Acceptance of an Emergently Released Vaccine by the General Public: 2009 H1N1 Influenza Pandemic Vaccine

Nguyen, Trang January 2012 (has links)
The recent experience with the 2009 H1N1 pandemic has drawn attention to the need to better understand the public’s response to emergently released vaccines (ERV). This study applied a mixed methods approach to examine the causal pathways underlying the vaccination behaviour during a public health emergency. The integrated evidence from empirical and theoretical-based findings highlights a number of factors to consider in interventions to improve vaccination rates with an ERV. These factors include: 1) providing clear risk messages around the disease and the ERV, 2) improving accessibility to the vaccine, 3) encouraging primary healthcare providers to provide recommendations for vaccination, 4) implementing strategies to increase seasonal influenza vaccination prior to the next public health emergency, 5) developing strategies to target sub-populations more reluctant to accept an ERV. Developing theory-based interventions that are behaviour-specific may be more likely to result in behaviour change within the public in future emergency vaccination campaigns.

Obecné a zvláštní užívání pozemních komunikací / General and special public use of roads

Hradec, Vít January 2021 (has links)
General and special public use of roads Abstract Subject matter of this thesis is general and special public use, whose object are roads. Institutes relating to public use of roads, such as charging for general use, restriction of general use and possible means of use, are analysed in this thesis. Focus is also put on the newest changes in this field and recent case law. The text also includes author's considerations de lege ferenda. The text itself, excluding introduction and conclusion, is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter institute of public use is analysed, especially its object and subject. Public use is also split into general and special. The second chapter offers general interpretation relative to roads, which are the object of public use. This interpretation deals with categorisation and defining aspects of each category of roads. Increased attention is paid to local roads in relation to their previous legislation, and also to private roads in public use due to the circumstances of their origin. The main part is included in the third chapter, which deals directly with general and special use of roads, as is legislated in Law no. 13/1997 Coll., on Land Communications (Road Act) and other legal regulations regulating limits of such use. This chapter is divided to subchapters on...

De la réalisation d'une interface cerveau-ordinateur pour une réalité virtuelle accessible au grand public / Toward deploying brain-computer interfaces to virtual reality for the general public

Cattan, Grégoire 27 May 2019 (has links)
In spite of ongoing developments in the conception of electroencephalographic (EEG) headsets and brain signal analysis, the actual use of an EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCI) is still restricted to research settings. On the other hand, BCI technology candidates as a good complement to virtual reality as it may diminish the distance between the user and his/her avatar. A BCI can accomplish this by circumventing the usual muscular pathway between the brain and the machine, thus enhancing the immersion feeling in VR applications. Moreover, a BCI provides valuable information on the mental state of the user, such as concentration and attention for the task at hand and for the virtual objects of interest. In this thesis, we study the coupling of BCI and VR technology, a human-machine interface that is potentially ubiquitous, in particular for gaming. We focus on the use of EEG-based BCI with occasional visual stimulation, i.e., BCIs based on the detection of the P300, a positive evoked potential appearing in the EEG 250 to 600 ms after the presentation of a stimulus. We investigate the use of such a BCI to interact with VR environments obtained using a mobile head-mounted display based on an ordinary smartphone, material suiting well the general public. The fusion of BCI technology with VR faces technical, experimental and conceptual limitations. Indeed, the integration of BCI with a mobile head-mounted display is technically burdensome and has not been fully validated. The factors impacting the performance of the BCI in VR remains still unknown. Also, unknown are the physiological characteristics of the brain responses to VR stimuli as compared to the same stimuli displayed on a PC screen. Finally, both BCI and VR technologies are limited, and these limitations sometimes appears contradictory. For example, the EEG is perturbed by the user’s movements while s/he is interacting with the virtual environment, but this movement may be an essential aspect of the VR experience. Thus, it is necessary to operate a synthesis of the existing design recommendations for BCI and VR technologies from the perspective of a mixed BCI+VR application. In this work, we presents three contributions: a technical implementation of a BCI+VR system, paving the way for a general public use; an analysis of its performance and an analysis of the physiological differences produced by VR stimuli as compared to the same stimuli on a PC by means of two experimental campaigns carried out on 33 subjects; a synthesis of the recommendations to adapt the application design to BCI and VR.

Educar no museu : o Museu Histórico Nacional e a educação no campo dos museus (1932-1958)

Faria, Ana Carolina Gelmini de January 2017 (has links)
The present dissertation is aimed at investigating the formulation by actors and institutions in the field of museology in Brazil of the educational role of Brazilian museums, especially the National Historic Museum. The research focuses on the period between 1930 and 1950, with precise temporal demarcations in 10932, when the Brazilian course on Museology was created, and 1958, when UNESCO’s first Regional Seminary on the educational role of museums occurred. The study combines elements of History of Education and the History of Museums, and is mainly based on the premises of Cultural History. I have assumed that the relationships under investigation belonged to the field of museums and, for my analysis, I have borrowed the concept of defined field from the Works of Pierre Bourdieu. The research starts from the premise that the social function of museums has evolved over the 20th century in a way that gave increasing importance to education. It has become clear from the analysis of the available records (newspaper articles, official documents, books, articles, reports, interviews with old museum professionals, etc.) that actors and institutions have made a conscious theoretical-methodological effort to legitimize museums as learning spaces. The educational role of museums was increased through three means: visual education, education for the general public, a national project that required public instruction. The works of authors such as François Hartog, Luis Gerardo Morales Moreno, Manoel Luiz Salgado Guimarães, Michel de Certeau, Paulo Knauss, Roger Chartier, Suely Moraes Ceravolo, Ulpiano Bezerra de Meneses, among others, were instrumental for the development of this dissertation. Empirical research was done at the National History Museum, a federal institution explicitly committed to civic education. Among several projects, special attention has been given to the creation of a diploma giving program in museology, which has stimulated the entry of a new agent in the field. Finally, the research has identified an extensive body of work by committed museum professionals about the educational role that ought to be given to museums, as well as intense Exchange between these professionals and those in the field of education. Srovnání znalostí z teorie elektromagnetického pole u laiků a odborníků v rámci civilní nouzové připravenosti / The comparison of knowledge of electromagnetic field theory for laymen and experts within the civil emergency preparedness

VESELÁ, Barbora January 2016 (has links)
The thesis "Comparison of knowledge of electromagnetic field theory of the laity and experts in the context of civil emergency preparedness" to put three goals: 1. The formation of the structure of an electromagnetic field for experts. 2. The reaching of the comparison of knowledge among experts and laymen. 3. Statistical processing of the results. The author has set the following hypotheses: H1. Theoretical distribution of knowledge in a sample of the general public will have a normal distribution . H2. Theoretical distribution of knowledge in a sample of professional community will not have a normal distribution. H3. The comparison of knowledge among the experts and the laymen will lead to an alternative hypothesis. The thesis was based on the knowledge of the theory curricular process. On the basis of this theory was made up not only the structure of the electromagnetic field, but also the questionnaire. An important step in this thesis was the creating a model structure of electromagnetic field . The structure was based on an analysis of the scientific system - the system of educational programs in the field of civil protection. The same structure was applied to the general public. An important step was to compare the knowledge of protect the population from experts and laymen. This issue has not been investigated in detail and it did not compare the knowledge of laymen and experts in the studied physics. The idea came from the possibility of extraordinarily events where respondents can meet with electromagnetic fields and will need the relevant theoretical knowledge. The aim was to the statistical evaluate of the applied questionnaires. There were applied nonparametric and parametric testing as the verification methods. The theoretical division of knowledge of experts is supposed Poisson distribution, on the contrary, the theoretical division of the general public should have a normal distribution. There was also compared the difference between knowledge of laymen and professionals. The using of the statistical methods have been received and confirmed the hypothesis and the thesis goals were fulfilled.

Srovnání znalostí laické a odborné veřejnosti z jaderné fyziky pro ochranu obyvatelstva / Comparison of knowledge from nuclear physics for protection of inhabitants at laical and expert community

BARTOŇOVÁ, Miroslava January 2014 (has links)
The primary objective of this thesis was to achieve comparison of knowledge of nuclear physics for population protection between general and professional public. This idea is based on the assumption of the possible existence of extraordinary events with occurring ionizing radiation and for this reason it is necessary to train specialists for the eventuality of these cases. These professionals should have wider knowledge of nuclear physics than general lay population. This issue has not been examined with lay and professional public yet, as well as there has been no comparison of the two listed groups. Another objective of this thesis was to structure the basics of nuclear physics for workers in civil protection training. For this purpose, the author of this work created a model of nuclear physics, reflecting the basic knowledge of nuclear physics, based on the analysis of the curricula for the IRS. The author explored the forms of studies of university program for the public protection, of members of the Fire and Rescue Service, of university study program for paramedics, of staff of the Anti-organised crime department of Police of the Czech Republic and of the Customs Administration. The analysis showed the widest expected range of knowledge at the technicians of the Chemical Service of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech republic (the chemist), who are professionally trained in the handling of hazardous substances and ionizing radiation sources. These members have become the monitored representatives for the professional community in the survey of this thesis. Lay general public was represented by people from the social circle of the author of this work, i.e. they were an unrepresentative sample of the general public. The theory of physics curricular process was also used, the application of which served to create an alternative test from nuclear physics, which was presented to the respondents. The questionnaires were filled in by 52 technicians of the Chemical Service of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech republic from different parts of the country and by 50 people of the lay public. It should be noted that the questionnaire was created considering the training of the technicians of the Chemical Service, in which nuclear physics has only a supporting role. One of the objectives of the thesis also included the subsequent statistical evaluation of the applied tests of the knowledge of nuclear physics. For validating mainly the non-parametric and parametric hypotheses tests were used. For the theoretical division of knowledge among professionals the existence of the Poisson distribution (the distribution of "rare" cases) was assumed and the theoretical division of investigating the general public should be close to a normal distribution. Also the difference between the knowledge of laymen and experts was investigated. To meet the defined objectives of this work three hypotheses were set, for their verification the methods of descriptive and mathematical statistics were used. Hypotheses were set as follows: H1. Theoretical distribution of knowledge among the general public will be close to normal distribution. H2. Theoretical distribution of knowledge among professionals will not have a normal distribution. H3. Comparison of knowledge in both groups by using the parametric tests will lead to the adoption of alternative hypothesis. All three defined hypotheses were verified via statistical survey and accepted positively. The test, however, does not show the ability or inability of the tested experts to carry out practical tasks associated with their profession. This thesis only aimed to discover theoretical knowledge of nuclear physics, which is based on the theoretical assumption that specialists dealing with adverse events with occurring ionizing radiation pass through a variety of specialized courses that include introduction to the theory of nuclear physics.
