Cervantes e a nova arte de novelar em \'Rinconete y Cortadillo\' / Cervantes and the new art of writing novels in \'Rinconete y Cortadillo\'

Paula Renata de Araújo 26 March 2010 (has links)
The objective of this work is to contextualize Rinconete y Cortadillo exemplary novel within the works of Miguel de Cervantes and analyze it by establishing a dialogue with some of the literary genres of its time, namely the picaresque novel and drama. This current dissertation examines how the text evolves since it was first mentioned in Don Quixote (1605) until its publication among the Exemplary Novels in 1613. I will analyze the several forms of speech pervading the novel in light of Cervantes propinquity to the picaresque literature .By incorporating into the narrative drama-related elements, the author brings his work to deal more closely with everyday topics, as comedy has been used to. Thereby one can notice how Rinconete y Cortadillo displays, both comically and satirically, certain vices and blemishes present in the 16th- and 17thcentury Sevillan society.

Going beyond the domestic sphere : women's literature for children, 1856-1902

Kim, Koeun January 2015 (has links)
My thesis explores how female writers of the Golden Age of children’s literature used their domestic stories to convey their visions of a more desirable society to their child readers, and thus to widen their influence beyond the homely sphere. My first chapter reconsiders the nineteenth-century historical circumstances wherein the woman and the child came to be constructed and enshrined as the domestic woman and the Romantic child within the home, and excluded from the public discourses. I then consider how in domestic stories women writers tried to overcome this shared deprivation of autonomy with the child, focusing on the works of Charlotte Yonge, Juliana Ewing, and Mary Louisa Molesworth. It emerges that these women writers were all keen to encourage their young readers to question the boundaries that separate home from the public realm, and to imagine a society wherein these dividing lines would be mitigated and even be extinguished. The thesis argues that these female writers’ literary efforts to exhaust the potential of the domestic story, and that their motivation to provide their child readers a sense of agency were integral in the development of Golden Age children’s literature. Charlotte Yonge’s technique of evoking sympathy for the child characters forged a more intimate relationship between adult author and young reader, and initiated the unsettling of the hierarchy between old and young, and author and reader. Juliana Ewing’s experiments with child narrators and her mingling of adventure and fantasy stories with domestic stories showed successive writers the various directions the domestic story could go. Mary Louisa Molesworth’s nursery stories realized the purpose of Ewing’s literary experiments, as her stories’ natural interweaving of quotidian nursery and fairy tale elements not only alleviated the hierarchy between fantasy and domestic realism, but also opened an era in which the blending of these two modes would become one of the most popular genres in children’s literature.

Les femmes, la famille, la vie affective en Espagne au XVIIe siècle : représentations littéraires et réalités sociales dans les nouvelles d' Alonso de Castillo Solórzano / Women, family, emotional life in XVIIth century Spain : literary representations and social realities in Alonso de Castillo Solórzano’s short stories

Grouzis-Demory, Christelle 26 November 2011 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the representation of women in the short stories of Alonso de Castillo Solórzano. Mirroring the evolution of a genre popular in XVIIth century Spain, the short stories here under scrutiny are characterized by the extreme diversity and complexity of the female image. This study proposes to reveal the different faces of women and their new roles through an analytical approach to the text.Through the feminine perspective, we show that the author constantly favours variety, invention and admiratio. His aim is above all to entertain and charm his readers. The study of collective and individual representations of the female existence serves to underscore how much the author loves this transgressive feminine image, and to highlight the area of autonomy and expression granted to heroines, by means of a peculiar writing.Through his pen, the traditional framework governing the relations of domination and power between men and women is seen to be profoundly altered. Far from championing the feminine cause or questioning the established order, Castillo Solórzano's stories demonstrate, nevertheless, the decline in moral values and the upheaval which characterized the so-called « decadent » Spanish society of Philip IV.

Kultura ruského šlechtického "sboru" a jeho vyobrazení v literatuře 19. století / The Cultrure of the Assembly of the Russian Nobility and its image in 19th century Russian literature

Bykanova, Yulia January 2020 (has links)
The subject matter of the present paper is the culture of the Russian nobility and its image in the 19th century Russian literature. The aim of the thesis is to study the issue of the closeness of the nobility to the Russian nation's culture. The theoretical part of the paper deals with the history of the nobility: its formation, advancement and prosperity. The concepts of «culture», «Russian culture» and their constituents are explored in the thesis next. This part is aimed at analyzing the main elements of the noble class' culture. A philological analysis of the two 19th century literary works, namely «Eugene Onegin» by A.S. Pushkin and «War and Peace» by L.N. Tolstoy, is conducted in the third chapter to identify the elements of the nobility's culture. After the spheres of culture have been established they were analyzed, namely the relation between the upper class' culture and the culture of the whole Russian nation; education and upbringing; everyday culture; life conditions; matters of marriage, family, love and relationships; leisure and social life; the notion of the manor as the center of the countryside culture. The study showed the examples of both elements of remoteness and closeness to the culture of Russian people. Studies carried out in the theoretical and practical part of the...
