Incelstankar kring feminism : En kvalitativ analys av onlineforum för incelsEnglesson, Julia January 2023 (has links)
Incels thoughts about feminism – A qualitative analysis of an online forum for incels The field of research on incels and their ideology is constantly expanding. While incels online may be a modern phenomenon, it is actively studied by today's researchers. Previous research has primarily focused on incels with links to terrorism, misogyny, and their online activity. Through a thematic analysis, posts created by incels on the website incels.is are studied. The purpose of the study is to examine the thoughts and opinions expressed by forum users regarding feminism and feminists. It also aims to investigate how they justify their criticism of the feminist worldview. The study employs two research questions that guide the research process: How is feminism and feminists described on the online incels forum? and what arguments are used to criticize a feminist worldview? The results of the study indicate that forum users believe feminism and feminists have an end goal of attaining ultimate power in society and, through this, excluding men. The results revealed various ideas about the methods used by feminism to achieve this goal. It is through these ideas that incels justify a negative view of feminism.

Ageism and gender through the mirror: the case of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)Amghar Lopez, Fatima January 2023 (has links)
In the tradition of western film sector, the mirror has played different roles, from displayingrepresentations of the female body that subsumes into the satisfaction of the male eye toprojecting gendered standards that have taken part in the construction of Western socialimaginaries. Since the motion picture sector is a form of public discourse that influences andshapes beliefs, imagery and cultural practices of a given society, this thesis puts underscrutiny the relation to the mirror in both symbolic and material perspectives through the casestudy of the main mirror scenes of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022). By combininggender sensitive analysis and compositional interpretation methodologies, this thesis showsthe potential of the mirror as an instrument of change and empowerment in relation to genderand ageism. It demonstrates that employing the mirror through a feminist lens enables the denormalisation of negative stereotypes of bodily appearance that are scarcely representedonscreen, as it is the case of aged female bodies. Simultaneously, it renegotiates therelationship between youth and adulthood and disrupts hegemonic representations ofmasculinity. This master’s thesis offers a new feminist perspective of non-normative bodilyappearances using the mirror as the main source of analysis.

Women's fear of violence in public spacesGebremedhin, Frehiwot January 2022 (has links)
Women have historically feared public violence. Although many studies have been undertaken to find solutions, non-western women's experiences have been overlooked. This thesis studies how women's fear of public violence inhibits their movement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The research used semi-structured interview and a narrative analysis based on a theoretical framework separated into public violence, culture, and safety work. The result indicated that fear of violence affects these women's urban movement and societal norms, economic position, and the acceptance of public aggression worsen the situation. Raising awareness in the society was proposed as a solution to overcome public violence.

”This is really close, the way we all are” : A queer phenomenological study of chosenfamilies in BelgiumVesterlund, Tove January 2023 (has links)
This study explores chosen families within the queer community in Belgium. Chosen families and their dynamics are not well understood because they do not follow the heteronormative way of forming a family. The aim is to see how queer individuals understand and construct their families. It is important to show how people outside of the heteronormative system care for each other because they don’t fit in to the norms that are upheld in society. Five people were interviewed, and the resulting transcripts were analyzed using queer phenomenology and thematic analysis. The material showed that there are different ways of constructing a queer family, and that there are certain objects and places that support this process. It also shows how the participants care for their families by sanctioning some heteronormative practices, such as marriage and caring for “kids”. These findings provide us with insight into how families can be created in unique ways, and how people care for others by challenging the norms of what it means to be in a family. /
2023-09-14

Defining and Challenging Masculinity in the EFL Classroom : Masculine Norms and Identity in Connection to Rick Moody´s “Boys”.Paulsson, Oliver January 2024 (has links)
The aim with the following study is to define and analyse different types of masculinities in literature, present why they occur and how to work with them in the EFL classroom. The primary source used in this essay is Rick Moody´s short story “Boys”. This text follows two brothers growing up with masculine norms and how they affect them throughout life. In this essay, it is concluded that masculinity is a complex topic with many different versions that can be found in the primary source. Furthermore, this study also offers an explanation that masculinities emerge from society’s expectations and the adaption of grown-ups´ behaviour. In addition to this, it is also stated that working with texts about identity and gender expectations is a necessity in the EFL classroom. By introducing this text, the pupils are invited to explore their own identity and different ways of living, moving from masculinities with negative consequences to masculinities with good consequences.

Untangling Stereotypes : The cultural significance of women’s hair in modern media representationsMavridi, Christina January 2024 (has links)
This study explores the symbolic significance of women’s hair, in the context of Greek television commercials produced by transnational cosmetic companies. It especially navigates how gender roles are shaped and power dynamics are created in different cultures and different outlets. I will use a small selection of Greek television hair commercials to assist me with my exploration, trying to uncover the underlying messages about gender, power, and identity from an intersectional perspective of “global” visual culture. The starting point for my investigation is the amassing evidence that we are living in predominately patriarchal and capitalist societies in Europe. Furthermore, these power structures are inherent and part of the cultural and visual heritage of symbolism and associations that (not hide) convey intricate layers of power dynamics that give shape, in turn to, perceptions of gender and identity, also in Greece. With this study, I aim to delve into a better understanding of how visual media and commercial advertising, instrumentalize women's hair as a symbol that ultimately are shaping societal attitudes and promoting stereotypes in the Greek context of hair product commerce. Expectations of femininity as “to-be-looked-at-ness”, to use a prominent concept from 1980s feminist film scholar Laura Mulvey, confirms, for instance, stereotypes of heterosexual male looking, or “the male gaze”, as something women consumers are expected to internalize in “buying into” these television commercials and hair products. From an intersectional gender studies perspective to representations of beauty, this thesis explores such visual expectations and symbolic assumptions about femininity, heteronormativity, and imagined “Greek-ness” in a transnational corporate world. Key Words: Hair symbolism, power dynamics, gender roles, visual media, male gaze

Omedvetet styrd i karriären – från norm till val : Studie- och yrkesvägledares syn på vuxna individers könsbundna yrkesval / Unconsciously Guided in Career Choices – from Norm to Choice : Study- and Career Counselors' Perspectives on Gendered Occupational Choices of AdultsJohansson, Helena, Fredriksson, Ulrika January 2024 (has links)

Who gets to play the electronic musik? : A gender equal perspective on Lost Beach club stage in Ecuador.Lindén, Carolina January 2016 (has links)
The purpose with this thesis was to, through a gender perspective, get an insight in equality between genders at the electronic music stage is in Ecuador, with the renowed club Lost Beach Club as a sample for this study. The thesis is based on an observation study made in November 2016 at three different events, marketing materials and correspondence with a producer. The result was adopted through some different approaches of feministic theory and showed that on the electronic music stage at Lost Beach Club gender equality was not presented, and no consciousness about the subject existed. Men was more represented than women but they all got the same response and respect from the audience. The women was excluded unconsciously since they did not have the same opportunities to reach the big stages as men because of the masculine norms in the field.
