Absolventi na trhu práce EU / Young People on the EU Labour Market

Kuřetová, Jana January 2008 (has links)
This thesis revises the position of young people on labour markets in the EU. It focuses on all the three parties involved in the problem: on young people and their school preparation for work (level, quality and structure of the education); on labour markets and what they can offer to young people; and on the European Union as an institution which should ease the entrance of young people to the working life. The author suggests, on basis of the data presented, some mesures to improve the employment of young people. That should happen especially by changing the education systems which must focus more on practice and job-related experience.

The experience of Sultan Qaboos University newly graduated nurses during their first year of practice in the Sultanate of Oman

Al Awaisi, Huda S. January 2012 (has links)
Background: Studies have demonstrated that new graduate nurses' (NGNs) transition experience is complex and often negative leading to dissatisfaction with nursing and increased attrition. Many existing studies of NGNs' transition experience are small, qualitative, concerned with NGNs experiences in the West. No study has been conducted to date examining NGNs' transition experience in any of the developing countries where the cultural context and nursing education and practice are different to those in the West. Aim: To explore the experience of NGNs during their transition period in one of the developing countries, the Sultanate of Oman. Method: Qualitative case study utilising an embedded-single case design was conducted to investigate the transition experience of baccalaureate NGNs graduating from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and working at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH). Data were collected from the perspective of NGNs and also from the perspective of other key informants using triangulated methods. This includes individual and focus group interviews, observation and documentary analysis. Results: Four over-arching themes are identified from NGNs' transition experience in the Sultanate of Oman. These are 'Studying Experience'; 'Role Transition'; 'Working Conditions' and 'Status of the Nursing Profession'. This study showed that nursing is not an attractive choice for Omani students to study and pursue as a future career because of its low status. During the transition period, NGNs experienced reality shock which mainly resulted from a theory-practice gap. NGNs had limited practical experience but a high level of theoretical knowledge, which they were unable to utilise in practice. They found the working environment to involve many competing priorities resulting in task-orientation and compromised patient care. This study showed that many NGNs resented their involvement in basic nursing care, which they believed should not be part of their role as degree nurses. Despite the challenges of the transition period, many NGNs remarked that nurses play the most important role at the hospital and they are proud being nurses. Conclusion: Omani NGNs' transition experience is complex and similar in many respects to NGNs experience in the West. However, there are distinctive challenges Omani NGNs faced due to the Omani culture, working environment and the status of nursing in Oman.

A Predictive Model of Hispanic Participation in Texas Higher Education: Inferences Drawn from Institutional Data in Prevalent Hispanic States

Haynes, Robert Michael 08 1900 (has links)
In Texas, Hispanic populations (people of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race) have increased from 6.7 million in 2000 to 7.4 million in 2005, or by approximately 10.5%. This growth trend is expected to continue with estimates that Hispanics will represent approximately 37% of the state's population by 2015. The problem this research addressed is that participation in higher education by Texas Hispanics is not keeping pace with the growth in the Texas Hispanic population. If allowed to continue, the state could be in danger of realizing devastating economic and societal consequences. The present study utilized regression analysis to determine how well four institutional characteristics explained the variance in Hispanic enrollment and graduation percentages of students attending public 4-year institutions in states with prevalent Hispanic populations. Findings indicate that while local Hispanic population is a strong, positive predictor of Hispanic enrollments, it has a negative impact on Hispanic graduation rates. The independent variables of average cost of attendance and average financial aid package are the strongest predictors of Hispanic graduation percentages. Implications for the state of Texas include stress on public 4-year institutions in coping with Hispanic population increases, possible enrollment overflows at the community college level, and need for additional allocations to state and institutional financial aid programs.

Factors Contributing to the Three-Year Graduation Rate of Students in Technical Programs at an Urban Community College

Gantt, Aubra Jeanette 05 1900 (has links)
With an increasingly technological and competitive world economy, more jobs require employees to have achieved the advanced skills and knowledge gained only through postsecondary education. The data regarding the supply and demand between the workforce and higher education present a challenge for community college technical programs. These are the programs charged training the new workforce. An effort to increase the persistence and three-year graduation rate for technical students is one of Tarrant County College District's initiatives to prepare students for the workforce. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine factors that contribute to the three-year graduation rates of students enrolled in technical programs at the Northwest Campus of the Tarrant County College District. A quantitative survey approach was selected for this study targeting 191 technical students. The results of this study showed that females, who had established a degree plan and declared a major during the first two semesters at the urban community college campus under study, graduated in three years. The graduation rates for males in this study were lower than for females. Also, technical students who were 18 to 35 years old were more likely to graduate. Students who did not complete a degree plan in the first two semesters did not graduate in the three-year time frame. For the 77 respondents, students were more likely to graduate if they declared a major and established a degree plan. Implications for practice and recommendations for further study are provided.

The Effect of Participation in Advanced Placement And/or Dual Credit on Four-year Graduation Rates.

O'Keefe, Lynette Marie 12 1900 (has links)
Advanced Placement and dual credit programs are designed for high school students and are used to earn college credit and possibly gain college admissions advantages. The present research examined the impact of participation in one or both programs on four-year college graduation rates. Findings indicated significant differences between the programs as well as with students who did not participate in either program. Students in AP achieved the highest four-year graduation rate, followed by students in dual credit, both programs, and neither program. These findings indicate the need for further study to determine whether the programs substantially contribute to four-year graduation rates and what the implications are.

Acesso ao ensino superior e trajetórias dos egressos do Prouni / Acess to higher education and trajectories of graduates of Prouni

Saes, Paula Macchione, 1987- 27 August 2018 (has links)

This research discusses the Prouni - Program University for All - created by the Brazilian Federal Government in 2005. The program started in a context of important debates on public education policies for expanding access to higher education and also in a context of appearance of policies for affirmative action in universities. It aims to provide scholarships, partial or integral, for students, with low per capita family income, in undergraduate courses in private institutions of higher education. The objective of this research is to understand the effects of the Prouni to students that take part in the program and that, otherwise, would be excluded from this level of education. Therefore, by collecting interviews and questionnaires with a group of students, it investigates the trajectories of these graduates and how the insertion and higher education brought changes in their lives, especially regarding the possibility of placement in the labor market. The individual¿s histories and collective's trajectories demonstrate that, for a population with small or no perspective of ingression in higher education, the Prouni is an important opportunity as it opens a way to escape the family destiny / Mestrado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Mestra em Educação
