/Freud-1 Interacts with the Chromatin Remodeling Protein Brg1

Mirédin, Kim January 2012 (has links)
The serotonin-1A (5-HT1A) receptor plays an important role in the regulation of the serotonin (5-HT) system as an autoreceptor on 5-HT neurons. The transcription factor CC2D1A/Freud-1 is a potent repressor of the 5-HT1A promoter in neuronal but not in non-neuronal cells. The clinical relevance of Freud-1 is evident in a naturally occurring mutation, resulting in a truncated form of Freud-1 lacking its C-terminal half, that is associated with non syndromic mental retardation in humans. Thus, it is of interest to clarify the structure and function of Freud-1. As Freud-1 was shown to interact with the transcriptional regulator Brg1 at the 5-HT1A promoter, identification of the structural domains mediating the Brg1/Freud-1 interaction is required to assess the role of Brg1 in Freud-1 repression. In this study, I used pull-down assays with recombinant proteins, co-immunoprecipitation studies and immunofluorescent staining with confocal microscopy to show that Freud-1 interacts directly with the C-terminus of Brg1 and that the C-terminal domain of Freud-1 is required for this interaction.

Dreams: The Emissary of Characterization

Rodgers, Ross Alan 25 November 2020 (has links)
Dreams hold a particular interest in the minds of literary authors across recorded history. Long looked at as messages of prophecy or visions from the gods, it was not until the 20th century that dreams began to be studied for their psychological impact on the human brain. With an analysis of dream interpretation, the usage of dreams throughout creative fiction give writers the ability to craft characters with a deeper sense of characterization that cannot be otherwise achieved through normal means. With this important tool in hand, this creative thesis uses dreams as a method of characterization while analyzing how it has been used throughout other works of modern-day fiction.

Exploring Fear and Freud's The Uncanny

Grizzle, Eric 05 1900 (has links)
Fear is one of the oldest and most basic of human emotions. In this thesis, I will explore the topic of fear in relation to literature, both a staple of the horror genre as well as a device in literary works, as well as in my own writings. In addition, I will use Sigmund Freud's theory of the “uncanny” as a possible device to examine the complexities of fear and its effects both on the mind and body through the medium of literature, and, more specifically, where and how these notions are used within my own short stories. By exploring how and why certain fears are generated, we may be able to better examine our own reactions in this regard.

A atuação do psicanalista com grupos e instituições: teoria e relatos de intervenção a partir de Freud e Lacan / The performance of the psychoanalyst with groups and institutions: theory and intervention reports from Freud and Lacan

The present work presents a theoretical-clinical reflection on the performance of the psychoanalyst in groups and institutions. Although the theme of the groups already carries a tradition within psychoanalysis, we continued the question by verifying how the group coordination exercise has been established by psychoanalysts who follow the reference of Freud and Lacan in the present time and also to know what it does of the group an analytical device. The thesis developed in this study is that the group field is potent so that the subject can create new possibilities of tie, transforming their subjective positions. The methodological option gathered a field research through interviews with psychoanalysts that work with groups and a conceptual rescue of group practices within psychoanalysis, along with some Lacanian contributions considered relevant to clarify the clinic with groups. It was also sought to analyze the role of the psychoanalytic coordinator in collective spaces of different orders, bringing subsidies to the challenging clinical effort to conciliate the collective without leaving aside the singular dimension of the subject. The thesis is based on the belief that group work can be analytical and especially pertinent to current clinical practice
