These components offer contamination risk to the environment and to the people who have contact with them. It is necessary to know these residues very well, providing them proper disposal, with proper management and administration of generators, reducing the risk of contamination. Cities, due to the concentration of people, services and equipment, and the privileged locus of social life, also present problems related to collective life in a process of implosion-explosion. The concentration of people, activities and necessary tools for urban life can generate a burst of fragments harmful to society. The improper management of waste can pose health into fragments that reach urban life, especially with regard to public health, damaging the city as a complex socio and spacial set. Given the above, this paper analyzed the generation of waste from health services in the city of Rio Verde, based on the characterization of procedures in relation to its proper treatment and disposal. Therefore, the data have been collected, with reference to the thematic in question, in the municipal, state and federal agencies, as ANVISA, City Hall, the Municipal Health Department, Municipal Environment Department. Waste management of health services is not yet satisfactorily accomplished, especially when it concerns the segregation and storage. Guidelines such as the environmental impact assessment for the installation of waste treatment techniques, continuing education processes that clarify the managers and generators for the responsibility of establishing and implementing the waste management plan of health services, and a more effective supervision by regulatory agencies is even necessary.

In the region of the Almas River, northern State of Goiás, occurs a gneissoid alkalime complex formed by nepheline-syenite, syenite, quartz-syenite and granite. This complex is the core of a brachyanticlyne whose major axis has more than 30 km along th.e submeridian direction and whose flanks are composed of schists and quartzites of Serra da Mesa, group (1.1 - 1.2 b.y. old, Uruaçuano cycle). Posttectonic pegmatoid granites and several pegmatites are associated with that complex. These pegmatites are zoned and the majority shows both mineralogical and textural internai zonning. Mineralogical, petrological and geochemical studies compled with field observations showed that there are two distinct pegmatite generations: syenitic pegmatites consisting of plagioclase, K-feldspar, biotite, and zircon; and granitic pegmatites composed of K-feldspar, plagioclase, quartz, biotite muscovite, amphibole, garnet and beryl. The analysis of these data indicated that these bodies are genetically related to the magmatic events that generated both the alkaline rocks and the pegmatoid granite at different periods of time. The granitic magmatism was developed in the posttectonic phase of the Uruaçuano cycle. In this region there are disseminated primary zircon and corindon deposits associated with the alkaline rocks as well as secondary (alluvial and colluvial) deposits of these mineral derived from the primary bodies by weathering and residual concentration processes.

Decoding the ERP/Behavior Link: A Trial-Level Approach to the NoGo-N200 Component

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: In most of the work using event-related potentials (ERPs), researchers presume the function of specific components based on the careful manipulation of experimental factors, but rarely report direct evidence supporting a relationship between the neural signal and other outcomes. Perhaps most troubling is the lack of evidence that ERPs correlate with related behavioral outcomes which should result, at least in part, from the neural processes that ERPs capture. One such example is the NoGo-N2 component, an ERP component elicited in Go/NoGo paradigms. There are two primary theories regarding the functional significance of this component in this context: that the signal represents response inhibition and that the component reflects conflict. In this paper, a trial-level method of analysis for the relationship between ERP component potentials and downstream behavioral outcomes (in this case, response accuracy) using a multi-level modeling framework is proposed to provide discriminatory evidence for one of these theories. Following a description of the research on the NoGo-N2, preliminary data supporting the conflict monitoring theory are presented, noting important limitations. Next, an EEG simulation study is presented in which NoGo-N2 data are generated with a known relationship to fabricated reaction time data, showing that, with added levels of complexity and noise within the data, the MLM approach is consistently successful at extracting the known relationships that occur in real NoGo-N2 data. Next, using independent components analysis (ICA) to extract spatiotemporal components that best represent the signal of interest, a well-powered analysis of the relationship between the NoGo-N2 and response accuracy is used to provide strong discriminatory evidence for the conflict monitoring theory of the NoGo-N2. Finally, implications for the NoGo-N2, as well as all ERP components, are discussed with a focus on how this approach can and should be used. the paper concludes with potential expansions of this approach to areas beyond identifying the function of ERP components. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Psychology 2019

Letting Go and the Silence that Remains: The Effects of Translating Point-of-view from Text to Film in <em>The Remains of the Day</em> and <em>Never Let Me Go</em>

Price, Jennifer L. 04 March 2011 (has links)
Kazuo Ishiguro's novels The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go exhibit many of the same characteristics as his other works. Out of all of those works, however, only these two novels have been adapted to film as of yet. Because of Ishiguro's reliance on first-person narration and point-of-view his novels are particularly more problematic to adapt to screen. This phenomenon is partially due to the audio-visually dependent medium of film and the camera lens' limitations when it comes to exhibiting character interiority. Therefore, the effect of the translation to screen for both of these films is a shift in how the viewing audience responds to the characters as both characters and as human beings. This shift at times augments, expands, or changes the philosophical implications of Ishiguro's works. This paper explores those shifts and permutations and argues that they can ultimately lead to a more empathetic connection between the viewer and the characters in the stories.

Ishibashi, Tiago Haruo. January 2013 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Several studies on the macroalgae of lotic environments were conducted in Brazil, but they are still scarce when land area and the diversity of environments are considered. It should be emphasized that most of them are restricted to São Paulo and Paraná States. This study aimed to survey the flora and analyze the structure and distribution of ecological communities of stream macroalgae of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and surround area. The park is located in Goiás State and the cerrado (Brazilian savanna) is the predominant vegetational type. In terms of biomes, the cerrado biome is known for having one of the highest biodiversity and endemism rate. Sixteen stream segments were sampled in two occasions, one in the rainy season (April 2010) and one in the dry period (July 2011). Fifteen specific taxa, six "vegetative groups" (belonging to the genera Spirogyra, Oedogonium and Zygnema) and one "Chantransia pygmaea" stage were found in this study. Cyanobacteria and Chlorophyta were the most representative groups (41% of all taxa), followed by the Rhodophyta group (18%). Many species were restricted in distribution occurring in one or two sampling sites (72.7%). The macroalgae that occurred in three or more sampling sites were Microspora floccosa (7), "Chantransia pygmaea" (4), Oedogonium sp. (4), Stigonema ocellatum (4), Sirodotia delicatula (3) and Spirogyra sp. 2 (3). Only one species represents a new record to Brazil, Stigonema multipartitum. The abundance (percentage cover) data showed that the dry period (2011) was favorable for the growth of macroalgal communities, although also revealed a high dominance of few species, which features a niche pre-emption standard. For the rainy season, the evenness of the sampling sites was higher, indicating that precipitation can be a... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

The Place of Go-Set in Rock & Pop Music Culture in Australia, 1966 to 1974

Kent, David Martin, n/a January 2002 (has links)
This is the first academic examination of the place and history of works produced by Go-Set Publications in studies of contemporary Australian teenage culture. Go-Set (Go-Set Publications, Melbourne) is perhaps the single most significant musicbased newspaper in the history of Australian teenage popular culture. Go-Set reflected the teenage culture of the period 1966 to 1974, helping create a dynamic independently thriving Australian rock music scene from 1969. It was independently owned and operated, set its own agendas and defined its own place in Australian teenage society. Go-Set's history is given as a biography (following van Zuilen (1977) in distinct stages from birth till death, highlighting the important landmarks of its life. In particular Go-Set led culturally by developing the first National Top-40 song chart. It provided musicians and non-musicians with weekly updates on the nature of the Australia's teenage music-based societal culture. It led in the development of a teenage counter-culture by keeping readers informed about alternative thinking and ideologies through the views of pop/rock stars, and later, more editorially directly, through its radical sister publication Revolution. Go-Set survived because readers continued to support it. It both entertained and informed. It gave young Australians the necessary knowledge, instruction, and advice to keep them up-to-date in a changing social scene To explain why Go-Set was so important to its readers, this thesis postulates a series of six speculative models describing how readers might have used the newspaper. These models suggest a process of usage relevant to teenage socialisation, by defining the criteria for acceptance of Go-Set's content as sets of instructions, or codes, of particular social relevance, namely the codes of personal life, music, fashion, and alternative lifestyle. The models postulate some sociological and psychological reasons for reading Go-Set, and suggest why the magazine was so successful during a period when other, similar, magazines failed.

Fuel Optimized Predictive Following in Low Speed Conditions / Bränsleoptimerad prediktiv följning i låga hastigheter

Jonsson, Johan January 2003 (has links)
<p>The situation when driving in dense traffic and at low speeds is called Stop and Go. A controller for automatic following of the car in front could under these conditions reduce the driver's workload and keep a safety distance to the preceding vehicle through different choices of gear and engine torque. The aim of this thesis is to develop such a controller, with an additional focus on lowering the fuel consumption. With help of GPS, 3D-maps and sensors information about the slope of the road and the preceding vehicle can be obtained. Using this information the controller is able to predict future possible control actions and an optimization algorithm can then find the best inputs with respect to some criteria. The control method used is Model Predictive Control (MPC) and as the name indicate a model of the control object is required for the prediction. To find the optimal sequence of inputs, the optimization method Dynamic Programming choose the one which lead to the lowest fuel consumption and satisfactory following. Simulations have been made using a reference trajectory which was measured in a real traffic jam. The simulations show that it is possible to follow the preceding vehicle in a good way and at the same time reduce the fuel consumption with approximately 3 %.</p>

Development and Implementation of Stop and Go Operating Strategies in a Test Vehicle

Johansson, Ann-Catrin January 2005 (has links)
<p>The department REI/EP at DaimlerChrysler Research and Technology and the Laboratory for Efficient Energy Systems at Trier University of Applied Science, are developing control functions and fuel optimal strategies for low speed conditions. The goal of this thesis project was to further develop the fuel optimal operating strategies, and implement them into a test vehicle equipped with a dSPACE environment. This was accomplished by making optimal reference signals using dynamic programming. Optimal, in this case, means signals that results in low fuel consumption, comfortable driving, and a proper distance to the preceding vehicle. These reference signals for the velocity and distance are used by an MPC controller (Model Predictive Control) to control the car. In every situation a suitable reference path is chosen, depending on the velocities of both vehicles, and the distance. The controller was able to follow another vehicle in a proper way. The distance was kept, the driving was pleasant, and it also seems like it is possible to save fuel. When accepting some deviations in distance to the preceding car, a fuel reduction of 8 % compared to the car in front can be achieved.</p>
