Från Camping till Glamping : En turismvetenskaplig studie kring implementering av glamping som verksamhetsutvecklingsstrategi för campingverksamheter

Denna vetenskapliga studie har haft fokus på att se huruvida fenomenet glamping kan implementeras som utvecklingsstrategi inom campingplatser i Västra Götaland och Värmland. Även miljömässig hållbarhet utifrån de deltagande verksamheterna har studerats för att möjliggöra för att se likheter och skillnader mellan verksamheter inom glamping, camping med glamping och för renodlade campingverksamheter. Just camping och glampingverksamheter valdes dels genom ett intresse inom glamping, dels genom erfarenhet av arbete på campingplatser under studietiden. Både intresset kring glamping och erfarenheten kring att arbeta inom camping anser författaren ha givit både insikt inom fältet för camping såväl som ett utökat intresse för glamping som verksamhetsutvecklingsstrategi för campingverksamheter. Studiens metod utgörs av en kvalitativ innehållsanalys som baseras på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer. Vidare har en analys av de deltagande verksamheters webbplatser genomförts, detta för att få en så god helhetsbild över verksamhetens miljömässiga hållbarhetsarbete som möjligt.  Studien har resulterat i att se huruvida glamping kan användas i syfte för verksamhetsutveckling inom befintliga campingverksamheter. Resultatet visar att det finns skildringar över vad glamping är respektive inte är, men att glamping kan användas som verksamhetsutvecklingsstrategi för att möjliggöra för en ny målgrupp besökare, men även som en Unique Selling Point ”USP” för verksamheter vilka erbjuder glamping i relation till verksamheter som inte erbjuder glamping. Även har studien resulterat i en checklista för att förenkla utveckling av verksamheter som vill från camping till glamping för att möjliggöra för framtida hållbar turism. / This scientific study has focused on seeing whether the phenomenon of glamping can be implemented as a development strategy within campsites in Västra Götaland and Värmland. Environmental sustainability based on the participating businesses has also been studied to make it possible to see similarities and differences between businesses within glamping, camping with glamping and pure camping businesses. Camping and glamping businesses were chosen partly through an interest in glamping, partly through experience of working on campsites during the study period. Both the interest in glamping and the experience in working with camping, the author believes, has given both insight into the field of camping as well as an increased interest in glamping as a business development strategy for camping businesses. The study's method consists of a qualitative content analysis based on qualitative semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, an analysis of the participating businesses' websites has been carried out, to get as good an overall picture of the business's environmental sustainability work as possible.  The study has resulted in seeing whether glamping can be used for the purpose of business development within existing camping operations. The results show that there are different answers to what glamping is, and what it is not, but that glamping can be used as a business development strategy to enable a new target group of visitors, but also as a Unique Selling Point "USP" for businesses that offer glamping in relation to businesses that does not offer glamping. The study has also resulted in a checklist to simplify the development of businesses that want to move from camping to glamping to enable future sustainable tourism.

Modelo de negocio para la implementación de Hotel Glamping en Chachapoyas / Business model for the implementation of a Glamping Hotel in Chachapoyas

El presente plan de negocios tiene como objetivo establecer la viabilidad financiera para implementar un hotel glamping en Amazonas, Chachapoyas. La investigación inicia con el análisis de la oportunidad de negocio, considerando datos y cifras de turismo de los últimos 10 años, seguido de las motivaciones y tendencias de turismo actuales. Además, se consideró los planes estratégicos de reactivación post Covid 19 en el sector turismo, para identificar nuevos destinos y servicios que satisfagan las necesidades e intereses del turista actual. Estableciendo una oportunidad de negocio en la región de Amazonas, con el planteamiento de un tipo de hospedaje diferenciado de acuerdo con las tendencias del sector. Por otro lado, mediante un sondeo al perfil del turista objetivo, se validó el concepto y tipo de servicio que contempla la propuesta de hotel glamping, que combina la experiencia de acampar al aire libre y que cuenta con todas las comodidades y condiciones de un hotel; ubicado en la localidad de Cocachimba con vista a la Catarata de Gocta y a una hora de la Fortaleza de Kuélap. Asimismo, se establecieron procesos y estrategias que, sumado al análisis financiero, se determinó la viabilidad financiera del proyecto. Los resultados obtenidos de los flujos económicos y financieros descontados al costo ponderado del capital son positivos. Los beneficios obtenidos en la implementación del proyecto y las operaciones comerciales del hotel son superiores a los costos de inversión y egresos incurridos. Por lo tanto, resulta rentable para los inversionistas llevar a cabo dicho proyecto. / The objective of this business plan is to establish the financial viability for implementing a glamping hotel in Amazonas, Chachapoyas. The research begins with the analysis of the business opportunity, considering tourism data and figures from the last 10 years, followed by current tourism incentives and trends. In addition, the post-Covid 19 reactivation strategic plans in the tourism sector were considered to identify new destinations and services that meet the needs and interests of nowadays tourists. Establishing a business opportunity in the Amazon region, with the approach of a differentiated type of accommodation according to the trends of the sector.  On the other hand, by means of a survey of the target tourist profile, the concept and type of service contemplated in the glamping hotel proposal was corroborated, which combines the experience of camping outdoors and has all the comforts and conditions of a hotel; located in the town of Cocachimba overlooking the Gocta Waterfall and at one hour from the Kuelap Fortress.  Likewise, processes and strategies were established which, added to the financial analysis, determined the financial viability of the project. The results obtained from the economic and financial flows discounted to the weighted cost of capital are positive. The benefits obtained in the implementation of the project and the hotel's commercial operations are higher than the investment costs and expenses incurred. Therefore, it is profitable for investors to carry out such a project. / Trabajo de investigación

Reko Eko - Glamping ur ett miljövänligt perspektiv : En kvalitativ studie som belyser ekologiskt hållbarnaturturism i form av glampingTurismvetenskap

I denna studie har glampingkonceptet studerats utifrån ett ekologiskt hållbarhetsperspektiv som fördjupat sig i svenska glampingföretags praktiska arbetsstrategier för att värna om miljön som glampingen äger rum i, samt hur hållbarhet är framträdande i aktörernas marknadsföring. Vårt intresse till studiens ämne baserades på nyfikenhet kring naturturismens ökande efterfrågan och hur det kommer att påverka den svenska naturen. Vi valde därför att fokusera på det naturbaserade turismfenomenet glamping, som förespås bli en efterfrågad produkt. Vi genomförde semistrukturerade intervjuer med etablerade glampingaktörer i Sverige för att samla kunskap om hur de arbetar för att driva en hållbar turismprodukt utan att överexploatera naturens miljö. Vidare studerades också hur hållbarhet framställs i aktörernas marknadsföring då tidigare forskare har konstaterat att glamping är en hållbar variant av naturturism. För att studera likheter och skillnader mellan aktörernas marknadsföring utfördes strukturerade observationer av varje företags Instagram och webbplats. Studien genererade ett resultat som påvisade att de intervjuade aktörerna använde likartade metoder för att värna om platserna som glamping utövas på. Däremot fanns det skillnader i företagens marknadsföring och hur de använde och framställde hållbarhet. / In this study, the glamping concept has been studied from an ecological sustainability perspective, focusing on Swedish glamping companies’ practical strategies to protect the environment in which glamping takes place, and how sustainability is prominent in their marketing. Our interest in this subject was based on curiosity about the growing demand of nature-based tourism and how it will affect the Swedish nature. Therefore, we chose to focus on the nature-based tourism phenomenon glamping, which researchers say will become a high-demand product. We interviewed established glamping companies in Sweden to gather knowledge about how they work to run a sustainable tourism product without over-exploiting the nature and environment. We also studied whether and how sustainability is produced in the marketing as previous researchers have found that glamping is a sustainable alternative of natural tourism. In order to study similarities and differences between the companies marketing, observations were made of each company’s Instagram and website. The study generated a result that demonstrated that the companies used similar methods and strategies to safeguard the environment were glamping is practiced. However, there were differences in the companies’ marketing and how they used and produced sustainability.

Glamping jako nová forma cestovního ruchu a analýza jeho potenciálu v Česku / Glamping as a new form of tourism and an analysis of its potential in Czechia

The diploma thesis deals with a new form of tourism - glamping in Czechia. Based on the analysis of the Czech glamping offer explains the current development and potential of glamping in Czechia. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical framing of glamping tourism as part of tourism and its general characteristics and latest development. An important point of the thesis was to define the geographical distribution of glamping in the world. Based on the identified characteristics, a qualitative research of glamping in Czechia were created, the methods of which are the analysis of market supply and demand and the method of semi-structured interview and field research. The empirical part of the thesis is based on an analysis of the current state of glamping in Czechia. In this part, the locations of glamping and the preconditions for glamping destinations in Czechia were defined, which contains also a general characteristic, which also deals with the target group and the seasonality of glamping. The thesis was written during the Covid-19 pandemic, and therefore examines its effects and consequences especially on glamping tourism.
