Charpin, Ariane 01 February 2019 (has links)
This doctoral thesis focuses on two distinct themes: decision-making in situations of risk and economic efficiency. These two questions are treated in an empirical framework using unique databases. The first chapter tests the theoretical models of decision under risk on bets on horseraces to identify the theory that allows the best description of individuals’ choices. This chapter shows that behavioral theories of decision under risk (cumulative prospect theory and rank-dependent utility) are better suited to explain the behavior of bettors observed in the data than the expected utility theory. The second chapter estimates the effect of a merger between two large companies in the urban transport sector in France on their costs. The results show that the merger did not result in efficiency gains for the merging parties. This result can be understood in light of the context in which the merger was conducted, in particular the reasons for the choice of the target, the perception of customers and employees of the merger, the differences in culture between the companies and the operational preparation of the merger. The third chapter examines the impact of greater discretion in tendering procedures on the selection of operators, particularly their productivity. The main result is that the procedure that potentially increases the discretion of public purchasers leads to the selection of less efficient companies than a procedure involving little or no discretion. Further analyzes suggest that the result is due to the effect of greater discretion at the screening stage.

Efficient information and knowledge distribution in high-tech production units utilizing graphical user interfaces / Effektiv informations- och kunskapsspridning inom högteknologiska produktionsenheter genom grafiska användargränssnitt

Fall, Jakob, Klinc, Rebecca January 2016 (has links)
This study aims to examine potential efficiency gains within a manufacturing unit by implementing processes for knowledge and information distribution. A specialized software tool, implementing processes for knowledge and information distribution, was developed and then examined to see if any efficiency gains could be accomplished. The scientific questions to be addressed were: Will well-defined strategies and processes for information and knowledge management lead to higher efficiency within a manufacturing unit? Is a specialized software a useful tool and how should it be designed to facilitate efficient information and knowledge management? With the help of information management theories, interviews and a field study five main problem areas were found. To counter the problem areas and approach the technical aspect of this study human-computer interactions theories were used to develop three prototypes in an iterative process. The third and final prototype was evaluated by using user testing and interview questions. We found that well-defined strategies and processes for information and knowledge management lead to higher efficiency within a manufacturing unit. By using the specialized software tool it will be easier to facilitate efficient information and knowledge management and that general rules on how to create such a software exists. Due to the result and reactions from the employees our recommendations is for FLIR Systems AB to conduct an implementation study using our software as the frontend.

Skatteskuld, flyttkostnad och ineffektivt utnyttjat bostadsbestånd : En kartläggning över Sveriges kommuner / Tax Debt, Moving Cost and Underutilized Housing Stock : A Mapping of the Swedish Municipalities

Kalmertun, Frida, Kjellström, Jens January 2023 (has links)
There are many indications that the Swedish housing market is functioning inefficiently, and statistics from the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning show that many municipalities are experiencing a housing deficit. Simultaneously, statistics from Statistics Sweden indicate that large parts of Sweden's existing housing stock are underutilized. Seeing as housing prices have steadily increased during the last decades, combined with the fact that many households live in their houses for many years, a large dormant tax debt has been built up in the Swedish municipalities. One factor affecting the household’s willingness to move is the size of the transaction costs generated by the sale of the property. A large part of the transaction costs includes the capital gains tax if the residence is sold at a profit.  The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge of the Swedish housing market by mapping the dormant tax debt, moving costs as a percentage of the price and residential mobility in the Swedish municipalities. The study thus examines whether there is a relationship between high moving costs and low residential mobility. The study applies a quantitative approach where data from Statistics Sweden, The Swedish Tax Agency and Valueguard are used to create a dataset of the Swedish municipalities. The results of the study show that the highest dormant tax debt is found in the major cities Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, while the municipalities with the highest moving costs as a percentage of the price of the single-family houses are found in Habo, Åre and Härjedalen. The municipalities of Orsa, Grästorp and Mullsjö show the highest moving costs as a percentage of the price for the condominium housing stock. The largest proportion of underutilized single-family houses is found in the municipalities Malung-Sälen, Härjedalen and Åre, where half of the single-family houses were empty, while the municipalities with the most underutilized condominium housing stock are Nordanstig, Berg and Åre. The study could however not show that there is a positive relationship between high moving costs and low mobility in the housing market.

Modelling and Analysis of Daylight, Solar Heat Gains and Thermal Losses to Inform the Early Stage of the Architectural Process / Modellering och analys av dagsljus, solvärmelaster och värmeförluster i tidiga arkitektoniska projektskeden

Baker, Nicholas January 2017 (has links)
The EU building sector is a main contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, which need to be cut as part of the global response to anthropogenic climate change. This cut can be realised through improvements in building energy performance, such as optimisation of facade design. The early stage of the architectural process has been identified as the ideal time to implement such sustainable design choices. There is need for simple guidelines and tools to provide quantitative data to support these architectural decisions. BIM and parametric design can provide this, by facilitating model-based analysis and simulation, as part of an unbroken flow of information through the design process. This study uses Dynamo (the visual programming add-in for Autodesk Revit) together with the Honeybee and Ladybug environmental plugins, to conduct daylight, solar heat gains and thermal losses analyses and simulations. The aim was to identify limitations and opportunities in using Dynamo-Revit, to establish an optimal range for glazing-to-wall ratio (GWR) and to provide some simple room-sizing guidelines for architects in the early stage of the design process. The Dynamo-Revit workflow was found to be effective for specific projects, but difficult to perfect for multiple different projects. An optimal range for GWR was found as 30-40% for east, south and west-facing rooms and around 50% for rooms facing only north. Results were tabulated, linking room orientation and depth with estimated daylight access, solar heat gains and thermal losses. The results were reasonable, but could be improved by the use of more sophisticated analysis and simulation techniques, which should be facilitated by forthcoming development of Honeybee and Ladybug in Dynamo.
